@@madisynmiller1538 I suspect that... which is why I'm only watching videos, not actually trying to get one. They're cute until your up for 24 hours because baby felt like being held the entire night (according to my mom... I was that baby)
Truth! If you're watching this video, you most likely have kids or are expecting. Things like that are every day life. If you're not used to it yet, you will be. Haha!
@@Nurse_zabe *2:25* Just came to say *awww his little face!* ❤😍😂❤So beautiful! I remember when my daughter started loving her own face, facetiming relatives became so much more enjoyable.. then she got bored & left 🤣 *thanks for the memories* ☺💝
All of this depends on insurance and if a patient is self pay. “The hospital provides” also means patient pays. Being required to get itemized statements has taught me so much about what I should bring and what I can refuse so that I’m not overcharged. Also even in the US not all hospitals have resources to provide even things like diapers. I’ve been in a hospital that only had a sample pack and after that the patient needed to have diapers and wipes. It’s a good idea to talk with the billing department before check in.
Willow Lane good point! For things like medications, there is definitely a charge that can be controlled by not taking the medications. For diapers and pads and stuff I’m not sure how you could refuse and not be charged since there is no where that I can say patient declined pads and mesh panties. We just put in a “vaginal delivery fee” into the computer and I think it includes those things. Ugh, insurance is so frustrating!
@@cynditran2036 This right here. $4 A PILL for it? Sorry, that’s ridiculous. So if the only way I can avoid that exorbitant charge is by not taking the medication, but I’m not allowed to take my own, what I’m getting out of this is that my options are 1) way overpay for a simple pain-killer, or 2) be in pain for 2 days until I get discharged. Not great options. :(
I remember when I had my 3rd baby. There was this gal who had a baby girl who was in recovery that couldn't afford to stay in the hospital past the recovery time. She looked so terrible and so much in pain, I asked the nurse if the gal could have my bed for a few hours(??) I felt FINE....and that nurse gave me the NASTIEST look...WOW!!! They wouldn't let me give the gal my (it was a private room as well) room...which I thought was wrong. I didn't understand WHY they wouldn't allow that.....other than maybe insurance??? The funny thing was that her baby girl was so cute! The minute she was laid in that clear cradle the nurses all remarked on how the baby lifted up both of her arms and just left them there on each side of her head!! So cute....
Listening to your talk on people bringing essential oils to the hospital makes me think of people's lack of consideration for others. Smells of oils makes me sick with headaches for hours on ends, I can imagine being a nurse and having to assist someone under those conditions.
Karen Amaya I’m a RN & this has kind of become an issue even on other floors of the hospital! We’ve started not allowing diffusers at all because of all the potential effects for those around with sensitivities. I personally love EO’s but it’s definitely not okay in a hospital setting to have them diffusing, nor do I think it should be in any public setting honestly. There are definitely people that are just completely lacking consideration for others around them by diffusing but I’ve also come to find that a lot of patients truly had no idea that others could have allergies/sensitivities to EO’s. They’re definitely victims of EO’s being marketed as completely harmless/“natural”
An alternative to consider (instead of a diffuser which forces everyone around into your essential oils), is a rollerball to either sniff as needed or to apply on yourself (I have two rollerballs from Saje that I enjoy). Bringing a diffuser to a public space is so inconsiderate! Especially to staff members that may be sensitive (medical personnel are humans too) - you don't want to trigger your labor nurse's migraines!
If I chose to bring oils to help the process and make me feel more comfortable in my situation I will:) my main concern isnt going to be other people while having a child!
@@isntshelovely5823 The oils might make the people assisting you feel sick with a headache or stomach or asthma problems. So what you said is really insensitive to the people who are helping you deliver your baby healthily.
I agree on the breast pump however I did bring my flanges (breast sheilds) from the pump to make sure a lactation consultant could make sure they are sized correctly and I'm really glad I did as the ones that came with my pump did not fit me and many moms dont know that flanges are not a one size fits all. I needed to buy new flanges as soon as baby and I were home. So if you're unsure of your flange/breast shield size, I highly recommend bringing them with just to be sure.
My insurance was iffy on whether or not a lactation consultant could come to my house. Glad I took advantage of the consultant at hospital who also gave me a different size flange no charge.
@@Behen786 yeah the pillows at my hospital are soooo flat and my boppy is definitely more stable. Definitely bringing that for this babe. Wish I had it for my others.
My boppy pillow was my FAVE hospital item for baby! I had a C section and it made holding him for feeding so much more comfortable for me. Also for my husband when he was holding baby but also was FaceTiming family, it was great having that support under baby. 10/10 will always bring my boopy to the hospital!
Definitely bring a nursing pillow. I was as low maintenance as I could get as far as what I brought. I basically only brought a change of clothes, lip balm, dry shampoo, and a tooth brush. I didn’t want to be one of those girls that looked like they were moving in. BUT I wish I brought my boppy!!!!! The pillows were hard for me to get just right. I had a very hard time breastfeeding and it was very emotional. As soon as we got home and I used the Boppy, it was much smoother sailing. I didn’t realize how much easier that thing would have made my life. So if you’re debating, just bring it. Especially if you’re larger chested like me
I agree with this! I have 4 kids and I didn't bring the boppy for my first and the pillows were tricky and wouldn't always support comfortably each time. Plus it was a hassle to prop several pillows each breastfeeding session. Brought the boppy after I had my other kids and had no regrets! I also pack minimally because its just easier.
