Daniel I’ve had a ton of issues with my 991.2 in my 2 years of ownership. It’s had the engine out 4 times and been in the dealership for probably 4 combined months over those years. Now Porsche has taken care of me by extending my warranty and giving a credit for future service, but when my dealership seemingly drive through and asteroid field and returned my car with 5-6 new rick chips in the front, they gave me another $5k. Those are the most expensive battery terminals in the history of mankind
Yes, that really was about the dumbest car thing on youtube
$10k to clean and tighten the battery terminals. Wow.
For some reason, I read this in Jeremy Clarkson's voice
I bet those battery terminals did *not* fix at all those issues which Tyler experienced during the "Car Trek" series at the Tavarish channel. I personally own a 360 Modena and can speak from experience as I claim that those issues needs the car be driven long enough and transmission being properly at the operating temperatures. There's so much finicy stuff going on with all the sensors and stuff not to mention clutch and the F1 Actuator & F1 Power Unit etc.

Hoovie I call up your video's and watch them when my wife and daughter talk about the money I spend on my 1990 Corvette Z51 6sp. I has 25 seasons of SCCA autocross and time trials in Southern California (so year round) with four season championships. Rebuilt the engine at 135K. Plenty fast and so much cheaper to keep. My engine rebuild cost less than a belt Service on the 348, and I can out run it on course.
For those who might say but it's not a Ferrari, I spent three years teaching people how to driver Ferrari's and Lamborghini's, they are nice, sound sexy, but the owners don't drive them. At least your Delta Pilot drove and tracked this one.
Hmmm, and to think I'm unhappy about spending around $600 in parts on my 17 year old, 250k + miles, Honda cr-v over the last three years.
As I watched this, hearing about the cracked casting aluminum block, I thought: How could Honda (motorcycles) make VFRs that could do 500,000 miles with an engine that could do 11,500 RPM, yet a company like Ferrari has such catastrophic issues? Having had three Volvos all over 220K, and the current one at 170K, no wonder Ferrari ownership has never been for me.

1:20 - The 348 in side-profile always looked like a Toyota MR2 to me.
John Jones interesting to consider that around the same time period you could buy an MR2 Turbo with 245bhp, and with a few minor modifications you could easily add another 40bhp and seriously give the Ferrari a run for its money with none of the expensive servicing requirements.
a red mr2 or nxs looks like a ferrari to every girl.
I thought the same thing and the mr2 prices are creeping up fast these days!
@@rallyekev trust me a 300hp mr2 is a scary scary thing, the wheelbase is too short , the rear end has a terrible desire to go to the front at rapid speed.
@@rallyekev People have hard enough time maintaining their MR2's with the JDM engines because the parts are so scarce these days, never mind adding more horsepower to it.
So, Johnny made that top himself as well as being a skilled mechanic? Kudos to a man of many talents.

My car sense is a disaster 😂
So I come here and watch this man buy junk and lose money on cars to make myself not feel so lonely in my bad decision making capabilities.
I mean, if you’re buying a cheap 348, the best thing to do is to fix it yourself. Yeah it might tank the resale value a bit, but it still saves you a lot of money. They’re not particularly complicated cars, you just have to have the time and space to work on them. Parts are still a little pricey but you’ll save a fortune on labor costs.

Tyler, you never fail to entertain and earn your viewership. Thank you for your hard work (which you make look easy) and entertainment.
Living in the UK where it feels like everybody drives a car with a 2.0 litre Diesel engine, I always get mildly offended when Hoovie shuns a car for having “only 300bhp”.

