  • In series 2 of doctor who, with the 10th doctor and rose tyler we were introduced to cybus industries and reintroduced to the cybermen. They cybermen were from a parallel world and controlled by John Lumic. These cybermen were destroyed by the doctor but some survived and travelled across the weakened void, due to the daleks and rained chaos on Torchwood and Doctor Who's main universe. The Doctor sent the cybus cybermen back into the void but some survived. We saw this in the next doctor with the cyberking and cybershades and the cyberwoman in torchwood. These cybermen also appeared in the Pandora opens as part of the alliance and much more. But what if I told you there was more than that and that these cybermen did a lot more.

I love that they came from a parallel universe because it calls back to their first appearance in which they come from a twin planet of Earth with all the same continents and (allegedly) the same people. Mildly sad that Moffat decided they weren't good enough, but I like to think they simply merged with our universe's cybermen, hence the sharing of designs.

It was great just to get the Cybermen back. It didn't bother me that they were ones from a parallel universe. They were still menacing & creepy AF. Okay, I'm weak, they are my favourite villain in Who, I've loved all their incarnations over the years.

I have a theory that The CybusMen actually saved The Prime Whoniverses Cybermen from Extinction (By McCoy's era they were pretty desperate after the destruction of Telos)
The Cybermen and CybusMen eventually merged in Nightmare in Silver and evolved together to become Cyber Warriors and other variants.

The Cybermen in Series 5, "Conversion," and "Assimilation²" were Cyberiad Cybermen, meaning they're both Mondasian and Cybus. It's confusing, but Steven Moffat said that the Cybermen from Series 5 were Mondasian. However, "Assimilation²" and Neil Gaiman changed them to Mondasian and Cybus because Gaiman said that the Mondasian Cybermen met the Cybus Cybermen who survived onboard the CyberKing after "The Next Doctor."

The Cybus-men design is also used in Series 6 Closing Time, Series 7B Nightmare in Silver, Series 10 The Doctor Falls, and as cyberheads in Series 12 Ascension of the Cybermen.

What if there were more than one faction of Cybermen? The idea of creating an immortal and indestructible body isn't a unique vision, as the Mondasian Cybermen came about due to their planet going out of orbit and being unable to sustain life on the surface, but then the Cybermen we saw aboard the evacuation ship seen in "World Enough and Time" came about due to dwindling resources and a need to stay alive. It would be interesting to see what would happen if more than one world created Cybermen, and they went to war.

The cybus cybermen were a perfect example of why the cybermen were an inevitable part of humanity if we continue to obsess over efficiency, that's why I liked them. Moffat and Chibnall just made them another generic alien race

Unfortunately the introduction of the parallel Cybermen has really confused the narrative as we have no idea if our universe ones joined and adapted with them or vice versa, it's all become very confused and complicated

I imagined they travelled into our universe, met up with the classic Cybermen and merged their technology creating the Cybermen we saw in Matt Smiths era. Would have been a cool story to see rather than having no explanation.

I could never get behind the NuWho catchphrase of the Cybermen. I maintain they should have went with Tomb's "You shall be like us" though I guess they can't shout that ad nauseam when shooting things.

TLDR theres no body horror and they've lost their uncaring edge.
Danny pink, Yvonne hartman, Lisa from torchwood, so many characters that make the cybermen compelling, simply dont see that any more.
Came close with Bill but then they defeated the whole point of sacrifice/cost by having her just instantly resurrected.
Theres no cost with the modern cybermen.

Great Video ! only question I have is how did the Cybusmen get displaced through time? You mentioned something about Davros in Journeys End but im confused how that ended up with cybusmen in Victorian London (next doctor) and Rome (pandorica opens). Amazing video again tho I was wondering about this the other day and you answered a lot of my questions!

Davros’s efforts in making the reality bomb in Series 4 had further weakened the barriers between universes (hence how Rose, Mickey & Jackie were able to teleport back to their native universe from the parallel “Pete’s World” universe), chances are that some Cybus Cybermen managed to figure out ways of escaping the void during this time (either on their own or by stealing Dalek tech) before the barriers were restored.

Never liked them. RTD in a nutshell, not understanding the subtleties of how the original cybermen were so scary. Nah, he genuinely thought it would be scarier to just have them loud, stomping, with booming voices. I do very much like RTD as a writer but he needs a co-producer like Steven Moffat to constantly remind him that less is more. These cybermen had none of the eerieness that gets under your skin like the old-school ones did. (And this is coming from someone who DIDNT grow up with old-Who. I grew up with New Who but I can look at it objectively)
