There's a stigma that the more you pay, the better something is but the ZTE Z Max Pro aims to prove a low price doesn't mean low quality. Does it deliver?

this dude dont understand that you are dealing with a $99 phone he cant stop complaining . Dam i wish Michael Fisher makes a review of this phone he is the honest RUclipsr and the best reviewer.
+Jesse Ling But it's like comparing a film with 100k budget to Avatar or any other really expensive movies. It makes no sense and that's exactly what this idiot is doing, dumbass
thank you
if I gave him a free phone he would still complain
+Jesse Ling just stop making john look good ... if he is a great critic like you say then he most understand price to perfomance of this phone and not bitching about the screen and camera and you say he is a critic he cant even tell the difference betwen a $99 phone and a flagship one and just start complaining about everything hahahah
+George Shehata you are welcome bro :)
Can a cheap ($100) phone be good enough? Yes. The masses are brainwashed into thinking they gotta pay $500 plus for their toys...
As someone who just paid almost $800 for a flagship, I don't feel "brainwashed". I made a decision. I value the features I get from a more premium device. I don't begrudge people making a different value judgement but I'm not uninformed or mistaken.
Besides, remember that most people are selling these phones when they upgrade so actual loss on the phone will only be between $200-$350 in my experience. And that allows the user peak performance and the best possible experience for the time they have it. And that's not taking into account pre-order and sale bonuses that realistically decrease the cost.
I'm on my phone all day. It is the device I interact with (both personally and professionally) more than any other in my life. $200-$350 for 12-18 months of the best possible experience on the device I use most on a daily basis is worth it to me. It's cool if you disagree but it's weird to right off the majority of people that disagree with you as "brainwashed".
+Jonathan Grant nah, phone drop in value too fast to pay that kind of money .
Cesar Hanson my mom says if the phone can call and text your good thats all you need...
I'm sure.... someone's salty
wow, I don't know a person who uses his phone weekly. every phone is 24/7/365 working. a $100 phone like that will do everything you need, only problem is high end games and everyone is not a gamer...
100 bucks out the door tho... Holy shit, what a bargain. Full 1080p, expandable memory, snap dragon 6 cpu, 2GB Ram. Damn man. That's pretty good.
+TheFly212 and finger print sensor
TheFly212 13 mp camera. You can't get better bang for your buck. I might buy one tomorrow
It also has 36 gigs on buy.
If you are a "HARDCORE GAMER" You aren't playing games on a phone anyway.
This guy gets it lol
Exactly. Like come on.
i would rather get the $150ish nividia gaming tablet then this
+Jesse Ling mobile gamers are cancer
Hearthstone you scrub
When a Mid-Range has more resolution than the Iphone 7.😂
dani gil savage
dani gil It's a low end actually, mid range would be Zte Axon 7 Pro and 1+3T
O MC Even worse for the Iphone LOL
I went from the Zte zmax pro to the iPhone 7 the ZTE was amazing but I would prefer the iPhone just because I like the interface more and I’m more experienced with it
The creepy background music is REALLY throwing me off the review here... not fitting at all.
ikr
for me its night so that helps as well xD
bigstabby I couldn't help but notice it. So obvious to me.
it sounds like a background track in dark souls 3
^
Why this guy so harsh on a $100 phone? I'm confused, are we supposed to expect high end quality on a phone like this? Someone help! 😩
This guys is a terrible reviewer and everyone hates him
I'm using it its fast af
He's not being hash he's just explaining the user experience.
yep hes a terrible reviewer which is why no one likes him
'Cause the clueless guy that's standing in a MetroPCS googling reviews and deciding between this and an S5 needs to know what he does and does not get for his extra $100.
Maybe the value is worth it for him to have a less color-accurate screen, muddier camera and choppier performance. Maybe the extra money is worth it for him to have a smoother, more premium experience.
