I love your videos, Becky. I have a suggestion/hint that would help you alot and be safer for you also - if you can do it. In your pantry upstairs, install a "dumb waiter" so you don't have to carry things up and down. I lost a good friend when she fell down stairs with her arms full of supplies that were going down stairs. She also made frequent trips up & down and it was such a tragedy. I don't want anything happening to you. You could put "duct tape" over the sharp metal places on your sheller - that's what I did. (P.S. It's really nice watching you and Josh working together. I hope he'll be in more upcoming videos)
Would be nice, but the kitchen and pantry don’t appear to be over the basement. Maybe Josh could install one of those senior chairs for stairs! 😂 So sorry about your friend. That’s tragic.

His name was Petite Saint Vincent, (after the island) we called him Vinnie! He blessed us richly! Congratulations on your new buddy, I am sure you are thrilled! Thanks for all you do to help us learn new skills!
Hey Becky! What a sweet puppy you have 😍 on the bean machine, being a sewist, I quickly envisioned a cloth sleeve with a draw string to fit to the machine exit shoot and avoid beans flying out of the bag. Maybe you can cut the bottom of a cloth drawstring bag, if you don't want to be bothered with sewing it, but I bet it would make the process a lot easier. Great video, as usual!
I was thinking of one of those mesh laundry bags with the drawstring. That way they could see how many beans are going into the bag and just dump them into a container when needed.
Really appreciate Josh doing the research on these devices, and you guys testing them out together. I’m a gardener but might become more of a food preserver if I can see you guys do it! Congrats on your new pup! Enjoy your channel very much!
Interesting on how the machines make this task so much easier 👏🏼 Maybe you could make some type of bag, similar to a pillowcase with a drawstring and put up around the discard chutes for the stragglers 👍🏼
Happy New Year Becky and Josh and Family! You are getting a lot done! It’s good to take a deep breath after Christmas and carry on. Your new family member is fantastic! We are setting our new puppy in a week! So excited for her to get here! Thank you for sharing your day!
I bought my daughter the grater attachment for her Kitchen Aid and it works fabulously. Much less of the build upon the top of the food processor. So glad the bean shelled worked out. Just enjoy watching and learning from you. Thank you!!
You were my inspiration to have diced onions in my freezer. It is a game changer. I also started doing diced bell peppers. I am not a gardener but I do have a great farmer’s market I can go to. My husband really likes the restaurant next to the market so it is easy to get him to accompany me. A win for both of us when I can shop and not worry about having to come home and prepare a meal when I really want to start to preserve my new bounty.
Not sure if you know this already, but you can same time and energy making stuffed cabbage by freezing your head of cabbage. When you defrost it the leaves will be pliable and you won't have to boil it before making your cabbage rolls. Happy New Year to you and your family!
Shells should be very good compost for the garden beds as well. You may want to turn the sheller so that the hulls go into a basket/bucket/collection system on the floor, and put a deeper bucket (3 to 5 gallon) under the bean spout. You can put caulk or hot glue on the sharper edges to make it more comfortable for you.
Congratulations of the newest addition to your family!! He's absolutely darling! What do your bigger dogs think of him? Are they "mothering" him? Your little guy will have the best time growing up with this puppy...
I know you find pantry challenges a little stressful, but those are some of my favorite videos of yours because you really think out of the box and come up with new ideas. Plus i like seeing you use all the bits and bobs you've accumulated over the past year.
Becky, my parents have a woodshop and always store their potatoes & onions in a box with layered sawdust. It works fabulously. If you can find a local cabinet shop go snag a garbage can of wood shavings & sawdust. They just use it as mulch in the garden afterwards!❤ Love your channel & love to get ideas & recipes from you! ❤
Happy New Year everyone! A treat to myself is finally catching up on some videos! This popped up just in time. My condolences on your loss. Just finished watching
Happy holidays. Your new puppy is very cute. I'm glad you got the kind you wanted. I'm also very impressed with the amount of food you are able to grow and preseve yourself. You are very blessed to get amazing havests from your garden. And I'm sure it feels great to be able to produce a lot of your family's food yourself. I love watching your gadening videos. As well as your cooking videos. You are always so nice to share any tips and tricks you might have. Your new shelling machine seems to work great for the beans. What an amazing time saver. I'm glad you were able to save a lot of those red onions from going bad. I'm so happy for you with having so much good food to feed you family with through the year. Congradulatins on you wonderful gardening skills.
