Not the topic of this video, but I would like to thank you, Becky. I'm 17 and started a small garden (encouraged and influenced by you) I planted chives and cilantro, cherry tomatoes, biquinho pepper (don't know the translation to this one lol), basil, oregano and soon enough I'll plant carrots, broccoli and kale. Thank you Becky for the inspiration 🫶
Well now, that was a smooth unhurried canning session. I love the way you express your gratitude for everything, even through your own hard work. You girl are much admired!
This was a great review of this process. I did this exact process a couple days ago with only a counter top digital canner and it took me a lot longer. But what a satisfying feeling to have them in the pantry!

For those who do not have the equipment for pressure canning (like me!) or are leary of canning dry beans, another time saver is to soak them overnight, par boil them the next day and pack them in freezer bags for freezer storage. When you take them out you are way ahead time wise and can go straight to cooking. You can do a few meals worth without sacrificing too much freezer space. I do this with dry beans and dry chic peas..a real time saver.
@@patriciajohnson-platt4779 That depends on if you vacuum seal. Vacuum sealed about a year. Regular freezer bag about 4 months. I've used this method for years.

I stumbled onto your site a few days ago. I love your energy and knowledge. Thank you for sharing. I am 73 and not as mobile as I once was. However, I am learning so much. And am being enticed to try my had at pressure cooking. I shall look into electric canners now. I started over 25 years ago grinding grain. I would use my own grain for baking. I have Insta Pot and dehydrator. I must start implementing. Beening on a fixed income
Hi Becky, love your canning videos! I don't can, but my family does a black bean "stew". In a pot (or slow cooker) you add the raw beans, a meat with bone (beef or pork are great), onion/garlic (you can leave whole), salt, and a bay leaf. The meat will fall off the bone, the beans are beautifully infused and the broth is incredivly delicious! We serve with white rice side. 'Crema', lime, and cilantro are good topping options too
Becky YOU made me want to have black beans on my shelf! And yes i will soak and parcook ❤ thank you for showing how you preserve all of your goods. You are a delightful person.
I grew up "helping" with Grandma's garden, and I find that I'm most proud of myself when I am able to grow something that she didn't. Im so pleased with my homegrown black beans, onions, and potatoes 😊
Hi Becky!! Whenever I cook beans I like to use my family’s recipe that’s been in the family for 4 generations now. For 2 pounds of beans I normally use red beans, we add 3-4 garlic cloves 1 small onion cut into 4 and 2 tablespoons of a good quality salt. Im from Central America, we eat beans with everything lol When I refry them I sauté half an onion in 2 tablespoons of olive oil and add that browned onion to the blender with some of the oil blend all of that together then cook them in that some pan for 5-10 minutes, I promise you will never have better tasting refried beans then those!! I like to add a little bit of Goya seasoning too but I’m sure you have better tasting home made bouillons. Delicious my favorite beans ever! I do the same for black beans too. Let me know if you try them.
Would you mind being more specific about amounts 🙂how much beans and how much oil goes in the blender with the onion..thanks I’m looking forward to trying your recipe
Sure! For 2 cups of refried beans I use 2 to 3 tablespoons of olive oil and I usually throw everything including the browned onion in the blender, blend to your liking and then throw everything in the same skillet or pot I like to add about half a teaspoon of Goya adobo and then just cook till they boil, they are delicious and so flavorful. I use
I ordered the Presto Digital Pressure Canner, using your link, so I can can these beans. Beans are soaking now! This is going to be the first of many blessings with the new canner. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and encouragement.
OMG all i can think of everytime I watch your videos is that any company would be incredibly impressed by your project management skills! You would be a tremendous asset! You rock
If you wash your beans in a sink/pan of water, the debris will mostly float as you swish them around, and then you can skim it off. Plus, you'll be saving water.
Becky you’re becoming quite the teacher in your recent videos, it’s very helpful and informative. I just love the view you have from your kitchen it’s postcard worthy and changes with the seasons, spring/ summer full of flowers, now autumn colours and pumpkins. Look forward to the snow display 😊😊

Becky…you’ve inspired me to start canning. I was afraid before watching this video but I’m excited now. I went on Amazon while watching and put everything I need in my cart to purchase!! Can’t wait to get started but my first project is making homemade vanilla using the instant pot method, this year since it’s late, so it will be ready for Christmas!! Also, CONGRATULATIONS on 500,000 subscribers!! You’re an encouragement to more and more people every day❤
Wait. There’s an IP method? 😮. I am still steeping my vanilla beans (lol) for the second year. Even converted my mom to “homemade” vanilla extract especially since we just looked at extract prices at the grocery store. I needed peppermint for the holidays. I did not think that through 😂. Next year I think I’ll be making many more extracts. All that being said, where did you find the recipe for the IP. I’ve got beans, not too late for gifts. 🙏
Becky, it was an action packed video as usual. I love to make a pot of beans and ham. I can eat them for a few days and still freeze some for later. Some times I give some away too and that's fun. See you next time.
