my HS was horrible. teachers liked me and i wasnt liked by anyone at all outside of that. those were when the beginning of my depression & suicidal thoughts started

I still get goosebumps from watching this. I was up front for the Big Baam Boom tour. These musicians kicked ass. I can still feel my high from being there some thirty odd years ago.
Underrated by the public. But those in the industry knew G.E. was a guy to go to. He did a fair amount of studio work, and of course played lead guitar with the first house band on Saturday Night Live.
pffft63 I can imagine a few musicians out there thinking 'really? this one's only F, G and A min'.....but you're absolutely right, that rhythm part and the voicings (which have to say always thought Nile Rodgers may came up with for the track) are not the usual cover band material, let alone the harmonies in so many of their songs and of Daryl Hall's vocal line. Dense, thick songcraft and also distinctive sounds. So much easier to play Alright Now instead.
@@kserna74 I dont believe he was fired....most major acts change their touring lineup almost every year....alot of it is based on availability, as most of the touring musicians have other committments in the bag.....G.E. simply moved on to become musical director of SNL for several seasons.....on a side note.....he is from the Poconos, and I can remember him quite well, as he used to come into the Scranton area quite a bit and jam with alot of the local rock musicians on a regular basis....used to see him hanging around when he was completely unknown and doing the local club scene..
I can kick myself for not going to this show. I was 17 and living on Long Island and had seen hall and oates 2 months earlier at NAssau Coliseum but this show had a different vibe WOW WHAT A SHOW HBO AND ALL!!
Just amazing how these guys were laying it down. Each one of them was on point that night. To be this good in concert, this is entertainment at it's finest.
@NYtoTX Yeah, so full of energy & never lets up the entire show. I remember when I saw them on this tour, security had to come & literally pull Daryl off the stage. He was so hyped up I'm surprised he didn't pass out from exhaustion.
I was 9 and I believe at a special event tent vip party with the company 4C with my family. Remember getting a special ID card that’s the logo there and a special t shirt. I remember there was lots of concerts going on and we watched a spectacular fireworks show. No clue I was part of history across from this twin towers. I will never forget this or 9/11 either.

They played the fuck out their instruments god damn !!!! Live version better than the studio version and the dude with the red coat with that guitar 🎸 man he killed it. 😂😂😂
I was there for the liberty anniversary thing. didn't get to see this concert but I saw the stage from afar. Very very hot day, took the ferry over to lower manhattan for other events.
Incredibly awesome concert! Wow! Hall and Oates loaded with energy, esp Daryl! I think this was their best group of guys in the band, of all time! Thanks for posting!

Believe it or not there's life after high school.
What a GREAT line!
That line always resonated with me seeing how this concert was 2 weeks after I graduated high school.
There's life in prison too 🤭
my HS was horrible. teachers liked me and i wasnt liked by anyone at all outside of that. those were when the beginning of my depression & suicidal thoughts started
Oh yea!!!
Awesome song. Could you even imagine being on stage and rocking out like this in front of a sea of people? What an incredible experience that would be!
Born 1999 and GTA V introduced me to this song. What a time it must’ve been to be alive 🫶🏻.
Another banger tune from the same era was “Saved By Zero”, forgot the name of the group, sorry
@@Zepster77 That was the Fixx. They were no H and O lol
The Fixx were great.
The dudes were on fire and brought the house down melted your fuckin faces!
forgot how cool this song was way back then, until I heard it recently again in GTA5
Never realized what kind of talent these 2 had behind them the whole time.. RIP T BONE.
G.E. Smith and the Saturday Night Live Band.
G.E. is a Guitar God He can play ANYTHING WITH ANYBODY.
🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Hall and Smith

Thanks. Hall and Oates are one of the all time great rock duos .
By the far the best pop performance of the 1980's.

Lucky son if a gun. Major moment.

Man they were JAMMIN!
I was at this concert. So cool to see it on RUclips.
the musical "bar" was definitely set a lot higher back then
Yes, yes it was.
Exactly
Why is that???? As a society the bar supposed to be set higher as time goes by...... we have been lowering the bar.
@@sandyherron4391 Because they like to cut corners today. And use autotune, playback, etc.

Everyone having a great time onstage...its not like they were going to be going to court the next day to sue each other !!!!!! so sad.
Unbelievable performance
No lip syncing totally live👍
This is real talent. I wish I was around for this
me too
+tough5hit I agree, do you like to party?
I love to party :)
i love this lineup, everyone has their own style of playing and clothing. G.E. Smith, T-Bone(rip) and of course Daryl and John.
trashammerbz Don’t forget Mickey Curry and Charlie Dechant
Yup, that's a group top quality, very expensive musicians on that stage.
Fuck.. I’d give my legs to go back to these times
Who’s listening ? 2024
After watching this unbelievable performance it's not hard to understand why they sold so many records-they were a hit making machine.
When you hear their music you feel every thing is GooooD

You missed a great tour...I saw this in March or April of '85..without a doubt one of THE best concerts I've attended to this day.
Never thought nearly 2 decades later they would be suing each other. Hope they work it out.

I saw them live in 2006 - they still put on an amazing show, and Daryl still has lots of energy and awesome dance moves on stage.
I think of Hall and Oates as pure pop, but this kicked some serious rearend.

Afternoon in the homeroom, they're about to let you go
And the locker slams on the plans you had tonight
You've been messing around with your boyfriend, maybe better left alone
There's a wise guy that you know who could put you right
In the lot, the boy that's idling by doesn't rev your heart
'Cause it's only lonely spots he shares with you
And the long halls and the gray walls are gonna split apart
Believe it or not there's life after high school
And that's why
The student body's got a bad reputation (oh yeah, oh yeah)
What they need is adult education
You go back to school, it's a bad situation (oh yeah, oh yeah)
What you want is an adult
Education
Oh yeah
The teacher don't know about how to deal with the student body
And the underclassmen are flashing hot and cool
All your girlfriends care about the watch you wear and talkin' about it
Believe it or not there's life after high school
That's why
The student body's got a bad reputation (oh yeah, oh yeah)
What they need is adult education
You go back to school, is a bad situation (oh yeah, oh yeah)
What you want is an adult
Education
Oh yeah
They're calling it a preparation
You're waiting for a separation
You're nothing but another odd number
Memories that you won't remember
So you got a little education
And a lot of dedication
But you want a little night school
Maybe some of it will rub off on you
The boys are busy in the mirrors
Trying to imitate their heroes
You make it with a false surrender
More memories you won't remember
The senior with the junior Miss
I wonder what the junior wishes
That she could graduate to adult
That she could graduate to adult kisses
Adult education
Adult education
Adult education it's a bad situation
Adult education