In my food processor i can fix both the grating and chopping attachments at the same time. If yours can too, then it will save you an extra step as you can grate and chop the cheese in one go.
Absolutely love your newest family member! I'm so happy that Josh is able to be there with you on this adventure in front of the camera and especially how excited he was for the bean sheller. Although I personally love your pantry challenges knowing how much of your labor has gone into the individual ingredients, I understand if you decide not to participate this year. Absolutely love the recipes from Scratch Pantry and will be incorporating more of them into my menus this year.
Congratulations on your newest family member he's adorable. If you don't really want to do a pantry challenge, don't. You seem to do a good job at keeping what you need on hand and not overspending, like I do. 😂
Happy New Year Becky and Josh ! Almost cried when you showed your viewers the new addition to the family ! Love Yorkies had one for 13 yrs he was the best companion to our 3 kids he would even play hide and seek with my children! Amos was his name miss him dearly 😢 Someday would love to have another Yorkie too !
Try one cup white vinegar and a little less than a cup of baking soda in the washing machine for towels and sheets. It works very well and they smell so fresh!!! It sanitizes too! 😊
I love having chopped onions in the freezer. I buy a 3 lb bag of yellow onions at a time to chop and freeze. Last nights onion chopping session burned my eyes horribly! I was glad to get them done though. I completely chop by hand at this point. Maybe eventually I'll get the processor attachment for my KitchenAid since it seems so easy watching you use yours.
Becky, I always enjoy your videos, never miss 'em. I found this out by accident. If you leave the chopper blade in your food processor while your grating it will do 2 in one job and you won't have to empty it, put blade in and chop smaller. It will do it all in one.
I didn't get a great look at the bean exit chute but it seems like a gallon sized round plastic storage container, like one from Dollar Tree, would work better than the paper bag. If the beans are coming out down through that tube, the container would completely encase the tube so the beans couldn't jump out of the container (maybe even modify a plastic gallon milk jug). In any event, now that you know how they come out you should be able to figure out a container that fits better for the exiting beans!
I never considered Josh as a big part of your endeavors to make good, healthy food! But now I know I was wrong! He is totally in! So nice your partner is helping you, a person can only do so much.wish I had your garden , it is lovely!
I am so impressed with your shelled beans. Did you notice that they were shiny? They still have their natural oil. I think they'll be incredible to cook with. Unfortunately most beans that you buy are over a year old and they don't cook or taste right. What a treat to have the right thing.
I'm so happy that your new machine works so well. And very welcome to new doggo in the family, he is SO CUTE! I also started to freeze the chopped onions and these are so convenient! Thanks for these idea, Becky!
This was so satisfying to watch! You inspired me to thrift a food vacuum sealer and I processed a bunch of onions, celery and carrots today for cooking later. Thank you!
Happy New Becky, Josh, and lil Mr.Acres..Oh Becky pup so adorable, he'll grow up with Lil Mr.Acres...Kool, the Bean Schucker..Josh is full of Surprises... 🎉❤
Your new furbaby is adorable!! What a sweet, thoughtful gift for Christmas!! My favorite part of this video, was Josh saying, "That was reckless babe!!" 😂 I'm looking forward to seeing you two in dogs more now that he's able to dedicate his time to Acre Homestead full time!! You guys are almost as adorable as the puppy!! I can't wait to see what you name him. All of our dogs are named after Denver Broncos players. I do have two litters right now and we've decided to go with the Greek God theme for their litter names.
Wow! The been shucker is worth its weight in gold. A long time ago I helped my grandma shuck dried black beans and my fingers weren’t happy. Great day of projects.🤗
Your new puppy is adorable! He looks like a Henry to me. I hope he appears in more vidros. I know that he and Toddler Acre Homestead will have many adventures together as the grow 46:34 ❤ And ,sadly, I noticed that he was born with the dreaded "spoiled rotten" gene ( both of my dogs were, too). There is no cure. You just have to accept it and give in. ❣️😍😊
Becky, those onion skins make the prettiest broth/stock. I keep a gallon ziploc bag in the freezer and add to it as I get them. This will be my first year to plant black beans and this was very encouraging. Happy New Year to you and your family!