The dragon tounge beans are so good. once you eat them you will never plant anything else. They don't come apart when you cook them. They are kinda creamy. You will love them.
Your beans look so beautiful. I’m going to try this method next. I’m still relatively new to canning, but you’re giving me the inspiration to make my next batch.
Once a month or three, I count up the jars of beans I've used that month and do a canner load to replace them. You are so right about the convenience of having home canned quality products on the shelf. Be sure to savor all your hard work when you create all those dishes in the future.
46:08 Becky! I’ve discovered the padded dish drying cloths from the dollar store. They are amazing for protecting hot jars and stone countertops. ❤️ I love everything you make. You are a natural teacher. I’m 65 & started canning this year. I’m hooked.
Happy belated Thanksgiving to you and your family. You've encouraged me to start canning, and I've processed over 200 pounds of food since the end of October.
I love your videos. Looking to do more meal prep. I can’t work a garden. Can you can produce from store when it’s fresh. I live next to Amish farmers and get produce from them too. I want to have canned vegetables etc Also, I just want to say you have the most beautiful eyes! Every time you do a taste test and look up it’s so noticeable. Just lifting up other women. Not being odd. I sometimes get tired watching you but you get so much done in so little time. I need days off so meal prep looks awesome to me. You are an inspiration.
I’m really treating myself this BF Season! Not only did I get a Bosch mixer for $100 off, but with the already reduced prices on Nanako knives and your discount code, I saved almost 50%😊. I’ve been saving that mixer in my Amazon wishlist for a long time hoping for a BF sale🎉. Merry Christmas to me😊
With commercial beans i always go thru them looking for rocks and stones. On average i find them in every three pounds. It also allows me to toss split or broken beans. We are able to buy them directly from the plant at $1 a pound.
Becky, you can make deliciuous Black Bean Brownies, instead of flour you use beans and it is super deliciuos. Brownie cookies as well..black beans are a super alternative to flour, for gluten free diet or just a way to use black beans in other ways than soups, stew or mexican food. ❤
Congratulations on the subscriber milestone. This video was the most professional yet. I have all of the ingredients to can dried beans but have hesitated to use the dried cold pack method touted by other homesteaders. I am impressed with the appearance of your finished beans and will can mine the same way. Thank you for the step by step instruction.

Your channel is amazing. It is so informative. There are many things that are not available in Pakistan at all like cranberries, pecans, tomateos. Also canning is unknown that there are no canning jars or lids or seals available anywhere here. But I am making freezer meals, marinated meats more often now. I will try apple sauce for the first time making at home. Only time I have ever tried applesauce is in Mcdonald apple pie 😂 Thanks for the inspiration 🙏 🙌 ❤️
This is a very random question given the content of your channel but I've been wondering for years now... do you get your nails done or do them yourself? You're so productive and busy in the kitchen and garden, yet they're always FLAWLESS. And thank you for your videos, I'm currently going through quite a lot (illness in the family, heartbreak etc) and your videos bring me so much needed peace. ❤
I love when she wears the lighter nail. And I speak from experience, having gel nails have saved me from some nasty cuts. I honestly might have cut a fingertip if not for my nails. (Granted, your real nails suffer greatly from the gel nail. I haven’t had them for a few years now. And the cuts I’ve gotten, I do think “that wouldn’t have happened if I had my nails done.) Short story long, I think of this when Becky chops food. lol.
Hi, watching you from Brazil! We eat a lot of beans around here, we use to cook in a pressure pan every day! You don’t have to throw way the liquid from cooked beans, just freeze and use for a soup pasta, delicious! And you don’t have to pre-cook, just put right away in a pressure pan.
I’m so excited to get a pressure canner and start making things like this for myself! I’m in the UK so they are quite expensive, and it’s hard to get good quality canning jars at a reasonable price so I’ve been slowly stocking up on those first, I’m saving up for one in 2024 😊
I’m also in the U.K. and it’s quite an investment to even get started. I’m waiting for my annual bonus in April before I can get some jars and a pressure canner.
