I don't like his analysis of the game, too old school for me. But it was a great interview. He can relate to the players for sure.

He played in the Major leagues for a long time and played with some of the greatest players of all time . It's always seemed to me that Shohei understood the questions in english, but deferred to Ippei to translate, because of course everyone in Japan wants to hear it first hand, but yes, Shohei's english is not bad at all!
He has been in the MLB for 6 years now, so he obviously can understand enough English to casually chat with teammates and coaches. But when it comes to answering serious questions from the media, he should use an interpreter. There's a massive difference between understanding what's been said/asked, and being able to answer professionally and politely in a foreign language.
He speaks it. Just chooses to use a translator because it keeps his thoughts true and authentic in his native Japanese

Would be easier to root for them to succeed if they didn’t game the system to build the roster. Probably wouldn’t be much different if the payroll was $400m but differing 100m to make a “super team” just makes it hard to want to see them succeed

I didn’t say it was against the rules, but that’s only because nobody ever imagined a team would end up ina situation like this. You better bet, next CBA the amount you can defer will be in discussion.

They did the same thing with Trevor Bauer and how’d that turn out, totally sickening man. Gotta be so over the top , like making outlandish who’s gonna do better and better and better. Maybe like the guys said, let’s see how it goes…. They all feel uncomfortable and shit to make the new guy feel weird and they already know how humble he is, doesn’t need to be weird just let sports happen naturally, then the real hits and its actually natural. Sports don’t have to be fake at all and yet the riggedness feels realer every year, I seriously don’t want to feel that way but it’s hard to get over strangeness every year that tends to blow everything in all sports. Too much money to speak up, it doesn’t need to be that way.
After enduring the McCourt years, it's awesome as a Dodger fan to see them in such a great position to win multiple titles! Let's see if these guys can get it done.

I think what you’re trying to say is, we’ve been very lucky to have owners that put an elite team on the field every year since Frank owned the team. Unfortunately, they haven’t won title(s). But not to discredit, it’s hard enough to get to the playoffs every year, let alone for a decade straight. But yes, the McCourt years AND the Fox years were rough as a Dodgers fan.

As a Japanese, I am just so proud of Shohei and happy to know that his new team is so welcoming to him. Hope he will have lots of fun in his new team and finally make it to the playoffs because that is where he really belongs and exhibit his SHOTIME!
Please ignore the rude, ignorant comments about gambling. There are people who are really envious of Ohtani getting such a big contract but majority of Americans, from what I can tell, like Ohtani for the great professional he is.

This is one of the most exciting and likeable trios that I’ve ever seen in my almost 40 years of watching baseball. Also, it’s great for baseball as a global sport. Hopefully we’ll get to see some Shohei heroics in the playoffs soon!

Braves fan here, those are 3 really good dudes and role models for young players to look up to, no doubt! Dodgers will definitely be in the hunt come October, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it all turns out. I'm just glad opening day is near! Good luck to the Dodgers, and we will see you guys in LA early May for a great matchup and a fun series!

It’s like watching the fucking Avengers. Shohei is Cap, Mookie is Iron Man and Freddy is Thor. Muncy is Hulk when he wants to go crazy. I can’t wait for this season.
Mookie is a complete all around elite player! Can play any position, got a cannon arm, has speed, steals bases, hit dingers and scores a ton. Same for Freddie only that he plays 1B exclusively. And Shohei obviously, is the modern Baby Ruth (with a baby face bonus too)! Mookie got da swag and Freeman the smile! Explosive trio... :V
The dodgers are in for 10 seasons of constant questions about Ohtani, and very few about anyone else. I kind of feel bad for them.

Seeing this after the first 2 weeks, and Mookie leads everything.
Ohtani will obviously get the most attention but the fact Betts who is a top 2 RF of all time and seamlessly makes the move to SS for the first time in his career is pretty remarkable in itself.
The spotlight will be on L.A. for sure. I saw Yoshinobu Yamamoto in his 1st spring training game. Yamamoto works fast and his forkball is nasty. Expect teams to try to slow him down to break his rhythm.