COMING UP AS SOON AS THE QUARANTINE IS OVER: "I bought an even cheaper Ferrari 360! Now, here are all the things wrong with it."
Your mechanic is a shrewd negotiator.
Tyler, I’ve always supported you. I watch, I click, I’m entertained. When I heard $35k, I paused it. Then. I heard you sold the 360. You claim other purchases are stupid, but most are not. This one, actually is. This car won’t be worth $35k in a year. Zero chance. The analysis has to include the money you will put it in for the next year. Investing in the 360 is clearly so much better in every way. Out of all of your zany purchases, this was the first one that actually is qualified zany. I’m entertainingly shocked. That’s why you are the best.
The guy needs our support and I personally love the channel.
I had the first AND ONLY opportunity in my life to buy a supercar. I had the choice. A '91 348. Or a '91 NSX. I had no knowledge on maintenance costs. I have more knowledge now. I got lucky with my NSX. And I am forever grateful that the dealer selling the 348 treated me like dirt that day.
I can’t help but see my mom’s old impala when you show the back of the 360
Right??
At least it is not Vlad the impaler.
I had the same top issue on my 360. Very common. Tell the new owner that as it's opening, if he reaches directly above your head and feel for that little bar and just lightly push it backwards as the top is going down it should complete the whole cycle without issue. There are elastic straps in the canvas that are supposed to pull that back as it's being lowered, but they stretch over time and don't pull that bar back, resulting in the top getting "stuck" where it did in the video. Common problem that he can google as well.
Hoovie, how many time have you launched the rug on your garage floor accross the room leaving your garage?
Car ninja deserves a ferrari more than anyone else. Dealing with german engineering makes him not only one we are all indebted too, but a titan of maintenance.

If I was a high roller in 1990, I would have looked at the 348, and bought an NSX.
I once found a car with records. It showed the owner doing most of the work. He said he did the timing belt, and had receipts for the belts and other parts needed to do this job. But the job was never done. The parts were probably returned. My mechanic could tell it still had all the original gear.
Even WITH spending $80k in order to make it to JUST 100k miles, I didn't think a Ferrari could do it. They just aren't reliable. And yet, you'll see Corvettes go well over 200k miles with hardly any maintenance.
$80k for 100,000 miles, sounds like less than a dollar per mile! I don't think most Ferrari's are that cost efficient.
It doesn't include the first ten years though
Or the other 80000ish depreciation
I think youre right. My customer went from a Ferrari to a Honda NSX, the first service for the Honda was £200. He said Ferrari wouldn't even open the door for £200. On saying that another customer had an NSX which needed the gearbox removing, that was thousands as the housing was structural.
300 hp in 1990 was fucking insane comparing it to todays standards, clearly no real car guy would be so dumb to say that those numbers arent impressive for 1990

Hoovies selling his Ferraris before they catch fire
I never noticed it before, but while Hoovie is standing beside the 348 in the first few minutes of the video, I realized while looking at the side profile that a 348 is just a very bougie Fiero.
Every time I'm tempted by a cheap exotic, I have a look at your channel and remind myself why that would be a bad idea.
Hoovie to compare I visited a friend who worked for the East Coast Ferrari distributor outside Philadelphia in 1975. Each Ferrari was new (about 40) with a sticker of $22,500. At the same time I worked in a Porsche dealer a 911 Turbo Carrera was $17,500 a normal 911 was a little over 11 grand. Sport car prices have gone crazy the last 20 years.
"If you did all the recommended service at the Ferrari dealer you would have spent more than the cost of the car" - exactly what was planned by Ferrari. "We make more money on parts and our dealers make more money on service that we ever make on manufacturing and selling cars" - internal memo at Ferrari budget meeting :)

"Fix my Alpina and I'll give you a Ferrari 360."
Doesn't matter what make it is, a 30 year old car is going to need near constant maintenance. Little corners of the car will start failing, resulting in downtime and trying to source parts from obscure locations around the world. The upside is that in my country the annual license fee is reduced for cars 30+ years, so you're saving 1-2 hours of labour per year.
"Loose battery terminals..." Precious.
I use a respected independent Ferrari mechanic in Southern California that does my 430 service. I feel I don’t have to use dealer. I looked at 348’s but knew they had problems so I avoided that model. I love the 355 car’s but you still have to drop the engine. The 355 coupe manuals go for $150,000-160,000. In the past 1.5 years they have almost doubled in price. I feel the 430’s are holding their value but are not increasing like the 355’s.
I don’t know why but I always have to turn up my sound so freaking much for your videos. It’s only your videos
Them the advertisements are soooo loud!
Moto z4
I think the only reason they recommend you replace the timing belt so often is because these are high revving engines driven by people who will do nothing but rev the heck out of them all day. They're basically the same belts you'd find in your average Civic or Camry. If you drove it like one of them, you could probably safely drive a Ferrari for 10 years or 80,000 miles before servicing the timing belt. If you drove a Civic like how you drive a Ferrari it would cost you allot in service every year too.
(I do actually like those seats. . . . their's something about them.)
I just figured out that Hoovie was influenced by Jeff Goldblum's speech patterns as a kid.
