    i know this video is a year old, but i wanted to say i put my rings for compression on the left and right sides of piston, more in line with the pin because of the forces in the motor front to back are the greatest and possible to scratch and most likely to have play between piston and cylinder. always seemed like a good idea to install left and right.

      it's been proven it makes no difference on a comparison test, but i'd opt for a gentle break in myself. It's a rich man's toy and they always need money chucking in to them with on going maintenance so to be honest i don't think the break in procedure really matters all that much in the scheme of things. With these things you're going to be spending money on it, just how it is.

    MLS gaskets... They are not forgiving when imperfections are present on the deck or cylinder head. They also use Torque To Yield bolts which are not recommended for reuse since they will continue to yield or stretch after installation. That leads to gasket failure due to head lifting during high RPM operation. Since MLS are not forgiving, never use scotch brite or scotch brite wheels on either the deck or cylinder head. The typical procedure is lapping the gasket surfaces in a surface plate with the appropriate grit abrasive.

I'd lower the needle clip 1 setting and make sure the accelerator pump adjustment doesn't have a bunch of slack. Id jet it 1 size richer on pilot and main if the other adjustments don't help. Also you might need a new throttle cable. Shouldn't be more than 2 turns out on the air/fuel. Love the content 👍

      this will be a controversial topic. i've seen so many theories on this i'm left clueless myself. manufacturers usually recommend a gentle break in yet i've seen a study done where they built two new engines, one was broken in gently and the other was no break in, ran for the same amount of hours and then compression tested and dismantled to check for wear and the condition of the cross hatching.. conclusion... no difference. So i dunno.

    • @2vintage
      @2vintage  Год назад +6

      You need to be blipping the throttle when breaking it in. That's why I was varying the revs. This is what I was told. Not sure which way to break in is best. I've never had a problem doing them this way.

While it was apart you can pull the drain bolt and pour a bit of kerosine through it till it run clean, then fill with oil run just till it’s warm and drain again and see what you have. In some ways I’d rather buy the lower gasket kit and just clean it out

    It does sound like it’s leaning out randomly. Idling up like that is a pretty good sign that it’s starving for what gas it can pick up if it’s happening at random.

    That revving at idle and backfire when the throttle is released tells me there's probably an air leak somewhere. Check the carb boot. Thought the throttle return spring might have become weak 'till I heard the backfiring.

    If you add a little bit of Marvel's mystery oil at every oil change for the next 2 or 3 oil changes it will get rid of the moisture in the oil

    My TRX 450r started idling weird like that. Really randomly jumping around. WOT it ran perfect. It ended up being a fray in the throttle cable. New cable and it ran like new.

    My 05 quad did the same thing with the idle jumping around. It turned out to be the person I got it from put the slide in upside down. Flipped it over and it ran perfectly.
