Did Cheryl Crow know about Armstrong's doping, I wonder? I remember when Robin Williams went on a talk show in America, and declared that Armstrong wasn't doping, then made a cute joke about Armstrong having one testicle. I've always wondered if he was heartbroken that Armstrong was lying, or if Williams was covering for him? Robin Williams was an avid cyclist and had a pretty large collection of bikes, and attended TTDF, almost yearly. He must have known pro cycling was dirty?

Yes Sheryl Crow did eventually learn about his drug use and was called to testify against him. Part of the reason why they split up I believe.
I don’t think Robin was in the inner circle ⭕️ enough to be in on the juicing.
Cycling is something strongly evocative and artistic of your real inner, having both epic and dramatic dimensions when you find yourself alone on the saddle for long trips, especially during climbs and all this package is multiplied for ten in case of pure climbers who literally live the mountain as a life completing experience through hairpin bends and any single gradient change.
No surprise a rider like Marco with his charisma, personality contradictions between dreamy romanticism and disenchanted childishness (his racecraft an obvious consequence), felt attraction for music, art and that kind of a girl (apparently a blonde fairy able to hit all the senses, coming from a far and unknown location, hidden in a not ordinary context where everything was declined to excess, something you had to take against odds and convert into more ordinary, exactly like a climb with a new height).
As someone who loves riding and climbing on my bike, I have Marco's very similar inclinations. I like writing, I like music, I like drawing. And yes, in my life I felt attracted by some questionable girls.
I obviously don't follow him on his path about drugs, but I understand why he fell in his spirals, the mechanism that created all and what senses have been touched in kind of a shortcut.
On one hand he felt shame, on the other he knew he was a scapegoat for a context where nothing was going to change. This contradiction apparently without solution made all the ones his personality was built explode and self-destruction was to his eyes the only way to avoid the pain. Don't think cocaine abuse for him has been some pleasure. For him it was more of an indirect and prolonged suicide in the illusion of finding peace.

Regarding Armstrong, when your whole career / life is built around lies what would you expect anything different in your relationships - even this which are complicit in your lies will fail as there is no solid foundation for them

For top flite riders, that training in Europe with their teams is essential to their preparation. Armstrong would rent out homes in Europe for it.

How about worst boyfriends list? I'm sute there were some promesing talent among female riders that got screwed by jealous, ambitious, egoistic, posesive boyfriend. Digging up crap on pro cyclists and those involved is the equivalent of the cheap n nasty paperazzi that many of us love to hate. But love it anyway. There is a lot that is sad about the stories you bring us. And many of those commenting bring up some interesting observations also. It's ok to grow up and see that there is no Santa. I'm not so sure I want my illusions of pro cycling shattered.....but I brace myself and accept it. Are there ANY positive success stories? Come on. Cheer this old man up at least a little bit before I depart.
