    0:12 A hypothyroid condition
    0:25 Why this is all related
    1:02 What you can do
    In this video, we’re going to talk about thyroid function and the thyroid and estrogen connection.
    Women with a hypothyroid condition typically have difficult period symptoms. This is related because of an estrogen dominance situation. High estrogen inhibits the thyroid gland. This happens with pregnancy as well.
    What to do:
    • Avoid soy
    • Get plenty of cruciferous vegetables
    • Support your ovaries

    Hi Dr.Berg, I just stumbled on your channel and love how well you explain complex concepts in more simplistic terms for us common folks. Could you consider making section or a video about changes in our bodies during peri menopause and what we do to alleviate some of the symptoms naturally? Thank you!

    started supplementing biotine+selenium, wheatgrass and iodine a month ago. having suffered for 21 years ( since age 10), i finally found something thats working.
    lost 9/10 pounds, my neck is visibly thinner and my mood changed from rather depressed to like i was before i got hashimotos.
    just had my cycle : 0 pain at all, for the first time ever.

    • @clarebirschel4100
      @clarebirschel4100 6 лет назад +5

      rdmname can you explain what you actually did? I am really interested in natural remedies. I have always been slim and have put on about 20-22 lbs in the last nine months due to hypothyroid. My dr says it's "not bad enough" to treat - so have I just to wait until I am obese? Thanks 😊

    • @rdmname
      @rdmname 6 лет назад +8

      im not a doctor just a nurse :D
      i did what i did cause theres been nothing to lose, having hashimotos for more than 20 years.
      its different for every person i guess but iodine is not "evil" as every doctor tells you.
      for me it just worked, supplementing biotine to lower estrogen and iodine in form of seakelp to fill up the burned out iodine stores.
      now, 3 months later with a very casual workout, i gained weight but look much, much thinner than before.
      from european 38/40 to 36.
      but if you have to workout or not also depends on your genes, i dont need to workout much, as i and my whole family are able to eat everything and anything without gaining weight, for me always only in theory (no longer just in theory).
      also, i no longer feel such pain when im getting my period, in fact i barely notice.
      just discuss it with your dr., inform yourself at dr. bergs page beforehand so you wont end up without arguments

    • @clarebirschel4100
      @clarebirschel4100 6 лет назад +11

      rdmname Btw I am a nurse...please don't ever say you're "just a nurse", most of the time I feel I have have done WAY more for my health than doctors. Endocrinologists where I live (in Scotland) are hopeless and don't care...
      Anyway, just looked up biotine I wasn't aware it's supportive for hormone/oestrogen - it can't hurt, can it? I did take powdered sea kelp in smoothies before but stopped (can't remember why). Is this the best way to take it? And how much? I also just got some nori sheets, I think they are supposed to be good.
      Honestly, I am getting desperate. I have B12 deficiency, adrenal dysfunction and now this. No doctor is at all interested in helping or making me well, I am miserable. Three years ago, I was a fit, active, slim 49 yr old - now I am fat, exhausted middle aged woman. It's not the life I want. Appreciate you replying 😊

    • @rdmname
      @rdmname 6 лет назад +1

      ive got the seakelp in pill-form from britain per amazon (im german though).
      as many women take biotine for their hair and nails, i cant imagine that it could hurt :D
      the seakelp has, i think, 250 mikrograms of iodineand the wheatgrass should help with the vitamine deficiencies.
      my mother also started to gain a bit of weight in her late 40´s/ early 50´s, thats not uncommon even for slim people.
      at first its been stressful and a pure nightmare in her opinion, but she got used to having a few pounds more and actually looks like a normal human being since then.

    • @clarebirschel4100
      @clarebirschel4100 6 лет назад +2

      rdmname thanks for replying I'm certainly going to look into all this. I don't believe 23lbs is a few pounds I am overweight. I have rolls of fat all round my stomach and now finding it difficult to tie my shoelaces and wash my feet. I gained 3 lbs in the last two weeks that's not normal! I eat a super healthy, whole food plant based diet - I should be loosing weight! I am only just over 5 foot and weigh 71kg (11st 2lb). I have been 58-60kg all my adult life and this is not normal. It really is not in my mind. I feel very embarrassed about talking to patients about healthy eating when I look this way. None of my clothes fit me, it's awful 😢

