From my personal experience. Bring a few things. Literally a few. 1. 1 pair of night clothes or a night gown. I was naked giving birth and wore a night gown the rest of the time after I took my first shower after the birth. 2. Flipflops or tennis shoes and socks. Flip flops if its summer. Tennis shoes if its winter. Socks to keep your feet warm. 3. Going home outfit for you and baby. 4. Toiletries. Bring a travel sized shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. And deodorant. Tooth brush/tooth paste. 5. Snacks and drinks. Any snacks. Anything you and whoever's staying with you likes to eat or drink. Bring enough for 3 days. (The hospital provides meals and drinks, but sometimes you are just thirsty or hungry right in that second.) 6. If you plan to bottle feed for either personal or medical reasons, bring a few cases of the already proportioned infant formula bottles. Just do it. They are on the breast is best thing in hospitals and they DO NOT want to give you any bottles or help you bottle feed in any way. They just dont. Both of my children were born tongue tied and that would have been EXTREMELY helpful to know the first time I went through that. 7. Phones, chargers, and if you like to watch Netflix/whatever bring something to watch it on. 8. Bring your (positive) toughest mindset and attitude. There are nurses and doctors that are great and have a wonderful bedside manner. But there are some that will pressure you to do things that you dont want to do. Dont let them get to you. If it's not nessecary and you dont want to do it, then dont. I wish I had someone to tell me that before I started having babies. Stick to your gut. Stick to your guns. This day is about you and your baby. Period. 9. Bring extra things for your baby that they will not provide you in the hospital. Ex: gas drops, diaper rash cream, baby lotion. A lot of baby products come in travel size. Anything that you think your baby might need, bring it. Because you probably wont need any of it. But if you do, especially if your a first time mom, and you need it, you'll have it. The main priority is to keep that baby comfortable and well taken care of and you and your partner sane. They may look at you like your crazy, but dont let it discourage you. Be prepared so that you don't get blindsided by something that could have been avoided. 10. Bring whatever you want to help you get through. Something comfortable, something to make it feel more like home, something to help YOU. You are about to go through birth and just thinking about it can feel traumatic. One thing that's going to help you feel a little comfy like a robe or pillow or a blanket or your fuzzy house slippers. Just trust me. You're going to feel out of control for a little while and sometimes, you just need something to cling to. And last but not least. Have people present for the birth of your child that are there to support YOU AND YOUR PARTNER. If you choose to have visitors. You want the most important people in your life supporting you, lifting you up, believing in you. If they aren't there to do that, then they dont need to be there. Dont have selfish people stealing precious memories from you, your baby, and the people you love on the most important day of your life. If you dont want someone there, you have every right to tell them not to come.
I think the last point hit me hard .. i will deliver alone .. my husband is not here and the few people i have left i feel really uncomfortable bringing along with me.. i just hope the nurses are really nice
@@goldfishlover147 I'm sorry to hear that. I delivered my second while I was going through a divorce. My sister stayed with me. It was rough. I hope it gets better for you soon, hun. Everything will be ok.
Here’s one thing I wish I had brought for my first birth: baby nail clippers. My daughter was born with very long, scratchy nails (at 41 weeks). I was surprised the hospital didn’t have anything to clip with.
1. Comforts from home (to make you feel at home, calm and comfy) 2. High protein snacks 3. Essentials bag (e.g eye drops, contacts, hair tie, chapstick) 4. Electronics, headphones and chargers (long cable) 5. Nursing bra with closure (not overhead) 6. Clothes for mama (light robe, cardigan, nursing cami) and going home outfit 7. Waterproof sandals 8. Toiletries 9. Going home outfit for baby 10. Props for pictures
@@it3677 its actually helpful if you want to take a screenshot of everything and I noticed (for me at least) the CC for this video isn't working so the deaf mothers watching this video are at a loss.
I just wanted to share I had the best labor nurse ever. I went into preterm labor back in August I was 35 weeks. My nurse's name was Beth, sweetest and most attentive nurse I've ever had. I didn't have my baby at that point thankfully. I went back in at 37 weeks and had to be induced due to preeclampsia, and guess what, I had Beth again! She let me hold onto her and squeeze when I had to get my epidural (contractions were very bad at that point and the anesthesiologist kept messing it up) She helped me so much when it came time to pushing, she had such a calm demeanor that really helped me push through my asthma attacks. I just remember being close to passing out when she put the oxygen on and she looked me in my eyes and let me know I was so close to keep going. Beth was amazing. 😊
Awww congrats to you mamma! And yay for Beth! I have asthma too, so I can only imagine how that feels definitely packing my inhaler for labor! It’s my first one I’m super duper nervous! But luckily my mom is a sweet post partum nurse and so I’m lucky I have her insight as well ❤️
the night before I went into labor me and my fiance were watching this and packing my hospital bag you are such a lifesaver the nurses and everyone that worked there said I was the most prepared
After I had my second all I wanted were these delicious fresh fried donuts that are made locally so my mom got me a half dozen. My nurses asked me if I ate any “real” food when they saw them on my night stand. I mean they weren’t mean but seriously?! I just pushed out a 9lb 5oz baby with absolutely no medication and it was back labor. So don’t judge me on my food selection. It was pure comfort. I didn’t care about the nutrition.
Brittany Wampler wow that’s amazing... I’m due in April and hope to have a natural birth without an epidural. How painful was it? How long were you in labor for?
Brittany Wampler after I had my son, my sister brought donuts as a celebration type thing. I was so exhausted after being in labor for 18 hours and then having an emergency csection that I didn’t even feel like eating but a doctor came in and commented that I was already heavy and had no business eating a donut. Between exhaustion and hormones I turned into a mess, my feelings were so hurt.
