Shea Moisture products changed after the owner sold it. It's no longer Black owned. It started breaking my hair in 2018. And I noticed old containers had different ingredients and found out it was sold. I think to Loreal
Loreal does not own Shea Moisture - unilever does. I tried a few black owned hair companies and broke off my hair. Loreal saved my hair. Giving your hair what it needs shouldn't be based on race. Black owned / White owned - who cares long as the product is working for you.
I said THINK it was sold to Loreal. Black owned means nothing stop picking over what people say. I use whatever works. I use Innersense which is not black owned. But anyway it doesn't matter who Shea Moisture was sold to nor do I care the ingredients are not the same. It caused issues to my hair.
The basics of hair care count. Clarify, cleanse, deep condition, and balance protein with moisture. Shea Moisture is still working for me (thank goodness). One pass with a clarifying shampoo followed by a moisturizing shampoo is all I need to deal with buildup
Most salons don't clarify. They just use the same shampoo twice. The whole moisturizing shampoo is a whole myth and a half. You just need a clarifying shampoo twice on the hair before conditioning.
I decided to give Shea moisture a go again because I’ve seen they had new stuff. I wish i haven’t my hair has dried out, breaking off. So glad i tested it in my head before using it in my daughters hair.
Before you said product build up I said the same thing in my head. You gotta clarify when using these heavy products and a lot of people don’t know they need to. Thanks for highlighting this 👏🏾
I’ve been using shea moisture for years never had and problems with it I’m surprised at the comments but hey I guess it’s different for everybody I guess ..I have 4c hair also I’ve found that when I wash my hair I need to wash with a clarifying shampoo or a sulfate free shampoo then follow up with a moisturizing conditioner
I stopped using Shea moisture a while ago because the products just weren’t doing it for my hair anymore. They weren’t moisturizing and my hair just felt meh. I do agree that clarifying is important. I do it at least once a month or whenever I feel like my hair needs it. It does make such a difference.
I clarify every 2 weeks since I use gels for my wash and go's. I love Kinky Curly-Come Clean, Camille Rose-Ginger Rinse, and Nature's Little Secret-Lemon and Rosemary shampoo. Then I follow with a moisturizing shampoo and deep conditioner. Love your channel and so glad to have you back!
As much as I love my kinky curly knot today and curling custard those are the only products I’ve tried from them! I need to get that shampoo next time I run out! And TYSM!! I’m so happy to be back filming 🤗
I think Shea moisture products have changed since the company sold. I use only 2 products. I feel in the community shampoos and clarifying one had a bad reputation. I was convinced of their uses when I read the book the science of black back 2013 so a year before deciding to my natural hair. I'm glad people are realizing clarify shampoos should be use when using heavy products.
I’ve been natural since 2013 and I to this day use sheamoisture and honestly I still like their products, not all their products work for my hair but some of my “most used” are from them.
Avalon Organics lemon clarifying shampoo is my JAM! The 1st ingredient is aloe vera. This shampoo somehow manages to leave my hair "squeaky clean" and soft at the same time. They have also just released a new Apple Cider Vinegar formula which I just tried and also really loved!
I will say thattt I do not go out and try their new stuff like I used to but when I do I try one at a time. The last new item I tried that I really enjoy the the Manuka honey leave in the bottle that we could not squeeze out!! well now it is finally in a jar!! I still use it . I will say a lot of black naturals seem to still have a problem identifying when they are using too much protein after all these decades. IDK what the problem is but I feel like we blame everything and everyone but ourselves when protein overload comes into play. It seems as if we no longer are reading the ingredient list to see if there are any proteins or how many are in 1 mask!...
why everyone on the comments complaining about shea moisture?? i'm using it right now and there's nothing wrong with my hair my curly hair seems to love it. i use the cocnut and hibiscus conditioner, shampoo and curl enchancing smoothie. (i'm also a boy btw idk if that will help)
Currently going through this with the JBCO shampoo from them. I notice I get a little more hair fall when rinsing out the shampoo between the last couple wash days. I immediately stopped using it and decided to stick to Crème of Natural Argan Oil shampoo or any shampoo from Design Essentials. Sometimes it’s best to stick to rivers and the lakes that you’re use to 💁🏽♀️ Oh and using a shower filter is a real gamer changer too.
Etsy has some good shampoos and conditions that has some good organic, simple ingredients. Also, when I washed my hair with just water, as well as I could, and one product for styling-my hair thrived.
They changed their formulas on some and if not all of their products. It's drying out my hair as well. I'm switching over to Camille Rose, but I need another "souffle" type of styler. Currently looking at As I Am Curling Jelly. It seems the USA version of the SM Souffle I can't get in Canada. (The Canadian version dries out my curls). I don't understand how they can't just leave well enough alone!
Been using Shea Moisture for a year straight just to realise that I’m using too much protein. My hair has been snapping off, it’s super brittle and thin and it’s literally heartbreak! I guess we’re all going through it 🥲
I use to love the jbco hair mask even though it smells like play doh. It use to give me some protein but leave my hair soft. I used it last year and it had zero slip, tangled my hair badly and I broke so much hair off trying to detangle. I let my man use it and he was pissed. The same thing happened to him. I was going to throw it away immediately after I used it but he is always talking about no, let me use it and see how my hair responds. Needless to say, I don't think he wants me to keep any hair products I hate around anymore😅
I used to love the JBCO BEVAUSE it smelled like play doh lol.. and I used to love it too smh. Haven’t used it in a while so thanks for the heads up about the reformulation 😩
I tried shea moisture today thats why am here😢 it knotted my hair so bad i had to break it off, dont know what i was thinking when i decided to switch from tresemme, think amma try cantu next😅 i have a mixture of curly and straight hair so its a struggle with my hair
Yes I agree! I stopped using Shea Moisture when they sold it. Their products were never the same after that. I don't recommend to anyone and if their using it I tell them to find other products for their hair. I started clarifying twice a month due to consistent build up and I always use a deep conditioner after I use any shampoo. My low porosity hair needs it.
why??? i'm using shea moisture today and nothing is wrong with my hair, my curly hair seems to love it i use the conditioner, shampoo and curl enchanting smoothie
@@Xiao-r9vsorry, I am late. I love shea moisture. It keeps my hair very moisturized. I hope people do not start any problems with this company since it is the only product that works for my hair and I have been using it for a long time.
They announced a few days ago that they changed the formula of some of their popular lines. They are supposed to be enhanced now. Would you try them again?
i’ve been using different shea moisture for the past year or so and at first it made my hair look amazing, but today on my wash day has me done w shea moisture. it did nothing for moisturizing my hair and made it more frizzy and not defined.
@@DanielleRenee321 yeah i typically use their older products but on wash day i decided to use the coconut and hibiscus line and it didn’t help my hair at all
Very imformative vid and made sense; I dunno if the title suits it tho lol. I use shea moisture, but maybe im ok because when i take out my 2 strand twists, i use acv which makes it easier to take out the twists and it kinda cleans+conditions my hair+scalp. Then after ill wash my hair with the shea moisture line
Is clarifying shampoo only for like kinkier hair types?? My hair is a lot lighter, but still very curly. I’m mixed with Mexican, Arab and white lmao any advice yall?
