As I see it’s 11 months old.. I don’t see one.. if there is please post a link.. thanks oh…
$1500?!?! Great price. Even with parts and labor...you should come out ahead I'm wondering how those seeds got through the carburetor into the combustion chamber. I'm still learning how stuff like this happens
Those are maze seeds and they were a mouses winter stash. They got in the combustion chamber because they didn't check before trying to fire it up and as soon as they cranked on it they were sucked right into the engine.
@@prophez23 that’s a sad way to go. I always check the airboxes every time they sit. I almost blew up a scrambler 500 because the air box was full of gas and tried to hydro lock the engine but I got lucky
Plug was probably out at some point while it was sitting. Or rodents. Rodents can can absolutely destroy engines and wiring if they sit too long with no attention
There’s always a steady supply of messed up 450’s out there for sure. These machines take a lot of maintenance and can be reliable for some time…no maintenance= time bombs. I prefer Raptor’s or even LTZ 400’s…much more reliable. Fun watching you figure out the failures and making it right.
ltz400 are great they are fun big powerfull they last long cause its a enduro or something people say. all 450cc are agressive engines = maintenance...
Love my YFZ 450. Still a good buy. **Dude!!!ALERT!!! That blown cylinder had a coolant port the gasket didn't have.Did you notice the gasket covered the coolant port right next to where the failure occurred??? Lay it back on the head and count the ports...there is your answer.😁👍
Just got one for mine for 129 with all parts and gskets. That 450 hasnt ran in long time. Have one we held on to in the shop someone tig welded the crack and sleeved the bore. Cant believe it was working but it was running when it came in,we replaced top end and it was perfect. Just funny to see that crap. Not often but once in a while get a doozy in.
My 01 WR290F had the manual decomp system removed when I swapped the cams. Now it kicks over smoothly almost like a 2 stroke. I can start it with my arm if I give it a good one. Definitely look into it.
It looks like it got ridden through deep water and hydro locked. Would explain the cracked cylinder and all the gritty stuff in the cylinder as well? Idk just a theory
When using a compression tester, it doesn't trap the compression in the combustion chamber it keeps it in the gauge . You don't get scammed when buying something that you know it doesn't run . The seller can tell you anything they want so you take it all with a grain of salt
I've built countless 4-stroke race quads for Baja, MX & XC. I've never used 'big bores' for them. Always stock bore, usually stroked, always ported. Ported, oversized valves, stroked, high compression pistons gives sooooo much more power where you need it AND more reliability. Cylinder walls are a main reason. Big bore cylinders are junk. Granted there are exceptions, like LED big bores for trx250Rs and such. Btw. What is all that crap in the intake and on the piston? You probably want to COMPLETELY rebuild that carburetor as well😬
Joe you really need to pull that engine out and split it,run everything through the parts washer and Build her back up with new gaskets and I would probly replace the countershaft seal and the shift shift seal aswell. That nasty oil and particulated matter from the worn piston an cylinder have ran thru the bottom end and I would take a peak at the oil pumps aswell.Do it right the first time so u don't sell it to someone and then they have trouble and you end up having to do the job twice.
There wasn't anything broken on the engine - like ring, piston or bearing. Just the cylinder wall was cracked and there are not much metal shavings from a scratched cylinder wall either. So just two frequent oil changes will do the job, not needed to put the engine a part just because oil and coolant mixed together.
Comp going out through carb. Set intakes to 6 thou if those cams are even a little off it gonna run. My 660r that's got the 686 stroker kit on it was fun to set with two hot cams and two new race carbs that are a pain to set up, screws underneath, had to buy special tool for it but she rips and starting it, it will pop right off
My wife asked me if I'm going to kill somebody again. Because I built my cousin a Ducati monster engine. And it killed him. I said no I just like watching you. Keep up the good work Buddy. 👍
26:12 I knew it didn’t have any compression from the start because they never did crank it up always get them to crank up anything u buy but don’t buy it if it don’t run but it would be better to do a full rebuild then sell it to get some of your mny and time back u spent working on it
i seriously wished i lived in a big country like the US or Canada where i could also make a living on RUclips buying, fixing and selling recreational vehicles. There's a massive market over there and plenty to choose from. I have all the tools and know-how but just don't have access to enough vehicles to make it full time or even part time really. My country is small and the market for quads and bikes is just too small, and so everyone here wants top whack prices for scrap and aren't easy haggled.
I think sometimes Joe conflates "what they go for" with "what they're listed for". The $4000-$4500 listed YFZ's sit on marketplace unless it's like new or completely done out.
That’s very true. I watch them sit there and the price continue to drop. Went and look at one last week for $3500 , took it for a test ride and it started spitting coolant and oil 😂 I said have a good day buddy lol
Awesome video but bummer deal!! I just checked on ebay. Plenty of cylinder jugs. Few new several used! Just thought would be of interest to you! Good luck dude!
Joe check the fly wheel moon key on the crankshaft it could be sheard of inside to. Causing it not to start up.& Run again along with having no compression to.,or A bad camshaft one on the top end witch throws the valves off to due that reason alone. Cause they can drop.,or loosen up from having A worn out camshaft inside of the top end to.

