This 79 year old lady discovered him last summer near the end. My grandson is also a pitcher & 1st baseman & he’s good. We always talk about him & Trout. We’re from Massachusetts & will continue to follow Ohtani
Perfect timing. I never pay attention to MLB but always see ohtani news and videos pop up. I was wondering what the hype is and why he is considered the best of the best. Going to be a good watch
Ohtani not only rewrites the MLB history of records, but also causes the MLB to change its rules. It is like that the MLB wouldn't exist without Ohtani.
The Angels as an organization should be embarrassed not managing to put together a complete team to make the playoffs with Ohtani and Trout. That's a fumble of a life time.
Fun facts about Ohtani -In the little league, he has hit outside of the field and hit the traffic light and broke it -also in the little leagues, his coach prohibited him to pull as his homers would go straight to the river and loses so many balls. That’s why he became good at hitting to the left field -His high school coach said he was good enough as a swimmer to make it to the Olympic team -During the Fighter’s career, he would reward himself after a game by stopping at Seven Eleven to buy a chocolate crepe . He was also on small allowance as his mother managed his money, yet he still managed to save tons of money for his very little spending -No one has heard him dating anyone, but he got plenty love letters from school mates in high school. He never dated any girls as he was too involved with baseball, yet he and his friends got together and read those letters 😂❤ - His high school coach taught the team to pick up trash as trashes are luck other people threw away. Ohtani still picks up trash to this day -His coach from the Fighters was asked what impressed him the most about Ohtani. The Interviewer was probably asking about his ability as a pitcher or a hitter, but his answer was, “His personality” He said he had never seen a human being who was as perfect as Ohtani as he is super polite, respectful and humble. The interviewer continued, “oh…come on! There’s got to be something bad or weird about him! Share! “ but the coach said, “Nothing! He is simply perfect.” -In his high school days, he ate 10 bowls of rice 🍚 each meal to gain more as he was super skinny -He was known as a “mama’s boy” among his little league moms 😂 Well, there are so much more that were shown in the Japanese variety shows in the past, but these are some that really stuck in my mind. ❤ I also have some really fun facts about Ichiro and Matsui …well…some other time😂
A Dodgers fan since 71, beyond thrilled to see him wearing Dodger Blue. Wishing him health and success and more importantly - happiness. Respect from Florida
Ohtani was able to succeed in his two-way game player both pitch and hitter because of his unique and unprecedented way of thinking and actions in the process of his development. He was not born as a unicorn, an alien, or a superhuman from the beginning. He has voluntarily devised a method, and through hard work has transformed himself into a player who can succeed in both pitching and hitting! In youth baseball days, there would be large number of boys who want to be an ace pitcher and the No. 4 hitter both, if they possible. However, the reality is that many boys player give up to be both, as they go on to serect specializing in one or the other, whichever is relatively more dominant. Shohei Ohtani may have been one of them, but he is a rare person who, even after entering high school, did not give up that dream and continued to want to play both pitching and hitting if possible. He is the kind of person who never gave up on his dream of doing something that no one had ever done before. Naturally, many adults around him must have tried to persuade him that it was reckless. But Otani did not listen to their advice and did not give up on his dream. Even as a high school student, he was someone who dared to try to realize a dream that was said to have little chance of success. He analyzed himself to determine how he could reach the pinnacle of both pitching and hitting, grasped his current situation, identified what he lacked, and analyzed and wrote down what he needed to do to achieve his goals. He came up with specific methods to achieve his goals, including ways to strengthen and improve his baseball skills, processes to strengthen his basic physical strength, effective training methods, research on dietary methods to grow bigger, his outlook on life, his way of life, and even his lifestyle. And he has continued to do so from his high school days to the present.. This is what makes Otani unique, and the producer who made Otani what he is today is Otani himself. This process is recorded in the 81 matrix sheets of the development scenario he drew up himself when he was 16 years old. Although Otani is blessed with innate qualities, he is neither a unicorn nor an alien, but a person who is able to continue his daily efforts and self-improvement in order to achieve his goals. That is what has made him what he is today. What we should learn from him is the process of thinking and acting to achieve his goals that he practiced. As you can see from the photos and videos of Shohei Ohtani in high school, his body then as a boy was tall but skinny and completely different from today's Ohtani. Even when he joined a Japanese professional baseball team after graduating from high school, he was still as skinny as a different person from today's Otani. In order to build his current physique, he devised not only a training regimen but also a diet regimen that dictated what, how much, and when he ate, and he practiced it stoically and without neglect. And that made him to be the Shohei Otani of today. Of course, his stoicism was influenced by his high school baseball education in Japan, and it is undeniable that his childhood was influenced by his upbringing in a Japanese culture with a long history. If Ohtani had been educated and raised in the United States with the same DNA, there is a strong possibility that the Shohei Ohtani of today would not have appeared in the MLB. DNA is not the only genetic factor that determines our personality, mindset, and even body shape. Environmental factors, the environment in which a person is raised and the culture in which he or she is educated, can make a difference in the life of the same person. Otani was not born a genius, but a genius who can work hard to improve himself.