I brought my own Always disposable underwear. They were so much more comfortable and you couldn't tell I was even wearing a "diaper" under my clothes. I also brought my own flushable wipes that I just threw away instead of flushing such a large quantity. I loved having my own supplies right there in the bathroom and not having to worry about running out and having to bother my nurses or CNAs for help. Totally not a must have but definitely something I recommend to everyone.
Yes! I lived in my Always underwear after my c-section. I'm so glad I brought them because I absolutely hated the mesh panties! I did line my "diaper" with the long rectangular hospital pad, though, for extra protection.
Make sure not to flush them at home either, they really aren't septic safe (according to every Plummer) and will eventually lead to a terrible super expensive clog! 😳 Yikes!
You literally couldn’t be the more perfect person to have as a labor nurse! I’m so jealous of everyone who is lucky enough to have you. :) I’m due in early January with my first. Love watching you and your sunny personality!
I am 27 weeks right now with my second. I cannot stress enough...bringing always discreet or depends or whatever adult diaper instead of underwear!!! No mess cleaning, no worries, throw it out when you're done with them. Life saver. No laundry lol. Also, little long sleeve gowns for baby. Those make diaper changes so easy, and keep baby warm.
For me the “comfort” items were those 5$ travel sized bottles of: body spray, body wash, and moisturizer from bath and body works. I used the Moonlit path scent, which is light. This made me feel more human after giving birth. A quick shower with the body wash, a spray, a little lotion, deodorant, my own panties, and comfy clothes. No make up, just some chapstick hair tied in a pony tail. 👍🏼
Yes!! I was just thinking Lotion, lotion, some moisturizer, and more lotion! I don't know why the hospital always made my skin so Dry!! Bringing a yummy scented set would be Great! 👍🏾
In Target they had a travel supplies bag with 10 items for like $11. Mini shampoo/conditioner, lotion, deodorant, flushable wipes, toothbrush, toothpaste & other things.
This is honestly really comforting. I am to have my first baby in April and I have never even really been around pregnant women nor have I had talks about anything that comes with it even from those who have already had kids. It's nice to know I don't have to freak out over every little thing which so far has included what I should consider in a hospital bag. I appreciate that you take the time to give information that most first time mom's wouldn't think of because we're so focused on having the baby and not the steps in between getting pregnant and giving birth. "Small" things such as what to pack in the hospital bag tends to get overlooked quite a bit, that or we overthink it and bring the whole house with us. It's nice to know we can keep it simple but necessary and ideal for comfort.
I’m 8 weeks pregnant and although everything is going great with pregnancy right now, we did have a traumatic miscarriage 4 months ago. Your videos are truly helping me keep my mind from wondering this pregnancy! I’m so glad I stumbled upon on your channel- thank you so much!
Shauna Goodridge removable liner pads are useless garbage and I take them out and just use reusable breast pads instead of them because I’m gonna leak anyways, may as well only have one layer in there
Because some of us have big breasts and doesn't want any pads at all. Usually I try to buy bras without pads, but unfortunately that is not always available (i live in Japan and everything is padded here)
When I'm not breastfeeding ofc. For breastfeeding I'm going to use reusable pads. Then I can just change the thickness or remove them when I don't need them anymore🙂
Well honey when you’re a triple D and thirty yo like me you need them. No one in public wants to see my three inch nipples popping out. If you’ve got a cute set of B’s or C’s and you’re 25 the public is far more understanding. But they’re not nice to women like me. It just gives them more incentive to harass me.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! I’m currently 34 weeks and I can not for the life of me figure out what I need. It’s great to hear from someone who is a delivery nurse! ❤️❤️ love your videos!!
Oh my gosh! You are glowing, you are golden! You are everything!!! Your are so sweet and kind. You are so beautiful and I wish you were my labour nurse... If or when I have children.
Thanks to God everything came out perfect I had a healthy baby. He weighed 8lb with 9 oz, he was 21.5 inches long and I got to pul him out myself 😭❤️ I really appreciate the nurses and doctor who where there for me and encouraging me to do the most when I had to push my baby out by the way I was laughing through the whole process because as much as I thought it was going to hurt it didn’t really for me. The first week is rough but we go here and still I’m so blessed 💕👶🏻
Labor aids! Especially if you are planning a non-medicated delivery. This can include music, birthing ball, tennis balls (for back pain), heating pad, water bottle, swimsuit top for laboring tub, affirmation cards, aroma therapy items, etc.
Yes! Thank you! I keep seeing stuff like ipads and extra chargers to watch movies, and I'm thinking.....y'all obviously had an epidural cause there was no way my brain could focus on anything other than relaxing through contractions.
Happy Mother's Day! I've watched this video twice. I'm 37 weeks and 4 days being induced tomorrow afternoon and I'm packing my bag while watching your videos. You've made it so simple where as before I think I would've bought entirely too much. You're videos are amazing and I can only pray I have a great Labor nurse like you tomorrow.
I've been told I'm crazy but when I go to the hospital my husband will literally clean everything. He will lysol wipe the floors, toilet, shower, anything I would touch and then does it again. We learned that I act crazy in labor and once I walked in the room, took 4 steps and got naked and laid on the floor LMAO. I still wear shoes in the shower and socks and slippers on the floor but it's just one of those things. My hubby also bring a small backpack cooler to keep drinks in for me because my midwife allows food/drinks during labor but the hospital doesn't so we gotta sneak it (even tho I only take a bite or two of yogurt or fruit and Sprite but it helps keep my energy when going all natural). I also being gifts for everyone. I order some favs from Etsy like some special necklaces ect, my nurse always becomes my bestfriend because they do 99% of everything and are amazing! I'm due with my 4th boy in a few weeks!!!
