    I do a lot of engine repair work as a hobbyist and a straight edge is your friend in situations like this. Use your feeler gauge and a straight edge and you can easily identify low spots in the cylinder/head/block without guessing where the issue is.

    Its a good idea to sand the head and cylinder surface on 600 grit sandpaper wet lying on a piece of flat glass to find the bad spots in the surface. If they arent that bad you can sand them flat without hurting anything. following a figure 8 pattern will make sure you wont create any high spots or low spots.

    If you get any 5 valve Yamaha you wanna keep or that needs intake valves, put stainless valves in place of the Ti ones and you'll never have to adjust them again. I can't understand the push for titanium valves for just that tiny bit of hp gain. My raptor needed valves after like 100hrs. Couldn't believe it. Put stainless cheap ones in it and rode it many years before I sold it. Now at the shop, If I pull a head off a 5v Yamaha, it's getting stainless. The water pump is what caused those issues with that four wheeler Joe. The impeller is worn out.,or there is A missing key way.,or moon key.,or the pump bearing is just shot out inside of that water pump altogether. Most likely it was the original one on it from the factory when it was sold new to.,or A replacement one that went bad over time to either one. It happens a lot on those types of engines though from Yamaha.& Suzuki & Honda & Polaris to all of them do it.

    Maybe check the height of the aftermarket rod, you noticed the piston looked high compared to the top of the cylinder. These engines are ready to pumped up and made too light weight for longevity. The Cylinder wall is too thin. Maybe look into detune it. (Lowering compression) ? And resurface the head!

I’m pretty sure he did say that he did change the oil in it though and if you listen in the video when you was asking him questions I don’t no about you but I could tell that he was lying about something!!! Why do people have to lye about something when they are selling something???? It definitely happens every day though!!!! There is a LOT more to this story from the seller that you aren't getting. Who puts all of this extra stuff on this quad, sells it under his price and has all of this "mystery" stuff wrong with it? I call BS. He obviously knew what was wrong with it and changed the oil minutes before you got there so you would not know. No coolant would be the next clue. bottom line: seller lied.

    • @malcolmlester4585
      @malcolmlester4585 Год назад +2

      he was probably pissed at the seller who sold it to him lol...joe...and it didnt really get him anywhere as he had to sell it cheap anyway back to joe, and of course it would run out of coolant with a blown head gasket which looks to be caused by joes rebuild before he sold it. I dont beleive for a minute that joe thought there was anything wrong with the quad when he sold it to the guy he brought it back from but if he did only use it a few times i feel joe should do the right thing and fix it correctly this time and sell it back to him for what he got for it.

    Seems to be he was trying to take someone for their money by changing oil and removing most of the coolant. I did that once on my camaro with blown head gasket because it wouldn't start with antifreeze in the cylinder. I didn't do it to fool a buyer though just to get it 1/2 mile home.
