- Wood carving is on the menu for this one. Well not really, but it is highly inspired of a famous glide bait from us called - Manta
The cool and deadly action of glide baits are the movements, how they glide from side to side and the balance of them whey you stop, it just stays there, just waiting for your next pull. Deadly.
Converted into a fly took it lot of try and failure but after a bunch I manage to get it how I wanted, the perfect gliding pike fly.
The Surfer-Baby Pike
Hook: Ahrex TP610 #4/0
Glue: Zap a gap brush on, Zap Gel, Gulff Thinman and Flexman
Thread: Power tread 100D, 50D - White
Eyes: Predator eyes 8 mm - Fl. Yellow
Tail: Double tail Medium - Fl. Yellow, 0,70 mm Fl. Carbon, FD Tube 1,8 mm - Clear
Wing: Extra Select Craft fur #142 Fl. Yellow, #159 Golden Olive and Ripple ice fiber #159 Golden Olive
Body: Double Barrel popper, Medium - White

Love it. Manta was my alltime favorite jerkbait before i started flyfishing for pike. Got to try this pattern. Closed season here in holland so time to try and make a couple.

Great fly. I tie flies a lot like lures to, or at least the colors of them. Also, I smash the mono flat with pliers to help it hold better when tying on hook, otherwise I've had mono move on me because it's two round surfaces together.

Ok man, that is one cool fly. It does a motion in the water I only have seen a soft plastic fluke do. You make the tying process look so easy. Thanks for sharing you talent on RUclips!

Can truly appreciate the R&D work that goes into developing fly and lure designs. I use to rack my brain 🧠 on how to impart actions from the conventional lure and I will again once I get into a house again and set up my fly tying station. What line do you fish this on? I would think either an intermediate or slow sink line. On a floating line would this ride too high?
Floating line would do fine. I tied his hover fly and that goes just below the surface like 10 cm below

The size of double tail in the material list says size M. I ordered some but they look quit small? Is a XL also possible?