Great info! I did bring my Boppy Pillow and baby socks and I enjoyed having both items. My babies were naked most of our hospital stay because we did so much skin-to-skin so it was nice to keep their toes extra cozy. Also, Anyone who has a mom or grandma, or aunts, or sisters, knows that people always want to unsaddle baby when they come to visit to see baby's hands and feet, etc (haha). Keeping those socks on was nice for those moments. And if you lose them, there are tons more where they came from! lol
I didn’t know the breastfeeding pillow would be such a hot topic! What I didn’t explain fully in the video is that I don’t find the breastfeeding pillows (boppy especially) to provide enough support and lift, and I often find women who solely rely on it to be hunched over the baby bringing their breast to the baby instead of bringing baby to the breast. But that being said, it seems like a lot of mamas have really enjoyed having a nursing pillow in the hospital. So, my advice would be to pack one in the car and bring it in if you need it! 💗💗
I find that true as well. I'm pregnant with my fists kid and I've had a Boppy since I had my first. I never really found it helpful. I always used it more for sitting baby up.
I brought my brestfriend pillow in the car and I didn’t have my husband bring it in. But when I got home and used it I wish I had brought it in because it was such a help and was easier than stacking several pillows and it straps around you so it’s not sliding away from you.
Nurse Zabe in my experience with moms I’ve learned that they are quite necessary for very short/petite women. I’m quite tall so they’ve never worked for me but if it makes mom more comfortable.....eh
When I had my son I had an inflatable my brestfriend pillow that really helped. It didn't take up much space and I was able to get used to what I would be using at home.
As a soon-to-be labouring mother I definitely appreciate you bringing up essential oil diffusers. I have quite severe allergies to conifers and they really like to put pine and Juniper and all sorts of things in those essential oil blends. The last thing I want is to show up at the hospital in labour and in pain and end up having an asthma attack on top of that
A-freaking-men! I'm super sensitive to any kind of mint variety, it bothers my asthma, gives me a migraine, and straight up makes me want to puke. Patchouli is the same thing. That is the LAST thing I want to deal with in the throes of labor.
@@beatricereilly7467 Maybe try some essential oil rollers? That's how I use mine without them being diffused into the air so they don't bother anyone else.
Im a first time momma, currently 38 weeks and this was so reassuring 😭 ive had my bag ready for like a month now 😂 and was going to take my breast pump and boppy with me because im so unsure. I feel better about leaving it now. Less stuff to worry about / carry.
And if you're worried, you can totally leave them in the car! Many women have commented that they liked having their boppy, but I personally didn't find a need for it. Good luck with your delivery!
I think it’s so awesome that you care! For real! With both of my children’s births, I was at Inova Fairfax Hospital right outside DC. This is a LEVEL 1 hospital. These caregivers, (with the exception of my OB), could give a crap if I had a Boppy pillow, or if I had even eaten. The recovery nurse (after my son was born), told me my BP was too high to hold my son. I became hysterical after enduring 36 hours of labor and an emergency c-section. Unbeknownst to me, the monitors behind me showed my BP at 210/100 as I became hysterical. My OB stormed in and screamed at the nurse, who immediately gave me my son. My BP suddenly went down. Surprise, surprise. I was left alone a lot, despite paying astronomical premiums. The care was poor and I left both times after 24 hours, knowing that I would better care from my family. So, it’s really nice that you care about your patients and even what they bring.
Im 18 weeks today and i am SO FREAKIN NERVOUS😭 i just found out that I’m having a baby girl *screams in excitement* lol i love watching your videos. They’re very informative ❤️
@@annemariemiller4983 Well, you know if your doctor does the MaterniT 21 test (done at 12-14 weeks to check for down syndrome etc), you can find out the gender. I did at 13 weeks 😘
I love these videos. I already had my first child and somehow I still enjoy watching these. One comment about #10 though-I was charged $20 for a single dose of ibuprofen in the hospital and $100 for a single dose of something that cost me $30 for a 90-day supply. I understand the need for the staff to know what/when I take, but next time I’ll think twice about not taking my own meds.
I got 3 dogs and I will have my baby in about 5 weeks.. Fiance mom is worried about dog hair being on the baby.. But I mean.. Its part if life.. Especially my life for over 6 years now.
I’m sure I’m late (obviously) but I hope you had a great pregnancy and, I’m also sure now you know how prepared you were. For my first baby I packed things I didn’t end up using and those were extra clothing. Because the nurses would much rather you use the hospital gown.
The essential oil diffuser tip is a good one. I can’t imagine smelling someone else’s perfume/oils/cologne when I’m trying to give birth or accidentally causing someone else pain.
Thank you for making this! 39 weeks and 1 day with baby #2 and my hospital bag is half the size of last time. No one wants to be bogged down with unnecessary items during labor or post partum. Thank you for making this video!