If one invests in upgrades and sells the machine before the upgrades are worn out, one can expect aa little more money for the machine. Seems like some kids believe they can pass the cost of repairs, including the cost of consumables such as chain and sprockets, spark plugs and tires on to the buyer. Can't do that kids. 2vintage has the newbie buyer stamp all over his body. 9 out of 10 times he buys the mc/quad/utv/etc in THE DARK using only his mobile phone as a light source. ALSO: If the whole family / neighborhood shows up to the deal I would turn around fast as fkk. ONLY the seller can be there. If he is a minor then at least one of the parents must be present. Nobody else.
I can see that, it's a bit tough for him though because he's a youtuber they watch, so it could be just fans trying to talk to him. For regular sales to regular people I completely agree with you, the more people the less merrier.
A way to weed out the scammers on non running vehicles is ask if you can bring a bore camera. If they are lying they will either say no, tell the truth, or ghost you. Saves you time and headache. If they have no clue about the issue, then if it is messed up severely thats leverage for a cheaper price.

Looking at the crack on the cylinder (i have known brand new Cylinder head to do it) and the wear on the cylinder and you can still see the hone marks in it I would have said it was a faulty cylinder from new and even tho it past inspection when it come to metal you can not see the grain structure inside so the crack could have been in the casing and a few heat cycles could force the metal to fatigue and then show the crack
When you were checking the head gasket, should the water jacket or whatever the passage is around the 7 o'clock position be blocked/covered up? It's obviously not cut even though the rest of it looked fine. It's around 47 minute mark when you were looking at it.

If I go meet up to buy something expensive (1500 bucks is expensive if you look at if for possibly getting burned) anyway, if you're not 100% about what you have, what you claim to have thousands and thousands of dollars into but are going to part with for 1500 bucks, and you're not 100% of what cam you have, what bore it might have, what brand piston it is.. nah bro, why are you even talking to me? But. It's different where you are, and I get that. But.. around here, nah man.. I'm not beat
Always go through scripted order checklist . Battery Pack and compression tester A Must . Keep the videos coming young man your doing a great job.🇨🇦

"No"....
How's he supposed to remember you then?
Attempt to put Joe at ease about a quad they want to unload on him.
@@bigospig Spot on.
Better title would have been 'I was lied to when purchasing this quad' and even then not completely provable. A rebuilt YZF quad with aftermarket parts for half the price of listing is a pretty good deal especially if you do the work yourself. Great video as usual.
You should make a check list . With your experience you should make a list to go by, like 5 things that you normally forget to look for. Great videos bro. Keep it up.
Number 1: Check the oil 😂
What are you talking about he got a smoking deal on this quad when he fix it he going make $1500 to $2000 on this quad
When you get more than the seller(multiple friends) trying to help with sale, it's usually a Red flag, guy was a veiwer of yours trying too pull a fast one, Or He and friends Knew what was Wrong and Were testing You😂 anyway Great job as usual, deducing the possible problems, you still ended up on top!👏👏👏
My opinion, judging by the sand and stuff on the piston, is, that it went under water.
I was thinking that same thing when i seen inside that motor. I think its a possibility
Good deal , I would just be the guy that brings a extra battery to see if it starts and see how the idle is and if it smokes and what not , cheers to your and your motivation for wrenching on these
Compression will not decrease on the tester. Unless you press the pressure release button. Not sure how you were watching it to see if it dropped.
Yup, he's still has a ways yo go, but he is getting better.
He is not getting better at what to look for when buying. He never checks any thing. Still a smoking deal.
Just discovered your channel tonight… and watched two of your videos… one thing I noticed is you kick and crank on things way too long.. that obviously aren’t going to start.. and like most people when shits starts you immediately wand to wind it up without letting the motors warm up.. also I always check the air filter when contemplating buying something… if you had you would of seen the mouse seeds and there’s no reason you couldn’t of cracked open the drain bolt to see what came out… especially since it didn’t run… still you got a good deal… anyway I like your channel.. your doing what what I always wanted to do… the buying, fixing up and selling of power sports.. lots of car channels but not a lot of your type… I was hoping you had a KDX200/220 rebuild video.. as I have one but have never rebuilt it.. it probably has 5000 miles on it and still runs perfect… so I’m reluctant to tear it down… last question.. is there a sequel to this video? As I see it’s 11 months old.. I don’t see one.. if there is please post a link.. thanks oh…
Those are maze seeds. Mouse definitely had a little winter stash going on lol . .
$1500?!?! Great price. Even with parts and labor...you should come out ahead
I'm wondering how those seeds got through the carburetor into the combustion chamber. I'm still learning how stuff like this happens
Those are maze seeds and they were a mouses winter stash. They got in the combustion chamber because they didn't check before trying to fire it up and as soon as they cranked on it they were sucked right into the engine.
@prophez23 thanks...I didn't take into account the air/gas that's sucked in on the intake stroke
Hahah. Yeah right. That motor needs top to bottom