    Dear Dr Berg
    I want to thank you for all your videos.
    They are enlightening and, more importantly, empowering.
    Women want to understand what goes on in their body, not just swallow pills and undergo surgery with their fingers crossed.
    Most RUclips videos about estrogen, iodine and the thyroïd gland are meant for people with low thyroïd function (hypothyroïdism).
    I have Graves disease and a huge fibroïd (that I intend to shrink by any means necessary.)
    I would really appreciate it if you took the time to adress the interactions between thyroïd, estrogens and iodine from the perspective of hyperthyroïdism and, if possible, graves disease.
    Gratefully yours,
    Catherine

I'm on thyroxin 75mg but on the other hand I have osteopenia that effects me a lot.. I find it really hard to complete my daily tasks as well.. I'm 36 now but I'm surrounded by so many problems in my body .. what is the first thing I must do to normalize my body get a regular period and pregnancy... pls help

    I have hypothyroidism and went into it with pregnancy. Years later I found I couldn't eat estrogenic foods like carrots or beets, otherwise I would get vertical lines on my upper lip. I see your cruciferous formula and recognized that cooked broccoli really helped get rid of the vertical lines and maintain a youthful appearance. Though would a high dose of cruciferous veggies such as your supplement be make hypothyroidism worse?
    Regarding your ovary support- my nperiods are scanty with very little blood because of anemia issues I have. What would you recommend for someone like me who suffers through insomnia for the 5 days approaching the period?

    What about taking a wild yam progesterone cream to balance the estrogen? As progesterone is lowered with even stress, it seems likely that between a diet high in estrogen's and a stressful life that we all have, it is inevitable that we would be estrogen dominant.
    I am curious why after pregnancy postpartum thyroiditus comes on? I would guess it is also an imbalance with the progesterone and estrogen, which the cream balances. I had it, and am on the cream now for it, and I think it is going away.

    I have hypothyroid. I had 4 surgeries to remove multiple fibroids from my ovaries. After the first surgery, I was able to get pregnant. I was diagnosed with thyroid years later. Could these fibroids be the cause of my thyroid problems? I am on medication and have to take multiple supplements. I am also anemic and have to take iron every day. My system does not seem to hold on to the iron. Do you have any suggestions?

    • @a.sweetpeac.2281
      @a.sweetpeac.2281 5 лет назад +1

      My naturopathic doctor (NMD, she went to an accredited medical school) said Fibroids are due to a deficiency in Progesterone. Thyroid hormone helps with Progesterone production, so if you are Hypo (less hormones) it makes sense your Progesterone would be low. If you have anemia, it might be being caused by the Hypothyroidism causing heavy periods. This would cause you to lose enough blood & iron to then deplete your Iron Stores, called "Ferritin", which then requires iron supplementation. I am in this situation right now as well. My thyroid meds were recently reduced because I accidentally took it the day of the test, which causes me to be more Hypothyroid, have high estrogen (estrogen dominance), Progesterone Deficiency, & Anemia from the bleeding. I hope this helps!

      Soy is going to boost the estrogen.

      Why?

    • @zerothehero123

      Because of the fyto-estrogens in soy. They're basically bio identical hormones in plants. You will also find them in beer, alfalfa and many more plants.

    I'm still having a unbelievable heavy period at 53 yrs old. I had my thyroid removed 3 yrs ago and lost almost all my hair so I wear wigs. I had no idea about the correlation between estrogen and the blocking of the hormone. Are there any specialist in NY who knows about this link rhat I can consult. The meds I'm taking doesnt seem to help.

      I'm 50 and newly diagnosed with endometrial carcinoma. I have been hypothyroid all my life. Heavy periods and huge clots. What I have recently found is that low thyroid creates the estrogen to increase without enough progesterone which can create hyperplasia, thickening of the uterus lining. This can make you high risk for this cancer. Don't assume that heavy period with huge clots is normal. Get checked soon!

      The simple solution for me is Iodoral iodine tablets. I’m 52 and still have normal periods, only a low amount of hair loss. It seems so simple yet so profound. It’s all in “Iodine CRISIS” book 📕 by Lynne Farrow + Dr. Brownstein. Nothing to lose by reading the book reviews 1st, right? or checking out IodineForum on Facebook.
