    It’s a engine built by Ford based on shared components of the Duratec V6 but it’s not two 6 cylinder engines stuck together. For example it has a different block, crankshaft and heads.
    Many manufacturers have shared components or engines. In fact the Ford engine was developed from a 2.5 litre engine which was a joint effort from Mazda and Suzuki with input from Porsche. Ford worked with Cosworth to develop that engine into a 3.0 V6.
    For Aston Martin the V12 was developed using many Duratec complements and the end result is a V12 that many regard as one of the best engines in the world.

    Hey Tyler. Those 'clever' AM windows? Same as the Merc CLK from many years back. Why? Because there are no protective pillars. Without them, the glass would be meeting at force and disaster might ensue, so a clever switch just to drop both the front and rear window to prevent you having to replace the side glass each time you get in. Enjoy.

    Chief engineer of AM at the time the V12 came out said, that it is not two V6's mated 2gether tho it shares some of it's architecture with the European Ford Mondeo V6.

    • @pdbollinger
      @pdbollinger 4 года назад

      Marrku, you are absolutely correct! Most non-Aston people keep rattling off this ridiculous line about the V12 being two Duratec V6s, Taurus V6s, etc., being welded together. What an absolute lack of proper research! I got to listen to Ian Callum last September along with other members of the design team for the DB7 which was the first car to carry the V12. What an amazing engine! And no, it is not what everyone claims. The design came from the concept of two duratecs, in theory, but was a completely new engine. Also, using Motor-craft alternator and other things is nothing new in the exotic car world. Companies use other parts-bin stuff all the time. This has been going on for decades! The Aston Martin DB4 and DB5 used a Karmann (made by Hella) boot/trunk latch and light, among other things...