Growing up on a farm, we always put our dry beans in a burlap bag and beat them real well. Then on a windy day we would transfer by holding them up high and let the wind blow the hulls away. Seemed much easier and less time handling a large harvest of peas or beans.
Becky I have recently started exclusively milling all my grain and have found I can still use all of my regular recipes. When using hard wheat I sub 1 for 1 and soft white I do the same but add an extra 1/4 cup for every cup.
Since you already purchased the other and are taking it back, if it's close in cost, get a second of the one you liked. That way, you have two shellers and go even faster. Enjoyed it
Lol 😃 I'm so glad you are considering the pantry challenge. I love watching your channel, and I can't wait to see the delicious meals you're going to put on the table for your family. However, I have decided to do the pantry challenge this year as well. Thank you, Becky, for your beautiful spirit ❤️ that shines, 😊✨️
You utilize your pantry and freezers all the time. You've been able to reduce grocery store visits due to your planning, hard work in the garden and just how you live every day. If you decide to do a pantry challenge, I'm here for it. Then again, I'm here for ANY video's you want to take us along for.
For freezing find stickers that have a good glue ( won't come off in moisture freezer) and put them on your bags. each year you have a different color..
The thing that I enjoy most about your videos is #1 you, #2 your attitude toward new things. It's inspiring. Thank you! And here's to many grand and small new adventures in 2025
Congrats in the new puppy! He’s adorable. When I first saw him, the name Cookie came into my mind my mind. Weird, that hasn’t happened before. Sweet of Josh to get him for you, you’ve talked about wanting another one for a while. He seems adorable and to be attached to you already. Glad the bean machine worked out.
I really shouldn't be as fascinated with the bean machine as I was, but it was interesting watching it pull the beans out of their casings. You are so very lucky to have a partner in your life who helps you make sure your family has good food to eat. When I look at the number of projects you take on as a homesteader it blows my mind. It really makes me appreciate how easily you can go from garden to table with the setup you have and if I was younger I'd find it very inspiring. At my age, I'd have to hire a homesteader to do all that work. 😂
With the amount of vegetables you are growing it might make sense to build out a root cellar area in your basement. Another channel I follow has one in her barn and she is able to keep onions and root vegetables to use until the next harvest. She hasn’t talked about a lot of items going bad before they are able to use them.
I have a new yorkie . She is 7 months now missy is now spay . In training . Takes lots of my time . Lily my last yorkie passed in April at 17. My heart was so broken . So in came missy
Oh my goodness! I’m so excited for your new Yorkie puppy! I had one for eleven years. I’ve had dogs for the past 35 years and my Yorkie, Gracie was the BEST dog I have ever had!
I have eczema and going fragrance free did help me. Hopefully it helps you too! Added bonus: fewer headaches (so hard to tell exactly what fragrance component is the trigger, and fragrance compounds are never listed), and you can smell the real world smells once theyre not covered by artificial fragrance 😊 Also... My eczema is very localized primarily on my hands, and it turns out (after many allergy tests) something in dirt (even potting soil) causes contact dermatitis for me. Super sad as I'm a gardener, but knowing the triggers means i can work to reduce them! A "cream glove" lotion helps a lot 😊 (dishweahing gloves do too, but they suck to work in in the summer!)
To winnow out the chaff in your beans you can pour them in front of a large fan into a large bucket or basin. The wind will blow the chaff and thebans will drop into bin. Might have to repeat a few times but it will help a lot. =)
Becky, get with your mom to make a fabric bag with elastic around the top, or maybe velcro to get it in place and pull it tight to hold in place if you don't think elastic will work. Make the bag long enough to sit on the table so the weight won't drag on it as it fills. LOVE your new addition 🐶
You two are so sweet and seem to make a great couple. Josh has really physically grown so much in the last couple of years. Thank you both for sharing so much of your life with us. May you have a blessed new year.