I WISH I had brought my breastfeeding pillow the last time. I can't breastfeed without it. Was struggling so much in the hospital trying to position my baby to latch, it was so much easier with a breastfeeding pillow. Definitely bringing it this time.
38 weeks pregnant today! Following you from Italy, where a few things are a little bit different, I still find your videos super informative and so so useful! Actually, it is thanks to one of your videos that I finally took the courage to try an unmedicated birth, well, we'll see in a couple of weeks, but you know, for the moment I'm not scared at all..!! I guess I just wanted to thank you for your amazing work, I think you're making us "almost mothers" feel so much more secure and safe! Thank you sooooo much!!!!!!
Thank you for your honesty! I see different pictures of cute robes, outfits, etc. on social media that it's refreshing and relieving to hear what is unnecessary
We have SEVERAL nurses that have migraines. Many essential oils trigger those with migraines and the nurses that are negatively affected by these suffer immensely. I’ve seen nurses re-assigned and/or leave the hospital with major migraines because patients have infused the entire unit with oils!
I get bad migraines from strong smells... I'm not a nurse, but now I'm paranoid about going in to deliver my baby, and having to deal with the peppermint-lavender smells wafting in from the room next door, while I'm trying to labor. 😅 the migraines are ROUGH.
@@Shawnielee1990 same. I had to go to urgent care a few times in my first trimester because of migraines and severe dehydration. There were so many people in the waiting room and other places that were wearing the strongest scents and doused themselves in cologne/perfume. I was constantly having to lay on benches outside the waiting room because of those smells. It's hard to be at your most vulnerable and having people in those spaces that would willingly make others sick with diffusers.
Can you maybe in a video go over the different “pain relievers” used during child birth. New into research :) epidural vs spinal tap, or whatever else I might not know the terminology for !
It helped with my uterus. I have had two baby’s and the first time I tried the hospital pads and mesh undies and my flow was just way to heavy. So the second time I just brought depends (or as we call old people diapers). I have a great suggestion invest in a microwaveable animal for the cramping. Or for c-section incision. Mine is freezable as well. I had a natural birth both times and that “weighted” soft animal was so nice to have on my swelling
HAHAHA I’ve packed these for myself and honestly whenever I see them in my hospital bag I get so happy because I feel prepared in case anything feels uncomfortable in the hospital
Yes yes yes to this whole video!! I almost wanted to buy my own hospital gown and I didn’t get a chance to and I’m super happy I didn’t. I ended up having a emergency c-section so it would have been completely pointless to have one. I had a robe afterwards and that was great when I had visitors. Also I hated essential oils when I was in labor & delivery waiting... the room next to mine had a diffuser and the smell that she had going was god awful! I asked the head nurse to have her turn it off.
This is my first baby and getting kind of nervous the closer we get. Especially not knowing if she’s planning on coming early. These videos make me feel so much better, especially since I am not real familiar with maternity hospital stays. So glad you do them!
I needed just a few things-snacks, a huge robe for postpartum, a toothbrush and toothpaste, and soft clothes to wear home. My husband also had a small bag. But for real, I didn’t need much!
the nursing pillow is great support if u turn it around and put it under ur elbow. don't rest baby on it , but 100% bring it. ull need another pillow anyway
Definitely check with your hospital regarding the pump. I asked once I was already admitted (back in November) and was told they would not provide me one unless it was a medical necessity.
I’m in the U.S.. A breast pump was my most favorite item I took with me to the hospital! My daughter was IUGR, and born 3 weeks early. She was 4lbs 13 oz, and was a horrible lazy feeder. She was also lip and tongue tied, and lactation wasn’t even there. My hospital had no pumps available at all. They discouraged me from pumping too, but it was pump, or watch my baby starve. So I chose to pump. They only offered formula to me after days of struggling, by that time I was already pumping and supplementing with my own pumped milk. My milk came in faster by using my own personal pump in the hospital as well. I never knew I was going to have a baby with feeding issues, so I always think a pump is helpful to put in a hospital bag, just in case your baby isn’t the greatest feeder. Now, I’m 100% with you on the boppy!
The way he smiled when he got in the camera😂😍😍😍 omg he’s adorable!! These are awesome tips as well as the video about what to pack and I can’t wait until these months are over so I can put all this info to use!
For the birth of my son 3 years ago, the nurse actually suggested (during my hospital tour) to bring my own basic meds, like prenatal vitamins, tums, or ibuprofen. But I’m sure every hospital is different. And something I didn’t think about until after when I received the hospital bills, was how much they charge you for basic medications! It’s crazy!
