    • @ookiemand
      @ookiemand 5 лет назад +2

      It's a reference to the hilarious Camera Conspiracy's channel.I disagree with accepting non perfection, perfection is a (shifting) end goal. An end that never will be reached, but one can get very close. However Panasonic and other could have given us a more perfect camera combining the features they already have done before, like the bloody flippy screen. To us consumers it's very frustrating to always see the camera companies doing so many things right, but simply failing to do some basics, like having simple and intuitive menu's, a fully articulating screen, non hunting CAF, 2 cardslots, decent battery life, full size hdmi, audio ports, decent weather sealing etc. It's like the camera companies are affraid we won't by the next models if they offer a feature Complete camera instead of always feature lacking camera's they've done.
      I hope that in the future with 3d printing we can design and assemble our own tools, to our liking.

      Yeah, full-frame Foveon and ART lenses are what draw me to the L Mount Alliance. The prospect of M lenses on Foveon is appealling.

    The lenses of the new Nikon Z, Canon R and Panasonic S1 camera are going to be significantly more expensive than similar lenses for full frame dSLR cameras.
    The first Sony lenses for the α7 series were more expensive than similar full frame dSLR lenses too. However recently there is a significant drop of price for the most SONY full frame FE e-mount lenses of the 2013-2014 period.
    Eventually everything will stabilize.

    Thanks for the great feedback on both of these cameras. I shoot both photos and video with the GH5 and GH5s, depending on what the wildlife decides to do in the moment. I'm thinking of getting the S1R to make the most of my older Nikon 300/400 f2.8 lenses for photos, but I don't want to lose the ability to capture good 4K video if some great behavior starts. Although I've heard that the S1R uses pixel-binning in full-frame 4K, I don't know how that really translates to a degraded 4K image... Can you give me some idea of what I might expect compared to 4K with the GH5? Thanks for any info you can provide.

Disappointment, weighing double It's like a brick compared to the Sony A7 III, poor battery (half as much as Sony), the same problem hunting the back subject with autofocus contrast, 225 vs 693 (sony) focus point, is more expensive than Sony with 500$. That's why I buy a Peak design strap and pull it tight enuf so that I can put my hand at an angle to hold it even with my arm straight down. You can let your fingers go totally loose. Also, get a spider holster & your back & shoulders will thank you. Don't expect any camera to meet your every whims out of the box. You must use half your budget or more on lenses and accessories to have a good time using it.

  • @ChrispyArt
    @ChrispyArt 5 лет назад +3

    OBVIOUSLY the AF might be an issue in Video, but even for photos I would find the short pulsing irritating and uncomfortable to look at through the EVF.
    What good is 5.6 Million dots if you look at a pulsating view of your model when you take those portraits for example?

    • @williamburkholder769
      @williamburkholder769 5 лет назад +2

      Most of the videographers who will complain about the CDAF are video bloggers who review cameras, and amateurs who want everything in life to be automated! Professional filmmakers don't use AF very often. They set up their scenes and record them methodically, pulling focus manually as needed. The manual focus assist on Panasonic cameras, and the OLED touch screen drag focus, are great features.
      And, as Chris said many times, this is pre-production firmware. Performance on all fronts will most likely be refined several times before the second generation is released. I would expect some new features to be added at a future date as well, because I received a few pleasant surprises through GH4 firmware upgrades.

    Chris commented on how uncomfortable his fingers were after holding the camera for a few hours. I'm not surprised given the weight of the camera and lens combination. Indeed, the latest FF lenses in particular are so big and heavy that I believe, that once the love-in for FF is over, many photographers will "suddenly" rediscover the joy of smaller APS-C and MFT lenses and glasses. So long as you shoot at less than ISO 1600, even an MFT sensor and produce seriously good images printed to 30". Just check out this comparison between the E-M1X and Sony A9 (@ 35mins) ruclips.net/video/ypUU3lbaH4M/видео.html

      I actually don't mind the heavier FF cameras & lenses and they definitely help with stability. For still images the smaller sensors can produce stunning quality, but don't quite match a larger sensor (the lower resolution required for video means FF isn't required). I use 4/3rds and FF bodies for both Stills & Video.

      It's great to have Chris to represent people with smaller hands or fingers, and he often has different ergonomic impressions for this reason. Which camera was it that he couldn't reach the front buttons for?
      However, many reviewers have had precisely the opposite response - stating that the ergonomics afforded all day shooting far more readily than they'd expected.
      Basically, photographers with small hands should attend to Chris' impressions, and those with larger hands can attend to other people's impressions.
      Perhaps Jordan should weigh in on ergonomics.

