I remember that day,I was 16 and I took my dad's car without permission and drove from Paterson with my friends to see this concert. I really miss the 80's
Damn! GE Smith is so darn good on lead!!! Wish he would come back to play for Hall & Oates right now. His guitar riffs and leads were classics on their hit songs back then. Killer leads!!!
How cool would it be to have the legendary Daryl Hall has your father, especially if you were born between 1965 and 1970 when Daryl was between 19 and 24 years old. Very hard to believe he was 4 months away from turning 39 years old at this concert. John Oates is terrific as well. These guys are one of a few that could sing the phone book and it would sound pitch perfect! Get these guys into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame already. They should have been put in there in '86!
These guys should be in the rock and roll hall of fame! I heard Hall on Stern about 2 years ago and he was pissed(Hall)....They have written soooo many great songs over the last 30 plus years....They have so much more talent than most in the Rock hall today......
How I yearn for the day when someone claiming to be black can make a comment without feeling the need to tell everyone they're black. Pandering for the thumbs up or some kind of street cred?
@@shittyabandonedacc9626 Not at all. It's simply wishful thinking on my behalf. I'm not that insecure that I feel the need to state my race in any comment section, are you? Obviously, my comment triggered you enough to respond.
Hall and Oates rock!! GE Smith and T-Bone Wolk and the rest of the band have all the energy in the world. DITTO LUV THESE GUYS BEST BAND IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD.
I have the VHS too, got it from Amazon. I also have the cds of the concert. It was put on two cds for me, i bought them from Ebay. Hot fun in the sumertime was done great by these guys
Hall and Oates rock!! GE Smith and T-Bone Wolk and the rest of the band have all the energy in the world. A few people must agree with me, take a look at that crowd!!
Awesome performance ! Thanks for the post of it. Great to see Tom T-Bone Wolk on the bass. Sad to hear he passed Feb 28th. He was always a treat to listen to and watch with the Saturday Night Live band along with the incredible GE Smith. Take Care
@skyroe2 ...This was filmed at Liberty Park in Jersey City NJ.....I was there...Don't you see NYC across the Hudson River in the background? Above is a description of the video....read it...was not at all in NY... They were in NY first and then took a helicopter over to Jersey City to perform for the Liberty Concert...this was in 85...the following year was the big celebration in NY for the Statue of Libertys Birthday/anniversary..This was aired on HBO...I was right under the stage.
Even so, sell out or not....hella entertaining. This concert occured before my birth, but even so i resonate with it. G.E Smith is a beast...never seen a man enjoy guitar more than money than him.
These guys talented? Compared to who? These guys aren't very good. Let alone talented. Michael Jackson was talented these guys looked like the Thundercats and were mediocre musicians. The only reason they are famous is because bad taste like yours kept them relavent so far as bad taste goes. These guys are musically challenged cheese.......I'm just fucking with you I care about your stupid music. I'm just bored and your comment has a bullseye on it. So I fired away. Take care! P.L.
Absolutely agree with you! How is it possible that Hall and Oates are not in the Hall? They must have pissed off someone on the selection committee, or as the old Allman Bros. song goes, "I guess I must have done somebody wrong."
It may have been on PPV. My brother has the VHS tape of this. He also has some CDs that someone made for him. There are songs on the CDs that are not on the tape. If it was broadcasted on PPV, then maybe there is a full version if anyone taped it live. They do an awesome rendition of Hot Fun in the Summertime at the end. They need to release a full, unedited version of this on DVD.
Gotta love the 80's and the "Big" hair.. Go T-Bone.. Ain't they just cute. For real. I wonder to this day what Daryl's opinion is of his past productions/performances are. He was hot and successful and a money maker. No matter his opinion of the marketing it did him good.
Thank you dutchmazz for posting the entire concert!! I was there in the first row...out of this world..unforgettable experience for me...I am still trying to buy this...I posted the whole show in my favorites! Love it!!!!
I'm just not a lover of long hair. But hey, I am a huge HO fan, and of this song in particular. He can wear it to the ground for all I care! The video for this single is in my top 10 of all time.
I like how Daryl screws up and sings the third verse where the second should be and vice versa... you can see him acknowledge it quickly around 1:43... :)
anybody know who did production for this show? can't see the main clusters in the video and the wedges look like maybe audio anylists...put can't tell! from the side the p.a. kinda looks like clair's s4, but can't tell!
1:03 seems like the lead guitarists rig loses power or something. He looks to be switching it out with a tech right after. Any fans know what happened ?
Sorry, but I GOT to save this one!!
I was smiling at the end with all the serious guitar playing!
I remember that day,I was 16 and I took my dad's car without permission and drove from Paterson with my friends to see this concert. I really miss the 80's
They miss you too...
"T Bone" Wolk on bass, G E Smith plucking the six string, man, this was the reald deal back in the eighties!
i don't understand how this video doesn't have a million views!
After listening to so many singers live and being disappointed, I listen to Daryl Hall with his spectacular voice 🤩
Family Man is my favorite D. Hall & J. Oates song ever!
The Bass be thumpin! I love it!
Damn! GE Smith is so darn good on lead!!! Wish he would come back to play for Hall & Oates right now. His guitar riffs and leads were classics on their hit songs back then. Killer leads!!!
This was also broadcast live on the radio via the Westwood One Radio Network. I was listening to it from Texas at our 4th of July picnic.

Daryl has a son and doesn't acknowledge him at all. Nice daddy....

Ultimullett!!!!
That mullet has its own zip code. And so does Hall's sideburns.
+KoolCat ! great tune though. That is, the Mike Oldfield version
brad gilker Agreed. It's actually my fav H&O tune among many favs.
Love that bass line - it's pretty heavy and GE Smith rules !
The fact these 2 aren't in the RnR HoF just shows how twisted and worthless the entire thing is.
Cyan The Man they are

Liberty concert... I remember watching from home on that hot summer day.

1 of their masterworks!

Better than the original IMO!
wow, what big hair they had in that era!

@kdw456 GE is so underrated!
j'adore ce titre
How is it even possible to grow hair like that...
@mykroberts237 Looks like a tenor guitar they are tuned the same as a banjo.
Mickey Curry has the best drumset out of all the concert tours back in 1984.
Jonathan Moffit has the second best one.
I like how Daryl screws up and sings the third verse where the second should be and vice versa... you can see him acknowledge it quickly around 1:43... :)
I agree that Daryl is HOT, HOT, HOT OMG!!!!!!! If I was Sara I would sure be smiling :)
@dnardone I don't think Daryl could ever screw up IMO. Everything he sings sounds good.
This is the same year that my groupie sister slept w/Daryl, LOL
you haven't made it in Rock N Roll until G.E. Smith is in your touring band
I think Bob Dylan would disagree 😝 But yeah GE rules 🎸👌🏻
I have my own family😆
Mike Oldfield rocks!!!
Visit Rachel Rey's blog and her Nov.4th post has a petition (just comment) to get them inducted!!!
G.E. Smith............
When thousand of new yorkers spent money to see a mustache

Makin the mullet almost socially acceptable. Cuz if you're hot enough to still look that good, you win.

Hey, what kind of instrument is Hall playing in this video. It only has four strings?
Martha Stewart on lead song or...
who is the drummer?

Reg Dwight. D. R. Jones. Farrokh Bulsara. Rogers Nelson. Roland Orzabal. Look 'em up. And tell me androgyny rock wasn't =great= stuff.
"I just might"...what ?!?...
Awesome song, but thank God Hall later ditched that bad mullet.
It would have been a harder H2o with the lead guitar