I will be having my first child in March and I have been binge watching your videos. Thank you so much for all of this information!! I am so glad I stumbled onto your channel and hope that I have a L&D nurse as amazing, straightforward, and caring as you are! Thank you for putting my rampant pregnancy brain a little at ease :)
Would like to add about medication use in hospital in US: As someone who works in hospital pharmacy, I would say bring it if it’s a highly specialized med the hospital may not carry (like brand name birth control or specialized expensive/brand seizure medication or antidepressant). Most hospitals have most generic versions of a lot of commonly used meds but they don’t carry every med under the sun due to cost (hence formulary list). A lot of hospitals want patients to use the hospital supplied meds due to liability reasons but in case hospital does not carry (I.e. nonformulary), most hospitals have pharmacists identify the med before patients can use in stay. If it’s an extended stay, hospitals may borrow meds from each other to meet that need but it’s rarer and depends on the health system. Be prepared (Idk specifically about L and D though) some hospital stays, home meds will be asked to not remain by bedside and either taken home or secured by hospital pharmacy and given back after stay due to liability reasons as well bc RN has to account for every med given and we don’t know if what patient brought in is true med quality and purity or not if they want to take it (I.e. wrong med in wrong bottle). If patients must use own supply due to hospital not carrying that med, pharmacy will identify it and let RN know it’s ok to use. That includes Rx and Over the counter meds.
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS! I’m 39weeks 1 day with baby #2! Swore I was in early labor yesterday had contractions and cramping since 5pm and just woke up 6am and I feel perfectly normal 🤣🤣🤣 I’ll just keep watching your videos. Thanks !!
I just found your channel in my recommended videos. I’m almost 20 weeks into my second pregnancy and I am loving your videos. Added bonus, my 7 month old daughter loves your voice and fell asleep to a previous video of yours. You just earned yourself a subscriber ❤️
I can't tell you how much I appreciate your videos. As a first time mom, I've been so nervous for the hospital and the birthing process and having all these tips coming from a nice, honest medical care provider who's a mom and a L&D Nurse is SO SO helpful! Thank you!
I’m a vet tech and it sounds like us telling owners “don’t bring your dogs blanket or bed or leash or toys UNLESS you are okay with us potentially loosing it” I work in the ICU/ER and hate to tell owners that your dog will not miss its bed. We have orthopedic beds. You can bring a shirt or blanket with your scent but it may get lost. And we wash them within 24 hours anyways for hygiene and your scent will be gone.
Or at least check with your vet first. My pup sustained a back injury last year resulting in, thankfully temporary, paralysis of his hind legs. My vet was a rehab specialist and ended up taking him and his bed home with her after work everyday to better accommodate him and his needs. It was no demand of ours that he keep the bed but a question and the whole staff was enthusiastic about it. We were happy to take the bed home if it was going to be a problem or if they had beds better suited for his needs.
Interesting. My Vet actually encourages us to bring their bed, blankets, toys, clothes, treats, meds, and anything else that they are use to having at home so they feel comfortable while at boarding. Even our baby who had double knee surgery this past year, they asked us to still bring all of his favorites so that when he woke the scent was there and he would be far more relaxed. I have never left missing a single item, we fill out our check-in paperwork and list the items we brought for them and we get every single thing back at pickup without fail and I have 4! 🤷🏻♀️ My Vet is huge too. It's a Vet with a surgery ward, they do physical therapy, have over night boarding and daycare and a pharmacy. Basically if your pup needs it, they have it.
Thank you so much! I’m in New Zealand but I’m pretty sure most of it should be pretty similar. I’m a first time mum with 10 weeks until my boy is due.. and your hospital bag videos are the only ones that are actually helping me pack properly! I’m so glad I found this channel. You’re absolutely lovely
With my first I didn’t bring the boppy and relied on hospital pillows to help with nursing. It was awful and so uncomfortable! With my 2nd I brought the boppy and it was amazing.. I felt like there was so much more support! We’re all different but I am so happy I brought it the 2nd time around!
I didn't bring my boppy with my first and hugely regretted it. I did with my second and had a much more comfortable experience and less frustration. However, I always put at least one pillow under the boppy to push it up high enough. I just love the structure of it to keep a new nursling in a good position for success.
Same! All I wanna do is eat! I had some pretty bad morning sickness the first like 2-3 months(I’m 6 months now) and it was SOO bad I could barely eat! But I swear, when she said MEAT AND POTATOES!!! omg. I’m going to Walmart right now and buying a Roast to cook tonight! It sounds so yummy right now!(: Lol
@@aprilfekete I'm gonna be 6 months tomorrow! And I'm still eating everything lmao. I currently want chicken alfredo VERY bad only because my cats new litter box smells like alfredo. Weird but very true and yes i know not to inhale cat piss, i don't 😅 we're all good here
It's so inspirational the way you're so passionate about what you do, I'm 18 and I just joined med school, and your videos just gets me really motivated about the journey I'm about to embark on ❤
I had a dad come back to the hospital after discharge to get the water bottle. His wife's room had been cleaned and the water bottle had been thrown away. He asked for us to get it out of the trash because he wasn't allowed to come home without it! 😂
This is probably the biggest positive about being active duty military. My birth is completely FREEEE😁🤣! The hospital I’m delivering at told me do not bring diapers, wipes, pads, night gowns. All of that plus feminine hygiene products such as panties, pads, and feminine rinse bottles will be provided. I am blessed I don’t have to worry about anything except having my partner with me and having a safe delivery! The lactation nurse comes in to see you, all FREE. Like thank goodness. My breast pump is a hospital grade Spectra 2 that I got for free (thank you tricare🤣). I’m just really grateful! I can’t wait to deliver!
