      They didn’t use anything from Ubisoft to rebuild Notre Dame. It was suggested, but not done. In reality the building has lots of missing details, including an entire wing/part of the cathedral that’s just straight up not in Unity. It’s still a really impressive recreation though, just not true that it was so accurate that the restoration crews used material from Unity to rebuild.

    There's something about Colonial America in AC3 that always grabs me in how authentic it feels as opposed to being vibrant or lively as some of the other settings in the franchise. The Frontier in was very reminiscent of the Kingdom from AC1. Compared to most nature oriented open-worlds, it always felt a lot more grounded and dynamic with its NPC's and events, which always drew me back to it whenever I replay. In the Black Hills section of the map, you could literally parkour amongst the trees for long stretches of time and see the beauty that really shines through in the remaster. Along with the beautiful Winter setting which really brings everything to life even more.

    • @1woozy
      @1woozy 8 месяцев назад +2

      I agree. It truly felt like the devs wanted an authentic approximation of the setting in AC3 and not a sandbox that just catered to what players had come to expect (i.e. sprawling high buildings, rooftops and 'exotic' sights). Like they chose Revolutionary America and then went full-send when it came time to flesh it out, doing their best with the tech available to them at the time. It sets the game apart from the ones before it and makes for a very immersive experience.

    For me what also gave personallity to those games with its first entries was the crowd and all the social stealth that came with it. I liked how you had to pay attention to the crowd when traversing cities:
    - Walking quickly at the risk of bumping with someone holding a vase/crate and breaking your stealth approach or walking slower but making sure you avoid NPCs.
    - Running quickly at the risk of bumping into someone and falling or running slower but making sure to push people away and not get slowed down.
    - In AC1, avoid crazy people who will shove you aside, breaking your stealth approach.
    Alongside the recruitable NPCs we got with AC2 (courtesans, mercenaries, thieves), all those things brought some personality to the world and unique mechanics to the game. I was sad when, starting with AC3, the character would automatically run at full speed and remove civilians from his way, it just made the crowd part of the decor now, like any building, instead of having it be a "character" of its own to pay attention to.

      @@1woozy That depends what you could as world. If you talk about just models/textures/placement of things, AC1 of course should be low. But if we start counting as part of it world building, setup, timeframe you play in history, AC1 suddenly jumps to top because you cannot really beat crusades, real templars, real assassins and their attempts of authenticity (we removed crossbow!). Like AC1 health bar is not health bar - it is synchronization bar with ancestor - because no one would really survive getting hit with sword that hard. Not to mention game even adresses some inconsistency with history in game (like anyone can write book etc.). Like the giant snake skeleton near Delphi as a reference to to Apollo killing a snake so that Delphi gets it’s clairvoyant ability. Or the giant statue of Athena on the Akropolis which was destroyed almost a thousand years ago. And Valhalla’s huge forest with fog etc really adds an almost supernatural factor to the game. But if I had to choose I’d always pick Ancient Greece

    Now this list is different, that's what we love to see. Finally someone who's not glazing the Ezio line, instead put one of the most hated parts into the first 3 place. • @abtronos
    @abtronos Месяц назад +3

    I agree with the top 3, but for me, the order would be Origins, Unity, and Odyssey. The problem with Origins is that when I played it, I thought the missions would take me through all the regions of the map, but that wasn’t the case. I reached the end and still had many parts of the map left to explore, and when I did, I realized most of it was just desert. Unity would easily be the best if it weren’t for the online or co-op missions. They couldn’t be played solo or weren’t played in the historical order they should have been. If this were fixed to follow the chronological story, the world would be better understood, and the game itself would easily be the best. Odyssey is by far the best, haha. I love it. I love Greece. The missions make you go everywhere, they add everything accomplished from previous games, it’s simply such a fun game in such a well-crafted world.

