I am reminded of the (very) old joke about the vicar who is eating an egg that is somewhat off. When asked if it was alright, his reply was the classic, "Parts of it are very good." In this case, it is the parts Phoebe Russell plays that are very good. Eddy needs to follow the advice on his t-shirt if he is going to continue to have a relationship with the double bass.
utopian space make sure you study how to poker face. You never know when you'll end up in a TwoSet video... ...oh wait. Just in case, let me ask - you're not her, are you?😅
Lol she's like the teacher who has to keep a straight face and tell the student they're making progress I mean look at 0:43 she’s like mm mhm ur getting there... 😂
Lol my teacher doesn't even care. He just says we sound like a dying herd of cows, even though we've played with him from all of middle school. (He's just joking though... Well, some of the time.)
@@dollbunni My conductor a.k.a. orchestra director (a teacher) always says, 'I want more! Bass, give me more! To the bridge!' And we like 'Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh' And guess what? He was a cellist and he is able to play double bass in tune 😲
Blue moon pack You don't really get blisters when playing the bass unless you slide around in the top octave all day. The strings are thick enough to not cut into the fingertips, they feel pretty mellow. I've only ever had blisters on the right hand from playing pizzicato. BUT you need immense strength in the left hand fingers to actually get the strings down firmly onto the fingerboard to enable a nice sound, especially higher up the fingerboard. If you played a violin like a bass you would break it clean in two.
Then you must be quite arrogant which she is not. No one begins playing well, as both her and you must know because you've been there. She is being respectful not to mention they are friends.
I play both the cello and the double bass, and I am glad that TwoSet showed that they both are not easy instruments, unlike many parents think just because they are not violins.
I love when player get so into the music they like bop their head and move with music. It makes the performance much more interesting instead of them sitting like a statue in a museum
I never play moving my head or body. Believe me, I feel the music, but I just don't do that. I know it looks better, but I'm more comfortable standing/sitting still.
wow the bass is such a beautiful instrument! it's typically such an underrated instrument and I rarely ever get to hear it in all its glory like in this video
I love how Eddy was really trying to play the double bass. Unlike their other videos where they just mess around and play the instrument as horribly as possible. 😂
i was suffering. had to skip all beginner's part after the first three. kudos for trying. didnt realize how much i like the sound of double bass until now.
The best part is watching the bassist's face when Eddy's playing, and seeing the hope when she nods followed by suppressed pain. Also, it's super cool that string skills seem to be vaguely transferrable between instruments? Like how does Eddy know where the notes are on the bass??
Is it wrong that whilst I am in awe of your flawless piano and violin playing, I'm actually relieved that you and Brett have your limitations! Great work as always. Keep it up. 👍🎻👏
Yay a bass vid! I play French bow hold but it’s nice to see how I can shift faster and easier. Also the E string is my worst nightmare. It’s hard to finger on.
I stumbled coincidentally over this video and its the first time i see a Lady playing Contrabass. I'm deeply impressed about her skills and precision. I assume she played Cello before she changed to bass. Shes Gold! Thanks for this show! All the best for you two as well and cheers! :-) PS The shirt of the man is amusing also! :D
Half of this video was really good
@TheGreatestDuck Obviously

😂😂😂
And the other half was about professional play.

It's true. Broke a violinist's arm once with my pinky. Oops.

I never realized how beautiful the double bass could sound. Also, that bow hold is so different from the violin!
German Bow