@@lorrainelee597 it really is! Been doing some water bath canning for just over a year which I love but want some more options that only a pressure canner can give, like beans and soups as I don’t have enough freezer space to bulk prep lots of freezer meals but I can find space for jars. Good luck with your bonus, hoping to get one in April too 🙏
@@cynthiafisher9907 I’ve seen that too, not comfortable to try that personally but I reuse jars and lids for dry storage and dehydrated food for that reason 😊
I grew dragon tongue beans summer before last and they were great. Only half germinated but we enjoyed what we did get. I grew mine as a bush bean and it stayed low to the ground. They had a beautiful purple bloom and the beans pods are so beautiful! I needed to plant them farther apart, I had them about 4 inches apart but really they needed more space to bush out. I will grow them again for sure.
Becky, I just went to your scratch pantry site and was looking through some of the recipes I would like for Christmas. I noticed that it's difficult to go from a particular recipe back to the list of recipes. I didn't know if you could put in a go back button? I have been a long time follower and truly enjoy your channel. I first started watching when you were a dental assistant and doing RUclips part-time and have watched you through the years that you grown and blossomed.
I live for my electric canners. I’m just not good at babysitting the canners, lol. I’m usually multitasking since I work a lot but food preservation is a priority as well as not wasting food. Between the two canners and my two IP’s, I can get a lot done in a short amount of time which is amazing. Congratulations on 500k! 🎉🎉🎉
The hardest thing for me in my older years (I’ll soon be 70), is judging the amount I preserve for the upcoming year. I’ve always loved canning and preserving, more so now that I have an electric pressure cooker. But I need to have better control over the quantities of food I preserve. I gift a lot. But the love of canning and preserving especially in season makes me buy more and preserve more than I need. The struggle is real. Much love to you and your little family ❤️
Dragon Tongue beans are our favorite beans!!! But, in my experience, they are bush like. I have never dried them though. We eat them fresh and like them better than green beans. Plus, they can very well. DT beans are very very prolific and the more you pick the more you will have. This bean will always be in my garden!
We grew them for the first time this year and my kids absolutely loved them. I think I got to try only 1 or 2 because while I was picking other varieties they were eating all the dragon tongue 😂
I love black beans; I cook them with rice. I do have a question for you and that is. Would you consider doing a video on growing beans? In this day and age, I try to grow as much food as I am able and put it up myself. you are a blessing and inspiration to me. I canned white navy beans a couple of years ago. but I am not sure I cooked them long enough as my husband felt they should have been a little softer. I cleaned them as you have shown, and soaked them over night, washed and rinsed again then cooked on the stove then canned them in my canner. I will cook them longer next time. the ones I have canned I will cook longer when I use them in my baked bbq bean recipe. I am a big fan and love learning from you. Thank you so very much.
Love having someone admit they don’t know it all and follows the rules when it comes to canning! Some homesteaders learned from their parents and grandparents and respect that 100%. But if you haven’t canned before or hear one say that they’re trying something new, don’t do it! Temperature and Time is everything! 😊
I couldn’t agree more, home canner here. I have never pressure canned, recently my DIL had food not prepared properly and got botulism. This is nothing to mess with. I have always followed the guidelines but now I want a pressure canner to be extra safe.
Hey Becky - I just wanted to thank you for this video! I’m new to canning. You make it look so easy! I just canned 7 qts of kidney beans & 7 qts of black beans - watching your video multiple times through the process! I’m so excited - they all sealed & look great! Thanks again for your amazing videos!
With a stove top canner or the electric one you can actually skip the soaking and pre-cooking, I just put a cup of dry washed beans per quart, 1/2 cup for pints rinsed we can't have a lot of salt so I use other seasonings fill with water to the 1.5 inch line and they will continue to swell while on the shelf. I love doing northern beans with diced potatoes and ham, keep some cornbread muffins in the freezer and you have a meal in a jar ready to go. I love these for all kinds of bean dishes. I just made some Seven can(jar) soup which takes all kinds of beans, I canned all the leftovers, its so good. I do soak my navy beans for making pork and beans.
If you have a plastic 1/2 gallon milk jug, just rinse it out and cut it off from the bottom a little. It makes a great bird seed scoop! And you're recycling too. 😃
Hi Becky! Long time fan, love your channel, and southern (Alabama) lady raised by her grandmother in the garden. Just a suggestion, use the flavorful water your straining off your beans to can them in instead of adding hot tap water. Cook them in that amazing, wonderful, flavorful, liquid when you’re ready and they will taste amazing! Another tip, just once, try buttermilk when making cornbread. It’s fabulous! Keep up the good work!
