Glitter&Coffee I watched A video from another gal who teaches labor classes at hospitals and she said that everyone has a different pain tolerance. Some people may want to have natural births but when they are that intense part of labor they change their minds and decide to have an epidural and it’s A-OK. Other people can tolerate the pain and can push through it. I was definitely one of those people who wanted a natural birth but in the end the pain was too much for me and the epidural was definitely a relief for me so that I could actually enjoy the birth. Of course epidurals have their own consequences and epidurals have stalled each of my births but in the long run everything worked out so I’m grateful.

Jennifer Wallace I agree. I had an unmedicated labor and delivery with my youngest. I was good until transition. Fear set in and then the pain felt worse I was scared I couldn’t do it. I was exhausted didn’t feel I was pushing right. A few months later my husband told me he thought I was dying. I thought that was funny. I had no clue he was thinking that during delivery. Currently 36weeks now and trying my best to not be nervous because I can remember how my last labor felt. I’m going to try for I medicated again but I will accept pain medication if I need rest.

I delivered my baby 9 days ago without pain medication but I had to be induced. I definitely used "these contractions are not stronger than me, they are me." I also used "my body knows exactly what it is doing or my body is doing exactly what it should be doing"
Definitely wouldn't have thought of those without this video. My contractions never got to the unbearable state, just uncomfortable like any other cramp.
I pushed my baby out and I didn't even have a clue I was so focused on the push. My husband had to tap my shoulder and tell my our baby is in the doctors arms and I was like what?!
It was such an amazing first labor and delivery experience.

Warm Bath during most painful contractions is how I managed the pain before my water broke and was ready to go out and start pushing! Highly recommend it! While being in the bathtub my husband would put cold wet towel on my forehead between contractions, and during contractions he would pour warm water over me. Without this I think I would have given up and asked for an epidural. My nurse was amazing.

  • @margaritadelarosa338
    @margaritadelarosa338 4 года назад +26

It is possible!! I had my baby 3 month ago I was so scared of not knowing what it would feel like, hearing everyone saying that it is the worst pain ever, the scary stories about everyone's experience... yet I set my mind that I wanted to avoid getting an epidural and not gonna lie that was mainly because I'm such a wimp about needles 😂 Since I started my 3 trimester I began watching birthing videos and tips to tolerate pain. As soon as I started contractions I got scared, they weren't painful at all so I knew I had to get induced... as my contractions started getting stronger I still didn't feel the pain people would tell me about and I was scared because I thought I might not be progressing (my nurse or Drs didn't check my dilation until 10 pm since 5 am) by 11 I was getting strong contractions because it was time for me to push but my nurse said not to do it cause I wasn't dilated enough, which made me scared cause I thought that might be the pain everyone talked about but little did we know my baby's head was showing already 😂 and it was time to push... 15 mins later he was out! All I want to tell you mamas is to not be afraid! Every contraction means you're closer to meeting your baby and maybe that could work as motivation? Also everyone's experience is different, do not let the fear take over and just because you do decide to get an epidural doesn't mean you're weak! For some reason I was not able to walk around which I believe that it slowed down my progress but I did a lot of breathing and that's what got me through everything easier, I found the sound of his heart soothing and I would just focus on it while breathing. Try different positions, breathing techniques and focus points and trust me it will make everything better! Good luck to everyone having their babies soon, specially during this scary time... may God bless you and your journey! ♥️

My first baby I didn't have an epidural because of the fear of it messing up my back ( my mother suffers reoccurring back pain after having multiple epidurals) I love the fact that I could get up and kinda walk off the pain and re position my self to find the best position for me. My mindset going into Labor (as weird as it sounds) was "I'm the oldest of 6 if my mum can do it 6 times I can do it I got this!" I 3nded up being in Labor for 10 hours total, most of which was at home, 3 hours of active Labor and only 1st degree tearing. Lots of love from Australia!