ZTE is shooting to compete against the big boys here. And this is a very solid effort. But lets not kid ourselves, the biggest pro this phone has going for it is the price. And consumers need to understand what gets left on the cutting room floor when you get down to that price point so they can make an informed decision.
The background music is scaring me...
thank you I believed it was just my imagination
Same. I was feeling quite unsettled
Yeah whats with it?
I didn't even notice until I saw you said something, now I know why I was feeling uneasy.
+Dandy same 😂
the only thing you should ask your self for a $100 phone is WHAT IS THE STORAGE? for the rest, why should you care?
And ram, if you have crap ram (under 1gb) it'll not run smoothly in day to day tasks.
You can ask for a little more these days
it has 32g storage
+CG Games , meanwhile people pay 700$ for 16gb iphone 6s+ . I think ZTE is selling this under the production cost, too bad it won't be available in my region
Power users need more.
THE ZTE ZMAX PRO HAS A GREAT SHARP BRIGHT VIVID DISPLAY
Lance Tech bootlegged iphone
The Blade Z Max downgraded and the LCD panel looks more washes out. Zmax Pro is ZTE's best phone.
@@fightbackphonescams2682 and the best budget gaming phone
@@AzureQuality it really isnt
It really doesn't
honestly buddy....what do u want from a $100 phone....who else offers a better phone for a hundred bucks?! I'll wait.......

when you just ordered the new note 7 and you watch this vid
hahaha
lol it's okay note 7 is gonna be a lot better phone. may be 750 bucks more... but.. lol
+fty wick3D i was implyin that i just bought an 800 dollar phone nd im watchin a video about a 100 dollar phone. I dont want this shitty phone, rather have note.
+H C oh lol that makes sense thought u meant you could've saved money, but yeah I agree the note 7 is going to be a great phone, I've seen alot of videos about it.
+H C
the note isn't exactly that great. Even though dual curved edges and a QHD display are present, I honestly don't see anything different from the previous S6 Edge+ except the iris scanner. Which even a low budget smartphone such as the idol 3 carries, just better optimized.
the music was kinda creepy
Lol
I kept thinking my refridgerator was crapping out. But its the fricken music! Good lord! Check your fridge android authority! Its dying!
been using mine for a bit now and I've got to say it's definitely holding its own. The phone also has a beautiful battery life.
is there a reason why they removed the notification counter on the messaging app on this phone? I have this phone for T Mobile.
Help! Should I get this phone or the Moto x 2014 because I need a phone less than $150 and if i dont find the Moto x pure less than that then I need one of the two. Feel free to give me phone recommendations.
Come on John, it's $100! if this device can run Pokemon go is a winner for any kid.
It runs the game perfectly. I've been demoing for MetroPCS, and it's been a solid win for most functions.
Dandy h
Just picked this up today!
You are going to love it
Cool, not a big phone guy as I don't play games etc on it really. But for the occasional stuff I do, this looks right up my alley especially at that price point.
I got mine yesterday and it's pretty good for its price (I'm not big on gaming on phones aside from the occasional asphalt and angry birds
welcome to da club
Can we talk about it? Or is it like Fight Club? ;)
March 2019 and still lovin my Zmax Pro, still get a full day from the battery and 6" screen is plenty big for me, Thanks ZTE
I have it and I broke it and trying to fix it and the ink is spild so I don't know what to do
guys let me tell you , that for the $100 you paying , this is way to much cell phone , the display color accuracy isn't the best , nor the camera , but the rest is just amazing ( btw typing from it ) if you are temp to buy one don't be afraid , this cell phone it's worth the $100 you will pay for it :)
You're right ...👏
Thanks :)
+Dylans VitaReviews Yea it comes off more expensive..and it looks and feels very sleek
Wilfredo Hernandez I can agree with him i just got it today and it's really surprised me coming from a s7
Wilfredo Hernandez do any of you guys have a problem with the touch screen? I find that it doesn't scroll as easy as my Alcatel fierce I used to have. Is there any way it can be adjusted?