D3 with calcium (caltrate ) yes indeed in order for it to work I learned that when my doctor told me to take the d3 supplement and said to get the caltrate along with it
Happy new year to you and your whole family. I wanted to tell you that you inspired me to make cinnamon rolls from your Christmas breakfast endeavors and I followed the recipe you did and shared them with all my neighbors my next-door upstairs and downstairs neighbors and it’s the only the second time in 58 years that I have made Cinnamon rolls. I followed what you did pretty closely and that recipe was really good for the dough. It’s so much better than the first time I made cinnamon rolls. Really delicious. Thank you so much for sharing that recipe for the dough with us and showing us how you do it.
Josh: "Nononono. That was reckless " 😂😂😂😂😂. Reckless Becky, you stressed poor Josh out😅😅. Happy New Year. Blessings to you all. Congratulations on your new addition.
If you have an option for soaking on your washing machine use it to add an extra 30 min on your load! I just started doing this and my white comforter looks like new!❤ Happy New Year and thanks for being such an amazing inspiration
Years ago I had eczema. Come to find out, I have a sensitivity to the chemicals in 3-part paper. Back in the day, there were forms where you'd write on the top, white sheet and the chemicals would transfer the writing to the sheets below (yellow, pink and green). This was after carbon paper. We had correction fluid that matched the colors of the paper. Luckily, I only used those forms once in a while, so it was easy to make the connection between the forms and my skin inflammation. I learned to wash my hands well after using them and it cleared up. If you only get it on your hands, it's probably not the products you mentioned or you'd be irritated all over your body. (But using products with less chemicals like fragrance is always a good idea.) I'd focus on home cleaning products or something that you use often, like hand lotion or bar soap at your kitchen sink or even fertilizer in your potting soil. I'd try and use rubber gloves for a while to see if you can't pinpoint what's causing this. Wear them whilst doing one particular task, like washing dishes or gardening and see if there's a difference. If there's no difference, wear them doing a different task. You could even be sensitive to having your hands in hot water. If you use gloves, you might be sensitive to latex. Just because no body else is sensitive to a product doesn't mean you can be. So, yes, eliminate the common things like fragrance, but look out the box to the things you use. I used to get water blisters on my hands and feet, but that was caused by stress. It went away after I kick my ex to the curb. 💕🌞🌵😷
When I first started working we used this huge machine to make copies. There wasn’t a Xerox machine yet. I can’t remember the name of the machine but I think you had to add chemicals to it. It was a huge machine and it was almost like a printing press. This was back in 1970
Happy New Year Becky and Josh. I was thinking to keep from cutting your pans you could try some of the small pool noodles and cut to size to go around the legs of your bean machine.
After closing up the lids on your deli containers, if you pop them open a just a bit and press out the air from the top of the lid before re-sealing them, they'll stack much better - you won't have that rounded top that can make them tippy in stacks.
Josh surprising you with a puppy for Christmas is just the sweetest thing ever, what a little cutie!

I have been using gloves to shred and cut blocks of cheese. It keeps cheese very well.

True , IF you just keep the cheese refrigerated. Longer life if no bare hands touch it. But if it’s going in the freezer?it’s not an issue.
Thanks for this info

Put a thick bathtowel under the bean shucker so the loose beans don't bounce away.

You could put a tape around the sharp sides,we did. We also put a cloth in the pan so the beans dont bounce .been do doing this for 2 years.

Interesting on how the machines make this task so much easier 👏🏼
Maybe you could make some type of bag, similar to a pillowcase with a drawstring and put up around the discard chutes for the stragglers 👍🏼
Happy New Year Becky and Josh and Family! You are getting a lot done! It’s good to take a deep breath after Christmas and carry on. Your new family member is fantastic! We are setting our new puppy in a week! So excited for her to get here! Thank you for sharing your day!
The couple that shells beans together, stays together!!! You guys are so cute!
Same. Not sure why I never thought of that before!!!
Not sure if you know this already, but you can same time and energy making stuffed cabbage by freezing your head of cabbage. When you defrost it the leaves will be pliable and you won't have to boil it before making your cabbage rolls. Happy New Year to you and your family!
I tried that it rolled wonderful but I found the cabbage was tough
You are so lucky to have a great helper in Josh. Will feel good to have that massive job done.
Josh is SO lucky to have Becky taking care of him.!!!!
Josh is such a sweetheart for making a dream come true for you, Becky!!!
