- Jim Norton, Jay London and Jessica Delfino in studio, featuring a phoner from Henry Rollins. Henry begins by talking about his travels. Jimmy pipes in a few times with his, “My friend was like, then I was like” interview shtick, and Henry doesn’t catch on. Jay pipes in with a few one-liners that get crickets. When Opie asks Henry if he would ever commit to comedy, Jimmy takes offense with Henry’s response where Henry seemingly downplays comedians and comedy. Later, Henry makes it worse by implying he’s a bigger fan of Richard Pryor than any of them and it sets Jimmy off because Pryor was one of Jimmy’s biggest influences.
Jimmy decides to test Henry’s knowledge of Richard Pryor, and Henry makes it clear that he respects comedians and loves comedy. Henry explains what he meant, and he hilariously doesn’t apologize to Jimmy. They move past it, and end up having an interesting debate about comedy where they talk about Bill Cosby, Lenny Bruce, Bill Hicks, George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Andrew Dice Clay, etc., and realize they actually have similar taste in comedy. Then Henry shares some inspirational thoughts about how people should deal with depression. After the call, Jimmy explains why he was initially upset with Henry’s comments, and they all have a laugh about the fact that Jay’s jokes didn’t go over well with Henry.
I think Yimmy and Henry are the same kind of kid who went different paths. Henry found weights and punk, Jim found his pal’s mule under the porch

Henry Rollins is a ZERO in terms of substance. From his fake tough guy persona, shitty music, to his endless, paper thin opinions on almost every serious topic he discusses. Jimmy never found an angle to passively aggressively attack Henry without him staying poised. Opie tried to instigate but Henry is calmer than Jimmy and Jimmy knows Henry has a larger vocabulary and just listened intently to fact check as a solution to being an equal. Once the call was over they raised their voices.
Jim's ego took over when he started rattling off stats on Pryor like he was reading a baseball card. That was just embarrassing.

I've known of Henry Rollins since the def jam game back in the early/mid 2000's.... To this day I have no fucking clue why he's famous or known. You see him pop up randomly in stuff but I have no clue what he did to actually be known.

As someone who enjoys both figures, I get a lot of joy over the fact that they have interracted before. Shame it went down this way. For what its worth, I think the value in listening to Rollins today is to glean inspiration to maximize your work ethic and try new things. Norton on the other hand is just hilarious and strangely relaxing to listen to. I am of course a fan of Jim and Sam.

I think henry is an introvert, but switches to his "on" persona because it pays the bills. In his short time on this earth, he has had more real life experiences, and seen shit that the collective experience in that room ('ceptin maybe jimmy) could not ever come close to. Henry isn't all that socially adept, but he reads. I'm sure he would rather be immersed in a book, than talking to radio djs. All he does is flip the switch when they tell him, and he doesn't stop telling stories until they signal him to stop, or hang up. Henry then, and only then returns to his 136th read through of Capote's In Cold Blood while sipping his Lemon Zinger, now a groin grabbingly enfuriating 15 degrees cooler than when he began the phone call.

Always been a fan of Jim Norton but he really does always have to be “the most patriotic American” and you’re not gonna outthink a brilliant guy like Henry Rollins. Norton should have someone explain that you can support the troops without supporting the wars, support people who volunteer to serve but still be against your government. Rich people make wars to profit from at the cost of poor Americans who have little economic opportunity outside of joining the military.
You gotta get out of the little towns if you really want to know what a country is like. I used to be an Uber driver in Washington DC and I would meet people from all over the world. If I ask them what they've seen in our country they'd say Washington DC and New York.. I would tell them that that's not our country and you haven't seen any of our country yet.
For what it's worth I've never been a big fan of Henry Rollins, hes very uninteresting to me.
I've lived in two big cities (Chicago and New Orleans) and found them both to be just one big bubble. Most of the people who live in those cities never even leave a certain radius. Racial tension is far higher than in small towns. Most people in those cities seem to avoid anyone who isn't "like them" except for occasional casual small talk. When I worked a remodeling job in Chicago every neighborhood was almost exclusively one race. The small town I'm from and currently live in isn't like that. Yes, most people in my neighborhood are white but we have 3 or 4 black families within a two or three block radius as well as a couple of Asian households and one Indian family who live next door. Those are the just the ones that I'm aware of. Except for those gated communities that only the 1% can afford, we don't cordon off most of our neighborhoods. We're a pretty good representation of the typical American demographic.

Very nice one. Dude was on Rogan for the second time about a week or two ago. Awesome lineup of comedians they discuss; I had no idea Henry liked comedy that much based on his Rogan appearances, maybe I just missed it. Rogan sort of played him up as a musician, but he does all kinds of stuff. I loved David Lynch's film "Lost Highway", he was in that, albeit a minor role.
