This is by far the best version of this song. I always liked it, but after seeing the show this came from,I couldn't get it out of my head. I have since learned to play a lil guitar and "play" this song. Love it. Thanks to Jackson Browne for writing it and thanks to the late great Gregg Allman for making it a treasure.
I Live in Atlanta and seen the allman brothers 10 times ,,,,,They use to have 3 day concerts every year called dog day fest ,,All the southern bands would be there ,LYNARD SKYNARD ,,,Marshall Tucker Elvin Biship ,,,,,,,,,A R S AND MANY MORE ,BEST DAYS OF MY LIFE I SURE MISS THEM DAYS !!!!!!!
I saw Greg Allman and Friends in 92 Butch was on drums and Derek brought the house down at 15. Wore a Braves hat and surf T and shorts. One of my fondest memories.
Always loved Gregg's layed back southern style on this song... Please don't confront me with my failures... I've not forgotten them... Awesome slide and arrangement by the best house band you can ever have :)
Since the early 70's this has been my all time fave song,,, Jackson Browne's lyrics but Gregg's voice just brings them out so much better !! What a treat to see them both perform this song together !! :) thank you for posting it !! (the lighter made me laugh !)
Barbara B You just can't beat that Southern drawl. Jackson Browne is my number one dude Gregg Allman you can't say anything bad about him because he was so great. Lord I was born a Ramblin Man I grew up on.
These Days, It seems like that song always takes me back to summer of 1975 when the love of my life got marry, just not to me. Didn't think I would ever get over her and in a way, I guess I never will. But thanks to the good Lord he made a lot of women and I found one who while not the first, will damn sure be the one and only. Married since Aug 1978 and loving ever day of it. fyi, my first love is now going on her fourth husband, maybe it's true, you don't always get what you want, but you get what you need.
Johnny Rocco getting over your first love is never easy me and my ex broke up 30 years ago after four years together i married someone else but still think of my first love and miss her
Thanks to Jackson Browne & with Gregg what an amazing performance..... just slow & let the song sing by itself ..... it also makes me cry & I don't know why
Very sad there is not a better video out there! Saw this concert on AXSTV & it was awesome! Are U kidding me ..................? I am 60 yrs old and Allman/Browne are two the the greatest allover musicians from my genre! Someone needs to do a f**king updated video of this soon. Let's not wait until he dies to hear this
Beautiful- Of note this gig was in between 2 sold out tapings of Gregg Allman’s triumphant personal and musical return to Macon Georgia with a joyful “BACK TO MACON” CD/DVD taped set of shows - 12/28/2013 & 1/14/2014 - Via FB I encouraged a allman bros band big house museum volunteer to not only petition for ABB to play Macon again since last Spring 2010 show, but also to Gregg to book some gigs! It was quite controversial at first some indignant the earth is flat minded folks tried to get petition taken down then some folks laughed and said “ He’ll never play Macon !” well she didn’t take petition down ( I just wanted he to catch wind of it and know lots of people wanted him to play Macon even after so many years of mixed emotions ) ... I don’t know how he found out - probably Chank Middleton ❤️- but Gregg responded!! The tickets sold out in a few minutes in presale for 12/28/13 so they decided to book another show after the huge Fox Theatre, Atlanta gig - This time I was ready and got pit Tix !! I was ecstatic as was the world ! Love was AGAIN all around and the sound and good karma was here for Gregg never again would there be any doubt ❤️ All of the bad blood and drama fell away and it was so beautiful- All he and what ABB struggled with but kept bearing the torch to keep the Brothers together - to keep touring through sickness pain pushing on for the love of the music and the loving fans. He deserved to be brought back and 12/28/13 & 1/14/14 were his Welcome Home 🎉 we danced our asses off in the music hall and down the streets 🍑🍄❤️ A friend and I went to The Skydog & B.O. crash sites and reminisced about how the road had taken and given back yet never ended. He was welcomed by a jubilant sold out 2 night taping that heralded his return to Georgia he started doing 3-6 nite Macon Grand Opera stands every winter after Athens Ga @ GATH fall shows and Savannah, Augusta - RIP BAYBRO
Remember seeing Greg Allman do this song with a full orchestra at the Fox theatre in Atlanta in 1974...yea 20 yrs ago and president Jimmy Carter was on the front row. That night Cowboy was Greg's special guests and what a concert it was. Damn where did the time go
I saw Greg Allman during his tour for the album "laid-back", can't remember if it was 73 or 74. I was only 13 or 14 years old then. I still have that album and play it often.
Two of the most gracious talents in the biz, what a treat to see this , I learned this from Jacksons sheet music, capoed on the 5ths fret in standard tuning it's great to see it played almost as the original version, most clips I've seen he doesn't play it this way very often .mostly on his own he's capoed on the 2nd and finger picks it. This was a real treat as I'm sure those at this show would surely agree...
I wore out the grooves on Gregg's Laid Back album, played it almost daily from 1973-75. I know JB wrote These Days, but that last line just sounds like Gregg. Please don't confront me with my failures, I'm aware of them.
Gregg edited the last line. It is Gregg literally saying that. On Laid Back, he only sings 95% of Jacksons lyrics, and I prefer it this way. Jackson appreciates it too.
Wow! There are a handful of songs done by different artists that put their own life into...and this is one of them. Jackson Browne Gregg Allman (he has his own version) Nico (from Velvet Underground) Glenn Campbell (not just a rhinestone cowboy. Wonderful...wonderful...wonderful. PS Another song like this for me..."Wooden Ships"
I think I first heard this song done by Tom Rush, then Jackson, Kate Wolf, and of course Greg Allman. I've been fortunate to never hear a bad version of this song. Perhaps that's the sign of a truly fine song. (there are a lot of versions I haven't heard too)
His name is Jack Pearson. He is a former member of the ABB and quite possibly one of the best guitarists on the planet. Check out some of his other work here on RUclips, just type in "Jack Pearson guitar" on the search field.

I saw Greg Allman and Friends in 92 Butch was on drums and Derek brought the house down at 15. Wore a Braves hat and surf T and shorts. One of my fondest memories.

Thanks to Jackson Browne & with Gregg what an amazing performance..... just slow & let the song sing by itself ..... it also makes me cry & I don't know why

Great video, Brock! (Laura Jane here!)
Hi Laura Jane!
And now I've come to see myself again.
Mom would love for you guys to do this song at the wedding
I have always loved this song. By both artists. Even though JB wrote it, I will always love Gregory's version best. Bit of an obsession.
I completely agree. I love JB but Greg's version is my fav.
I am a massive JB fan, but I totally agree. Gregg' hauntingly beautiful voice was meant to sing this spectacular song.
JB wrote it? i thought it was nico
Jackson wrote the song.
