Now he is playing for pros, playing in the major leagues, winning the WBC, joining the Dodgers and getting married, Despite suffering from betrayal by his interpreter and injuries, he is facing off against the Yankees in the World Series. Something that is like the climax of a Manga. I am so happy and excited that we Japanese can experience the same excitement as he did. Good luck Shohei, your and our dream is coming true.

There was a moment - I think it may have been after hitting his 49th hr in Miami - where the camera zoomed in on his face as he let the bat slide from his hand and stood for a few moments gazing up at the ball arcing high into the stands with a look of complete serenity, as if he were calmly watching the flight of a passing bird. In that expression there was no bravado or any emotional display - it was as if he was seeing exactly what he expected to see. That's my Ohtani moment.

      Hello from Tokyo!
      You are right.
If Shohei had joined the MLB straight out of high school as he had hoped, he would have been only a pitcher.
We wouldn't have been able to see the home run hitter and prolific base stealer
Shohei Ohtani that we are so excited about now.
The Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters and manager Hideki Kuriyama (who was also the manager of Team Japan in WBC 2023) persuaded him, paving the way for him to become a two-way player and making it a reality.

Great great video, but one huge mistake….a wrong information here. Shohei didn’t insist on becoming a two-way player. Out of high school, he wanted to come straight to the MLB. He would have been a first player to have done so in Japan. So he asked all of the teams in Japan not to draft him but Nippon Ham Fighters insisted talking to him, while suggesting to become a two-way player. The manager, Kuriyama, suggested him that he could give Shohei the opportunity, become successful as a two-way- player, that might help him to have a better resume for the MLB. Fighter’s was willing to give him the opportunity which Shohei never thought was allowed in the professional baseball. He thought he had to choose one way or the other. So you can say that Kuriyama is the reason why we can enjoy this two-way-player ❤ I know Shohei wanted to play in the WBC but having Kuriyama as a manager, I’m sure he was more convinced to participate in it as well.

Most of us were expecting Shohei to get hurt or be an average player playing both ways.
Although he has been hurt half the time he has managed to play full seasons both ways and do it at an elite level both ways
Very few of us thought he could do that if we are being honest
All we can do now is just marvel... Because the next Ohtani wannabe is going to have to take those huge pay cuts risk injury to maybe get paid off years down the line

Immediately, it’s inaccurate. He didn’t refuse to sign with any team that didn’t make him a two-way player. He even said in an interview that he himself didn’t think that was an available option. He wanted to sign with the MLB so he asked Japanese teams not to draft him. But Nippon Ham did and offered letting him play 2 way if he signed with them. The coach in an interview said he watched him at the summer Koshien and saw him bat a high fly ball off the left field wall. He was a pitcher in high school. So the coach asked him in an interview if he wanted to play both ways. That’s how it happened.

ohtani didn’t “want” to be a two way player. he wanted to play in america, but he stated that going to a country where they don’t speak japanese at such a young age wasn’t really ideal. and when the fighters offered him being a two way player he signed with them.

Amazing video, you'll def grow quick if content like this keeps coming. Also you should seriously consider doing a rewatch of the vid, potentially with a friend, just to check for errors. There were many times (at least 3) where the number you edited in on the screen doesn't match the number you say in the voiceover. It doesn't matter that much but it's definitely a little distracting

He may be on the most uniquely dominant run in the history of the sport. He has 4 seasons of 8.9+ bwar in a row. Only a few players have ever done that. 3 mvps in just 4 years. The only player with a better stretch is barry bonds when he was fully juiced. Hes about to become only the second player ever to win mvp in both leagues. First to ever do it back to back. the previous highest war as a dh ever was 7. He put up 9.2 this year. He breaks multiple records every year. If he can bring his 2022 pitching with his 2024 hitting, we could see the first 15+ war season since the 1800s.

Shannon is right, he absolutely should have got a billion, particularly with the deferral. Dodgers could invest the money they owe him and it'd be worth twice that by the time he starts collecting. I can't understand the sweetheart deal they gave him and why other teams didn't come in and gazump the Dodgers.