Well thought through and written, my friend! Absolutely agree with your POV! Gifted talents, you are born with! Hard work, dedication and commitment, you grow into them! Most athletes stop striving once they make it to the big leagues, Ohtani never stopped!
@@DrJohnnyChow Thanks for the reply, I'm glad you liked it. Shohei probably challenges himself to see how far he can achieve in his limited life time with his own efforts, since everyone only has one life. Since going to MLB, Shohei has said the following. “There will surely come a time when I have to stop playing baseball for physical reasons. I don't know now whether it will come sooner or later, but I want to do everything I can in the limited time I have while I can play baseball normally, and I don't want to regret not doing it later.” He is the type of person who views himself very calmly and objectively. When he set his sights on becoming a difficult two-way player, he may have assumed that his life expectancy as a baseball player would be short. I think he continues to stoically challenge his own limits because he is aware of his limited time. Even though he knows that, he dares to do it. That must be his way of life.
Did you know that Ohtani Shohei was born and raised in a town close to my hometown? I guess nobody cares. Because I live in Colorado now, I had been a Colorado Rockies fan until I found him playing for the LA Dodgers. When the Dodgers played against the Rockies, I cheered for the Dodgers. I didn't feel guilty. Go Dodgers!!! Beat up the Yankees. 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
I don’t need to say how good he is. This guy is literally to most who have watched, the greatest ever. But I don’t think that’s what will be his ultimate legacy. Just as with Ichiro, and Matsui, if you look at the influence he’s had on those who come after, that’s going to be the legacy of Ohtani. If you look at people like Roki Sasaki, he was influenced by Ohtani. There will be others, but the reality is that Japanese Baseball has surpassed American Baseball. In 100 years from now, the striking out of Trout at the WBC will be a moment that you see on MLB highlights when they do the best ever highlights. It will be remembered as one of the greatest moments in Baseball history.
take it easy man. He's great, but you dont know, nor have seen all of MLB baseball history (obviously) and from an Americans point of view not even close to surpassing American baseball.. If that was true NBP prlayers would stay in Japan but they don't do they? Why do you think that is? hmmmm, perhaps because they are not the best. So go relax and stop making absurd comments.
Since he's not pitching this season, I'm sure he'll be after Judge's 62 HR record. Aaron will be on fire as well. We'll witness a clash of titans... doesn't matter if they play different leagues. That's what we all want to know.
My Grandpa got me a Dodgers Ohtani shirt for my birthday. I had been wanting one so bad, and I had a ton of stuff like Ohtani rookie cards, Funko's, I had his Angels shirt too! And I opened the package he sent me and there it was. I'm wearing it today as I'm typing. Thanks Grandpa. Thanks Ohtani for being my favorite
I don't know much about baseball, even if it seems a very exciting sport but I realised he's an incredible player and he became a great player since 18 years old, he's one of the best and he's playing for the Dodgers, one of the most remarkable baseball teams now and he stills being humble and down to earth, he's a role model for Japanese, Americans and everyone who want to follow for your dreams and becoming someone in the world.
