The thing is, Tool just has 4 amazing composers who also can perform what they compose. And they also compose/integrate the music together and then Maynard adds a masterpiece of lyrics onto an already created masterpiece. Just mind blowing !!

TooL formed in L.A , in the early 90's, Maynard the vocalist got tired of the craziness of L.A. and he decided to leave that area and moved to Jerome Arizona where he started a Wine vineyard. Also this song is from a comedy bit by Bill Hicks who this album is dedicated to. He refers to a comet hit the San Andreas fault line and California breaks off into the Pacific ocean from a natural disasters, leaving Arizona as a new West Coast, hence Arizona Bay.

    • @soth1sol
      @soth1sol Год назад +15

yes. bill hicks was venerated by the band bc they both have the same mission/ statement. it's why they are named TOOL afterall. bill hicks: "all i'm trying to do, folks, is rid the world of all these fevered fucking egos that are tainting our collective unconscious and making us pay a higher psychic price than we can ever fucking imagine." L.A. - "or HELL A" - in both hicks' act and TOOL's song, represents the raging fevered fucking ego fucking everything up - within society, within ourselves - even if only by dipping into "saturating" "comfortable" mediocrity, banality, regurgitation, bullshit, etc. hicks: "it's time to evolve, folks. you know, evolution didn't stop with us growing thumbs. we are CONSTANTLY evolving". you will notice the same sort of overriding message ...let go, learn to swim, this ocean of chaos, especially of mind. question (circle) authority (square) = think for yourself (alchemical gold) ...44&2 (disharmonic, broken, severed, leaded) consciousness "pointing the finger AT everything but the heart" ...evolving into 46&2 (harmonic, omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, without condition or judgement, golden/christ) consciousness. -_- arizona bay

Videos like yours, make help me remember that there’s a bunch of great Black people out there. I’m not going to dismiss the fact that crime is out of control and there’s a LOT of racist Black people, but this helps with balance. Do you know what I mean? The anti-white hatred is out of control right now and seeing a black guy that loves white people names music is refreshing. Probably like in the 80s when Black people realized how much white people loved black music. We need to unite and not divide.

Polo, I wanted to let you know that right now your videos are my favorite de-stressors, it's so joyful and pure seeing you fall in love with so many songs from my own internal playlist. It's an honor and an enormous pleasure and I am tremendously grateful to you for sharing these wonderful moments with us. :)
I will somewhat call out my peers claiming every Tool track on the discography is a hit, by their nature they're prone to a few artsy tracks that are, let's be real, simply not up to the usual Tool quality, like "Die Eier von Satan," where our lead singer Maynard James Keenan, in strident and passionate German, recites the recipe for "Magic" Sugar Cookies (The Balls of Satan), with *no eggs* emphasized, to a cheering crowd. There's some cool political commentary in that if looked into, but, frankly, everyone knows that song is neat but not a banger. Likewise, "Message to Harry Manback" is a dressed up voicemail message that got left on an answering machine (some debate on whose?) after a friend of a friend overstayed their welcome at some party and needed to be asked to leave. It's worth a listen, but again, hardly a bop.
I'm sorry, y'all, it's only fair. Not yeah, like, every actual "track". But the "songs"? So, impossibly good.
A range of my favorites over the years would include Sweat, Third Eye, and the honestly brilliant Lateralus. Lateralus does this incredible trick where the music is based around the Fibonacci sequence, it's truly mind-bending. I'm pretty sure there's videos here on RUclips that explain that in more detail but honestly it just takes a breathtaking song out of the stratosphere when you realize they sat there and were like "let's do serious math to this next song, yeah?" I hope you get a chance to listen to one or more of these at some point, reaction video or not! They're great songs and if you're enjoying Tool they will only deepen and solidify that appreciation. What a band, right?
Have a good one and look forward to the next video! Sorry for the novel in your comments section!!!

I first discovered Tool at Lollapalooza in 1993. They've been my favorite band since that day. I've seen them live around 20 times and never miss them whenever they come to my city, whichever city I live in at the time.
I've grown up to this. And I'm a better person for it. I am from LA. This exact song awakened me to the truth about Los Angeles and the denizens. My favorite thing to do used to be walk down Hollywood Blvd, jacked in and blasting this song. I felt above it all. I'm not one of these hopeless creatures. I see the truth. I see the real LA.
I've since left LA (for obvious reasons) but I still hold the memory fondly.
Being a female Tool fan is an interesting thing. There's not many of us. I usually go to their shows alone and there's women there...women who's boyfriends made them go. This discomfort is always sort of delicious to me. They don't belong there, they don't get it, they never will. Tool fans are snobs. I'm no exception. We tend to feel like we are awakened. We are tapped into something that most ppl will never know or understand. We are on a different level. And I think the reasons are quite obvious.
I really enjoyed your reaction. I enjoy watching ppl discover Tool. Watch them become something that you can never live without. You're now part of the "club." Welcome.
Oh and it's pronounced like "ON-ě-MA. Hope that helps. I only know for sure because I met the drummer, Danny Carey once at the Queen Mary in Long Beach. Between my fan-girling nervousness, I was able to ask him "What are your favorite songs to perform live?" He mentioned Ænema at the top of his list and I noted his pronunciation of the word. This was back in 2003 and they've released several albums since then, and his preferences may have changed but back then, it was Ænema.
I need to look at your other reaction videos. But if you haven't already, I'd like to suggest Sleep Token's The Summoning and Ieud (ieud) from Igorrr. Both bands are insane and I would enjoy seeing your reactions to both. Enjoy the ride and thank you for reacting to my favorite song from my favorite band. Hope you are well.

One thing about tools entire catalog is the musicianship is masterfully accented with deep meaning lyrics. It’s hard for me to pick a favorite or top 5 songs in their catalog. But this song is one that I have always felt is the most relevant to the world. When I have a bad day and experience what seems to be such a high level of of societal incompetence, this is my go to song. Sometimes I pray for that rain, for a great reset. Just seems so relatable sometimes! Lateralus is probably one of my other favorites as far as deep meaning lyrics.

I love watching you react for the first time to songs that have impacted many, myself included. You owe it to yourself to see Tool live. Many artists claim to live through their music, but Maynard James Keenan embodies his music. The live performance of 'sober', his lurching, unnatural posture and facial expressions attest to that.
He also has a more melodic side project, if you like his clean vocals from the 'I'm praying for rain...' bit. It's called 'a perfect circle' and they're worth a listen.