But is it really free? Or do we just deserve it for all the crap we have to deal with like having to call multiple times to get answers or being given wrong ones? I'm TRS, but I ended up having to pay 20% because my doctor went out of network and I was told it would be covered fully and it wasn't. I normally would have to pay $61. I would have switched doctors if I'd known, but they didn't give accurate info. 🙄
I have worked at a hospital for 18 years and it is crazy the amount of stuff that people bring in. I can tell you the glitter was not appreciated by housekeeping, I work in housekeeping. Also they dont need to bring the car seat into labor and delivery, it can be brought up when you are getting ready to leave. Also take home anything that is opened and disposable examples..diapers, formula, pads for mama it just get thrown away when the room gets cleaned.
Quick question: I’ve been told that with the pandemic it will be very hard for my husband to leave and come back in once we’re admitted. So should we bring the car seat in?
This video makes me less scared because I’m getting induced Tuesday and I was watching what I’m bringing in my hospital bag videos and made me feel very unprepared but this video shows you really don’t need all the extra things people always bring thank you for easing my mind!
I wish people understood that essential oil diffusers only work in a certain square footage, others can't smell it in their room or on the floor or throughout the hospital 🤦🏻♀️
I feel like this is a GREAT video! I'm about to give birth to my second baby and I packed ALL of the stuff you said not to pack (for my first) and literally didn't use ANY of it, except for the gown, which I didn't use for delivery because I knew it would get nasty, but for the second day for pictures. I remember stressing so much over what to bring, making a meticulous list, and we had SO much luggage to haul out of there and back into the house with a newborn. I love the suggestion to bring the stuff but leave it in the car. That way your poor hubby doesn't have to make 5 trips from the hospital room to the car. You are already going to have a bunch of stuff that people bring you (gifts) to take with you. I also recommend leaving the infant seat in the car until you discharge so it isn't sitting in the hospital with you trying to work around it while you're there.
When I gave birth, I legit only brought some clothes for baby, partner, and me. I also brought my own shampoo and bath stuff for me and baby (organic stuff). And the car seat. That was it. I didn’t need anything while I was there.
I wore comfy clothes (sleep t shirt, fuzzy pants, soft shorts, a hoody) while laboring and ended up naked. But I was very glad to have my comfy clothes in early labor and after baby was born. I was not going to be comfortable in a hospital gown ever so it worked best for me. But I would never ever go out and buy something expensive for the hospital.
This was fantastic! I was wondering about the nursing pillow! I think the less you have to lug around the better but I like the idea of leaving stuff in the car so in case you need it it’s there but it’s not all in your way (or the staff’s way) while you’re in the hospital. Thank you so much for these tips!
The nursing pillow was also the only thing I was thinking maybe- I saw in other videos people were happy they brought them. (32 weeks pregnant now) I too like the idea of putting it in the car and then having someone in the family run out and get it if you want it. I do think I'll be bringing 1 unnecessary thing- a friend crocheted a little security "blankie" the kind with an animal head- and even though I know the baby won't need/use it - I thought it might be sweet to have it since she made it for me/baby.
With my first I packed a book in my bag for if I got bored even though I was having a planned c section. I soon learned that I had no time for reading my book after he was born. I was too tired or too preoccupied looking after him do my phone became my best friend
Yeah that's weird. It's totally cool if that's how you sleep at home but this is not your home and the nurses are not there to take care of you (the husband) they don't want to see you half naked. My husband doesn't even bother bringing pajamas to the hospital he just wears jeans and a t-shirt and then brings a change or two of clothes. This way if he has to go out to the cafeteria or somewhere to get something to eat he doesn't have to change again
I used to work postpartum and the partners get so comfortable there. Had a dad drying off after a shower in the bathroom doorway. Please shut your door! :(
I wore the disposable panties and their pads, but when I got home I wore adult diapers, because I couldn’t hold my bladder for a while I wore the diapers at home
The head nurse at my hospital taught the birthing class I attended and she encouraged us to BRING.IT.ALL. so I did LOL. So my first labor I tried all the things, and made my husband run out to the car 100 times. My 2nd, 3rd, and 4th labors were so much more streamlined because I knew what I wanted.
I’m diabetic and I was surprised the nurses totally let me lest my own sugars and give my own injections they would just come confirm or remind me to test if I was sleeping or something and document from there but then again I had preeclampsia and was in the hospital for a few weeks those nurses were my buddies lol I loved all my nurses and I thank you for your hard work!! So patient and kind and understanding and supportive I had a great experience with a pretty traumatic pregnancy and delivery emergency section at 33 weeks. Ps glitter on the baby omg that gives me anxiety!
No one should know your diabetes better than you. But I'd still feel uncomfortable as a nurse letting you completely have control.....not every one does what they're supposed to.
Nicole Lewis I should add I’m very well managed A1C is 4.9 and they always witnessed my injections if I did them and I could call them before I ate and tell them my carb counts etc I wasn’t completely left to my own devices.
