    Thank you so very much for posting this. I bought a presto pressure canner. Following your video, I’ve canned 10 pint jars of home grown green beans. I was scared lol Your video helped me SO SO MUCH! I’m here again to see if I can find a carrot video. ❤thanks again!

    Thank you for sharing your video. We also own the same digital canner and will probably get a 2nd Presto digital so that we can can more at the same time. However, according to the instructions, you should have the "regulator" removed before warming your jars, and the canner will beep to let you know when to put the regulator on❤️

    I've been looking at this canner and it was nice to see a good demo of it. I might buy one eventually, but I'm not sure I would can enough to make the expense practical. Of course the reverse of that is that I don't can because I don't have the canner!

    I love my Prsto Digital Canner!!!! I pour the hot water from my jars into a pot and use it to pour over the food after filling the jars. I can't stand wastng that much water. Also, if you will use a measuring cup to fill your jars you will have less spillage when adding liquid to your jars. I have canned over 400 jars just this summer!!! This canner is a game changer for me since I cannot handle the big stove top canners now!!! I really enjoyed your video!!!!!!!

    I just bought one of these. I've been doing green beans with my regular presto pressure canner and the temperature was going past 10lbs for me up to 16 even. My beans came out dark like yours. I did hear the electric canner goes to 15lbs pressure. So it will still burn the beans. My beans in the pressure canner a few years ago turned out green with no browning. Interesting comparison.

    • @FavoredAcreHomestead
      @FavoredAcreHomestead  Месяц назад

      Hmm that is interesting. My beans never taste burnt but mine come out that color because the bean in the green bean is a dark color. I know with this canner it doesn’t measure by pounds of pressure but instead it detects the temperature

      Yes green beans are completely cooked after pressure canning. And I’ve never added meat to it. I think if you added meat you would need to make sure your canning time is for meat. When I open a can of beans I just heat them up in a pot with some salt and bacon grease! Delicious!

    • @FavoredAcreHomestead
      @FavoredAcreHomestead  Месяц назад

      I’ve read that it doesn’t measure by pressure but by temperature! This is from their fb page
      The Presto Precise Digital Canner - Temperature vs Pressure
      Busting the Myth!
      The Presto Precise Digital Canner (PPDC) is NOT programmed to process at 15 psi (or any other psi) when using the pressure canning method. This is a myth!
      Unlike the traditional stove top canner, the Presto Precise Digital Canner senses temperature rather than pressure. The built-in temperature sensor ensures that the pressure canning phase begins only when the internal temperature reaches 240 degrees F, at which point the digital canner automatically and consistently maintains that temperature for the processing time that you selected. This is the reason that there is no adjustment needed at higher elevation when pressure canning with the Presto Precise Digital Canner. The PPDC will reach and maintain the proper temperature no matter your elevation.

      Yes, it will can 1/2 pints. I use that size for jam. But remember that not everything needs to be pressure canned. Jam, for example, is water bathed, and you can do that in the Digital Canner as well. (Can't water bath quarts as there isn't enough room to do that -- you have to cover the jars with at least an inch of water. Better to use a stove top canner or pot to do that size.) For canning, just process the food the same way as for a larger jar. You should look up the processing time for those smaller jars. If you process different sizes, process time is for the larger jars.

    Do you have a potato canning video…and can you use russet potatoes?

    • @FavoredAcreHomestead
      @FavoredAcreHomestead  Год назад +1

      I don’t BUT I would be happy to made a canning video of potatoes! I’ve got to can some anyways before they get too soft.
      I don’t see why you couldn’t use russet potatoes, but I have heard those are more starchy so if you do you use those make sure you let them soak in some water for a little bit and rinse them several times before adding to your jar and I think that would help with the starch. Starch is not a bad thing. It just makes your jars not clear.

      Jar warmimg stage is part of the complete process for canning and its not recommend it be just skipped. However, there are certain situations when it can be done, example...you entered wrong time and need to start over. In this case, everything is already warm. “The Presto Precise Digital Canner - Temperature vs Pressure
The PPDC will reach and maintain the proper temperature no matter your elevation.“
