Lawro - your career finished all too early. Could listen to you chat for hours. Come back and tell some of those untellable tales!
Yes indeed ive got Keegans autobiography this is mentioned in great detail....and maybe he was too hard on himself as back in the day Lawrenson was lightening but Keegan had such high standards, must have been difficult for KK to come to terms with his declining powers
First one I've decided to watch in full, Lawrenson is honest and quite down to earth. The guests are effectively left to tell their stories and chat away. However Lawrenson's story is worth it.
Really enjoyed listening to this, Interviewer is a bit of a Whelk but you can't buy experience! Lifelong LFC fan & ML was a huge part of the Dominant Era. ❤
Always liked Lawro co- commentating. He'd slip in a few funnys at the right time.. off the cuff stuff not like a lot of today's coms that seem over sanitized, rehearsed and stat heavy. Anyway, great interview. Well done both of you 👏
Mark is brilliant, just strolls through a game with his humorous little comments and you feel like he's just sat next to you on the sofa watching the game. The best of all them without even trying, natural and too good for the BBC
I’ve never paid for tv licence and won’t even when i was arrested and put in a cell over it! Imagine being put on a cell over not paying for a service you don’t use and don’t have a choice whether you want it or not
TOP DRAW INTERVIEW!!!!!!!!!! Mark is right on so many levels, its very refreshing to hear someone with great game intelligenece, wit and knowledge speaking the TRUTH!!!!! BBC are REPUGNANT!
I genuinely don't understand how he doesn't know who Robert Maxwell was or even Dean Saunders. I'm actually not convinced he knows who Ghislaine Maxwell is either ... his eyes looked rather glazed. Weird lack of knowledge.
I played in a charity match in the 80's when I was 16 on the same side as Lawrenson. I scored from 25 yards and he said some snied remark to a team mate, didn't congratulate me or even say well done or well played after the game which I thought was really poor from a grown man (especially one I idolised as a Liverpool fan). Wouldn't have taken much and would have been a memory of a lifetime. Never liked the man since & I'm pretty sure I understand why he was a failure as a Manager.
They were just as good as each other. Where Alan Hansen was better was how calm and collected he was, but Mark and Alan were in a class by themselves back in the day.
He was the only commentator who really understood the game. He was calling people out for diving and feigning injury long before it got as bad as it is today. People didn't get his humour and mild sarcasm but then again like Mark I'm from Preston.
Underrated as a player? I was always of the opinion his partnership with Hansen was viewed as best of all time (at least to that point). Can you get higher praise? It's sad he's throwing the word 'woke' around in a _negative_ sense (like right wing idiots / scum do). Woke means you understand how people are oppressed. Sure, phonies might claim oppression but there are so many people genuinely being discriminated against: women, POC, atheists(!), the unemployed, environmentalists, homosexuals and the disabled. Basically, whoever billionaire media moguls tell their idiot subscribers to hate. Woke is the way to be. Capitalists are killing the planet lest we forget.
I wouldn't say underated, ask Keegan why he gave up football, people remember Lawro as a defender (and the tackles he made were a work of art)but he was good enough to play in midfield for us for a while,we wanted this player for years, finally paying nearer a million and trading Jimmy Case in the deal,he was world class.
Watched Mark on many occasions at my home club Brighton. Fantastic player and not surprised he went on to better things. BBC were mental to sack him. Top man, honest and funny a very rare quality in today's world. Ben keep up the interviews, very enjoyable. More to come hopefully 😊
They were never quite the same at the back after Mark limped off. And when Hansen retired LFC went thirty years without a league title. Hopefully it's the start of another 30 years of glory.
Was in a pub in Deeside 1983 , spending my hard earned £27 from a YTS scheme, Ian Rush and Mark Hughes came in with a couple of birds on each arm , stopped for a chat and autograph, both good blokes and very friendly, id just finished playing in a 5 a side comp and they were really interested in how it had gone
"can't believe the BBC sacked me!" Goes on to confuse black men who played for the same club 10 years apart. The BBC has got A LOT of shit going on and going wrong but Lawro could do with looking at himself for once.
@@jasbindersidhu because of the irony. Bemoans he got sacked for being an old white man, then can't even remember the correct name of the black person he's speaking about.

Thoroughly enjoyed that interview,Mark was a special player indeed and such a shame that injury cut his football career short, but he was then a top pundit for many years, thank you Mark. 👍⚽️
You were 65 and you had to retire? That doesn't sound too unfair. I can remember Mark being on TV in the mid 90s. He'd have only been mid-late 30s. If nobody else had retired until they were 70, he'd have never got on. We'd have had England World Cup winners doing the punditry till about 2010. It'll never cease to amaze me that so many people in broadcasting don't get this.
