This scene definitely solidified the idea for me that only Luke could have turned his father back to the lightside. Ahsoka and Obi-Wan were his past while Luke and Leia were the future he so desperately wanted.

I heard this from another reactor but, Ahsoke broke the left side of his mask and this episode Obi wan broke the right side of the mask. Both of them were the people capable of turning Vader back into the light side but only Luke managed to take off his helmet completely, and in turn change his father.
This was probably not intended or planned at all, but it's pretty damn interesting and it's a really good parallel

It almost seems like Obi Wan never stopped believing the prophecy. Thats why he didnt kill Vader here. Then allowed Vader to "kill him",and made sure Luke saw. Its almost like Obi Wan knew exactly how everything had to play out. Probably didnt understand how Annakin could be the chosen one. But he was wise enough not to interfere. Knowing Annakin played a major role in some way. Now that takes real faith

You can literally see the weight of that guilt leave him as he says ...'Then my friend is truly dead..'. Exceptional acting on Ewan McGregor's part.

  • @nikmar77
    @nikmar77 2 года назад +138

I honestly felt really bad when Vader was losing. It's one of Vader's weakest and emotional moments like in ROTJ. Even with Ahsoka, he wasn't like that primarily because Ahsoka isn't as strong and he didn't lost that fight. Vader losing his composure and letting his emotions get the best of him is very rare and can only happen with a handful of people. This fight really highlighted his tragic existence, I really felt sorry for him, living with all this hate in his heart and not being able stop it. Obi-Wan walking away with closure and Vader stumbling, seeking revenge, wanting to fight him again and again and again. Even when he dropped all these rocks on him, the way he said "Did you really think that you could defeat me?" He thought that he would find closure with Obi-Wan's death but it didn't sound like it did and when Sidious asked him about it, he paused.
Man, Vader's character has layers within layers.

The third dual between Obi Wan & Vader is truely epic and in awe! Up to the point where we get to see Obi Wan coming to accept Anakin cannot be saved from the dark side as Vader took over. And we also see Ahsoka tried to plead him. In the end, Vader despise Anakin(his weakness). In that line “You didn’t kill Anakin Skywalker. I did” shows how far gone the fallen Jedi is, and there’s no way neither them can save them. Only his children can.

  • @chrisgiles6050

This lightsaber duel was so beautifully written and choreographed, both Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen dialed their performances up to 110% out of 100% as Obi-Wan and Anakin/Darth Vader on the field of battle once again.
Seeing Kenobi strike his signature battle pose again was so nostalgic, and the ways he breaks down with tears in his eyes as he says, "I'm sorry, Anakin. For all of it.", really gut me in the middle. It really reinforces how later on in Return Of The Jedi, the only one who could have truly redeemed him back to the light was his own son Luke.
This finale was everything to me, and it makes seeing their journey from the prequel trilogy all that more special, and tragic.

Honestly now I wonder if he tried to improve the material of the mask between the Obi Wan finale and his fight with Ashoka so his face wouldn't be shown to his enemies that or Lightsabers are strong enough to destroy Vader's mask in a couple blows

The Emperor purposely gave Vader the worst possible armor and cybernetics he could to punish him for losing on Mustafar. If Vader had been able to upgrade his armor and cybernetics he'd have been so much more powerful.

    • @styletyany7124

@@keithgriner61 not only punish him but to keep him firmly in the dark side. The armor caused him constant pain, pain gives way to anger and anger fuels the dark side that's why vader was such beast. Palpatine may be sadistic but he gets results.

My feeling was that this fight was contrived in favor of Obi-Wan. It seemed like Vader should have wiped the floor with him.
But I realized something: Every time Vader loses a fight (at least in the movies), he is facing internal conflict.
He lost to Obi-Wan in ROTS - conflicted about trying to kill his friend and master who is siding with his wife.
He lost to Obi-Wan in Kenobi - similar to in ROTS, while more importantly Obi-Wan found resoluteness in defending Leia.
He lost to Luke in ROTJ - obvious conflictedness
Every other fight he's in since ROTS, he is just completely dominant.

In three days Obi-Wan got better than he ever was in his prime, but left Vader alive to kill millions more people anyway. The visuals don’t compensate for the illogical plot contrivances.

Yet again Obi-Wan doesn't kill Anakin when he has the chance. Imagine how many people and how much the rebellion would have benefited from his death.

      Yes…
And the reverse could be said as well…
Vader might easily be able to kill Obi wan, whether Obi Wan knows Vader/Anakin’s strengths or not….
In some ways it is a respect thing… between master and Padawan
Long history, being like brothers, etc…
I can’t seem to explain myself clearly in that aspect….
Perhaps Vader sees Obi wan as his only true worthy opponent?
Any of this making sense? It’s the middle of the night, haha!
      Phenomenal stuff… just magnificent…

    • @Daniel__Nobre

Yeah.. probably could have saved millions, if not billions, of lives there. It’s like having Hitler in front of you, after he killed all of your family, friends, people.. after he chased you and tried to directly kill you multiple times.. after you know he killed thousands of people, including children directly and that he is going to kill many, many more yet and still.. nah, I’m just going to deliver a droid to this little girl that lives on one of the richest planets on the galaxy while leaving the other kid alone who doesn’t have an entire army to protect him, just his uncle and aunt in the middle of the desert.. again..

I love how surprised everyone was how powerful Obi-Wan was in this show. He literally took out general Grievous in like 4 minutes. I'd rate him 4th in the galaxy, jedi mind, at this time. Darth Vader had to lose this battle to become a proper Darth. I liked it.