I Liked Baseball since my Uncle Joe brought to me and my brother a glove a bat and a ball in the early 60’s from New York. Then I learned how to Love Baseball while I lived in Japan for 5 years watching it every single night so many great players like Shigeo Nagashima; Sadahara Oh etc. etc. I must confessed that I do not watch the regular season MLB games but has never lost a single game of the World Series for many years. I must admit that I have never heard about this Champion of Champions (Shoei Otani ) until last week when he hit a huge home run! Now I am aware of what I has missed all this years! and I am trying to catch up with great videos like this one! Many Thanks for posting! What a story; What a player; What a human been…. Definitely the Most Electrifying player in the game today … or probably in history!!!
i am a huge ohtani fan....But i have to say 2 injury that stop him from pitching altogether for the season is very concerning....I love to see him pitch and bat...And i will hate it if his pitching gets stopped for this injuries....i hope dodgers can lessen his shoulder strain to get many years out of him as a two way superstar
Guy really has a flair for the dramatic. Homer first home ab. Strikes out teammate and fellow goat Trout to win WBC Hits a walk off grand slam to reach 40/40 club faster than anyone else Then goes 6 for 6… 3bombs…3 dubs…10RBIS..2SB. Which is already considered maybe the best offensive performance ever…in 175+ yrs of baseball. Then the next game he went 3-4 with another homer. 3RBI. So 4 homeruns 13 rbi and 3 more SB. 9 for 10 o er a 2 game span. 55/55 might be a lock. And he just might get close to 60/60
And in his first season with the Dodgers, Ohtani starts the 50/50 club with 54 HRs and 59 SBs in a one-of-a-kind season and finishing 2nd in the batting title trailing Luis Arraez just shy of a Triple Crown. Hoping that Ohtani do wonders for the Dodgers in his 1st career postseason. Given that the Dodgers always win the regular season as the best record but fading in the postseason. If he leads them to a WS title, it will be very special.
Witnessing Ohtani play is to behold a manga hero breaking free from inked confines, painting reality with unparalleled brilliance. He defies the monochrome limits, his presence a burst of vibrant color in the world’s canvas. Every swing, every pitch, a luminous stroke on this live masterpiece, each match a rare issue in an ongoing collector’s anthology. Ohtani, the dual-wielding samurai in this epic, embodies a blend of grace and power. His pitching is a dragon’s fierce breath, scorching through batters with fiery precision. His hitting, a celestial hammer, sends the ball soaring like a phoenix reborn. Each game, a new chapter in an enduring saga of greatness, with Ohtani the virtuoso of this grand narrative, leaving spectators breathless in the wake of his mythic deeds.
At my age, I find myself idolizing yet another talented and gifted athlete since Michael Jordan and Lionel Messi. Three GOATs 🐐 (order of rank) No 1: Shohei Ohtani No 2: Michael Jordan No 3: Lionel Messi Honorable Mentions: Tom Brady, Tiger Woods, Wayne Gretzky, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohammed Ali. PS: Tennis greats, Serena Williams, Bjorn Borg, John McEnroe, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. As sports fans, we were blessed to have witnessed these incredible athletes!
The argument of him playing in Japan instead of MLB out of the chute is valid. He went through a few years of being in VERY bright lights. He was beyond a superstar at a young age. Baseball in Japan is different. So he was ready for anything MLB could throw at him.
It is such a treat to be able to watch a super talented athlete like Ohtani perform. His performance so far in 2024 is starting to make his $700M contract look like a bargain for the Dodgers.
Love the video!! Amazing!! But to correct you a bit.. Vladdy won all star game MVP 2021.. and the rookie swason where ohtani won the award wasn't a landslide there was a good debate for it
Boy oh boy, where do I even begin? Shohei… boo, my dearest honey bear. I have adored you ever since I first laid eyes on you. The way you drive those home runs and strike fear into the Yankees’s eyes. Your buttery swing and that gorgeous fastball. I would do anything for you. I wish it were possible to freeze time so I could savor these delightful moments-this peak. You had a tumultuous injury, but you held out hope. You’re the most amazing player on and off the field. You’re an extravagant showman; sometimes, I scream and wave my arms in my seat-watching and waiting just as if I am seated at one of your triumphant performances. I forever dread and weep waterfalls just thinking of the day you will retire. I would sacrifice my own life if it were the one thing that could put a smile on your handsome face, sugar bear. You have given me so much joy and heartbreak over the years. I remember your injuries back in 2020, that heartbreak, that anguish. But a diamond tear fell from my right eye when I watched you win that MVP award. You fought-my glorious king-you fought for it against all odds. Then you came to the Dodgers. My sweet baby, to my favorite team in the whole wide world. Twenty-twenty-four was a hard year for you, boo, but you pulled through. You came back from that loss to the Yankees and I couldn’t believe it. I was crying, bawling even, and I glimpsed my glorious honey bear beaming. Not only have you brought new light to baseball and the world with your radiant smile and swooping swing, but you’ve eternally changed my world. And now, every time I see that shining ring, I will remember my GOAT-forever my GOAT. I love you pookie bear, my glorious king, Shohei Ohtani.
