- Qingdao is perhaps the most beautiful coastal city in China, and boasts some spectacular beaches, historic European architecture, pleasant weather, and delicious seafood.
While human settlement dates back around 6,000 years ago, the face of the city changed drastically when German naval officers occupied Qingdao in the late 19th century. Railroads and ports were developed, but the Germans also built schools and churches. They even built a brewery, which over time became one of China’s largest beer producers, Tsingtao. Some of these buildings have been preserved, and provide a striking contrast with the more modern face of Qingdao.
In this aerial video, I will show you some of these buildings, but also fly over the modern business district and skyline, and some more traditional pagoda style structures. The scenic beaches and rolling green hills and mountains are some of the highlights of Qingdao, and are visibly stunning. The city, however, is also a major industrial and commercial hub, with a massive port, connected via the 25.9 kilometer long Jiaozhou Bay Bridge, one of the largest in the world.
I studied in Qingdao for one semester in 2010, and had the chance to travel and visit the city again in 2019. This time I took my drone to capture some of the main sights and landscapes in this fascinating city.

wow, so many WTF moments in your vids. Like when all of a sudden a "European" city center altogether with a gothic church pops up in a chinese city. It's insane. Then if you would have shown me a screenshot of this mega city with it's skyscrapers along the beachside I'd have said maybe Sidney or wouldn't recognize this city at all. Who had ever heard about Qingdao?!
Haha great question! It's really quite a unique city on many different levels. An old colonial district, then a modern skyline, one of the largest ports in China. All on the coast :)
Because Qingdao was occupied by the Germans in 1897.

You really know Qingdao, bule sea and sky, green trees and red shingles, best sand beach (front beach and gold/silver sand beach is the best beaches in Asia), plus long history chinese Tao's culture (one branch of Tao's culture developed around Qingdao, such as laoshan), and influenced by the culture, full of nice people, with the best climate in china,Qingdao is the most popular city of China.