I don't play any games I need a phone under $200 that I can use to talk, text, social media and take some pictures. and watch some videos on RUclips
is 2gb ram on snapdragon 617 good enough for these things with any slow down or hiccups?
yes this is perfect for that, especially after the update it got a few days ago
thank you i was worried about only 2gb ram and snapdragon 617 to use in 2016
+Dilwale cricket oh it is, especially with near stock Android. only thing that it'll really show in is graphically intensive games. (But even then they are still playable, just don't expect the highest settings or fps)
like i said as long as it makes phone calls, text messaging, what's app, youtube, facebook, uber app, espn app than i am good. i am not looking for gaming to be honest
okay i will take your advice a buy it
my first ZTE phone hopefully the experience will be good. 2gb ram should be plenty for what i am looking to do right? and i don't think i require a higher end snapdragon for my normal use
+Dilwale cricket yeah 2gb is plenty, because stock Android is really good at managing itself. as long as you don't plan on very heavy multitasking you'll be all set. just make sure when you get one check for system updates asap, because the last software patch made it run a lot better.
Best phone I've ever owned, had it about 2 years now. As a mailman I use it everyday for 8-10 hours listening to music and the battery still lasts me all day. I've dropped it everyday since I owned it and never had it break.
Do you know if there's a setting to scale down the size of the apps on the phones home screen, etc? They're freakin huge.
I love the phone. I just brought mine yesterday and it's a good phone.
this is a good trap phone
what
Yung Foodstamp what I mean by that is a backup
+Slunt guy haha I'm dead 😂😂😂
I was thinking the exact same thing
I was thinking the exact same thing
hey trying figure out I should get Samsung galaxy j7 our the lg g stylo 2 which one any suggested
I like your videoes man you give all the small and big things thanks
Bro why am a watching this in my zmax pro
lol this is the only person I know to downgrade a phone that costs $100 that plays games like asphalt 8 and grand theft auto with no lagg lol. this guy's a hater hands down.
Noel Ventura So this phone can play games like asphalt 8 okey?
I did I didn't have any issues with it at all. It's great and for the price you can't run that game any better.
Noel Ventura Noel Ventura okey thanks .
what phone do u recommend for boost mobile.for same price range. with 32 or 64g?
I'm having a problem with my phone LCD lines pop up randomly can you plz help??
They should start reviewing cameras based on how well they perform on Snapchat xD
Michelle Lazaro Only teenagers and fame hungry celebs use Snapchat
Michelle Lazaro I agree
he just can't believe this phone is so good at that price that he subconsciously has to talk bad about it
Ikr
I love the phone. Nothing wrong with it.
Fr
This career needs honesty. Sorry if it hurts. Need a bandaid?
Lance Tech I have the zmax pro its trash not worth $100 its worth $50
John v should I choose this phone over the lg stylo plus 2
why u dnt put the part when u unlock the phone with fingerprints, how fast it is on this phone?
if buying this phone PLEASE read the manual it says you need to use ZTE only no other charger because it can possibly mess up the phone or your battery can explode. not sure if it's true if it's true but why take chances. Otherwise this phone is really spot on amazing I just bought today.
that's all phones, all that is just to tell you if you use a charger that's like Chinese, the warranty will void if it explodes and they find out you where using a non ZTE charger.
I have this ZTE Pro Max. I really like it! Works great!
It's amazing! You can add an SD card to make your storage huge. I have a lot of pics and videos on my phone, and still haven't had to add an SD card. It's not an iPhone, but for the price, it's amazing! I use it heavily, and it performs like a champ! Camera is pretty good. Not great, but very good
Question compared to zte grand x max 2 does Zmax Pro have HiFi headphone DAC aka headphone jack ?
does it have the Dolby sound app like the zmax has?
that background sound is so annoying with your depressing review.
i mean with samsung and apple you're just paying for a name it's like taking a hanes t shirt and slapping a versace tag on it
hey is the zte blade v6 plus good ? may i get an answer >.