I am heading for my induction tonight and wanted to add that the stuff to do while you wait can absolutely include board games, too! (Assuming your room will have a table, that is). Also, books are good for hospitals. If you want to read but struggle with the length of novels, bring a short story collection!
Thank you so much for your videos. I had my baby 4 months ago and had to do it naturally because I laboured at home too long and got to the hospital just in the nick of time. Your video on your own natural birth helped me face my fear and I actually pulled it off and it truly wasn't so bad. So thanks so much for your inspiring videos they really do help ♡
I’m 12 weeks and I’m 17 and these videos are so much help considering I don’t have anyone to tell me anything or to help me at all besides my drs. I love these videos and I hope you continue to make more to help all of us new moms young and old!
Things I wish I had packed in my hospital bag: -my own nightgown/hospital gown for laboring. Yes, the hospital provides one and yes, it will get dirty, but hospital gowns are so uncomfortable to me with having to tie them closed. I wish I had been able to wear something that didn't have to be tied closed at the back. -If I had known the hospital was going to have me pump, I also would have brought a Medela pumping bra. It is not fun to try to hold the flanges yourself while pumping! - This one is silly, but if you have a grabber thing to pick things up off the ground when you can't reach them you might want to bring it, especially if you have a C-section and it's hard to bend down. -A breastfeeding pillow would also be helpful, and if you have a C-section the Boppy might be uncomfortable for a few weeks, so keep that in mind. -A Velcro swaddle because it can be difficult to swaddle with blankets
When u brought ur babe out 🥺😍 He is ADORABLE that smile! 30 weeks, thank u I want to start getting my bag ready! I’ve been having some labor dreams and it’ll ease my anxiousness
I’m 29 weeks (tomorrow) and I have a toddler. I also work full time and single mom so I’m packing early. I over packed with my first and this video is a LIFE SAVER!!!! I’m packing as I’m watching!
Super helpful. I'm a second time mom so I feel a lot more prepared packing the bag this time but I still forgot a lot of this stuff! Those Auden bras are the absolute best, the perfect combo of comfortable and supportive.
I am 21 weeks tomorrow and this is super helpful! Is it weird that I want to pack the bag already?! I had a dream the other day I went into labor with nothing!!😳
I say start packing it now if it will make you feel better 😊 I was having similar dreams and finally packed my bag at 37 weeks. I felt much better after getting that done.
23 weeks and im seriously contemplating packing my bag now... hubby says i have to wait until christmas (im due in Jan) but i cant imagine waiting that long lol
I started watching your channel when I first found out I was pregnant on February, now I’m 36 weeks and expecting to pop very soon. Your videos encourage me so much and helped me through my down days. ❤️
31 weeks with twins and need to start getting my bag together. I’m plant based, so having snacks on hand is a brilliant idea. Thanks so much for this. Your son is soooo cute too!
In my 40s, and not having a child but popped over to look at your videos after Emily Noel mentioned you and I am so pleased with both of you. It’s fantastic to hear women/mothers telling expectant moms that they need to be flexible, because you do not know what direction the birth might take. (I was a 911 dispatcher for years and know that’s right. I’m the one that that would instruct you to tie a shoestring around the umbilical cord because you’ve just McGyvered it during your rapid 3rd delivery). In the mid - late 1980s and 90s we saw an explosion of books for expectant mothers that were absurd and seemed to be written by highly anxious first time moms (though they sometimes were not). Write out an extensive birthing plan, follow it to the letter, beat yourself up if you could not, only eat quinoa, kale chips and tofu (I like all, but come on)... The breast feeding only hysteria has been terrifying enough. I think most women would rather breast feed if they can. This is perfectly natural, works out for many, but is not a travesty if it doesn’t. Over the last 3 decades there has been an explosion of stories about mothers almost dying because some hospitals wouldn’t give them needed meds, due to complications, because you can not breast feed while taking them OR the mother refused because it went against her birth plan. This was not the case in 1970s, when formula was presented a great option for babies not getting enough nutrition (there has been some increase in babies starving due to breast feeding only initiatives), moms having issues supplying milk (again, it happens sometimes and you have to be flexible) or working moms with a lot on their plate. To me the most important thing is mom being alive and baby being able to eat/not starving. The BFO initiative resulted in women buying breast milk from Cambodia from impoverished women who have children with an incredibly high rate of malnutrition because some boob marketed the breast milk as pure due to a diet high in fish and rice. My second cousin was just in the hospital for a blood clot in her lungs soon after delivery and doctors were only willing to try one med that she could breast feed on. Thankfully it worked. What if it wouldn’t have? More realistic and reasonable conversations have been need.
I've had two babies, and I've never thought about how pants should be light and stretchy because we never know if we'll end up having a c-section. Great insight! Thank you so much for this wonderful video, learning something new every day!
Great refresher for me as I start to get ready for my second delivery. I'd love to hear your thoughts on coached vs instinctive pushing. I never knew it was a thing until doing some research during this second pregnancy and I would love to hear an expert's opinion!
Holy moly I had that Esmeralda pillow, actually the entire bed set when I was six! So cute lol. Thank you for the tips! First pregnancy here, clueless about what to pack in my hospital bag lol.
