    I would like to say congratulations on how hard you work Chris on a daily basis and I that everyone that follows your channel agrees with my statement.
    I’m totally blown away by how well you use your time in reference to this job and the road build…..your amazing Chris and a fantastic role model for all those people out there thinking about starting in that trade.

      @Mr. Avuncular your exactly right. Couldn’t have said it better myself. It’s either that or its in our blood and been there since first time on equipment wearing diapers. Got the gifts and talents threw elders before us.
      Yeah I guess what you did was and wiser way to put it lol🤦‍♂️ I’ll just go back to digging and keep my head down😞

      @Mr. Avuncular I wasn’t raise quite to that degree. We listened and respected elders. Parents let some things slide but around other family’s or our grandparents, we was on our best behavior. I remember going to work with grandpa helping pour concrete and lay brick and block. After work is when I got to get on the equipment. Work first then play. Good luck getting kids these days to do that.

    Chris is so good at narrating what he's doing he should start another channel "Cooking with Chris"! He can teach people to cook traditional NC/SC dishes.

    I just wish I could get hold of some of what you're sending for pulp wood & "borderline" saw logs.
    I'd happily put it through the bandsaw, then air dry it for a couple of years to save paying the insane prices for 4x2 & 6x2 here in the UK.

    I envy you. I wished I'd have gotten trained to operate heavy equipment. I was a forklift operator extraordinaire, but that's a long ways from operating heavy equipment. I think I would've been good at it and I would've thoroughly enjoyed working outside. I'm retired now, so now I watch this channel to satisfy my fantasy. I guess I should say, "I dig this channel." Lol

    Trivia .... We have a sweet gum yard tree. We had a locust year last year. That gum tree was covered with locust shells ...3 times as many as the other tree's. I guess locusts prefer sweet gum to put their eggs in.,,

    It looks a lot better. I suggested that for the dredging job you have. Cut limbs 10 feets and under off, and weed out anything plus small trees that will never be anything, give it that private golf course look. CA never go wrong with thinning out the woods

    Thank you for this video. I saw you do an amazing thing awhile ago where you dug a deep hole (a barrow or burro pit?) with the top part sloped out and it seemed to work really well. I wonder if you will do that here down by the pond?

    I dig a small hole in the ground with a shovel and don’t have enough dirt to fill the hole. You dig up a huge tree and have enough dirt to fill the crater left.

    Do you have problems with the dirt settling where the stumps were ? Or dose the dozer root raking and grading take care of it ?

      They can settle over time I normally like to let stuff sit for a few months and settle out before fine grading

    What is the best way to go money wise for land owner? Cut down trees and you dig up stumps or you knock down, cut up. Has to with property size?

    I guess its just not good timber there in florida.. I only see mostly pulp wood going down the roads there.... kinda curious as to a value of a load of pulp or saw logs... will it pay for it to be trucked or just burn it?

    Living in Canada I’d never heard of a “Sweetgum tree”. Upon research, I’m so gad we don’t have them here. They sound like a nasty pain in the %#$&!

    I am disappointed that you didn’t take us into the woods for marking the trees. You said that you didn’t want to drag all that stuff with you yet I felt robbed of the chance to see and hear the criteria on outlining an area for the loggers along with how (and why) you select certain trees to be saved.

    has the price gone up for the logs or has it stayed the same i was wondering since fuel prices are going sky high and with the supply chain problems i'd think it would of gone up

      @@letsdig18 that blows I realize that they have operrating costs too that have gone up but they takes the logs process them turn them into lumber and i'm sure the price they sell the lumber for has not gone down if anything i'd imagine it has gone up i saw somebody on another page made a double dipping comment about a mulch yard that charged for taking in brush that they grind up and resell and said well that's not right for doing that some people I just don't understand their thinking

      @@letsdig18 According to the latest quarterly report for North Carolina,. average prices per ton of the major wood categories have gone up except for Pine pulpwood which is down 7.2% from Q4 21. The Q1 22 reported average prices / ton were,
      Pine pulpwood $9.98
      Pine chip-N-saw $23.46
      Pine sawtimber $30.52 (or $228.90 per 1000 bd. ft)
      Hardwood pulpwood $8.23
      Mixed hardwood sawtimber $32.55
      Oak sawtimber $49.23 (or $430.76 per 1000 bd. ft)
      conversions for saw logs were 7.5 tons per 1000 bd. ft for pine and 8.75 tons per 1000 bd. ft for hardwood sawtimber.

      @@mrtowmonsterRaw sawlog prices in NC have gone up a lot since last quarter (Q4 21). Mixed Hardwood logs are up 13.5% and Oak is up 8.0%. So yeah, hardwood lumber retail prices are really going to go up given inflation and transportation prices. Softwood logs have only gone up 2%. If you have property with lots of mature Oak, buy a portable sawmill and cash in.

    I guess you are having to saw and do everything like myself. I cant find drivers, saw men or operators. I got 3 road tractors and two 210 komatsu's and bunch of other stuff. I've been in Clearing and Demolition since 04. your thoughts

      Yes, the angle is not quite right. Move the controls forward / seat back. Trouble is these machines are built for an average operator

    Seems to me by the time the loggers have done & you've had to come in to stump & root rake, it would cost less if you were given the job of clearing the whole thing this way, especially if Mr B gets his "free labour" to clear out the small stuff.