Anybody know if the rebate is still available to get the phone for $99 in-store?
I'm tired of all these reviews comparing the $100 phones to the flag ship devices.
Please stop it. *We know it's not going to be amazing, so please stop acting like you were so disappointed.* (Almost any time he says something negative he compares it to something that costs $400+)
why the horror music esque background?
Thank you for a through and concise review. This video really will help with my next phone choice. I'm curious however, I have very poor vision. Do you believe the color depth issues would be an issue with ease of use? Also does this phone have ease of use features like text size options and increased or decreased contrast?
What, can only use with Metro? Wish you would have mentioned that at the beginning of the review.
$99 bucks this phone is awesome I got mine 3weeks ago I have absolutely nothing to complain about this guy is definitely trippin end of story .
just got mine today :) :) love it so far, first big phone, but I'll get used to it :p
TheDiaperedDJOfficial just got my ZMAX PRO yesterday since my regular ZMAX broke
Broskibro9492 The Trolling Unites it's badass isn't it?
TheDiaperedDJOfficial it is
TheDiaperedDJOfficial can you check to see if you can move apps to the SD card.
April Privott not sure. I haven't used the SD card much. since the 32 GB built in comes in handy
Anybody getting the Samsung galaxy S7 edge note? I will when the HTC Evo 2016 comes out.
how did you test your screen rgb?
What's up with the music in this video it sounds all gloomy and creepy
it's a awesome phone I have
it
crazy thing is same
crazy thing is lol "crazy thing is same"
Steven Aldana haha
will it work on T-Mobile out of the box, or is it locked to metropcs
does the ZTE zmax pro have 3way calling?
Site says it's 160$ and not 99$
its $99 bucks
that's reg price and 100 after rebate
I don't know what rebate means, nor reg price. I'm from europe, those are unfamiliar terms to me
+Sasha Uchiha with a rebate, you would for example pay 160 then get the 60 dollars back in a few weeks
anthonymr921 Why take them at all then? I'm confused
Damn that thing is too big and yes I know.... that's what she said. I already made that joke so please no one reply with that.
Michael Lopez would you rather barely see anything or have trouble stretching your fingers? i think its just me
CalvinWinz_YT You can see things perfect on a 5 inch screen as long at it has a resolution of 720p or higher.
Michael Lopez well i have a 480p phone, i can see everythin fine
CalvinWinz_YT Yeah I guess that's right but things get a bit blurry. I guess it's because I have been using phones with quad HD displays for the past 2 years.
Michael Lopez Well my dad's about to get a new phone, I can get his old one and play RUclips at 720p60fps soon
so when it comes to games does that mean clash of clans and Monster Legends well lag?
Excellent informative review. I have a ZTE phone and hate how under powered it is. I'm tempted to try this...
Will Pokemon go work with it? XD
Yep
Yes
It should work. I have a virgin mobile variant of the samsung galaxy j7 and it plays fine. both phones are similarly spec'd. Samsung skimped out on sensors and the vr mode doesn't work but i usually leave it off anyways to save on batterylife. This phone might have the vr function work, it includes a compass sensor and i think thats the one that's needed for vr in pokemon go but im not 100% sure
+Jailbreak Spot is it laggy??
+Lycosa is it laggy
I have a question, Like i never got phone/ service form or for any company, so if i join metro pcs for the zte zmax pro i know the phone cost 100 dollars plus tax, so will money still will be taken off because its my first time? Without service?
Will it be in Europe or non Metro available?
The ZTE ZMAX PRO is an amazing phone, considering it's only $100! I've had mine for well over a year, and I haven't had any issues what so ever. I would never purchase an expensive cell phone! NEVERRRR!
Does anyone notice the erie music in the background? It's subtle, but I notice it in my head phones.
is it possible get zmax pro with cricket?