Thank you so much for this . I’m 33 weeks with my first and seriously need to get things together ! I also loved 10 things your labour nurse wants you to know , this definitely helps with anxiety
What I did and I highly reccomend: #1 I have major medical concerns (heart issues) I made a quick and specific list of my issues the risks and triggers and printed it to set by the nurses computer in l&d. This helped me tremendously! Yes all that stuff is on the computer yes they read it but its clinical and not as direct sometimes (my chart didn't say that if you sit me up after laying down and do it too fast I'll faint but my paper did) When it was time to push the nurse came in said "let's sit you up" saw the note and got another nurse in to help incase something happened. And it did. My bp tanked and they already had everything right there in the room because she was reminded. Normally I would have done that myself but I was not in that headspace. I packed a bag specific for l&d this should be really simple something that one person can carry in one go. In this bag I had a water bottle, charger, small bluetooth speaker, paper and pencil (I draw/write a lot) and stress ball (my husband rolled it over my back to help it felt SO GOOD) I only brought my l&d bag into the hospital until the baby was born. After we got moved to recovery I had a duffel with hubby's clothes/ toiletries, my clothes (nursing bra, 1 gown, 1 pj set, robe, a set of clothes to go home and poise underwear (just in case I didn't like the hospital stuff), house shoes and socks) mine and my husband's pillows, my favorite blanket, and two sleepers for the baby and dress for pictures for the baby. If you think you need it but not sure you will it's okay to pack it and leave it in the car. You DEFINITELY don't want too much especially at one time because you really want your focus to be on yourself, your baby and celebrating and enjoying your new family. The hospital I went to provided diapers, wipes, clothes for the baby, hat for the baby, blankets, underwear and pads for me.
Here in Norway it's recommended to have a hospital bag packed at all times. Just to grab and go. So this is so good to know for everyone. I' ve got my own hospital bag. Just need to put in my hairbrush, charger, headphone and cell phone. By the way. I will recommend to bring a joga mat. Once I've got a room with oil on the floor. The oil was gone but the floor was so slippery. The joga mat saved my life. Hugs from Norway.
Thanks for this! We had our anatomy scan yesterday at 18 weeks and they gave us a birthing plan checklist. Feels much more real now! Can’t wait to pack my bag! Plus your little guy looks just like you-he’s so cute!
I am 11 weeks pregnant with my first baby, so I am reasonably nervous and watching every video alive Lol! Your videos are SO helpful and realistic! My background is all critical care and OB is so foreign I am about to binge watch everything you’ve got sister!
For my son 10 years ago I had no hospital bag. I was 19, husband was deployed. Mother never told me I needed a bag 😄. It was a mess. Now with my daughter due December im prepping for everything lol thank you for this video!
Yes! My first, I didnt pack any clothes other than my going home outfit, but, my second, I did. I was way more comfortable. I had the chunky baby with my first. He barely fit into his outfit. Always pack both sizes. I did with my second and it made things way easier.
Niki Kelly my baby didn’t fit into his newborn clothes at all, my grandpa ended up having an employee also at the hospital with his wife having a babyboy and he didn’t have any clothes for the baby so I gave it to him to dress his baby to go home! Thank God I packed both sizes as well!
@@dominiqueeeee6179, I saved them because I knew we were going to have another baby and we did 17 months later. She was smaller than her brother and was able to wear all of them.
This is great. I and 34 and 1/2 weeks with my 5th but it's always good to double-check that I haven't forgotten something. What I do is I keep a cell phone charger and a pair of slippers socks in my purse at all times. my reasoning for this is because these are the two things that you really need. You need your cell phone charger so you can contact people and it's like you said you don't want to walk around Barefoot. But when you first go up to labor and delivery unless your water has broken or you are scheduled for an induction you don't know for sure that they are going to admit you. You may be in labor but you might not be progressing fast enough so you don't want to bring everything in with you only to be sent home 45 minutes later.
I'm getting induced on Monday (Sept 30)! We've had our stuff packed for awhile now but I'm so glad I watched this because some of these things we definitely didnt think of. 😁
Thank you for this video. My hospital bag is almost all packed! I have a list sitting on top of it with last minute things to grab. I'm a week and a day away from my induction date!
I spent a week in the hospital and packed a ton of stuff. I regretted packing all the stuff! I literally only needed go home outfits, chapstick, hair tie, socks, shoes, car seat, and cell phone with charger. Things I regret not packing is my own breast pump, nipple cream, and bottles.
I have twin 9 year old boys and this video was still so beyond helpful. When I had my twins there were none of these videos online and I have forgotten that whole experience except for the pain and the aftermath while using the bathroom. Thank you for this advice, much love to you and yours!!
Literally packing my bag today! 3rd time around but I still bring the kitchen sink 😆 trying to thin it out but here in Ireland they literally give you nothing except meds and (pretty awful) dinner. You read my mind 👍🏻😘
im an american that moved to ireland, and is having my first baby here, and im panicking on what to pack, since every list i find is for american hospitals, any tips from an experienced irish mama?
Sophie Eldridge bring everything 😂 in a ‘labour bag’: nightdress with button top for birthing, any snacks and hygiene things u might need in labour, I bring a big pair of incontinence pants (tena) as they hold more than mesh pants and a pad and are way more comfortable, for baby a hat, bodysuit, sleepsuit and nappy. Other than that, for baby: a pack of size 1 nappies, water wipes, Vaseline (apply before their first poop for easy cleaning) (some people don’t like the mineral oil, I’m sure there are alternatives), cellular blanket, a swaddle blanket, muslin squares for burp cloths, cotton wool pads for cleaning baby with water. I take 3 more bodysuits and sleepsuits and hats. For me, a dark colored towel for hair & body, all the toiletries/face products/hair/makeup that you like. Try and get miniature sizes. A pack of the tena pants. 2 pairs of loose dark pjs that you can nurse in (if you’re nursing) A plastic bag for soiled clothes. Hairdryer, straighteners, hairbrush, water bottle (if you are nursing you will drink a tonne and don’t have to go looking for water as often), slides (sandals) for the shower, slippers, light robe, sweets (get me thru the night), a pacifier (if you think you will use it), lansinoh nipple cream, you might not need breast pads as milk doesn’t really come in til day 3-4. Arnica tablets. A simple trick - your lady bits will BURN when you pee. Bend yourself as far forward as you can and squat over the toilet. Literally touch the ground. The pee will flow straight out and not touch your burny bits 😬. Bring stool softeners and take them to avoid the horror of a painful bowel movement. I think that’s all that’s in my case! Good luck with your delivery! 👍🏻😘
@@lorna1222 i was rereading your comment and had a couple questions if thats okay? You said a nightdress for birthing, will they not just give you a hospital gown? i was planning on bringing a nightdress for after but not during. will they give you a perri bottle for after or will i have to pack my own? and is dermaplast a thing in ireland, would the nurses look at me weird or tell me i couldnt use it if i bought my own online?
