@@cardinals22 Don’t forget Gavin Stone and Tony Gonsolin. Stone was arguably their best pitcher this past season until he was lost for the season, and Gonsolin was arguably their best pitcher the season before. Many didn’t realize that the Dodgers were missing 8 starting caliber pitchers (including Ohtani) this season yet still found a way to win. In fact many, including myself, felt that the injuries to all their starters would be their demise. But somehow they overcame, and the addition of Flaherty at the deadline was a big reason why. But now they’ve got decisions to make going forward. Who starts from the following pool (assuming they are all healthy? Ohtani, Yamamoto, Glasnow, Flaherty, Buehler, Kershaw, Stone, Gonsolin, May, and possibly even Roki Sasaki. I can see Kershaw starting just for the simple fact that he’s really the only lefty starter they have right now. But I wonder if they’ve ever seriously considered using Kersh as a high leverage lefty reliever out of the pen? I know he wouldn’t like that, but given the number of starters they have, it makes some sense AND it could help to extend his career a bit. I think Kersh’s loss of velocity in recent years makes him less of a viable starter facing lineups 2-3 times per game. Regardless, the Dodgers might have to trade a few of these starting caliber pitchers and also balance out the overwhelming right-handed arms.
My thoughts, Ohtani has evolved the game and is a sensation. Anybody who wants to win a championship will want to play with Ohtani and the Dodgers. Doesn't mean everyone is going to go there, but it will mean there may be some players that favor LA a lot because of Ohtani and the Dodgers Culture they have been building.
exactly true, its just like all the best wide receivers recently. If they wanted a superbowl ring they would have wanted to play with tom brady, even brady was willing to take less money for the team to bring a good player like dumb AB who fumbled his shot
It doesn't take a genius to see that ShoTime is OBSESSED with being the best baseball player of all time. So he may not outwardly express that breaking records are in the cards, but I'll bet he's glad it adds to the GOAT legacy. Next year, he will likely win more games as a pitcher either the bullpen holding on or by score lead, a luxury he didn't have in his previous years. But number one on his list are chips. As long as he gets chips, his GOAT stats will follow. My guess is his pitch speed goes down bc of TJ surgery, but his stuff gets more movement and creativity. HRs and stolen bases goes down.
This cat Flanery came thru in the clutch for LA during WS. Ohtani is just built different. I've been watching MLB simce the 70's and he's the best I've seen play the game.
Ohtani is a every day DH at every AB since 2021 even at his pitching day except 2~3 days off a season (the only exception was after he got obliged injury in early Sept23 & got season off after obliged & arm injuries). The Ohtani Rule mainly affected NL teams since there was no DH before '22. So in '21 Ohtani couldn't hit after he got off the mound as a pitcher, fr '22 Ohtani allowed to continue staying in lineup as DH after he finished pitching at his starting days. So from '21 to '23, Ohtani was a DH at all AB (except 2~3 games off a season), he was in lineup from 1st to last AB same as other hitters at his pitching days & also the day before and day after pitching. Ohtani had least games off in the whole team. Basically Ohtani had double workloads in every season from 2021 to 2023 compared to all other baseball players in the world.
I don't watch a lot of baseball so I don't know how he handled it on the Angels or if it ever even happened but the idea of having to come up and bat a few more times in a game where you are pitching but get rocked and have to leave the mound early is wild.
It happened a few times as an Angel. It was arguably even more impressive because he always made the adjustment to lock in and go harder. For example, if he gave up 4-5 runs and had to be pulled from the game early, he would step up big time at the plate and make something happen there. Or the other way around. But i think the Dodgers should limit the hitting/pitching in the same game. The angels let Ohtani run the show and ran him into the ground
And a couple of times he's mad at himself and won the game by hitting HR. The game against Orioles last year is the best example, he gave up like 5ER early or something and he has like 4 hits including 3 run HR.
For those who don't like Ohtani no matter what he does, pick your player, whoever that may be. Now, can your player pitch at an MLB level and hit at an MLB level and compete in every category of pitching and hitting? I'll bet money that if Othani had to play the outfield, he would do it easily.
You’ve heard that expression he’s playing chess while everyone is playing checkers?, ohtani , while everyone is playing chess, he is playing GO. If you don’t know the game, Bobby fisher said it is the most difficult board game in history
All these interviews and questions about Ohtani (Hey, will he pitch next year?) and other teammates must be a little awkward considering Flaherty is a free agent and is not close to being a lock to return to LA, unless the Angels want him.
That rule is lkke before in the NL when they didnt have DH...pitching and hitting for himself. But either they can plus in a new hitter at DH if they need
I think the difference is if the pitcher retires in that game at like 7th inning, the pitcher normally rests and is out of the game and doesn't continue batting and the next pitcher will pitch and bat
I think the Ohtani rule will be more effective than his previous AB at his previous team. He will be more focus on pitching next year then DH after he’s done on the mound.

Dodgers need to do whatever it takes to bring back Jack. If it wasn’t for him they wouldn’t have won some critical post season games.
What are your predictions for Ohtani next season?
Cy Young
NL MVP and possibly Cy Young
38hrs/22stls with 15 wins and 200Ks
First person in history to win Cy Young while hitting 40 homers. :)

Kershaw, May...?

^^ Addendum to the above: I meant 2022 for Gonsolin, not 2023.

Is it confirmed that Rouki Sasaki is going to the Dodgers ?
A 50% effective Shohei Ohtani is still better than most MLB players at 100% 😄
yep which is insane and laughable, he is so skilled compared to some of the best in the league.
Kept it 100

40/40, maybe 45/45. 15 wins. toss in a few saves for fun in the playoffs.
Bro unlocked WBC shohei mentality 🤣

Ortani hit a home run off Flaherty. 😊
and now they are both world champs together bud
When was that?
Flaherty hasn't even seen the full Ohtani show yet.
No way... Sho is what he wants to be.
Everything about Shohei is ridiculous. GOAT. COME AT ME!

LoL why would mlb expose he's on the juice, he's the face of the league. Money is everything
Nah, but Stanton is definitely juiced up.