My nurse, a very young lady just out of school was the most memorable part of my “precipitous”labor. Long story but I was already in L&D and getting discharged when my water suddenly broke and baby was born in a half hour. She suspected that baby was coming quickly when my water broke and I told her I had to use the bathroom. The resident doctor dismissed it and was hesitant to call the anesthesiologist because she didn’t think I was far enough in labor (my screams were seen as me being a drama queen). My nurse allowed me to squeeze her hands through the intense contractions since my husband wasn’t even there and I was not given an epidural. She called my OB in the middle of the night to rush in. I remember her putting a cold rag on my head. I just remember feeling terrible pain and feeling terrified and I’m so glad she was there for me.

      2. You may feel like your vagina is being electrocuted in the second trimester it's called lightening vagina. Frozen condoms are the cure
      3. Maternity clothes you can buy whenever. I bought bras really early on and pants. Maternity underwear is expensive but will grow with you before and after pregnancy

“Unnecessary intervention” is the name of the game and has been for as long as I have been alive. Most people treat birth as a medical procedure even though it is a natural process. Keep using this platform to educate and empower women who desire a natural or unmedicated birth story! I had unmedicated births with each of my three children. I was DETERMINED that is Mary could do it in an animal stable on hay, I could do it in a hospital bed on clean sheets 😂 I gave you a high five 🖐🏽 when you brought up cave women!! I still believe the birth process was the most spiritual experiences of my life! Our bodies are astonishing! 💙💗💙

Precious animals were kept in the bottom level of the home not outdoors. Mary did not give birth in a stable or in an inn it was just a family home. The guest room would have been too small to labor in The Holy family were offered the highest level of hospitality staying on the bottom floor of the home which had a manger for the animals who were brought in at night but was no barn/stable.

So I did the research, meditation, yoga, lots of walking, etc to help keep my body in shape for it. I took the classes at the hospital etc.
I was in labor for 13 hours. I pushed for 2 hours (good grief). And I managed it all without an epidural! 💪🏼

It is a natural response for a western world woman to answer yes to the drugs when asked like that because we are taught to fear the pain of childbirth and told we can't handle the pain. Even though all women over time before these drugs existed did it without them. Our maternity industry needs to change and relent power of childbirth BACK to women. It is all about controlling women.

I was 2 months out of 17 years old when I had my first, and a month shy of 21 years old with my second, both were unmediated beyond the IV meds to take the edge off, and honestly, that was enough.
I felt everything and it was so empowering (and just to be clear, I'm not some yoga and kale super mommy, I was an anxious, and low self esteemed coward) and I blocked everything out and just focused on my body and what I was feeling.
Both of my labors were only a few hours long, 0 complications, my second son shot out like a rocket at 9lbs 6.5oz, yay!
I'm not saying this is a guarantee for everyone else, or even anyone else, but I wanted to give an encouraging unmedicated birth story.

I've had 3 unmedicated births. First birth was 6 hrs long, second birth was 2 hrs long, and my 3 was an hour. So with my fourth I'm hoping I just make it to the hospital! Not worried about pain management just wanna make there in time😬😂

That's what I'm hoping with the one I'm currently pregnant with. That I just make ot to the hospital. My hospital is 43 minutes away. My 1st was born an hour and 43 minutes after my water broke, my 2nd was born an hour and 13 minites after my water broke, and, if the pattern continues that way, I'll give birth at home or in the car because they'll be born in 43 minutes. And I don't feel my early labor contractions AT ALL. I only start feeling things after my water breaks. 😅

I’m just sad this whole covid19 thing ruined the baby classes I was taking at the hospital to know the ins & outs about having a baby & giving birth. Now I just use youtube & the books they gave us to look over ugh. The class was fun! I learned a lot. I’m now 4 weeks or less away from having my daughter & I’m not as nervous, because I trust my body cuz it really is made to do this. But thank you for helping us out! 💓

