Ant is right about the not looking thing. One of my best friends passed late last year and me and another friend had to identify the body. It has stuck with me since and I remember it at least once a week. I don't know if it was a real quote or not, but the soldier that said "let them fall face down if they must die. It makes it easier to say goodbye." knew exactly what he was talking about.

2 of my favorite lines that I've ever heard came from Greg.
2 - When he said "Lisa Lampanelli was like the octomom. She doesn't have any kids but she has had 80 fingers in her at the same time."
1 - When he said Flavor Flav looked like "Idi Amin had a 3 year crack binge on the sun."
I missed so much of Flav's roast after that that I had to go back and watch it 3 or 4 times. Greg Giraldo was a master. Nobody can take his place.

Jimmy said he wouldn't speculate on what happened. Two minutes later he speculates. He was apparently a great friend of Greg but didn't know how old his kids were? Of course, he made a statement to the press about this tragic death. Self-serving worm. Opie is trying for the grave, serious broadcaster but sounds almost gleeful at times discussing it. He cheerfully talks about Greg's OD and then goes, "it's a tough one man" and keeps blowing air through his lips like it's so rough for him. He brings up false rumors and says, "well that's why we don't want to bring any of that shit up." You just did! His sincerity is non-existent. "I didn't know him well at all...He was one of my favorites." Me me me. I would rather they say nothing then be so obviously false.

This comes off like a weird "I knew Giraldo, but not really, I knew his kids, but not really, I grieved his loss, but, really, we were just trying to figure out how to discuss him diplomatically on our pre-taped show."
Patrice saw (and empathized with) something there that the others missed, or didn't care about -- witness him dropping out of the bit, halfway through, when he (Patrice) says "No, man, I feel really bad for Greg, I wanna help him, I want him to get in touch with me off the air." Sad that they died within ~14 mos of each other.

    • @onpsxmember
      @onpsxmember 6 лет назад

Yeah, you need food. But with diabetes you have to make sure what food you eat. I've had two cases of diabetes in my family, both were almost 80 when they checked out. That is manageable. You watch your blood sugar, you take the injections and watch what you eat. Food craving isn't even close to a hard drug addiction +j depression. They both had a choice...It was easier for Patrice. I give him shit because I like the guy.
      His laughter alone...

Sir, how can a person be “cool,” “great,” and “lacking in self-confidence?” He graduated from Harvard Law School. Are you saying comics who engage in recreational drugs because they can’t stand being “cool” and “lacking in self-confidence”?
If you are an entertainer and live that lifestyle than you have rocks of steel!!!
Please qualify this statement as you imply every comic who does drugs are phenomenally insecure. How about the insecurities of an America with phenomenally overload of drug abuse centers? An America that has a phenomenally large increase in heroin, prescription drugs, marijuana, synthetics and our favorite alcohol for the past 40 or so years. Every day someone who abuses makes a decision. For example, an intoxicated person turning the ignition in his car. Insecurities occupy everyone and grow everywhere like grass.

Someone who has insecurities is the type of comic who goes to Washington, D.C., maybe?

Also, just because someone is charismatic & can perform publicly in a creative field, doesn't exclude them from being insecure/lacking in confidence. Often with good comedians, their very best humor comes from the type of perception only an introverted outsider could have, even if such a disposition could lead to the worst for some like Giraldo

Sounds like the classic OD. Was clean for a while, doing well, might have been stressed. Cop some bags and slam what you used to when you had tolerance.

It happened at my brothers hotel in Springfield NJ, still don't know why he stayed all the way up there when New Brunswick has much more nice hotels, who knows, maybe that's where his druggie buddy connections were, but it's a real expensive swanky hotel.. lotta white collar coke n oxy fans, shit is outta control now especially that everyone of the old prescription opiate pill addicts have completely accepted heroin as the new cheaper substitute, it's truly insane to imagine this could be reality in 2019

Some say that it was again prescription drug and alcohol. Probably Xanax and booze.
He also mentions it on the flight bit. Especially hard drug users often underestimate what they'll do to them + booze.
While all the benzodiazapines (xanax, valium etc...) are already shitty if taken a lot, EVEN a small dose of them mixed with booze can kill you. If you read "don't take with alcohol"...fucking listen.
An especially bad mix up is adderall and booze. Even guys like Stanhope warn from it.

Greg Giraldo wasn't rich, though. He was the guy who networks tried to use multiple times, but none of the projects he ever entered into got off the ground. He wasn't poor, as he was a successful stand-up and probably had some money from those pilots, but he definitely didn't die from getting too much money/success.
