I'd also thank his Highschool coach, Hiroshi Sasaki who knew Ohtani was a special talent, and guided him through his path to be a dual way player and also not overusing his arm during the Japanese national highschool tournament, Koshien, unlike many other pitchers that came before him (Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched 17 innings in a complete game and then 2 days later threw a no hitter to win the tournament, definitely lead to his injuries later on his career.)

Fast forward 7 years, look whete he is at now. I think many people here in the states don't realize how strong he really is "mentally". He's definitely known for his god-given talent and his physical strength but not many madia talks about his mental side. He's been dealing with this type of crazy media attention since he was in high school. He knows how to deal with pressure, expectations, criticism. Thats why he never wilt under brught lights like we saw at WBC final.
His mental strength really matches his physical and natural talents thus he has became an international superstar player.

    8:59 ~
If I remember correctly, in an interview by someone talking about Shohei, he had no fascination in living the lavish, celebrity lifestyle - and just focus on baseball, and live off of the allowances of 100,000 yen per month (roughly 800 dollars per month) from his mom, who managed his money when he was playing in Japan around his rookie year, and living in the team dorm, but rarely using the money. That's one thing that I thought of when he was deferring 680 million of his 700 million contract money. He seems like kind of a person that's willing to live like a regular people, but spend time on perfecting the craft, which also connects to so many people and also be lovable at the same time.
You probably don't see that in a professional athlete in this day and age. True example of greatness and his humble roots.

Ohtani is at 54-57(54HR, 57SB) going after triple crown 👑. He's leading HR & RBI in NL, his AVG is possible to reach even with only 2 games left but his hitting stat is rising so insanely that he may still reach it. He broke all Japanese & Asian seasonal most RBI, H, R, SB records in '24. Ohtani is too outrageous in performances that I probably can't finish writing all what he has achieved in '24 season since he also broke almost all hitting & running records in his new team Dodgers when he is rehab for pitching after 2nd arm surgery in '23 Sept.

I know people will say "Yeah, but he's getting 700 mil", but the fact that he defered all but $2 mil of that so the team could go out an improve in other areas shows that he's a team first guy. Most players would've defered MAX 30 percent. I whish I was his teammate. The Dodgers are gonna be scary, especially in 2025 when he's healthy enough to pitch again.

As Dodgers fan, I guess you know Dodgers traced after Ohtani for 15 years throughout(even before this ownership) till they eventually signed him last Dec. Ohtani was originally expected himself to join Dodgers minor league team right after he graduated from high school. That's why in Ohtani's goal poster(still pin 📌 on the wall of his high school Dom) that he thought he would sign Dodgers minor team & became a pitcher only if Fighters didn't propose to train him into 2 or 3 ways professional baseball players. Most interesting thing is that Ohtani foretold Dodgers would win 2020 world series championship 🏆 in 2011~2012 when he was a high school boy (Ohtani thought he would have promoted as major player in Dodgers & be a member to win the 🏆 before he eventually chose to go Fighters to become 2 or 3 ways player).

12:53 "Personally I don't care how much I get paid, or how much less I get paid because of this..." Ohtani is either Baseball God, or a forever-10-year-old baseball kid. His sprit is so pure. Check out what he said before this historic 700-milion contract. He initially said to his agent: "What if I defer all my salary so that my team has a better chance to compete?" This comment just shows how hungry he is for the playoff! To him, the top priority is always baseball. Everything else, even money and women, is secondary.

"Japan's Babe Ruth"... that's insulting considering how much better Ohtani is. Babe Ruth only played against white players. Ohtani is absolutely killing it in todays game where the skill level is far higher and talent is far more diverse

Caught this when it first aired and just rewatching it.
As an Angel fan its bittersweet.... sucks BAD to lose him (especially to the Dodgers).
But on the other hand, its better for everyone that he ends up there. This guy is way to special to waste away on the Angels (sadly).
Baseball is far better off seeing this guy go to October every year.

What’s better about Ohtani too is he seems like a genuinely good dude, a good teammate and is very respectful. Everyone should look up Ohtani meeting Ichiro. You could see the little kid in Ohtani meeting up with one of his idols.

Witnessing Ohtani play is truly to behold a manga hero breaking free from inked confines, painting reality with unparalleled brilliance. He defies the monochrome limits, his presence a burst of vibrant color in the world’s canvas. Every swing, every pitch, a luminous stroke on this live masterpiece, each match a rare issue in an ongoing collector’s anthology.
Ohtani, the dual-wielding samurai in this epic, embodies a blend of grace and power. His pitching is a dragon’s fierce breath, scorching through batters with fiery precision. His hitting, a celestial hammer, sends the ball soaring like a phoenix reborn. Each game, a new chapter in an enduring saga of greatness, with Ohtani the virtuoso of this grand narrative, leaving spectators breathless in the wake of his mythic deeds.

What gem of a story 60 minutes has here. I bet they were hype to repost that following that insanely large contract lol it’s like Kuriyama created this mythical beast in a lab somewhere.
Side note, I wish I could go back to the original post and read the comments because I can’t even begin to imagine how many people were scoffing at the idea of him succeeding at both sides of the ball the way he has. “ pitching, and hitting in Japan is great and all but no way he’ll both in the majors” I can’t imagine how many of those comments existed.

Dodgers are laughing cause 700 million is nothing, it will pay itself in the long run, Shohei Ohtani is worth much more for what he has done to the sports of baseball, he has brought in new casual fans, broken records which I believe will never be broken, not in your life time, and there is no argument, he is the best baseball player that ever did it, just be lucky his a modern day living player you can see now

    • @mirikaku5811
      @mirikaku5811 Месяц назад +4

In the long run? At end of May it was confirmed in Forbes that Dodgers hade made 520M in multi year Japanese advertising contract. By September it was confirmed the amount passed 700M.
Ohtani already paid his entire 10 year salary in his first season! 😂
Stan Kasten laughed and said, maybe Ohtani is too low paid…
Also the opposing team stadium is making money on Japanese ads paying while Ohtani is playing there!
Now Ohtani also sells tons of MLB merch which is divided among all 30 franchises. That’s a considerable amount all of MLB is making other than foreign broadcasting rights and royalties (not only by the Japanese!) the guy is a one man socio economic juggernaut.

Fast Forward to 2024. A 50/50 Season his first year with the team and taking the Dodgers to the World Series in his first year is unheard of. With a $700 Million Dollar contract, he will generate $770 Million Dollars this year. Number one jersey in stores, this man is a money making machine for whoever signs him. I only see his future breaking records.