Already given birth 3 days ago to my second child. This video just popped up and I'm like what the heck let's check it out. Really wish I could have watched this before I had my first. These are great info. I opted for the epidural during my first not knowing much at all about how it would effect the whole thing. I've always regretted it. So when my second birth came around I was more determined to go without it. And I did it!!! It was an entirely different experience to be able to feel everything. It was painful but manageable, breathing techniques and screaming sure helped a lot but having a good mind set goes a long way. She is right, you can do it!!! Let your body do what it needs to do don't numb the feeling because it will just make the process harder. With out that numbing feeling I was intuned with what my body needed to do. Like pushing. With the epidural I didn't know when I really needed to push or if I'm making any progress. Had to rely on my nurse most of the time to tell me what's going on. I was able to feel that urge to push and I was able to deliver my son a whole lot faster than my first child. It was more rewarding in the end too. Labor with the epidural lasted 26 hours and without the epidural it lasted only 4. They said having a second child would be easier but I do believe going without the epidural made it go faster.

I am 17 weeks pregnant with my first baby and the thought of labor, delivery, epidurals, c-sections, natural births, IV's, etc is all so overwhelming. Your videos are so informative and make me feel a lot better about the whole ordeal. I hope when the time comes my labor and delivery nurse is as cool as you.

  • @stefanielozinski

Adding my two cents in regard to when to go to the hospital - do not be afraid to go if your gut feeling is telling you to, especially if that feeling is persisting. I just had my second child 7 weeks ago, and though my birth was overall fine with no complications for me or baby, I deeply regret waiting to go to the hospital against my own judgement (my midwife encouraged me to wait and see and I felt bad about pestering her in the middle of the night, so I listened). I was only having contractions 5-6 minutes apart and I had only been 2cm dilated a few hours prior, so on paper it wasn’t time to go. However, the pain was INTENSE. Like as intense as the final parts of my labor with my first child. I wanted to just be in the hospital and be ready to go, but I didn’t feel confident in myself to just go anyway. Especially since it was my second birth without pain meds, I should have known, lol.
All’s well that ends well, but I literally went from 5 mins apart to barely 2 minutes apart in one contraction, the pain was so bad I started to full on panic. Instead of just being in the hospital ready to go, I was at home with my husband who had never even seen a birth, feeling my daughters head pressing downward big time. I was wondering how the hell I would be able to instruct my husband to help me if I had to have her right then and there, and st the time it felt like a real possibility. I had him call an ambulance, my midwife met us at the hospital and I had to hold in pushing while I waited for my husband to arrive! NEVER AGAIN.
I agree entirely with this video, 150%, but please don’t go against your instincts because you don’t want to inconvenience others. It’s their job! You’re the one having a baby! Looking back now my daughter’s birth is definitely a story to tell but at the time I just felt shocked, scared, and frankly traumatized. It went better than my first labor physically (no tearing and much shorter!! Woo!) but the psychological impact is no joke. I had basically convinced myself I was still pretty early on (because that’s what it should have been on paper) so it was extremely hard to mentally prepare to be pushing 30 minutes later.

“You can do this.” My labor nurse said this to me when I had my son five days ago. I’d planned on having an epidural, but there was no time for any kind of pain management. I so badly needed to hear that, she was amazing. Good labor nurses can make all the difference in delivery, especially when things don’t go to plan.

Thank you for being so positive about this. When I say I want to do it unmedicated I some times get really discouraging reactions as if it’s a really far-fetched goal, but I don’t understand why. It felt really good just to hear you say “you can do it” because I literally just feel like I don’t want the interventions. They don’t appeal to me. I find it disempowering when people are so skeptics of this.

I really like how you talked about limiting cervix checks. I was induced at 39weeks 2 days because my husband was deploying in 24 hours. I got discouraged because I was at 3cms all day, & I worried that my husband would have to leave before the birth, or I'd need a c-section. But after the ob broke my water, I went from 3cms to 10cms in about an hour!