Congratulations on 500k subscribers! I got a great tip years ago to add a few cloves of garlic to my pot of beans and it makes them plump and extremely flavorful. For the volume you did I would do a whole head of garlic per pot.

I love it! That's an awesome cozy bedroom. I love the rope around the beams, can't wait to see the pantry finished....my pantry is a small two door cabinet too. 😂 You're fulfilling my dream pantry!
The liquid coming off the black beans (when first soaking was poured off) was a gorgeous plum / purple color!
Wonder if it could be used to tie die shirts 👕?
@@alfarmgirlalabama9918it can!! Black beans are actually a fairly common natural dye-it’s so pretty!
Becky,I need to tell you how much I enjoy watching you and as an added bonus your Mom whom I believe is amazing.I love watching you and your Dad who absolutely reminds me of my Dad who I lost in 2017 and I miss him everyday. But watching you and your Dad brings me to tears in a happy way. Be bless my dear Becky.
We gifted ourselves an electric pressure canner off your affiliate link. It arrived the other day and I’m so excited! This video has come to me perfectly timed. Thank you for all you do Becky. You’re such a special person.
How long will they last in the freezer with the process you used?
@@patriciajohnson-platt4779 That depends on if you vacuum seal. Vacuum sealed about a year. Regular freezer bag about 4 months. I've used this method for years.
@@wendyslaby3373 me too. I don't really know the max time they will be good, but I know I have had them in the freezer for up to 3 or 4 months, I've always used them up before that. I never vacuum packed them..just small freezer bags.
Thank you ❤
Thanks Dawn- I will be keeping them your way too. Your a life saver!!! God bless you from grandma Katie in Oregon
I love my electric canner for small batch pressure canning.
When do you spend time with your baby when you do all this. If you not cooking you do gardening. They grow up so fast and then they gone.
Beans submerged in water just makes my heart sing ❤ I don’t know why but it is like looking at jewels 🤩 so beautiful
Hi Becky!! Whenever I cook beans I like to use my family’s recipe that’s been in the family for 4 generations now. For 2 pounds of beans I normally use red beans, we add 3-4 garlic cloves 1 small onion cut into 4 and 2 tablespoons of a good quality salt. Im from Central America, we eat beans with everything lol
When I refry them I sauté half an onion in 2 tablespoons of olive oil and add that browned onion to the blender with some of the oil blend all of that together then cook them in that some pan for 5-10 minutes, I promise you will never have better tasting refried beans then those!!
I use
😮 😋 thanks for the recipe! 🙏
I ordered the Presto Digital Pressure Canner, using your link, so I can can these beans. Beans are soaking now! This is going to be the first of many blessings with the new canner. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and encouragement.
Wow! That box fan idea to clear the debris is genius!
OMG all i can think of everytime I watch your videos is that any company would be incredibly impressed by your project management skills! You would be a tremendous asset! You rock
💚 So cool that you grew that many black beans, Becky! Great bean-canning tutorial. Dinner looks scrumptious! 💚
I am so impressed wonderwoman!!! ❤
Hi Becky, I wanted to thank both you and your mother for sharing your prep and cooking day with us. Even at my age, I picked up a few pointers. Your both very generous.
You make everything seem so easy. I love watching your videos because it motivates me to do my own canning. I'm currently cleaning out my freezers so I'm making chicken stock.
Becky, you are my inspiration! My daughter and I have started canning this year and you have helped us get so many wonderful memories together. She isn’t really into coooking but loves to can with me! Thanks for all you do! You are a special person and deserve all of the accolades you have received!💜💜
You are great at multi-tasking which takes an organized mind. Love, love your videos which I’ve only recently discovered.
Hi Becky. I just want to say congratulations on the sponsored content! You work so hard making wholesome, helpful and enjoyable content for us, and so you deserve recognition and reward. Thank you for being you 😊
The anticipation of Spring, with its welcoming warmth and new life, is my favourite part of living with four seasons.
I am so glad you use your microphone all the time. Makes so much easier for me to enjoy your videos. Thank you
Hi Becky and friends hope all is well with everyone. Hey Becky the ladies at the Senior Center say hi and they really love your content.
Your beans look so beautiful. I’m going to try this method next. I’m still relatively new to canning, but you’re giving me the inspiration to make my next batch.
So wonderful to have the whole plant, grow, harvest and canned process with the black beans! Thanks
Becky, I missed the type of white beans you are canning. Everything looks yummy and so pretty.