I just came across your videos and I love them. They are informative and entertaining... and your little man is adorable! I saved a couple to show my wife tomorrow. She is almost 39 weeks at this point with our first baby. When I asked her what she wanted to pack for snacks for the hospital, the first thing that came to mind for her were fruits and vegetables. I'm glad you validated my suggestion that we stick to nonperishables.
I would love to see like a Top 5/10 list from you! Or just general information about how to choose items like breast pump, baby monitor, etc... There are so many options these days I can't even decide how to choose it and when to buy it?
I love that you mentioned the fancy gowns lots of women buy for the hospital... I was walking around after my c section in nothing but mesh underwear. The only “getting dressed” unless visitors were there was the compression stockings they hooked up to the end of my bed. Not only is labour and delivery (even with a c section) messy. But holy crap! Post baby sweats and hormonal overheating was INSANE! the last thing on my mind was putting more layers on!
As a Postpartum Nurse, YES to all of this!! I totally agree about the breastfeeding pillow, newborns are so small and floppy that they slip down between mom and pillow, I tend to stack and roll pillows and blankets all around mom so we get the best support for baby. Also thank you for talking about diffusers, I have had patients who use them and I get such a headache when I’m in their room for more than 2 minutes. Totally agree about the dads in their underwear too, why do they think that’s okay?? My husband would NEVER walk around in his underwear anywhere but our house! People are crazy 😆
My breast friend was a lifesaver....I'm extremely glad I had mine We kept it at home because I lived less than 5 minutes away, but once I had it, it stayed til we went home.
Dads in underwear?! Omg nooooo! That’s why I always buy my hubby comfortable pijamas for him to feel comfortable too, but underwear should not be showing not even at home unless it’s our bedroom lol
I want to add that if you call your hospital to see what they provide, I definitely recommend asking sizes, and how many they provide. My hospital provided size 1 diapers and size 3 months clothes but my baby was a premie so the diapers and hospital clothes practically swallowed her (plus I had to fold them down for the umbilical cord). Also the entire time I was at the hospital (went in tuesday at noon, got discharged friday at noon) they gave me one pair of mesh panties (which got covered in blood fairly quickly), so I'm really glad I brought my own. Also im extremely glad i had some depends. I agree dont bring them to the hospital, but once I got home and took a good shower and didnt put one on I bled onto my sheets because I didn't realize the pad had moved. They were life savers.
I'm glad I brought my depends because I was leaking right away with the pads that the hospital provided for me. I know some hospitals provide diapers but I just had giant pads with the mesh undies that shifted around everytime I moved.
Me too! I hear so much talk about how everyone loves the mesh undies, but I never really liked them. I do love the depends, especially since you can get them in different sizes instead of being stuck with one size fits all.
My l&d nurse was so happy so see the boppy when she introduce herself on her shift. She said the thing is magic. This is my second and I’ll definitely bring it again.
Coming for youuuu 😋 I found my nursing pillow to be very helpful as opposed to the slippery hospital pillows. The nurse also told me to clip the babies nails and was surprised that I had already done it 😂 This baby came out with super long nails. I packed a robe and never used it.
Pendergrass Ranch lol same! I didn’t bring my boppy nursing pillow to the birth of my first and I struggled so much with positioning. When I got home and used it, so much easier. Plan to bring it to the birth of my second in a couple weeks. Leave in the car but definitely plan to use it!
I hated using the hospital pillows to try to breastfeed, my boppy was a lifesaver once I got home! I’ll definitely be bringing it but the rest of the list is spot on!!!
Your son is adorable!!! I love how you continue with the video and don't miss a beat 💙 I just found your videos and they are super informative!!! Thank you thank you!! I'm 39 weeks today and starting to stress a little on labor and delivery. Your videos are helping ease my stress and have so much more information I totally needed 🥰
Honestly I was happy with my choice to bring the boppy it helped a lot when learning how to breastfeed for the first time, made it a lot easier for a new mommy like myself.
When he saw himself, so cute.
Whitterkins McGee my heart melted lol
He's adorable what a lil chunk 😍
I don't have kids, I'm not pregnant, I'm just curious.... but your sweet, adorable, dimpled little boy makes me want a baby.
It’s a trap
@@madisynmiller1538 I suspect that... which is why I'm only watching videos, not actually trying to get one. They're cute until your up for 24 hours because baby felt like being held the entire night (according to my mom... I was that baby)
I hate to say it, but they're still cute even then. We would not have survived as a species otherwise.
TheZombifiedFairy lol my son was so cute he gave everyone baby fever... including me which is why he and his brother are 13 months apart
Jessica Quinn you’re a saint, as soon as this pregnancy is over my uterus is on a 3 year hiatus
The most ridiculous thing I packed was a football for my husband in case he got bored 😂😂😅
Bethany Didier that is the cutest thing I’ve ever read 😂❤️
I think you win on the most ridiculous thing brought haha. Least you were trying to plan haha
Oh my gosh, that is so funny! Thanks for sharing! And more importantly, did he end up playing football? 😂😂
😂😂😂
Nurse Zabe haha surprisingly he did not😉😅 I guess he was too busy helping me have a baby or something😂🤷♀️
Don't apologize for having your baby in the video/disrupting trust us we all get it!! 🤣
I knoooow right?! I loved his little smile when he was fussing and she lifted him into the camera 😩😍🤗
Truth! If you're watching this video, you most likely have kids or are expecting. Things like that are every day life. If you're not used to it yet, you will be. Haha!