I’ve worked so damn hard for an unmedicated birth...sometimes it doesn’t work and it’s ok.
I’ve been induced with hormones on a Wednesday night, labor started on Thursday morning but stopped, so I had to be induced with Pitocin in the early afternoon. Finally the contractions were back and my doula helped me a lot dealing with the excruciating pain for most of the rest of the day and night. Unfortunately, despite my strong will, the pain got so intense, (we were now Friday very early morning), I asked how much I was dilated so I can motivate myself, but I got told I wasn’t even dilated at 2. I couldn’t possibly stand another 10hours of this so I asked for the epidural after another hour of suffering. A good thing to know is that you can actually have a “lighter” epidural so you can still feel the contractions (it was like 70% less painful) and still feel the baby while pushing. So at least I wasn’t numb and could easily use my muscles.

No shame in getting an epidural even if that wasn't in your original birth plan. Besides, pitocin is the devila cocktail. That mess will make your labor really intense without letting up.

I’m very passionate about having my future children without an epidural if possible. My mom gave birth to my brother and I both unmedicated. When I was born, I came out in the breached position and inhaled a bunch of fluids. I had to kick and fight my way out of the birth canal. The doctor told my mom after I survived that it probably helped my chances of survival that I wasn’t exposed to the epidural medication, which probably would have sedated me and kept me from fighting my way out. I also 100% agree with the fact that we are literally made to give birth NATURALLY! We really don’t need all that pain medication. I’m not pregnant and never have been, but I like to learn for the future. Thanks for another super informative video!

I had no complications & labor helped me feel closer to my baby and my body. Ended up in a C-section, but that time spent laboring was NOT wasted 💕 She's 1yr old today & I love her just the same as the day she was born 😄
*Tip: Labor is painful but not suffering.* If you feel what you can describe as suffering (like, your heart hurts. trust me you'll know). Then ask for some relief. Baby's gonna come out today even if you take nap and some IV-meds or epidural. Stay blessed 🎁🎉

I’ve been enjoying watching your videos. I am currently pregnant with our 8th child. I never had a birth plan, I never really put too much thought into what I will bring to the hospital. With that said I can’t believe it took me so long to actually educate myself about certain things that have become so important to me. My first 6 deliveries I had epidural. My last my 7th was all natural. My nurses didn’t believe I was truly was in labor! I wasn’t even fully admitted and my doctor walked in and they asked him why he was there so soon and he answered bc she delivers fast. I don’t know what happened but they had checked me so many times to the point I said stop touching me. It hurt so bad! Long story short I was 10 centimeters dilated. With all that said and done I was SO proud of myself for going through that naturally. After watching some of your videos and vlogs I know for sure I don’t want my water broke and I don’t want to be checked more than absolutely necessary. I almost fell for the fancy labor gowns and some other things and then I realized… who am I kidding! I don’t need those things. Thanks for all the tips!

Omg I wish I had a nurse like you for my delivery. I love that you’re respectful towards medicated labor but you still are very supportive of unmedicated and knowledgeable about techniques to help. I felt like some of the nurses were annoyed by me going natural but then later I had some really helpful nurses once the shift changed at the hospital. I did have a doula with me to help. But it is even better when the doula doesn’t have to go to battle and everyone is on your side.

I had an unmedicated birth with my first child last week. I was 4-5cm dialated 2 weeks before my due date, then 5-6 the next week, and then when I went in the day before my due date I was 6-7cm. I wasnt feeling like I was in labor at all though. I would just feel contractions sporadically throughout those 2 weeks but they were never painful or consistant or remotely close together. My obgyn constuled with another doc and said even though I was a day before my due date they didnt want me to keep walking around so far along so they broke my water to induce me that day. I figured my labor wouldn't be very long so I opted not to deal with the epidural for what I figured would only be a few hours of pain (I also have scoliosis which i was told could hinder the epidural). I was right and they broke my water at 12:45pm and my daughter was born at 8:30pm. It took about 2 hours for my contractions to really get going so I had a very short labor for it being my first. I did sustain a 4th degree tear though because her hand was next to her face and she was facing forward. But they didnt need any tools to get her out so she was 100% fine. And side note- I'm 8 days out now and my stitches and pain are soooooo much better. The first poo was scary because i just thought of all the stitches and damage and was afraid going would make my healing worse but I just took it easy and it was fine.