Becky, could you show us this year harvesting the beans and how you dry/save them?
Once a month or three, I count up the jars of beans I've used that month and do a canner load to replace them. You are so right about the convenience of having home canned quality products on the shelf. Be sure to savor all your hard work when you create all those dishes in the future.
Such a good idea to can monthly to replace the foods used!
Merry Christmas to me😊
Oooh what discount code. I'm new to this lady's channel ❤
I've got it! I wrote this before I'd gotten that far in the video 😊
Congratulations! I’m dreaming of a Bosch but I’m not sure I actually “need” it rather than want it. 😂
With commercial beans i always go thru them looking for rocks and stones. On average i find them in every three pounds. It also allows me to toss split or broken beans. We are able to buy them directly from the plant at $1 a pound.
I mean it is nice to see the home domesticiy that I thought was lost years ago keep it up
Becky, you can make deliciuous Black Bean Brownies, instead of flour you use beans and it is super deliciuos. Brownie cookies as well..black beans are a super alternative to flour, for gluten free diet or just a way to use black beans in other ways than soups, stew or mexican food. ❤
Thank you for that. I didn't know black bean brownies were flourless. Headed for the kitchen!
@@jenniferr2057Yeeees! You can make blondies with garbanzo beans/chickpeas too and are flourless.
@@gabygarcia8367 THANK YOU! Great to know!
@@jenniferr2057 🥰
Where do we get these recipes?
Gorgeous Beans!
I was going to do the no soak.
I’m not doing that now. Bravo! Thank you.
You are amazing Becky! Love your energy and daily intention. Do you ever kick back when these week meals are prepared? Best of my thoughts and love!!
Yes I do :) I haven’t cook in four days :)
I tell people I can because future me is lazy.... I work hard then make very quick meals as a result, keeping in mind health and food allergies.
Fantastic day in the kitchen! I love home canned beans way more than store bought because I can control what goes into them and it’s very affordable. Thank you for always encouraging us to stock our pantry with wholesome foods.
The box fan is GENIUS ugh I adore you!!
That kettle you use for your hot tea would work good to fill up your jars for canning.
Oh my gosh that's too funny! I've lost my 1 cup measuring cup lol and I can't wait to find out where I've left it!😂so glad I'm not the only one that does this
dang Becky your channel is growing!!! it’s well deserved. congrats!
Only time I have ever tried applesauce is in Mcdonald apple pie 😂
Thanks for the inspiration 🙏 🙌 ❤️
This is a very random question given the content of your channel but I've been wondering for years now... do you get your nails done or do them yourself? You're so productive and busy in the kitchen and garden, yet they're always FLAWLESS.
And thank you for your videos, I'm currently going through quite a lot (illness in the family, heartbreak etc) and your videos bring me so much needed peace. ❤
In a video from the past she said she has them done because she bites her nails. I agree, her nails are beautifully flawless! 💯
I love when she wears the lighter nail. And I speak from experience, having gel nails have saved me from some nasty cuts. I honestly might have cut a fingertip if not for my nails. (Granted, your real nails suffer greatly from the gel nail. I haven’t had them for a few years now. And the cuts I’ve gotten, I do think “that wouldn’t have happened if I had my nails done.) Short story long, I think of this when Becky chops food. lol.
I wondered that myself, her nails are always on point!💅🏻
I think years ago she said she has to get her nails done to prevent her from biting them. I could be wrong but I am 95% sure that is what she said.
@@tahbooge you are correct, she did say that
Hi, watching you from Brazil!
Don't think of it as a struggle. When food becomes scarce, you will be glad to have the extra food
You say onion the way Dr Strange says Penguin. It’s adorable 🥹
I couldn’t agree more! I grew dragon tongue beans for the first time this year and they were definitely a bush bean. They did amazing!
Omg the view from your kitchen window! ❤❤
Becky, I love that you have all these beans ready to put up in your pantry. Excellent days work on canning!
You are a wonderful teacher ! I learn so much about homesteading from you ❤ . Congratulations on your subscribers 🙏♥️
love the box fan idea; to help clean your beans!
Could you use the boiling water from the beans in the jars
This is so funny. I just got the electric canner as an early Christmas gift, so I'm canning beans to check it. I am giving away canned items for Christmas this year and my mom asked for beans. I'm so happy this video came out. Thank you!
I got myself the presto electric pressure canner last year 🎄. I love it so much that I want a second one! My family will be gifted quarts of taco soup, chicken stock & who knows what else 🥰 🫙
@@AuntieD. Wonderful and thoughtful gifts!
