Your first work is such a massive and unexpected hit that of course any thing next will have high expectations. It is a biographical work, so it is hard to have a sequel. Don't take the pressure and expectation. Try to lower your expectations. Part of the reason any 2nd work (sequel, follow-up etc.) are often not as successful is because of the time involved. The breakthrough hit is often the great passion project that was the focus of years of effort; then after it hits, the commercial demands asks for a similar quality follow-up work in the subsequent 2 years - a fraction of the time involved in the first work. Relax, and take your time on your writing.
Ambition is a hell of a drug. Doing any kind of creative work, especially well, makes it very easy to attribute the quality of your work to the quality of your identity, and after years of the cycle, you become filled with pressure to do better or self-loathing for having not done better already. It's a blessing for the work and a curse for literally everything else.
This is so relatable for me. Thank you for sharing your journey with others who need it. I find a lot of content for the initial "healing" phase after trauma, but then the work stops. No one seems to keep going and going like you do.