Sophie Eldridge they would give you a hospital gown but they are completely open at the back which is not great if you are doing anything except lying on your back! You could always double up and wear one backwards but I got a cheap nightshirt in dunnes in dark grey which will cover all the necessary bases. No, they don’t give peri bottles. I think there was a bidet shower head in the bathrooms which will do the same thing. I got peri bottles on amazon v cheap. Dermaplast isn’t available in Ireland and you can’t ship aerosols from the states. My SIL brought it to me from NYC so someone might be able to bring it to you? I just googled it - seems you can buy it now but it’s megabucks. I have an unused can I can send u but the use by date is 2017 🤔
I loved this list. I love how you specifically mentioned things that make the person feel normal. Also, I got a Target box with fancy toiletry samples for my hospital stay. It was $5-7 and had shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant, and a few other things. :-)
I'm 33 weeks so love that you posted this because I've been stressed about what k need to bring, especially clothes. and definitely would love a "what not to bring" video!
I’m 35 weeks pregnant and absolutely panicked about my hospital bag but this video helped a lot !! Can you do a video about anxiety and nerves about giving birth ? I’ve always been terrified of it and I’m scared I’ll pass out when the time comes
TheWitchingHour Would love to see a video on that as well. I’m 31 weeks and I’m nervous too! Good luck mama. Bridget Teyler on YT has a video about fears in labor that I found kind of helpful
I was in the same boat 7 weeks ago! My biggest advice is talk to your nurse. Don't be afraid to ask whatever questions pop into your head. Know that it's probably not going to be as bad as you're likely thinking right now! Y'all got this ❤️
I’m 36 weeks and have fears and anxiety, too. But I just remind myself that millions, if not billions, of women have given birth over the course of time and if they’ve been able to do it, then I can too. 😉 We got this, girl!
I am almost 33 weeks pregnant and I'm extremely nervous about giving birth as well! I just pray and pray all the time! These videos surely do help me though! So much positivity!
Best "packing for hospital" I've seen! Thank you! I've watched your videos for so long and now we are finally expecting in Spring. This is going to help me so much! (I've been known to over-pack 🙈)
When I was expecting my first I was reading about all kinds of labor aids and I saw something about tennis balls for back counterpressure. My Lamaze instructor said "don't bother, they never get used" so I didn't bring them. During labor I had really bad back labor so I would've LOVED having those tennis balls. With my 2nd I had a doula so she was able to provide counterpressure. With my 3rd I wasn't planning on having a doula "just for back pressure" so I packed the tennis balls and they were SO helpful-so listen to your instincts. I would also recommend a handheld fan to help combat the transition hot-flashes. If you are planning on listening to music/relaxation/affirmations, I found that having a separate MP3 player was great. They have a pretty long battery life and you won't be distracted by people Facebook messaging you "R U in Labor????" or "Let me know how you're doing" or "how come you aren't responding!!!???" It can also clip on to your gown/sheet or wherever you want. Then if it dies you can have your favorite tracks on your phone as backup.
Jessica Butler I can tell you it really isn't as dramatic and terrible as people say or think it is , and all the stuff to prepare at home like diy's people suggest, if your in the US usually the hospital will provide that for you to take home and also one thing no one ever mentioned to me is that you might feel itchy down there after and it's normal but you are also more susceptible to infections after like I was itchy but it just didn't seem right and the my OB nurse was like it's Normal but I had a yeast infection 😕 Also know the symptoms of post partum depression and call your OB doctor immediately and it can happen at any time after having your baby it may not be immediately after and can be some months down the road
I just had my first baby 3 weeks ago. My best advice to you is don’t panic and simply GO WITH THE FLOW OF THINGS! Don’t go into labor with high expectations because you never really know what might happen. Also keeping a positive mind is the best thing for a calm labor.. and don’t hesitate to get an epidural I got mine when I realized my legs wouldn’t stop shaking with every contraction and honestly it was the best thing I could’ve done.. DO SQUATS and FROGS POSE (in bed) The deeper the squat the better, and rock side to side while doing them. I had the fastest labor and I thank these stretches because I did not walk at all during my pregnancy. And don’t over pack your bag. I took one bag with what I thought I’d need and I literally only used my going home outfit and the baby’s outfit. But do pack snacks! Don’t overthink it to much you’ll do great!!! Good luck and congratulations!! 🎊🍾🎉
Your videos really gave me a lot of insight. It's just like a mom that gives advice to her kid when pregnant. My mom just left and lost contact with her for months now. I really don't have any ideawhat to do because I am already 6 months pregnant. Your videos gives me sense of comfort
Oh my goodness I can’t believe someone else loves hunchback of Norte Dame! It’s one of my favorites and so underrated! I’m 19 weeks pregnant and have been watching the movie weekly because the music is amazing and it distracts me from nausea and discomfort 😍
About to have my fifth son, currently about 37 weeks pregnant. No bag packed. I'm probably just gonna grab some extra clothes on the way out the door, and some things for the baby. Your first, you tend to be super hyped n eager to pack....by the fifth it's just a ehhh probably won't need it kinda ordeal. Lol
Love this, but I've got to say your clothing recommendations for "summer or winter" really wouldn't work in Canada! I had my daughter when it was -38° and heavy snow. Even just to the car I wasn't going to wear a maxi dress and sandals! 😂
I didn’t even wear a bra. I was in a hospital gown from the time I checked in until the day before we left (the only day we had visitors). I had a c-section but I think either way I wouldn’t have cared lol.