    Great review 👍 I just think the hole panasonic s1 system is to big..the lenses and the body are so much larger than the eos r, a7 and z6/7

    decent camera, but the af jitter is a deal bracker, considering that other brands resolved the af problems by now
    probably you can use it in manual focus mode , but no cine lenses yet and the lenses provided may not have a linear focus

      On the subject of lenses: 2 out of the 3 lenses have Olympus pro style manual focus clutches, and therefore proper MF capability. Also all Focus by Wire lenses can be set to a linear focus response in the camera settings. You can even change the focus throw to smthng like 300°. And Adapters to PL (and EF) will probably be out very fast

    Are there regular sock puppets here from large rival corporations, or am I being paranoid?

    Who’s going to buy this as opposed to an A9 or a Z7? I just don’t see a market for this camera.

      I looked at both those cameras, and the Z series is appealling. However, I've got ART lenses and M lenses, and although I primarily shoot Fuji, I'm also familiar with Panasonic and shoot Foveon, so these L Mount Alliance cameras are perfect for me. I like the size/durability, and hope that Sigma's FF Foveon is also large (I use Fuji for agility.)
      The EVF suits the M lenses, and Sigma are releasing an EF-L first-party adaptor which has native performance and 100% compatibility (in this interview they stated that they changed the L mount protocols specifically for ideal performance - something they couldn't do with E mount etc, yet can do as first-party to the Alliance: www.imaging-resource.com/news/2018/10/02/sigma-interview-photokina-2018-ceo-kazuto-yamaki-give-peek-l-mount-alliance )
      For me, buying additional lenses will be optional. Apart from all the existing ART lenses, Sigma stated that they will design a new line for the L mount, and it's possible that they will be exclusive to the L mount, or perform better on L than E due to the mount advantages ("Value-angle" as Fuji call it, and diameter, of course.)

    Besides the autofocus and some smaller almost but not quite there things this is like the perfect camera. I love the xqd/uhs-2 combo, the lighted buttons (though more lighted would be better), and the vertical grip where it doesn't have to be inserted into the battery compartment but instead just uses like Pogo pins or something to connect externally. Wish though that it had better autofocus and speed. Sony if you're reading take these cameras and put your autofocus, lens mount, and speed on these and make this the gen 4 7 and 7rs.

    Full frame mirrorless presents a huge challenge for all three manufacturers releasing them for the first time. I think it will be extremely important for Panasonic to define their target consumers for these cameras, as well as the broader L-mount lens system licensed by Leica to Panasonic and Sigma. There is much promise here.
    The AF performance IS a big question for still photographers. Serious videographers will likely give it a pass, because we pull focus manually anyway. Time will tell whether Panasonic is able to improve CDAF with firmware upgrades.

      I think it looks like the perfect manual focus camera. I've been holding out for a camera to use my M lenses with, and this is ideal. One of the reviewers mentioned a manual focus PIP mode which was different to any he'd seen before, and he found particularly useful.
      The AF woes don't apply to AF-S for Panasonic, and never have, and we all know that firmware upgrades for AF are now standard thanks to Fuji's Kaizen philosophy. ruclips.net/video/Z8lZgPimNjI/видео.html
      Based upon the disinformation and dissent, I think that the large rivals are worried about the L Mount Alliance.
      I'm interested to see what the video-focussed S camera will be like, and guessing that it will release after the A7SIII (which, ironically, has had a delayed release to respond to these two cameras.) I was surprised that the X-T3 had better bit-rates than these ones, so I'm guessing that they were saving those for an SV1.

    Guess Chris doesn't want to fall in love with the S1 as yet. A few errors which is understandable. You CAN extend the S1 and S1R to ISO50 if desired, so the Nikon does NOT have an advantage over it. The pulsing you're seeing is a direct result of the firmware NOT being finalized as yet. It is not the way Panasonic wishes to represent their focus lock. I've already seen several video's taken with a few folks that have slightly later firmware and now shows NO pulsing or fluctuation of the focus locking and it even tracks movement superior to the Nikon's as well. Here's to hoping the very final firmware will nail it altogether.

      You can push any 10 year old camera to 50, it doesn't mean it's anything like the Nikon feature, where ISO 64 is a native higher DR/lower noise mode.
