  • In this August 2018 adventure, we travel to Audrain County, Missouri and fish the new TRD MinnowZ and Finesse BulletZ Jig Heads that made their debut at ICAST 2018. 3.5" TRD MinnowZ come in 10 colors and are excellent as a Ned Rig or drop shot. They have a buoyant, hollow body with no salt and the ElaZtech plastic makes them nearly indestructible. The Finesse BulletZ Jig Heads come in four sizes (1/15, 1/10, 1/6 and 1/5 oz) and essentially make finesse lures snag-proof and virtually weedless. The TRD MinnowZ & 1/15 oz Finesse BulletZ jig head combo was excellent and caught a goodly number of bass. Verdict: These are two great new products from the folks at Z-Man. Both are available now at zmanfishing.com or at fine tackle stores. Enjoy the show!

    Don, I'm just blown away by your fishing success! Your outing was like a day I dream of with cloudy skies, comfortable temperatures, and fish on almost every cast! You've got me all charged up to get those anti weed and brush Finesse BulletZ. The TRD MinnowZ was a real champ too, ideally suited to the BulletZ! One of these days I'll get one of those clickable counters. If I never catch enough fish to make it worthwhile while angling, I can always use it to count my double-digit-per-hole golf scores! Thanks so much for taking us along to Audrain County so that we could share in your super fishing adventure! It was great fun! All the best to you, Brenda, and sister, Lorraine! - - John & Jeanne

      John, thank you and I knew the TRD minnowz and Finesse Bulletz would catch your attention and imagination. The 1/15 oz BulletZ were ideal for depth to 10-15 feet. I've tested the 1/10 oz successfully, too, and have applications in mind for the 1/6 & 1/5 oz sizes. Those TRD minnowz are hollow, very buoyant and the 'stand up' action really made them a do-nothing little killer in this well stocked bass lake. I threw the jigs in brush and trees and caught lots and lots of bass wuthout a single hang up or break off. I'm predicting, right now (write this down!) that the BulletZ will positively change Ned Rigging forever. In fact, I already have a "screenplay" concept in mind to show just how well they will pair up with all sorts of other Elaztech finesse lures as well as conventional plastisols. Ah, may fun never end till the gas tank runs dry...ha! Lots of RAIN here recently; we need it as the deficit was about a foot. Teaser: after you see my next video, you won't be able to resist throwing the Bulletz/Prop B lure combo in Lake K. I'm going to send you some "Prop B" lures in a day or two...stop arguing. ;) Don

    Great video Don! Do ya still use the minnowz nowaaday? Do you rhink its better than the 2.75 trd especially for ned rig?

    • @Winkiedoodles
      @Winkiedoodles  Год назад +1

      Thanks Lemontree, much appreciated. After testing probably all of the 2.75" Elaztech line that has been introduced in the past four years or so, I believe that the TRD is still king of the hill. I don't think I've used the TRD MinnowZ since Hula Stickz came out. However, for several years I used a TRD MinnowZ mod I called "Minnerz" and it was fantastic for panfish. In my opinion, "Minnerz" rivaled a lot of the new Micro Finesse lures. For simplicity and convenience, I'll probably put down the scissors and super glue and go with the new Micro Finesse lures (and the great Micro Finesse jigheads) for most of my future panfishing excursions. The "oh wow- new stuff- sold out" wave should settle down by next spring on the Micro Finesse line and more colors will be available on Z-man's website. Below freezing nighttime temps have arrived (and we are moving) so it's hard to predict if more excursions (bass or crappie) are upcoming. Have a blessed week, Don

    Another great video. I was going to pick up some Finesse BulletZ jigs for sure, but I am now going to try these TRD MinnowZ. Thanks for sharing and giving us a nice close up of these.

      Bobby, you're very welcome and seeing is believing here in the Show-Me state. I've since used some other colors of the TRD minnowz and they also work good. The next challenge is to test the TRD Crawz in the right place to demonstrate these little killers' abilities. The Bulletz open up a whole new world of possibilities. I'm releasing a video today where I mount one of my creations on a BulletZ...pow! This fall and next spring should be very exciting. Don

    Nice video as usual Don! Just got all my TRD MinnowZ and TRD CrawZ in last week! They are amazing! These Finesse BulletZ jig heads are a game changer (as much as I dislike using that term)! I usually snag everything in the lake and these have really helped a ton! I've also been using the Lifted Jigs Ned EWG jig heads with success as well. They have a 1/0 VMC hook and if you put some glue on everything holds on pretty well although not quite as well as the Finesse BulletZ.