This was awesome. Totally didn't think of getting a long charger to bring, but free outlets are usually hard to come by in a hospital room now that I think about it!
My favorite thing after having my daughter while still in the hospital was having my lavender body soap. It made me feel refreshed and back in my own body
Just a tip, if my patient has forgotten her toiletries (or ends up admitted unexpectedly), I recommend she use the baby wash (hospital provided). I think it does a better job cleaning than the crap they stock for adults, and it smells better. When I worked IMC, I bought my own lavender baby wash and lotion for nightly baths. It was so much better at getting that ICU funk off, but really any funk in general.
I recommend going online to your hospital's website and looking up their "what to bring to hospital" list. My hospital had a short list of everything that I will need to bring for both me and baby and it specifically says that none of these things will be provided by the hospital. I'm giving birth in Ontario so we don't get a lot of freebies, except the birth itself.
Thank you! This was super helpful. I had my first child almost 9 years ago and I didn’t even think to bring snacks, or my own blanket etc I was 18 at the time and I didn’t even think bringing snacks was okay lol, I remember getting hungry at night and all they couldn’t do much for me in the middle of the night.
(The hospital provides meals and drinks, but sometimes you are just thirsty or hungry right in that second.)
Great list!
Great, thanx so much! 🙌🙌
1. Comforts from home (to make you feel at home, calm and comfy)
2. High protein snacks
3. Essentials bag (e.g eye drops, contacts, hair tie, chapstick)
4. Electronics, headphones and chargers (long cable)
5. Nursing bra with closure (not overhead)
6. Clothes for mama (light robe, cardigan, nursing cami) and going home outfit
7. Waterproof sandals
8. Toiletries
9. Going home outfit for baby
10. Props for pictures
what is the point of this comment? besides demonstrating your lack of a life
It’s just a summary for people who don’t want to watch the whole video . What’s your problem
Thank you for this list.
@@it3677 its actually helpful if you want to take a screenshot of everything and I noticed (for me at least) the CC for this video isn't working so the deaf mothers watching this video are at a loss.
Thanks for condensing it. I appreciate it 😊
You remind me of Drew Barrymore in “50 First Dates”. 👍🏼
OMG I was just thinking DREW BARRYMORE lol
Lol I was thinking that also!
Coz she lisps.
She looks so much like Drew all the time to me
Yes!!!!!
Yay Nurse Beth!
Awww congrats to you mamma! And yay for Beth! I have asthma too, so I can only imagine how that feels definitely packing my inhaler for labor! It’s my first one I’m super duper nervous! But luckily my mom is a sweet post partum nurse and so I’m lucky I have her insight as well ❤️
Bring something that makes you feel at home... my dog? 😂
I thought the same thing 😂
Lol right? 😂
First thing I thought of 😂😂
That was my first thought too. My dog is my rock
Fr im literally considering asking that dumb question. “Can I bring my 5lb dog who hates almost everyone that gets close to me as of rn?”😂
the night before I went into labor me and my fiance were watching this and packing my hospital bag you are such a lifesaver the nurses and everyone that worked there said I was the most prepared
That's crazy good timing! Glad you had what you needed to welcome your little one into the world!
I just found out I’m pregnant today, I’ve been watching you for a while so now all the things you talk about will be put to use!
How exciting! Congrats!
Congratulations! Enjoy your pregnancy!
CONGRATULATIONS!
Congratulations! May you have all the pregnancy glow and always happy and healthy
Congratulations!!!
You earned that fried donut!! 🍩
You go mama! You 100% earned those donuts.
9lb 5 oz without medication. You’re stronger then I am for sure. Eat whatever you want after this.
For sure! And even if you don’t use in the hospital, they would be great for home!
Yes! I lived in my Always underwear after my c-section. I'm so glad I brought them because I absolutely hated the mesh panties! I did line my "diaper" with the long rectangular hospital pad, though, for extra protection.
I used those when I got home I wasn't allow to use them in the hospital and they were much easier and more comfortable
Make sure not to flush them at home either, they really aren't septic safe (according to every Plummer) and will eventually lead to a terrible super expensive clog! 😳 Yikes!
@@Legal.Knievel WOW thanks for the tip
You literally couldn’t be the more perfect person to have as a labor nurse! I’m so jealous of everyone who is lucky enough to have you. :) I’m due in early January with my first. Love watching you and your sunny personality!
Can you please do a “bring/don’t bring” during this covid thing, I’m due any day now and so nervous!
Yes please! Same here sister! 6 days away!!!
YES!!!
Upvoting this!!! Due in march, i am nervous 😬
Good idea !!!!
Please!!
Moonlight path is my happy scent too. Thanks for the suggestion!
Yeah that Esmeralda pillow is EVERYTHING 💜
It’s literally the best!
OMG! That pillow brings back so many childhood memories!
The bra suggestion. THANK YOU. who are these crazy people who think we want removable pads in our bras?!
Congrats almost there! Just turned 35 weeks with 2nd baby but want to make sure I take something that I didn't the last time ^.^
I’m 34 weeks too! I’m due nov 6th.
I can't explain the nostalgia of seeing your Esmerelda pillowcase, lolol. Love you so much! SO proud!!!
Girl, I thought of you when a grabbed it!