I was shocked!
@@AcreHomestead Truthfully, I got tears in my eyes when you told the story, so sweet!
Try freeze drying some caramelized onions. Oh my!! I caramelized them in the crockpot, it made the process so easy.
Sew up a cloth bag with a drawstring top to catch rather beans. Will keep them under control and clean
What kind do you have??? I neeeeeed yours! 🤣❤️
@SasssyPie i have moulinex DoubleForce. It's not the best one out there, but does work for me 🙂
Absolutely love your newest family member!
Aww congrats on your new little puppy!! My little rescue yorkie will be 15 in June, yorkie are the best!!
Congratulations on your newest family member he's adorable.
If you don't really want to do a pantry challenge, don't. You seem to do a good job at keeping what you need on hand and not overspending, like I do. 😂
So sweet! Puppy breath!❤️🐾 He looks like a Walter!😃❤️🐾
BUT always be sure to NEVER add in the following: chlorine bleach, ammonia, or alcohol
I absolutely loved seeing you and Josh working together
I know that he and Toddler Acre Homestead will have many adventures together as the grow 46:34 ❤
And ,sadly, I noticed that he was born with the dreaded "spoiled rotten" gene ( both of my dogs were, too). There is no cure. You just have to accept it and give in. ❣️😍😊
I have a rescue pittie girl that now lives the life of Riley. She’s a diva but we love spoiling her.
Happy New Year!
I love seeing the things Josh finds to help you. I never would have thought a shelling machine was out there.
Love the new shelling machine. Try putting a large towel underneath the machine to keep beans from bouncing away.
Oh my goodness he is sooooooo cute!!!!!! ❤❤❤ what an awesome Christmas gift!!! Good job, Josh!!!
You utilize your pantry and freezers all the time. You've been able to reduce grocery store visits due to your planning, hard work in the garden and just how you live every day. If you decide to do a pantry challenge, I'm here for it. Then again, I'm here for ANY video's you want to take us along for.
You can store your onions on an industrial wire storage rack they will sit out evenly and allow air to flow properly
Happy New Year Becky and Family!!!🎉
I’ve been gone awhile so remembering how Josh didn’t want to be on camera when you first started to this video. Very enjoyable
I use your bagel recipe every week. I've made bagels for several people and they all say they are the best bagels they've ever eaten.
Sling carriers work great for little fur balls. So so sweet!
I have a new yorkie . She is 7 months now missy is now spay . In training . Takes lots of my time . Lily my last yorkie passed in April at 17. My heart was so broken . So in came missy
That bean machine is a game changer. Can’t believe how quiet it is. So efficient.
Oh my goodness! I’m so excited for your new Yorkie puppy! I had one for eleven years. I’ve had dogs for the past 35 years and my Yorkie, Gracie was the BEST dog I have ever had!
Thats really sad for your other dogs 😢
I have eczema and going fragrance free did help me. Hopefully it helps you too! Added bonus: fewer headaches (so hard to tell exactly what fragrance component is the trigger, and fragrance compounds are never listed), and you can smell the real world smells once theyre not covered by artificial fragrance 😊
Also...
Your new little Puppy is so adorable and I love seeing Josh in the videos too! 🙂
You two are so sweet and seem to make a great couple. Josh has really physically grown so much in the last couple of years. Thank you both for sharing so much of your life with us. May you have a blessed new year.
Becky I have recently learned when you take d3 u need k2 with it for it to be more effective
And magnesium.
D3 with calcium (caltrate ) yes indeed in order for it to work
I learned that when my doctor told me to take the d3 supplement and said to get the caltrate along with it
My doctor said to take magnesium malate.
I just started doing this and my white comforter looks like new!❤
Happy New Year and thanks for being such an amazing inspiration
This was back in 1970
@@annpachini2155 mimeograph machine? They were great for multiple copies, but not so good for 1 or 2 copies. 💕🌞🌵😷
@ that’s it. Could not remember the name. Didn’t it need alcohol
Happy New Year to all! Thank you Becky for all your knowledge through the years! May your 25 be filled with much love, good health, and laughter! Hugs
Wishing you and your family a very Happy New Year!
Happy New Year, it’s such a treat when Josh is with you in the video
