I have been in Chongqing in the end of 2019, really an impressive city and almost a must visit when in China. I have made a short video of my stay and uploaded it to my channel.. 😉
The video is comforting but makes me sad at the same time. My granny used to live 2 blocks away from the bund & my junior school was 5 minutes walk from the bund. It brought so much childhood memories back. My great granddad worked in the Peace Hotel in the 1920s. The first KFC in Shanghai was opened on the Bund. We used to able to cross the street on the Bund instead of walking through under-tunnel nowadays. I recommend to walk though the Bund in the morning around 5 or 6 (during summer of course)... not many people and tourists during those early hours... I can't wait to go back....
Hope you can go back soon! This city certainly changes very fast, and it can be difficult to adapt. Let's hope that some of the older parts are at least kept in place. Best wishes :)

It was fascinating for me to learn about the marriage market and while it might seem strange to other cultures, being Chinese (but not from China), I can understand why the families are doing so in the hopes of finding someone suitable for their sons and daughters. It might seem oppressive but marriage is a topic that is very sensitive in the culture.

In the old Shanghai area, relocate means you can get rich immediately, in these old streets, government always must pay millions of dollars for the residents to just relocate a 60m^2 old house. So it now become a barrier for both government and residents.
Some locals want to relocate, while others may not, and some of them also want to get more money for relocate. This make the government difficult to relocate the old streets for reasons like the high relocate fee, or some reluctant residents.
My wife's parents' house is waiting to relocate. But because of the high value of housing, the government or real estate developers have been hesitant to make a decision.