my advice to any first time mamma who wants to labor and deliver without any medication, have your support person be firm on your behalf until you always get what you want because i got zero of the things i asked for and stated in my birth plan.
My husband and i took the birthing class at the very hospital i delivered at and i was promised so many things that i got none of and frankly, i’m still upset about it even 14 months later.
I was told i would have the option to have portable monitors so i wouldn’t be tied up to the wall, that didn’t happen, apparently according to the nurse i had “no one else is giving them up at this time” 3 hours after i kept asking for one. I couldn’t walk around the hallways like i was told i could, i couldn’t get in the already filled bath tub (which at home helped me tremendously and was looking forward to continuing my labor in the hospital bath tub), my nurse didn’t offer me any kind of laboring advice or different positions to try nor did she ever mention that i could be unhooked from the stationary wall monitor for a while every hour so i could walk around or get in the tub.
During the birthing class i was told not to bring in my own exercise ball or peanut because they had plenty and would lend me one to use in labor.... then the midwife on call that was present during the pushing time, she made me start pushing early, at 9.5 cm, now i realize it might not seem like a big deal but to me it was, i pushed for 2.5 hours until she threatened with a c section which freaked me out enough to give one final push and finally my son was born. Then she cut the cord after a couple of minutes after i told her twice to wait until it stopped pulsing, she tossed my son almost over my shoulder and i could hardly see him not to mention he couldn’t find my breast. I have no idea who stitched me up or how many i received, no introduction or explanation even though i was fully alert and aware of the entire room (it took 4 months for my body to heal and the stitches to dissolve). I’m sharing my story to inform other moms of what can happen if you’re “nice” but not firm.
And for any mommas out there considering the epidural as their main way of pain management, i ended up taking it after laboring in one spot for 6 hours-on the floor clutching my shoe!-i still experienced some pain toward the end before i started pushing which for me felt like intense menstrual cramping, also when my son came out i felt everything-the ring of fire does not get numbed by the epidural. So just be informed that even a perfectly executed epidural like the one i received will still leave you experiencing some pain, but at least it won’t be in addition to all the laboring pain.
In conclusion, don’t believe everything the staff may tell you, always be clear and firm with exactly what you want because it’s your labor and your birth experience and you deserve to receive what you want! ❤️

Your videos are so extremely informative and empowering. I'm currently 35 weeks pregnant, unplanned pregnancy in the middle of a pandemic after quitting my job a year ago. It has been a rough year and at times very scary, especially when I think about labor & delivery. After every video I feel more prepared not only for the process, but to also be my own advocate. Thank you so much.

I start fertility treatments next month and I’m so excited for this blessing. Watching your videos are teaching me so much, I don’t know many people who have had children in the last few years and I know nobody who has had a natural birth. I really want to have a natural birth but everybody tells me I will change my mind but we’ll see where I go!

I just love this. I’m pregnant with my second. My first was an induction and now that I know so much more of what to expect and watching this gives me hope that this time I can go unmedicated or at least avoiding pitocin this time. I wish my nurses were as hands on and helpful as you are! Thank you!! ❤️

I’m due in 2 weeks and I’m really wanting to have an unmedicated birth. The mantra tip was quite helpful. In my mind I can see myself being very focused during labor, I just hope that’s how I’ll really be when the time comes. Thanks sharing this!!! Your videos have really helped me and been beneficial. I’m going to watch the labor support video with my husband so he has an idea of what to do/expect.

1st baby: 12hrs of labor from 3cm progressing one cm each hour and getting stuck at 9cm for HOURS and then being offered epidural at 9 1/2 cm. Of course as a mom in distress I took it. Pushed for ever. Had an episiotomy done on me.
2nd Baby: 3 1/2hours. From 0cm to 10cm. Low amniotic fluid, had to be induced. Within 2 hours my water broke. It was INTENSE. I tore upwards.
Both experiences were vastly different and painful of course.
I'm pregnant with baby #3 and I'm praying I get something in between.