Not seen him on anything for ages, didn't realise he was still working. He always seemed enthusiastic, unlike Lawro who could make the best game ever seem like a funeral.@@TheDvdral
I agree.. And I know it's ITV and Sky. And not the BBC. But Souness is 70 and is still regularly on. I rate Lawro and Souno about the same.. Same old tired and boring talking points. For him here to blame him not being on because he's white is embarrassing though.. Name one black or female pundit, and I can name two white men. Maybe he wasn't as good as he thinks.
@@rorrt 70 is old enough, I think. Jimmy Hill wasn't always the most self-aware, but he quit gracefully at that age.And he was a way more important person in football than Lawrenson and Souness. Their mate Hansen knew when to quit.
LOL I love how he gets both Benteke mixed up with Heskey AND Pogba mixed up with Balotelli...or "Baloterry" as he called him. Lawrenson is an absolute legend.
Couple of his best lines were on Football Focus when he was asked if Harry Redknapp would join Southampton after Portsmouth and Lawro said the bookies say he is. Also said Harry changes his Club more than his underpants 😂
When Mark speaks, the football world should listen. A society that truly understands the value of experience and longevity would have the likes of Mark as the loudest voice. We are poorer without it.
I've just come across your channel my first thought was "who the heck is Ben Heath?" never having heard of you before but I quickly warmed to your delivery and easy going, 'chatty' and eloquent interviewing style. You could easily give the so-called pros at BBC and Sky a run for their money. Lawro is always going to give good value but you do need to brush up on your footy history if you don't mind me saying, there were a couple of moments which exposed you but that aside I've now subscribed and look forward to more entertaining chats with legends like Lawro.
Mark Lawrenson was great on MOTD, but changes are always needed, to try and keep the viewers interested. Gary Linaker will move on, in the next couple of years. Alan Hansen done the right thing and retired. Media people have a sell by date, thats for sure.
The TV companies gave up on standards some time ago, so people eventually stopped noticing and talking about it. Then the George Floyd effect resulted in the policy of flooding TV studios with black presenters and guests, - so football punditry is dead now.

Does the interviewer even know that Lawro played for Ireland?
Not a clue. How can he not ask him anything about that? Legendary player for Ireland.
100% Irish as well.......
The podcaster sadly isn't knowledgeable..
Gen z ...the future!
First one I've decided to watch in full, Lawrenson is honest and quite down to earth. The guests are effectively left to tell their stories and chat away. However Lawrenson's story is worth it.
Met Lawro in the mid 1990's, genuinely fantastic bloke.
Great pod lifelong Liverpool supporter, love the old stories. Didn't realise lawro was so funny, great one liner's
Well done both of you 👏
I wish he done midweek European games on Radio 5 instead of likes of Dion Dublin and Matthew Upson. So bad.
Mark is brilliant, just strolls through a game with his humorous little comments and you feel like he's just sat next to you on the sofa watching the game.
The best of all them without even trying, natural and too good for the BBC
Top player and would always figure in my all time LFC starting eleven, in a back three. With his pace and tackling he covered the mistakes of others.
VVD, Hansen and Lawro.
Such a great interview, loved watching this one. All the best mark lawreson
A brilliant down to earth interview, top man👍
So authentic .... legend of a person and was described as a "Rolls Royce" as a player by my Dad... is right Mark don't look back with the BBC
I genuinely don't understand how he doesn't know who Robert Maxwell was or even Dean Saunders. I'm actually not convinced he knows who Ghislaine Maxwell is either ... his eyes looked rather glazed. Weird lack of knowledge.
Astonishing lack of knowledge ...this interviewer is pretty dumb...Does he know who is Brian Epstein? Unbelievable...
It's surprising how many people don't know who Robert Maxwell is. No one thinks of his name if it comes up in a TV quiz.
As a defender, i thought he was even better than Alan Hansen. Thats how good he was.
They were just as good as each other. Where Alan Hansen was better was how calm and collected he was, but Mark and Alan were in a class by themselves back in the day.
What a pair they were, I never saw anyone tackle like Mark Lawrenson, he was as good as Hansen.
@@delby66 like robbo and trent
@@howwwwwyyyyyHansen..Lawro and Gillespie all quality.
Difference is , Jockey Hanson was that good he didn’t have to slide tackle
One of the best interviews I've watched. Fascinating.
The best commentator by a mile. Funny but highly intelligent and knew the game inside out.
Also highly underated as a player.
Legend.
but people didn't like him, we all remember how no one liked his commentary...nothing to do with him being white.
Revisionism. Lawro was not a good pundit.
Great interview. Always like M.L, great footballer
Great interview Mark.Interesting factual and funny. You were a decent player also.