I want to review this handset. How do i get one in the UK?
does anyone know if u can use it on T-Mobile?? this would be a great phone for my kids..
is this the same as the ZTE grand x max 2?
hi John god bless you and your family Galaxy j7 compared to zmax pro which would pick please let me know
John, I see you have Antutu on the phone. What was the score please?
Is there any alternative for this phone with a 5" display?
Is there a link where I could buy this phone
Great review!, for the price point I think it's amazing! right now I have the LG G2, and I'll keep using that but I might buy this one as a secondary
can this phone work with wind
do I need a plan to buy it from MetroPCS at their deal of $99?
I'm getting this tomorrow! Can't wait!
Is the audio out of sync or is that just my Nexus 6?
does it support otg cable?
Would not ever think John V. would leave Phone Arena. He's been there forever ! Welcome to Android Authority it is !
Can I connect this phone on At&t's straight talk ?
Just to let y'all know, I had my old Zmax for 17 months now, and not one single problem with it. It still works like new. So I will buy the new Zmax pro today when I get off of work.
what is that alien background noise in this video ? I enjoyed the review . I want it !
I went from an LG G3 to this phone and I can say that I am extremely content with what this phone has to offer. the display is much easier to see outdoors and is a little more vivid, the camera has manual controls and can provide very great shots if you take your time (laser autofocus is missed though), and the battery life for me has literally been 8 hours of SOT per charge with average to heavy use. all of this plus the fingerprint scanner for 99 bucks makes this phone a must buy
I have it too, came from moto G 3rd gen. it's great
Just got the phone. Total was around 120 with a new case. I love it. Big 1080p screen looks beautiful. The speaker is pretty loud, but of course if you're in public or around ambient noise it's not gonna seem loud. The battery life is AMAZING. The fingerprint scanner is nice.
i have this phone and im actually impressed. my daily driver was a one plus two and decided to give this phone a try.
If you guys hate this guy, then leave. He's one of android authority's best reviewers and he's staying his honest opinion. I figure that he would make more success without android authority and made his individual channel
Does it have dual band wifi?
will zmax pro be getting Android 7.0 updates
does this phone come wirh a gyro?
Does it sound good when u play music?
I've had this type of phone for nearly two years now and I love it. It has good storage space, it's smooth, easy to use, doesn't crack easily, I can go on. But overall it's the best Android I've ever owned and it's a great deal since it's very good, large and inexpensive. The only things I dislike about it has to be the lack of fonts, languages and it's ugly emoji's but other than that this phone is worth it.
I've had this phone for a couple months so here's my thing
Cons:
-Big, thin design makes it open to damage
-Very glitchy
-Data often stops and goes back on
-Lagging is inevitable
-Fingerprint Sensor works every now and then
-Slick design could slip out of the hand
-Data often stops working depending on location
Pros:
-Looks great
-Feels great
-Envy to your friends
-Wide screen for video entertainment
-Camera quality is decent for what you get, but tad bit better
That's it. Make your decision.
Can you get it without going through MetroPCS...?
I'm completely blown away by this phone. I wish metros budget line had been like this when I was still using them. My lg Optimus M was 150 after a mail in rebate and hardly impressive lol.
is it otg compatible ?
I've had an iPhone and I'm so glad I switched to android with this phone. It's got a huge screen, a rear speaker that really kicks, and a superior camera. I love the fingerprint ID on the back because you can open specific apps with jut one touch. I installed 64 gb of internal memory I bought on eBay and was able to upload my entire music collection without losing space for a ton of apps and pics. You can't get that kind of storage with iPhone unless you pay a pretty penny. Plus, iTunes essentially holds your music captive if you didn't buy it from iTunes. Switching phones a year or two later means potentially losing all your 3rd party music. I love this phone!!!
Loved the review, may have touched on the mail-in rebate and compared an apples to apples a bit, overall great job.
I ask u yet dual SIM or single ???
Will this run emulators well
