Lot of truth here. I think thats why I always appreciate what Chris Poland and Marty Friedman brought to thrash, they always brought a lot of originality into the genre with their solos.
Alex Skolnick and Tommy Baron of Coroner were a couple other standouts amongst thrash lead players. They had this melody and magic to their playing that not a lot of other guitarists had.
@@aminostruth3494 I feel like Skolnick and Testament in general often get overlooked when talking about thrash greats. Personally I find them to be better than 2, maybe even 3 of the "big 4," and are at least on par with the other 1.
I love slayer, have since I was a kid (39 now) and I’ve seen them countless times. That said, their solos were always the shits. I can’t think of a single solo that I even halfway like (maybe seasons). My buddy and I used to have a saying when something didn’t make sense ……”that makes about as much sense as a slayer solo”.
I love how you put Testament with the other three bands from the Big Four. Testament really is a kickass band and deserves respect, severely underrated!
After laughing at this video, I immediately showed my partner the guitar solo from "Practice What You Preach" and she was just like "oh wow yup literally all the things right here whoop"
You always gotta have the “go.” My favorite thrash song (and maybe favorite of all time) is My Apocalypse by Metallica. That song has the “go” at one part and then right before the solo it has the snare buildup, so you know its a good song if it’s got those 2 things.
I'm a drummer but have always loved you and your videos. I don't think I have seen a single video of yours that I didn't enjoy or finish smiling 😅 great work dude. Much love.
I cannot imagine a more accurate portrayal of the common thrash solo. You've nailed it on the head. If I thought it was coming, you came right in with it. Amazing...LOL
I was 18 years old in 1989. This was the type of music that was the epitome of guitar playing. It made it hard on me, as a guitar player. Now that I am 50 years old, I still cannot do that. Great job.