I mean, we all know Holden is the real star of the show, so...
Right! He’s way too cute to apologize ♥️♥️
I agree....the baby is sooo cute! Don't apologize...just let us see the baby more often! :)
I actually heavily used my boppy in the hospital. But definitely a good idea to maybe just leave it in the car until you feel you need or want it
"All you need to breastfeed is boobs.... and a baby". *throws pillow*
Omg that cracked me up!
But I mean, #truth
I laughed really hard at that part
@@Nurse_zabe *2:25* Just came to say *awww his little face!* ❤😍😂❤So beautiful! I remember when my daughter started loving her own face, facetiming relatives became so much more enjoyable.. then she got bored & left 🤣 *thanks for the memories* ☺💝
Haha I love that too
literally laughed out loud at that comment!! love her
"Truth, don't come for me!" I absolutely love how upfront and honest you are. I love your videos and watch them even when I'm not preggo.
Indeed esp. Being over charged for IBUPROFEN
@@Nurse_zabe yea some of the hospitals I've given birth in all of that stuff is in a prepackaged bin that gets opened once you get to the room.
Karen Amaya Yes! And when you're pregnant, you have the nose of a bloodhound. I know I didn't want to be smelling reeking oils.
So true. I learned the hard way with my first baby.
I was SOOOOO glad to have my boppy pillow! It was nice to learn the way I was going to be doing it after I left the hospital.
Good to know. I bought one and plan on using it at the hospital.
I also loved mine way more than the pillows! I always bring it now
Definitely bring a nursing pillow.
Nurse Zabe I needed my pillow to sit and I wish I had it on my ride home.
When I had my son I had an inflatable my brestfriend pillow that really helped. It didn't take up much space and I was able to get used to what I would be using at home.
I took a diffuser to my last birth, so I'm super glad you gave insight into this. The last thing i want to do is make my OB or nurses sick!!
As a soon-to-be labouring mother I definitely appreciate you bringing up essential oil diffusers. I have quite severe allergies to conifers and they really like to put pine and Juniper and all sorts of things in those essential oil blends. The last thing I want is to show up at the hospital in labour and in pain and end up having an asthma attack on top of that
Brittany 2H I can agree my asthma is pretty unpredictable so it’s good to know these things
A-freaking-men! I'm super sensitive to any kind of mint variety, it bothers my asthma, gives me a migraine, and straight up makes me want to puke. Patchouli is the same thing. That is the LAST thing I want to deal with in the throes of labor.
I'm really glad I know this now! I was going to bring mine in. I'll find another way of using essential oils.
I just get headaches. From all strong scents.
I would take your pump if think will need it cuz they can help you figure out how to use it
@@jessicamoyer9512 good point!
I’m pregnant with my first baby and I’m so happy that I can go to you’re videos for advice and such please never stop they are extremely helpful 🤗

13 weeks for me and I can’t wait to find out what the baby is 😫😫

Motivate CONGRATS! I’m due May 5th !
“Oh what did you find? ... dog hair” hahaha ahhhh parenting

I am pregnant with my first baby and im in my second trimester and im so excited 😆 but i want to be prepared.
I’m pregnant with my first too I’m 24 weeks
I’m sure I’m late (obviously) but I hope you had a great pregnancy and, I’m also sure now you know how prepared you were.
For my first baby I packed things I didn’t end up using and those were extra clothing. Because the nurses would much rather you use the hospital gown.
Me too! 👋🏻
I'm not pregnant. Have no plans to be. But your personality is so sunny I have just binge watched your vids!
As someone who hates overpacking, I so appreciated this video! I genuinely don’t want what I don’t need 😊 Thank you!!
My boppy was a life saver in the hospital! I’ll bring it again next time! I also liked having it to put my son down on/in.
A breastfeeding pillow was THE BEST thing I packed! It helped so much. I’ve been breastfeeding for many years now and I still use it.
I WISH I had brought my breastfeeding pillow the last time. I can't breastfeed without it. Was struggling so much in the hospital trying to position my baby to latch, it was so much easier with a breastfeeding pillow. Definitely bringing it this time.
I'm not pregnant and I have never had a kid and idk what I am doing here LOL
Curiosity. 😁
I don't even want kids, and yet, here I am lol.
Yet you now know what not to bring if you ever do get preggers. Be prepared!-scar
This comment made my back hurt.. I read "spinal tap" and was like oooh
I never thought about lavender oil on a cloth during labor... would probably end up huffing the hell out of it praying it was chloroform 💀😂
😆😆
I'm dying!
Whahahahhahaha, right 😂😂😂😂😂
This comment made my morning.
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
I brought old people diapers and it was a godsend
I’ve had other patients do that and love it!
