Not trying to hate, but this was a very oversimplified review that ignores most of the nuance and well-done things in the game. The game has flaws but it is not the aspects you mostly touched on. It really sounds like you aren't pushing your build to be powerful (which is necessary in gmgow). Lock-on breaks when an enemy leaps from your field of view, this makes sense and sounds better than whipping the camera 180 degrees. Your other issues seem based on this being a cinematic style game. Not even worth going into how much you undersell the story, writing, themes, OST, or the Mocap. This review is undercooked my man.
I mean, I did upgrade my build and used some abilities to my advantage. That doesn’t really change the fact that this game(mostly GMGOW) is unbalanced. Like do I have to be the strongest I can possibly be to criticize the difficulty of the game? Regarding the auto lock issue, there’s a very easy solution to it: ZOOM OUT THE CAMERA! It’s that simple. Then my auto lock wouldn’t constantly drop targets and the camera won’t whip around the screen. This game came out in 2018. Stuff like this shouldn’t be acceptable. I honestly didn’t even notice the OST in any of my playthroughs. But it’s fine, I guess? I’m curious to know what problems did you have with the game that I didn’t mention?

Many people myself included have beaten this game on gmgow cause they liked the challenge. If you're not that kind of person just lower the difficulty and most of your problems are fixed

I don’t agree with the story problems, in my opinion it’s an amazing story 👍. Also I don’t think this guy paid a lot of attention to the character dialogues because of his problems with balder, freya, and especially mimir. They all have a lot of character
I can see that if you don't enjoy conversation, Mimir appears boring. Maybe you gloss over nuances in the dialogue. For me personally, GOW 2018 is rich of moments that men can relate to. Being with kids can come naturally to women/mothers and for fathers it is a struggle to adjust to the kids' creativity, openness, joy, naivity, curiosity just as it is for Kratos. I don't know how old you are but I myself am definitely one of the men that connects to older kids more easily than with the young ones (maybe I should add that I'm a therapist, I'm not running around looking for them). My siblings all have babies and I just can't really be myself around them, they just lie around and cry and poop. And I can feel the change in my own reception of the world. As a kid I loved action, adventures, spectacle, I couldn't sit still. Looking back now on my time with my dad, I mostly remember the moments of calm, of conversations with my dad, of sitting silently watching the sunset with a beer in our hands... Maybe you'll replay this game in 10 years again, I'd be interested in your views then.

Hard disagree. Hate that you didn't appreciate the 2018 game(and under-cooked the telling of the story, IYO), but most loved it. Only criticism I had was the overuse of trolls. But a very great game nevertheless... Worthy of it's GOTY award. 🥳
It is, yes. It's still an 8.5/10 imo. Definitely not as good as the original trilogy but still a great game. The combat unfortunately massively lets it down and is a huge downgrade.

I never said I didn’t care about any aspects of the game. In fact, I said I liked some things about it. But I also don’t like some things about it. It’s pretty simple. Part of the importance of criticizing works of fiction, even if you like some parts about it, is that it gives the opportunity for things to be improved. That’s why negative reviews are important. There’s almost no video on my channel that’s 100% negative. The idea is to point out flaws in a movie/game, so that they may be improved. Especially works of fiction that are highly praised. There may be problems that people overlook due to a couple of great aspects about them and the general hype around it. Which is why I enjoy making these types of videos.

Yes. Yes it absolutely is. It is still a masterclass in game design, world building, re-inventing characters, narrative, the whole megillah.
I don’t know if you’ve played Ragnarok yet but almost all your problems are fixed in that game except for combat staying mostly the same