@@Nurse_zabe aghhh the best!!! 😭
Oh my gosh! You are glowing, you are golden! You are everything!!! Your are so sweet and kind. You are so beautiful and I wish you were my labour nurse... If or when I have children.
Same.
she really is!
Same what an amazing lady!
Why do I love this lady...I think it’s bc she’s so comforting!
I’m due in four days!!! So exited and thank you for the video I hate to carry stuff so I only packed the essentials. I can’t wait to meet my baby 👶🏻
Monica Espino good luck!!!!!
Goodluck!!
I hope you’ve met your baby now ❤️❤️
Good luck and I hope congrats are in order !! 🙏
Yes! I may make a separate video on this 😊
This depends on the hospital. My hospital didn't allow heating pads or anything scented.
How does tennis balls use for back pain?
Many hospitals won’t allow aroma therapy items because it’s a liability risk for those who may have allergies or asthma.
Yes! Thank you! I keep seeing stuff like ipads and extra chargers to watch movies, and I'm thinking.....y'all obviously had an epidural cause there was no way my brain could focus on anything other than relaxing through contractions.
Omg, the sweetest face at the end! Currently 16 weeks with our second set of twins, and just love watching your videos! Thank you!
Almost 37 weeks and hardcore procrastinating on the hospital bag 😬 this video was a HUGE help! Hitting up target tomorrow:)
JayeAnna Cordle I could probably live in target!
JayeAnna Cordle that would stress me out! I’m 20 weeks now and planning to have my bag ready by 35 weeks.
Zabey Baby 2015 I’m pretty sure I spend enough money there that it’s like a second mortgage 😂
Audrey Nguyen I’m not much of a planner lol I got my boobs, a car seat and clothes for the baby and diapers 👍 we good lol
I love the feeling of putting on makeup and the shower right after birth it's like the besttttt thingggggg everrrrrrrr
Agreed!! Finally feeling human again!
@@Nurse_zabe Are you able to shower after either type of birth? Just trying to be prepared if I have a c-section.
I’m 12 weeks and I’m 17 and these videos are so much help considering I don’t have anyone to tell me anything or to help me at all besides my drs. I love these videos and I hope you continue to make more to help all of us new moms young and old!
Things I wish I had packed in my hospital bag:
-my own nightgown/hospital gown for laboring.
This one is silly, but if you have a grabber thing to pick things up off the ground when you can't reach them you might want to bring it, especially if you have a C-section and it's hard to bend down.
@vivian li dont feel bad! My daughter is 18 weeks and already has her bag practically done! Lol shes due the end of February.
My mom had a dream I was the baby pig in Alice in wonderland, it worried her. All went great. Thanks to God.
However I love Alice in wonderland.
Yes! The vegan/vegetarian/gluten free trays are kind of pathetic 😩
Thank you! I'm 33 weeks and 4 with my first and I'm planning on getting my hospital bag together. I didn't think about snacks!!
I'm 33 weeks and 6 days today! What day are you due? 💕
“A real happy raccoon” lmao. 😭 omg you’re the best.
I’m 31 weeks in a couple days and even though I have a list of what I want to bring, it’s always refreshing to hear from a nurse! Thank you ☺️☺️
Thank you so much for this . I’m 33 weeks with my first and seriously need to get things together ! I also loved 10 things your labour nurse wants you to know , this definitely helps with anxiety
What I did and I highly reccomend:
#1 I have major medical concerns (heart issues) I made a quick and specific list of my issues the risks and triggers and printed it to set by the nurses computer in l&d.
In this bag I had a water bottle, charger, small bluetooth speaker, paper and pencil (I draw/write a lot) and stress ball (my husband rolled it over my back to help it felt SO GOOD)
I only brought my l&d bag into the hospital until the baby was born.
Interesting! That’s a great idea!
Why was there oil?
It must be a Yoga mat, I guess? :)
I'm 32 weeks pregnant and found this super helpful! Especially the nursing bras recommendations! Thank you!
37 weeks and 5 days! This helped out a ton thank you ❤️🙏🏼
I’m 37 and 4! Congrats. So exciting
For my son 10 years ago I had no hospital bag. I was 19, husband was deployed. Mother never told me I needed a bag 😄. It was a mess. Now with my daughter due December im prepping for everything lol thank you for this video!
I had this same Esmerelda pillowcase. Great taste, what a blast from the past. xD
What perfect timing! I'm 5 days overdue and needed this! 😍
Jennifer Hasting I feel ya! I’m 4 days overdue, let’s be friends haha!!
Waiting when you’re overdue is so tough, but you’ve got this! 💗💪🏼
10 days over for me 😭 Getting induced in 2 days but it's reassuring to know I haven't packed loads of unnecessary stuff!
With my first i went 7 days OD. My second i went 8 friggin days!
Short_S_ Korean same!!! Induction Monday and so glad this popped up!
Short_S_ Korean God luck both of you 🙏🏻 ❤️ my due date is 10/20 waiting too. 👍
Good luck tomorrow, ladies!!
That pillow case is EVERYTHING! I had an esmeralda doll that was my favorite thing for years! 💜💛💚
Thank you for this video. My hospital bag is almost all packed! I have a list sitting on top of it with last minute things to grab. I'm a week and a day away from my induction date!
My first pregnancy❤❤ and I can honestly say you are amazing !!! Watching your videos are a blessing.
What do you mean by bringing bottles? Empty bottles or with formula? Does the hospital provide formula if we’re not ready for breastfeeding?
I have twin 9 year old boys and this video was still so beyond helpful. When I had my twins there were none of these videos online and I have forgotten that whole experience except for the pain and the aftermath while using the bathroom. Thank you for this advice, much love to you and yours!!
