    For Shohei to have his mom manage his money, that's a smart move. He would still play baseball and pour his heart out like if he had no money, and work extra harder than anybody.
    And he was living in the team dorm when he was playing with Nippon Ham Fighters in Japan, so he probably would be content to be living in a regular sized home, not a mansion - just with security to keep people away.

      I question how many team execs considered that a "bad deal". He was being followed for years by US scouts, and the competition was pretty stiff to get Ohtani for what would be a very cheap price when you add in the salary he agreed to and the ridiculous bargain he was until finally getting a bump in salary for his final year with the Angels. They got by on the cheap and benefitted in many ways, as you suggest.

    One thing about the home that's being built for him on the island of Hawaii - the lot is just slightly more than one acre (maybe 1.1 acre). I think he needs a larger lot - there will be tons of tourists trying to peek over the fence to get a look at him. A larger lot would give him more privacy from all those prying eyes during the off season..

    It's insulting and pointless to have a brief clip of Stephen A Smith making a rude comment about Ohtani not speaking English as a detriment to the sport. That's not the only mistake and offensive thing in the video. For example, you say the Dodgers were "not prepared" to allow Ohtani to both pitch and hit as he wanted. Nonsense, the Dodgers were not able to give him that option because the National League didn't have a DH when Ohtani came to the US. The NL finally created a DH option for NL teams largely as a result of Ohtani coming to the US to play and wanting to give him a chance as a two-way player.

    • @MLBLifestyle
      @MLBLifestyle  9 месяцев назад +2

      How is it not a relevant clip to play. Stephen A smith said those things and was widely criticized. He apologized later on. And it’s true the dodgers wouldn’t let him play both ways. Regardless of there being a DH or not wouldn’t change the fact. He could play right field as he did in the Japan league.

    • @surfwriter8461
      @surfwriter8461 9 месяцев назад

      @@MLBLifestyle It doesn't fit the timeline or narrative tone, it seems to be inserted out of nowhere in a jarring way, and it's an ignorant random comment from SA Smith out of keeping with the positive approach of the video. Yes, he apologized later, which is not highlighted in the video and makes your featuring of his first comments even more out of keeping. As for the Dodgers, how do you know they would have denied him the ability to pitch and hit as a two-way player? He wasn't interested in being a position player if he could pitch and DH on a daily basis, so AL teams had the advantage in allowing for that. It's hardly irrelevant that the DH was in play. I think you're making assumptions without solid evidence.

    • @MLBLifestyle
      @MLBLifestyle  9 месяцев назад

      The only reason I put the Stephen a smith clip in was because it was extremely controversial at that time. I was literally watching first take that day and I was astounded. Other people agreed and I thought it was a bad take. I included it to make people aware.
      As for the Dodgers, they scouted him more than any other team. They never offered him a contract and eventually Nippon Ham picked him up. Again they were not ready to let him play both positions at that time. He could’ve pinch hit or played right field like he did in high school or in NPB.

    Whoever takes stephen A smith seriously????? ever??? His job is to start controversy, he would be out of a job if he didn't. No one can beat Ohtani, that's why you gotta attack him with something else.

    I the dislike that people are saying the biggest contract in American sports history, he signed the biggest contract in Sports history, his contract is $26m more than what Messi signed in 2017, he just ain't getting paid 168m a year

    Noticed his Dodger uniform number is 17 and that was Carl Erskine's number with the team and has never been
    worn by another Dodger player as far as I know.

    His contract does not have set in inflationary scalation clauses. So , in the way the US currency goes these days , he will be paid a lot less over the years , than the actual present value of his stated earnings.
    Also, I assume his compensation will be taxed at a whole lower tax bracket now. In 2035 , then it might be a different tax bracket.
    If he is smart enough with his money, then this might become a non issue. Thus far , going for items he bargained for , it looks like he is a level headed type of guy who got the right background.

    Hi Michael,
    Two researchers, Dr. James Buffi and Wendy Murray, confirmed my recommendation that, to prevent Ulnar Collateral Ligament injuries, all that baseball pitchers need to do is pendulum swing their pitching arm downward, backward and upward to driveline height in one, smooth, continuous movement and contract the medial epicondyle muscles before, during and after the acceleration phase of their baseball pitching motion.
    These muscles, not the ligament, hold the Ulna and Radius bones tightly against the Humerus bone and eliminate all stress from reaching the ligament.
    Now, we have to wait until the orthopedic surgeons realize that they are the causes of so many unnecessary surgeries.
    Sincerely,
    Dr. Mike Marshall

      Interesting. If what you say is virtually foolproof, that suggests to me that many ortho surgeons may not want pitchers to know what safeguards the UCL since they get good money for the surgeries. Maybe send your comments to the training staffs and team execs of MLB teams and/or send this material to the MLB medical people to disseminate. It's definitely an important topic needing careful consideration.