So helpful and encouraging! I'm a second time mom, but since I had a scheduled induction with an epidural last time, I feel like a first time mama in many ways. I had wanted to avoid an epidural the last time around and my induction was so easy (only cytotec needed with no pitocin) that I know I could have easily done without that epidural with a more positive mindset. I needed someone to tell me that the extra monitors didn't require me to labor on my back in the bed, but I didn't realize this and felt defeated and like I wasn't allowed to move. This attitude led me to giving up on the labor tools I had been practicing through pregnancy and consenting to an epidural that I didn't actually want out of a sense of frustration. It wasn't an entirely negative experience and I had my beautiful baby at the end, but I'm determined to do things differently this time. I've realized that the number one thing I need to do differently is to communicate more, especially with the labor and delivery nurses! This is one major reason I have chosen to hire a doula; I tend to comply with what I assume other people want to do, and I internalized a lot during labor. I know I will likely need someone to speak for me during labor or to remind me to speak for myself.

I'm going to have my first baby in November and this video is helping so much. Everyone is telling me that I won't be able to have an unmedicated birth because it will be too hard but I don't believe that. I'm sure these tips are really going to help. Thank you so much.

An unmedicated birth was the hardest thing I have ever done. The pressure, pain and exhaustion was so incredibly overwhelming but I would (and will) do it again. I felt so strong and thankful. It is 100% achievable.

The first 40 seconds alone was very powerful. I’m pregnant with my third and have wanted a medication free birth without an epidural, and have gotten it at the very last part of my labor (8cm) this time I’m determined since it will be my last. I deliver in two months (end of December, early January) so I’m starting to watch videos early so I can succeed this time.

katrina lomberk I turned 20 a week ago and am due on August 2nd. I’m also trying to educate myself and relieve some anxiety. I’m sure it will be difficult but we got this. Women are amazing and strong so just know that you’ll make it through this even if it’s tough 💪🏼 Also, it doesn’t make you any less of a super hero if you decide to use medication to ease the pain so don’t feel bad if that’s what you decide to do. Wishing you a safe and pleasant delivery! Good luck!

Leah Evans i hear you!! & same to you! i’ve chosen to go all natural because i’m just one of those people that hates taking any type of meds unless they’re absolutely necessary & also don’t want long existing back pains from an epidural that all of my friends got. 😬😬 if i need it, i’ll definitely get it, but i’m trying to stick true to my non medicated plan!

  • @charleenfabe4672
    @charleenfabe4672 5 лет назад

An awesome thing about going unmedicated is the fact that you can feel what your body is doing! You can feel the contractions, which aren’t always fun, but you can tell that they are preparing your body. You can feel when you need to push (most of the time) instead of the doctor telling you. You can feel your baby moving down the birth canal so you know when to push harder and when to ease up a bit. I had a baby that was 8lbs 4oz with a Charlie Brown head and had very minimal tearing that didn’t need stitches. I know many women that need stitches even with a smaller baby because they couldn’t feel after their epidural and just went by what the doctor and nurses were telling them. No one knows your body better than you, so it’s an amazing experience to feel and listen. With that said, sometimes listening to your body means saying you’ve had enough and need some relief, and that’s ok too!

OMG!!!! Thank you sooo much!!! I’m 33 weeks pregnant and this is my first child and I’m saying that I don’t want the epidural because I know that I can do it, I know it will be hard but I'm made for this and none of my family believe me, they say that I’m gonna ask and I’m like where is the support 🙄. But thank you so much for those words!! ❤️

Just curious what a nurses perspective is on precipitous labor, how often do you see it, feelings on the moms that show up and throw everyone into a frenzy. I showed up at 2 pm in the labor and delivery unit and my daughter was on my chest at 2:07 pm. I wish I had had a nurse that prepped me for post delivery shock. I appreciate your positivity! Your body can do it for sure!

Great video. I didn't have an epidural and would go the unmedicated route again. Loved that I could walk and have a shower after I had skin to skin and also definitely agree on going to a birthing class. It was so helpful and informative plus we knew exactly when to go into the hospital. The midwife had so many tips and tricks that I didn't see online.