    My comfort game still is Origins...My god, it has something, Egypt here must be the best open world ever in videogames, it's just perfect.
    I played and won Black Flash like 12 times, always in %100 completition... Revelations like 7 times, Unity almost 8, AC2 more than 10, thought I was done when Syndicate came out (like it but idk, felt strange)...
    Until Origins came out, man...I loved Origins since the first time, I did not want the game to end, since it came out I played it completely 6 times, love Bayek, love the map, still think Origins Egypt is unmatched.

    I actually think every AC game has had solid settings in terms of time period and location... The historical figures are another story however, and the characters especially in more recent games' side stories act badly out of place for their time periods. The modern/meta humor in Valhalla was easily the worst part of the game.

    Valhalla is not one of the best AC game, But the world of AC Valhalla is one of the best. I would put it under top 5 at least. As for AC unity, the game is stunning but there is very less variety compared to other worlds. I would put it under top 5 as well but i don't think it deserves number 1.

      I would personally go Syndicate honestly. You're already doing Odyssey which is big open world try Syndicate since it's the last I will say traditional style of AC games. Plus London is beautiful and the rope launcher is honestly one of my favorite things in the series. It's a time saver and gliding the distances is fun for me to watch.

    One thing about AC origins i love is if you go to the cave where Layla is doing her shit. Bayek tells you thats where him and Amunet first fell in love and perhaps they should end it there too. Giving that location a whole different tone.

  • @Twiggi
    @Twiggi 6 месяцев назад +1

    I agree with Valhalla. Ravensthorpe and surrounding area is amazing honestly, one of my favourite area across the whole series, tho the further away from it you go the more empty it gets. To the point where you find yourself just going from collectible/mystery to next one. It has authentic and fitting vibes, but thats about it. Realistic? Yes, but there is a fine line between realism and enjoyment. Its really weird when you think about Odyssey and Valhalla are very similar in terms of the size and exploration, yet in Odyssey it feels so much better. Maybe controversial take here, but its like taking Origins and Odyssey and taking the worst aspects of it and merging it into one.

    Unity was not only the worst AC game. Its city was boring. The game mechanics are terrible. This dude has Valhalla last and Unity first. I can't even begin to compute that. in my opinion my enjoyment of the games comes down to how interested I am in the history of the setting, as an Irishman the American revolution doesn't interest me too much but classical Greece baffles me, at this point the whole assassin/templar thing has gone over my head and it's just a history sim at this stage!

    i would critique your 1st choice:
    1.) there is no negative spaces like in origins, the negative spaces are good for an AC game, and the unitys world desigh is terreble, you do not get a sense of discoverey,
    2.) it does not take place during the entirety of the french revolutuion, it only happens within one city, other places of france is fascinatong for the french revolution.
    3.) the city is crowded, which is annoying for many people who want to traverse the world.
    4.) the city is dull with monotone colours and dull atmosphere.

    I feel Syndicate (with Unity as second place) deserves the best ac world only for the fact that it FINALLY felt 1:1 scale... The buildings are big, the monuments massive! Climb them is so satisfying, and it shadows so much the other games' scale. For example, climbing San Marco's bell tower in Venice with Ezio was awesome... But then when I went there in real life I realized how big and LARGE it was that pillar (10/15 people at least, while in the game was large like 5/6 ezios)
    This just changed all for me, I now see worlds in games in a totally different way

    Before the rpg games, the ambience was perfect. But ever since origins, I feel so compelled to explore and experience each area of the map. Valhalla nailed that for me specially with the way the leveling lines up so well with the next arc. It felt so seamless. Before the RPGs every city felt like a themed climbing puzzle a little else. AC4 was the best in this regard before Origins. I would really like them to go back to the old AC style, but expansive maps with many diverse regions is something that we should keep from the RPGs.

  • @dan5698

    I have noticed a resurgence and somewhat of a redemption for unity recently which is great to hear. Also after the Notre Dame was almost destroyed in 2019 the architects actually used and referenced Assassins Creed Unity to help plan the restoration and Ubisoft even donated to the restoration efforts which is really cool.