Still got 10 weeks to go. But you can definitely tell that this is my 3rd time heading to L&D. Everything you listed is in my hospital bag. 😅
@@lorna1222 youre amazing! thank you so much!!!!
Sample toiletries are perfect!
I'm 33 weeks so love that you posted this because I've been stressed about what k need to bring, especially clothes. and definitely would love a "what not to bring" video!
Katie VH she has one already! :)
@@nikilovesbeauty ha I know I already watched it!
Y'all got this ❤️
You'll be fine my sister didn't even pack a hospital bag and she was just fine 😊
This video couldn't have come at a more perfect time! Im 37 weeks and STILL havent packed my bag! Thank you, this helps so much! ❤
Girl, I packed my bag when I was in labor. 😂🤦🏼♀️ You’ve got time!
Meira Ihm they really ask you how come you’re not responding? Like you’re in labor what do they expect lol. That’s so silly
can you do a teen pregnancy kinda helpful tips bc im 18 & about to have a baby , im scared out my mind of postpartum and stuff
Jessica Butler I can tell you it really isn't as dramatic and terrible as people say or think it is , and all the stuff to prepare at home like diy's people suggest, if your in the US usually the hospital will provide that for you to take home and also one thing no one ever mentioned to me is that you might feel itchy down there after and it's normal but you are also more susceptible to infections after like I was itchy but it just didn't seem right and the my OB nurse was like it's Normal but I had a yeast infection 😕
Also know the symptoms of post partum depression and call your OB doctor immediately and it can happen at any time after having your baby it may not be immediately after and can be some months down the road
Look up "padcycles" and MAKE SOME! They are amazing to have waiting in your freezer after you get home from the hospital!!!!!!!!
What you really need for vaginal birth postpartum are pads, tucks, dermoplast postpartum.
Congrats
Your videos really gave me a lot of insight. It's just like a mom that gives advice to her kid when pregnant. My mom just left and lost contact with her for months now. I really don't have any ideawhat to do because I am already 6 months pregnant. Your videos gives me sense of comfort
I love your videos! They’re so practical and just real. And your son is adorable. I would love to see a “What not to pack video” if you could do that.
I’ll try to film it tomorrow!
Oh my goodness I can’t believe someone else loves hunchback of Norte Dame! It’s one of my favorites and so underrated! I’m 19 weeks pregnant and have been watching the movie weekly because the music is amazing and it distracts me from nausea and discomfort 😍
Just found out I’m pregnant and I’m doing a marathon of your videos 💕 thank you so much for creating such thoughtful content for us
I'm 20 weeks and 2 days this youre videos are the most helpful videos I've seen thus far !!
This was the best "packing the hospital bag" I've seen on RUclips.
Agreed!!!
Absolutely, very brief.
I aspire to be like you, you have such a kind spirit. One of the only people I’ll watch the ads for. Continue to be yourself.
Lol
Lol me with my fifth. Pregnant with my sixth now. “Eh im sure it’ll be fine” lol lol
About to have my second and currently have this mentality 😂 more excited to take all the free stuff home than to pack my bag lol
Haha I turn 39 weeks tomorrow with 3rd and just put clothes in a bag last night lol.
Love this, but I've got to say your clothing recommendations for "summer or winter" really wouldn't work in Canada! I had my daughter when it was -38° and heavy snow. Even just to the car I wasn't going to wear a maxi dress and sandals! 😂
I was gonna say the same thing - I forget that some people live where it is still "warm" in the winter and not 5 feet of snow haha
Yeahp, my second daughter was born in November and I live in the prairies 😅 It wasn't quite as pleasant as the spring birth with my first daughter.
I love it when you show your babies. They are so cute! & thanks for the advice.
There’s always one person I watch on RUclips with my pregnancies... and you are the one for baby #3❣️ your content is amazing, thank you ☺️
I didn’t even wear a bra. I was in a hospital gown from the time I checked in until the day before we left (the only day we had visitors). I had a c-section but I think either way I wouldn’t have cared lol.
Thanks a million tines over... In invaluable resource. I am 35 weeks and will pack hospital bag next week so this was VERY helpful!!
Im bringing nothing but leaving with everything. Mwahahahahahah! Lol
Kyra Cruz I definitely feel you lol I’m packing light so I have room to leave with some extras 🤣🤣🤣
Kyra Cruz lucky you most hospitals don't provide much
I'm taking as many mesh underwear pad things as possible from the hospital
Best comment lol
Kyra Cruz 😂
I'm a first time young mother and I am obsessed with your channel! Thank you so much! You are so informative, fun, and just comforting to watch ❤
I need to remember to rewatch this video in a couple of months. Gosh, it's getting closer!!
It flies by!
Hunchback of Notre dame is One of my favorite movies and soundtrack :)
Omg I just had a flashback to childhood, I had the same pillowcase!!!!! 😭😭😭
I had the Jasmine sheet set! I wish I still had it!
This was awesome. Totally didn't think of getting a long charger to bring, but free outlets are usually hard to come by in a hospital room now that I think about it!
26 weeks this week and already kinda planning mine out . Im due new years day and with my first I was only in labor for 12 hours .
Omg esmeralda ❤️
Bahaha, it was the only non-white pillowcase I could find in the house 😂
My favorite thing after having my daughter while still in the hospital was having my lavender body soap. It made me feel refreshed and back in my own body
Yes girl, reuse that Glossier bag!
Morgan Kearney you know it!
Lol I thought the exact same thing when I saw her pull it out, I have about 6 of them and they’re all used for something!
AdoraBell that’s a great idea!!
Thank you for sharing, a great reminder for moms even on the third baby we forget things. Live your optimism and energy ☺️
Emily Noel recommend your vid. I immediately subbed. I'm 9 weeks pregnant and I'm such an over thinker. This is such a helpful vid!