      Bry, thanks a lot; the TRD minnowz/Bulletz rig speaks for itself...great addition to the Z-man line up. It will be very interesting to see how spectacular these rigs work in the fall and spring frenzies. The TRD Crawz also hold great promise and it will be fun to see them work in a good fishery where small craws are the main menu. Agree that the Bulletz will change Ned Rigging forever; bye bye super glue. I'm so impressed that I filled a special lure box with Z-Man finesse lures that I've Texas rigged in the past to fish them in weeds and brush. I'm betting that "BulletZ-izing" will be great for future videos. Let me know how you do with the new toys! Don

    • @Winkiedoodles
      @Winkiedoodles  6 лет назад

      Thanks, Ed. Glad you enjoyed the show. There's two little "eye" bumps on the nose so I just oriented the minnowz with the tail up and down. With different colored minnowz it is very easy to see which way is up. Don

    Looks good. I still have never caught anything on the TRD yet. I just need to get out there and fish them more,and it will happen. I have caught some dinky bass on Zman finesse worms,on a shakey head recently though. My first ever shakey head fish! I have been trying to figure out what hook to use for rigging the TRD tube weedless,and weightless. Years ago I used to throw tube baits weedless without any weight,onto pads for bass. The TRD tubes are shorter than the tubes I used years ago,and I need a hook that is short,but has a wide enough gap. I'm going to try using a bigger sized finesse hook,with a wide gap. Maybe 3/0 or 4/0. Good luck!

      Thanks, SGT P. If there ever were a jig/lure combo that would be a guaranteed winner for folks new to the Ned Rig scene, it would be the rig in this video. I'm using a decent spin combo, 8 lb test. With the lightest weight BulletZ jig head, the lure can be fished in real shallow (almost on the bank) to an optimum depth of 10-12 ft. Basically all you need is the right time of year, a decent bass lake and the ability to fish off shore, back towards the bank. Around here we are in the middle of the bad fishing "summer doldrums" and still this little rig was a killer. Don't give up on the Ned rig and these new weedless Bulletz will change everything for vhf the better. Don

    I see you've used several TRD products in other videos. Do you have a favorite? Do you use different ones for specific situations? I've had good success with the standard TRD worm, but after watching this, I might have to buy some minnows!

    • @Winkiedoodles
      @Winkiedoodles  6 лет назад

      Thanks William. There are now four to choose from in The Real Deal family: original TRD, TRD Tubez, TRD Hogz and now TRD Minnowz. They all obviously work well. If it were possible to choose a favorite, the TRD TubeZ have been responsible for a considerable number of much larger fish than the rest, but in terms of numbers, all work about the same. If I am fishing in grass or weeds I will usually use the TubeZ or HogZ. Best wishes, Don

    Good video Don. Couple questions if I may:
    1) What kind of rod are you using? What action?
    2) Do you set the hook as soon as you feel the hit?
    I've had good success slow rolling the trd tubes for bass and crappie but I seem to miss a lot of hits with the new trd crawz. Not sure if I need to let them run more or get a stiffer rod? Any suggestions?

    • @aaronshafer5513
      @aaronshafer5513 6 лет назад

      Hey Don, I had the same question as David. Are you able to get away with using a medium action rod. I was thinking you might be using a medium heavy rod to effectively set the hook . I have never had much luck with hook-sets on a medium rod. This video answered all my suspicions about the new BulletZ jig head. Looks like we can finally drag our Ned rigs around the structure without working about snags!

    • @Winkiedoodles
      @Winkiedoodles  6 лет назад

      David, thanks and glad you enjoyed the show. 1. I'm using a Quantum Tour KVD signature series rod, 7'4", Medium action. 2. Yes. When I feel the 'tap', I will take up the slack and put the hammer down. Watch for fish just picking up the lure and swimming off (no tap at all) and when that happens do the same - take up slack/set technique. With finesse lures (and I'm also using MegaStrike attractant), I think they longer they hold onto them the more likely it is that they will swallow the lure and make it harder or impossible to extract. TRD CrawZ. I've not completed a review of them due to rain, but used a day or so ago with a typical Ned-style lift-glide-drop retrieve on a 1/10th oz Finesse BulletZ. Again, bass either 'tapped' or just picked up the lure and swam off....and again I used the same take up slack-hammer down hookset. Hook ups were good, as expected, since I was using a 7' 6" MH BPS Exteme rod. The 'short strikes' you are experiencing are likely just a summer phenomenon where the fish get finnicky. I recently kept getting short struck on 3" Slim SwimZ and switched to the much smaller 2.5" ones only to catch bluegill that were just yanking the tail of the bigger lure. Keep fishing like normal through the doldrums until the fall frenzy arrives. Let me know how it goes. Don

      James, thanks for watching the show and asking about line size. On medium action rigs like the one in this video I will use 8 lb mono or fluoro. On Medium Heavy rigs I use 10 lb mono or fluoro - or - on occasion, 15 or 30 lb braid. On casting reels I use braid or 10 lb, mostly fluoro. Happy holidays, Don

      Dan, you won't go wrong. I'd seen the TRD minnowz on the website when they were called Rain MinnowZ but never paid any attention to them...yikes, was that a mistake.