Watched Mark on many occasions at my home club Brighton. Fantastic player and not surprised he went on to better things. BBC were mental to sack him. Top man, honest and funny a very rare quality in today's world. Ben keep up the interviews, very enjoyable. More to come hopefully 😊
Was on The Kop in 87 when Lawro pulled up with that injury, everyone knew he was finished. Sad day. YNWA.
They were never quite the same at the back after Mark limped off. And when Hansen retired LFC went thirty years without a league title. Hopefully it's the start of another 30 years of glory.
@@benphilips9918 Fully agree, very underrated, his speed and tackling were phenomenal.
Martin Hayes if I remember
Was in a pub in Deeside 1983 , spending my hard earned £27 from a YTS scheme, Ian Rush and Mark Hughes came in with a couple of birds on each arm , stopped for a chat and autograph, both good blokes and very friendly, id just finished playing in a 5 a side comp and they were really interested in how it had gone
Would love to see Mark on rotation on the Neville and Carragher show on CBS sports
Ben Heath, you need to redo this interview and question Mark about the Maxwells properly lol
Living in the States now remember you playing for Ireland , Mark you’re sound man !
Emile Heskey playing under Jurgen Klopp? The guy keft Liverpool in 2004
that's his age showing it's self..100% meant Benteke
"can't believe the BBC sacked me!"
Goes on to confuse black men who played for the same club 10 years apart.
The BBC has got A LOT of shit going on and going wrong but Lawro could do with looking at himself for once.
So what he got 2 names mixed up. You sensitive soul.
@@pbplauralfilms i smell a social justice warrior ..bet you hate white males with a passion
@@jasbindersidhu because of the irony. Bemoans he got sacked for being an old white man, then can't even remember the correct name of the black person he's speaking about.
Brilliant interview always like Mark when he was on the TV used to make me laugh with the stuff he'd come out with shame the BBC didn't see it the same their and our loss
Great point
And yet Garth Crooks remains.
Really miss Lawro & Hansen on MOTD. Has never been the same since.
Agreed!!
Nah we're better without him! He's had his time.
Saying klopp got rid of Heskey suggests otherwise
Lawro is far too pleased with himself and his repertoire of shit dad jokes to be of any use to society
He was a dull commentator back in the day. Monotonous tone as if he didn’t want to be there.
@@miamitten1123use to make me laugh when he would say "he's terrible him, how do you miss that" in the world cups 😂😂😂
Miss this guy and Alan hansen on the football. Great Pundit and great Guy! Love the stories as well!!
United fan and I like Lawro. Grew up watching him, Hansen and Lineker. Shame woke got him.
I really enjoyed this interview!! Mark is great. A legend!
Great podcast. Remember Marks goal, in the derby at Goodison. Great player..
Great interview Mark was a excellent player for ireland we were lucky to have him, Liverpool legend as well.
Good player was mark and I am Everton fan plus when my kids were playing at Butlin tournament he was always their
Never been Lawrenson's biggest fan, but I do miss this kind of rational analysis in regards to Rashford and the job that ETH is doing. 1:30:07
He needs to maintain eye contact too, very off putting lookin at his fucking tablet all time!!!
Definitely one of THE Greatest; he could turn, tackle and distribute. And he speaks a lot of sense.
Yea, right. This was the guy on who, on pointless celebrities when asked to name a country beginning with “A” said Alaska 😂. He’s a moron.
Mark Lawrenson was great on MOTD, but changes are always needed, to try and keep the viewers interested. Gary Linaker will move on, in the next couple of years. Alan Hansen done the right thing and retired. Media people have a sell by date, thats for sure.
Doesn't mean it needs to turn into Woke shit though does it?
Rubbish .they don't fit the yes boy agenda.
The TV companies gave up on standards some time ago, so people eventually stopped noticing and talking about it. Then the George Floyd effect resulted in the policy of flooding TV studios with black presenters and guests, - so football punditry is dead now.
A cracking interview covering so many topics.
A top bloke, legend. Great video :)
The BBC is awful and the tv licence should be scrapped. People have to pay for a service they don't watch and don't want to watch.
Great insight. Engaging & well funny. Mark is far, FAR more interesting than the 'Tick Box Tommys' in todays world.
Respect to Mark, top pundit n a honest speaking top man… Respect!
Interviewer a bit too young - didn't know anything about Dean Saunders the Maxwells
You do not need to be old to be capable
Not a question of being old - he didn't know the subject matter and his youth may have played a part in his lack of knowledge about past facts.@@jimpackard8059
Not a question of being old - it's a question of knowing your subject matter....and his youth may have played a part in his lack of knowledge on historical subject matters.
Why should he know anything about Robert Maxwell?
He shouldn't have to know anything@@splodge57
Oh and by the way....... what a player Lawro was for us and one of our many legends. YNWA!!
