I have just received a pressure canner from a company here in France - there were absolutely no instructions with it and there is no make on the canner; so I don't know what it is and they seem to be ignoring my e-mails to date! I am a bit freaked out as I have a pile of squash and courgettes. The problem is that there is no trivet to go on the bottom. You are sooo lucky in the US as you have so much guidance!

Amazon is a bit more expensive but all the things I bought there ( over 200 trough the years ) are good as well as the service afterwards .

I do have a question: I also have a digital Presto and while canning my carrots the other day I forgot to take off the regulator and I canned with it on through the entire process. Is that a problem? Everythng else was perfect I completed the process to the very end. Thanks in advance.
Venting is necessary to ensure that all air is exhausted from the canner as well as the jars. Removing the regulator ensures the canner is vented. This is a food safety concern. Although your jars sealed, they were not properly canned and we cannot be certain your food is safe.
Thank you so much for your reply. I guess I will toss them I really don't want to take a chance.. After all they are only carrots, I'll consider that practice and a lesson learned: I'll never do that again :)@@PrestoAppliances

Hello, I have the 23-quart Presto Pressure Canner. Unfortunately, here in Germany we dont have the usual american sizes of glasses. Exactly 5 glasses fit in the Pressure Canner. Since there is still plenty of room at the top, I would like to make a second layer on top of the bottom one. Is this possible? Do I need a second rack for this? Many greetings from Germany.
Hello! Thank you for reaching out. You mention the glasses are different sizes than American sizes. Could you provide a size that they measure? Volume? What brand name are the jars? We could have a private conversation via email if you prefer. Email contact1@gopresto.com. We are happy to help either via email or here.
@@PrestoAppliances Hello and thank you for the quick reply. Weck brand glasses are widespread in Germany. We also have a lot of them that we always use. We have 1 liter and 0.5 liter jars. We already have a lot of this glasses, so it doesn't make sense to buy new ones. Especially since they will be unaffordably expensive until they are here in Germany. The pressure canner fits 5 large glasses. I would like to place 5 small glasses on these. However, the jars in Germany also have the lid made of glass! Steam escapes from the vent pipe when the regulator rocks. This is normal. However, send us a video if you want us to double check. Our email is contact1@gopresto.com

Thanks for your reply! I realise my canner is an unknown make from China - as the company sent me a silly video of the canner in operation lasting about 2 seconds! I could have bought one from Amazon UK as in France it is useless trying to buy a decent canner. Here all things are from China! I am usually careful with what I buy but oops I made a mistake. I will have to try it as it cost 80 euros and 50 for a trivet for the bottom.

What is meant by making sure digital gauge is working properly? How do you test for this?

Can I pressure can two different sizes of jars pints and quarts ? And how long for ?
Due to the height of the canner, you cannot stack pints with quarts. They simply will not fit.

Does the canner have to be fully loaded, or can I just use a couple jars
The minimum jar requirement for both the 16 quart and 23 quart canners is 2 quarts, 4 pints or 8 half pints.