There is a decompression mechanism on the cam so maybe check if it’s stuck? You can get cams without decomp too
Love my YFZ 450.
Still a good buy.
**Dude!!!ALERT!!!
That blown cylinder had a coolant port the gasket didn't have.Did you notice the gasket covered the coolant port right next to where the failure occurred???
Lay it back on the head and count the ports...there is your answer.😁👍
For sure!
You should do more videos of full engine rebuilds
You probably want to COMPLETELY rebuild that carburetor as well😬
That can do it to. It might just be low.,or have A bad water pump if it has A radiator on it.
Joe you really need to pull that engine out and split it,run everything through the parts washer and Build her back up with new gaskets and I would probly replace the countershaft seal and the shift shift seal aswell. That nasty oil and particulated matter from the worn piston an cylinder have ran thru the bottom end and I would take a peak at the oil pumps aswell.Do it right the first time so u don't sell it to someone and then they have trouble and you end up having to do the job twice.
ʜɪᴛ ᴍᴇ ᴜᴘ ᴏɴ ᴛᴇʟᴇɢʀᴀᴍ ɪ ɢᴏᴛ sᴏᴍᴇᴛʜɪɴɢ sᴘᴇᴄɪᴀʟ ғᴏʀ ʏᴏᴜ 🎁🎁🎊🎊..
My 660r that's got the 686 stroker kit on it was fun to set with two hot cams and two new race carbs that are a pain to set up, screws underneath, had to buy special tool for it but she rips and starting it, it will pop right off
Was waiting on this one 😅 these yfz videos get a lot of attention 👀🤟🏻
My wife asked me if I'm going to kill somebody again. Because I built my cousin a Ducati monster engine. And it killed him. I said no I just like watching you. Keep up the good work Buddy. 👍
Wow, was not expecting a comment like this. I think we need more of the story of what happened.
God dang, I'm learning so much from these videos.
26:12 I knew it didn’t have any compression from the start because they never did crank it up always get them to crank up anything u buy but don’t buy it if it don’t run but it would be better to do a full rebuild then sell it to get some of your mny and time back u spent working on it
Dude I need to move there that quad in my area would still go for the price he was asking no problem here in Ohio Great buy
you can remove the compression tester Schrader valve and apply air from the air compressor to test valve seal in the combustion chamber

*You’re
i seriously wished i lived in a big country like the US or Canada where i could also make a living on RUclips buying, fixing and selling recreational vehicles. There's a massive market over there and plenty to choose from. I have all the tools and know-how but just don't have access to enough vehicles to make it full time or even part time really. My country is small and the market for quads and bikes is just too small, and so everyone here wants top whack prices for scrap and aren't easy haggled.
Always a great day when 2 vintage posts
It's A blowout head gasket.& Possibly bad water pump back flowing coolant inside of the engine crankcase block port holes.
I love your videos man keep up the good work
I use pretty much same stes as you do when doing initial checkout, I also do a leak down, then compression test.

This just gave me bad flashbacks to my boat . Block cracked in 2 places. One weekend ,JB weld been running great for 6 years..
That is a good buy, I would snatch it up.I wonder if it's got a decompression thing stuck open or something.
Did you just quote exactly what he said? He even said he doesn’t think theirs a decompression valve on it
Joe check the fly wheel moon key on the crankshaft it could be sheard of inside to. Causing it not to start up.& Run again along with having no compression to.,or A bad camshaft one on the top end witch throws the valves off to due that reason alone. Cause they can drop.,or loosen up from having A worn out camshaft inside of the top end to.
Getting scammed by locals really makes me lose faith in my community. Too bad
He should literally say their name and where they are, so nobody has to deal with them. Seems like a fair deal.
@@giraffeapproved I agree with you. But I think that's part of his deal. Joe doesn't try to bash anyone and just sticks to the mechanics.

They dropped it to 1500 if they would have stayed at 2600 then he got scammed otherwise he didnt so STFU. Even if they knew it was milky oil it still could have just been a head gasket or the water pump seal!!!!!! they didnt know the head was cracked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree, poor choice of words on his part, he definitely didn’t get scammed. Seller told him everything he knew, I believe he got a killer deal. No scamming going on here.
You've had all the fun on those tires and engine that wore out after many hours of riding or less hours and neglect. That money is what you paid to have your fun. The next owner will incur their own expenses. Learn to be omnidirectional and drop the one way thinking, it's a bad look.
Well said John 👍

Lol yeah ok buddy .how you are talking he is only person buying quads he knows he rip them kids off big time
@@funtyes1970 no he doesnt the seller knows whats wrong with the bike but the buyer doesnt
A way to weed out the scammers on non running vehicles is ask if you can bring a bore camera. If they are lying they will either say no, tell the truth, or ghost you. Saves you time and headache. If they have no clue about the issue, then if it is messed up severely thats leverage for a cheaper price.