Me too!!!
HAHAHA I’ve packed these for myself and honestly whenever I see them in my hospital bag I get so happy because I feel prepared in case anything feels uncomfortable in the hospital
My hospital provides adult diapers and I’m so thankful they do because I had so much fluid, I leaked for days. Loved the panties tok
Rachel Looney that is really all you need!
the nursing pillow is great support if u turn it around and put it under ur elbow. don't rest baby on it , but 100% bring it. ull need another pillow anyway
I was told by another mom to bring olive oil to make wiping that sticky tar poop off easier. And Lord it worked so well!!!!! Would recommend.
Please do a collab with mama doctor jones!!
YES!
That would be great
Yesssss
YEEEES! Please, that would be so awesome!
Yes!!
It’s crazy!
Johanna B woah. How much did they charge you?. Just curious. It doesn’t sound great
It also varies based on insurance. I've never taken my own meds, prenatals, anything. And my insurance covered everything.
katie d I once paid $35 for ONE ibuprofen 800
I will be having my first child in March and I have been binge watching your videos. Thank you so much for all of this information!! I am so glad I stumbled onto your channel and hope that I have a L&D nurse as amazing, straightforward, and caring as you are! Thank you for putting my rampant pregnancy brain a little at ease :)
I'm giving birth in four weeks (hopefully!) I'm packing my bag this week! Thanks for the info!
Thanks !!

Rodra167 Yes, Tricare, 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 I’m prior Air Force. ✌🏻💗🙏🏼😌
It’s crazy how inconsiderate some people can be!
Quick question: I’ve been told that with the pandemic it will be very hard for my husband to leave and come back in once we’re admitted. So should we bring the car seat in?
@@ChelseaNovak99 it really depends on the hospital.
This video makes me less scared because I’m getting induced Tuesday and I was watching what I’m bringing in my hospital bag videos and made me feel very unprepared but this video shows you really don’t need all the extra things people always bring thank you for easing my mind!
I've probably got a lot of crazy stuff on my packing list but I feel like if something silly can make me more comfortable it's worth it
Kkkk real video with real baby smile..I like it..29 weeks pregnant and counting.thanx for all the videos
I get chronic migraines that are triggered by certain smells so somebody diffusing oils in the hospital could cause me so much pain
I had four babies and never even thought about bringing in diffusers and such. Guess I'm just old!
Me too !!! I have multiple chemical sensitivity
Jennifer Momma bear same
I wore comfy clothes (sleep t shirt, fuzzy pants, soft shorts, a hoody) while laboring and ended up naked.
Elissa I think that’s a great idea!! I would imagine it’s ok to bring something small like that if it makes you happy to have with you ❤️
With my first I packed a book in my bag for if I got bored even though I was having a planned c section. I soon learned that I had no time for reading my book after he was born. I was too tired or too preoccupied looking after him do my phone became my best friend
Your baby looks just like you! 😍he looks like a happy baby 👶
He’s a happy little chunk for sure!
Why the hell would men be walking around in their boxers! That’s not their home or a hotel
Because men are weird 💁♀️
Im guessing its when their wife is going into labor in the middle of the night and are kind of in a panic n forget to put pants on lol
I work on a postpartum unit and you’d be surprised how many men apparently feel that it’s okay! So awkward.
Caity Britt sage here with #2.
So happy I found this! I deliver end of December and will start buying things for the hospital shortly.
She looks like Drew Barrymore with the personality of Arizona Robbins😂❤
The one thing i loved was my boppy pillow . I have a large chest and with a standard pillow I had issues lol. Everything else i agree with .
My baby girl is due December 5th and I’m really excited your videos are really helpful especially being a new time mom!
I'm a first time mum also due December 5th :p
Due date buddies! Dec. 5th over here with baby #2!😊
First time mom, due December 12th!
I’m a first time mom! My baby girl is due December 7th 😊😊😊
My baby boy is due dec 8th
Brought my boppy to the hospital..so so glad I did.
I would love to see like a Top 5/10 list from you! Or just general information about how to choose items like breast pump, baby monitor, etc...
There are so many options these days I can't even decide how to choose it and when to buy it?
Oh there’s these amazing EO necklaces you can wear and you can drop your own oils into it and have it right near your nose
My breast friend was a lifesaver....I'm extremely glad I had mine
We kept it at home because I lived less than 5 minutes away, but once I had it, it stayed til we went home.
Dads in underwear?! Omg nooooo! That’s why I always buy my hubby comfortable pijamas for him to feel comfortable too, but underwear should not be showing not even at home unless it’s our bedroom lol
Get over it. The diffuser part. Girl boo wear a mask. She’s on labor youre so inconsiderate. Find another occupation & kick rocks lady
My nursing pillow was a must have for me, one of the best things I brought actually.😂 But everything else I totally agree with!! 💕
I think a bathrobe for after was really nice... You can cover up for company and it provides some warmth in the chilly hospital.
You look a lot like Drew Barrymore to me (: cute bubba!
5hifteD scorp I see it
She sounds like her, too.
She bubble like her
Your son is adorable!!!
