  • Part 2 of our homemade pizza/pasta sauce is preserving it to put on the pantry shelves testing out my new Presto Smart Canner. I am super excited to see just how this Smart Canner works compared to my Presto Stovetop Pressure Canner.
Amazon links to both canners I own. Interestingly the Presto has went up in price and the Nesco is down a little since buying it in December. Both canners are within $10 of each other.

My first use of my Nesco was caramelized onions. Pints. When I started the unit entered my time and it entered the exhaust phase (E10) and counted down to E0 I switched to air tight, the chase led screen came on again and it took about 3 min. before my pressure time came back and started the countdown.
I thought during that return to the chase leds I had done something wrong. I'm glad I just waited and let the Nesco do its thing.
Since then I understand the manufacturer help line said thats normal and its safely bringing everything up to proper pressure before it starts counting. I unplug mine when the unit is finished and wait 1hr 15min before I open.
It's a great unit and Im happy with mine.
Just a note...I have seen video's from people that were unbelievable and just plain careless then blame the unit as useless. Lol

The 1st time you can in this baby, the coating is scratched. I would never cook food in it!! However, I love mine. I use it many times weekly. It is great for small batch pressure canning. It works well for 1/2 pint waterbath canning. Not so good for pints, the jars don't stay covered if canning say tomatoes for longer times. But I got it for pressure canning, so I bought a second one!!

Mine hasn't scratched yet, but I can see how it might. I also agree about not cooking in it. I bought it for small batch pressure canning too. Thanks for watching!