I don’t watch sports, but I went to the mall to buy a dodgers jersey for a gift and saw his name plastered everywhere; ended up here and I’m so ready to go see this once in a century star as soon as I can

God I’m so glad he’s a Dodger. Angels didn’t deserve him
Witnessing Ohtani play is to behold a manga hero breaking free from inked confines, painting reality with unparalleled brilliance.
Each game, a new chapter in an enduring saga of greatness, with Ohtani the virtuoso of this grand narrative, leaving spectators breathless in the wake of his mythic deeds.
wow!

Thanks! My father is an author and has taught me a lot.
I love Ohtani! So happy he’s now on the Dodgers.
I'm not a Dodgers fan at all but I like Ohtani and I wish him the best.
At my age, I find myself idolizing yet another talented and gifted athlete since Michael Jordan and Lionel Messi.
Three GOATs 🐐 (order of rank)
No 1: Shohei Ohtani
No 2: Michael Jordan

It's 1st Baseman And Outfield Time For Shohei
The argument of him playing in Japan instead of MLB out of the chute is valid. He went through a few years of being in VERY bright lights. He was beyond a superstar at a young age. Baseball in Japan is different. So he was ready for anything MLB could throw at him.
It is such a treat to be able to watch a super talented athlete like Ohtani perform.
His performance so far in 2024 is starting to make his $700M contract look like a bargain for the Dodgers.
Angels squandered their opportunity to win a World Series smh
Well Im just to say that he Dodgers just won the World Series.
GOAT
MLB the show 99 pitcher 99 batter
Video game stats in real life
Time to update this video :)
I love all the VHS iconography in this video as if that's even remotely appropriate!
Love the video!! Amazing!! But to correct you a bit.. Vladdy won all star game MVP 2021.. and the rookie swason where ohtani won the award wasn't a landslide there was a good debate for it
Thank god I got to see him play me and my son made some great memories with his games
good video, but you might want to improve the narrator voice... sounds grating on the ears
🐐🐐🐐⚾️
He is Mr baseball right now
I'm going to tell OUR grandkids that their grandfather is one of the legends in baseball.
It would be awesome he he won the world series for his second act.
He is an Amazing baseball man
I used to be bummed that i missed out on the Babe & Mickey Mantle, but now i dont care, cos i get to live while Otani is playing.
What scout said Ohtani's swing is "flawed and can't hit curve balls" ?? I mean, he should just retire as a scout.
Nice to get the complete shohei story in 30 minutes, compared to having to watch 6 grueling years of him play for the Halos. 😂
I don’t watch sports, but I went to the mall to buy a dodgers jersey for a gift and saw his name plastered everywhere; ended up here and I’m so ready to go see this once in a century star as soon as I can
Making impossible possible story.
congratulations champ!!
He used the Angels as a stepping stone 😅
He knew that there are almost no competition in the positions 😅
Narrator ruined this video
And your comment improves it how? 😂
Beyond the talent and work ethics, when I see Ohtani...
...I see deliciousness.
Legendary
Shohei is LITERALLY 1 day older than me!!😅 i knew it was a vibe!!
17 strikeouts in a 6 inning game as a kid. #17 on the dodgers at 29. That kid knew his destiny from the beginning.
Dude stop screaming
When you say “ever lived” I’m initially wanting to say “Nah so and so is better” but I can’t.. 😂 I agree with ya. Dude is amazing
im white 50, with 5 daughters (ages: 14, 15, 16, 17 & 18) bc of shohei, all my girls will marry asian dudes!
He still has that young boyish look. And, that’s a compliment.
Wow he was born to be a baseball player
Love Shohei like you wouldn't believe
