DJI Mavic 3 Review - King of Drones // 6 Months In
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 30 май 2022
- This Mavic 3 Cine review is after 6 months of using this drone regularly, I’m sort of obligated to do this now because I use it constantly over my other drones. The default color is really incredible, but I also have the option to color grade because of the rich data and Prores format.
After firmware updates from DJI this drone now has hyperlapse, a huge battery, a 7x zoom camera with manual picture settings like shutter, iso, etc. (coming in next update) and it's heavy enough to sit still in the wind at night and do a 1 second long exposure.
Cannot recommend it enough just because of how little you have to stress over what you’re filming since anything it records has turned out better after viewing than what I had pictured in my head. Again and again.
The DJI RC Pro is such a VIP feature, seriously makes flying fun again not having to consider a phone.
Most shots filmed between California, San Diego, Highway 1 in Northern California, Scottsdale Arizona
Most shots:
Prores 24fps - Normal Color Profile
DJI 16ND filter
1/60 shutter
ISO 100
Graded in Adobe Premiere Pro using Lumetri Color

Agreed. It’s almost trendy by now to slam this drone but I love it. This is a grounded, technical, hands-on review; best I’ve seen yet on the M3.
I was a professional photographer for nearly 40 years before I retired, and it is so refreshing to hear a young man speak intelligently about a subject very few people know intimately and accurately.
Not trying to sound like a fan boy here, just giving credit where credit is due. Very few people stop to say thanks any more, always whining and bitching.
There is so much BS on RUclips that it is almost impossible to find something both true and of true value. That is why I keep returning to your channel. You are always a bit abrupt but always right on the mark. You remind me of a drill instructor I had in the Marine Corps.
Please take that as a compliment and keep sending us the good stuff.
I once spent my life savings on a compact 35mm SLR camera. Okay, I was only 14 at the time, but photography has always been an interest of mine, and that Konica K3 got me started. I got into drones about 5 yr ago, bought the cheapest one I could find, and am watching this to decide which one to get next.
I like what you said, credit where credit is due. I used to call my teachers by their surnames, I'm that old. :) I still would, out of respect.
@@cmonkey63 what drone do you have currently?
@@thecinedrone Started with a cheap MiDrone from Xiaomi, but recently purchased a DJI Mavic Air 2S. Chalk and cheese, really. The colour saturation on default settings is amazing.
I've seen a lot of review videos about drones, this one blew me away. Excellent content, well edited. Thanks. You call it as it is, and I appreciate that honesty.
As a professional who is too busy to make influencer videos I love your stuff. 99% of reviewers don't make offline films as a job. They just seem to toe the DJI party line. So thanks for taking time out of your real job to make a real review. And I love my Mavic 3!
My M3 is arriving friday, I'll spend the weekend setting up and learning to fly it.
I'm mid 60's our on a cattle station.
I do many km driving rough sometimes boggy tracks checking water troughs and stock.
It will make life easier, save fuel and wear and tear on vehicle and me !
I couldn't buy anything less than the M3, flight time up to 15km range and the zoom.
I like to read good reports like yours as makes me confident my moneys well spent.
Can I ask about the arms, being as thin as they are, do they still feel well built? I’m on the fence about selling my air 2s due to wanting better battery life ( and variable aperture) though every time I look at how thin those arms are, it puts me off for some reason😅
@@nathanhassani5366 interesting. I had the Mavic air2s and upgraded to the 3. I cant tell any difference in anyway between the arms of the 2 and the 3. I have crashed the 3 a few times. No problems.
Well done. One of the best reviews I've seen of any product ever!
Thanks so much again Alex for your in depth review of this drone after some time. Between you and Phillip Bloom, I can always count on you guys to deliver valuable content on these drones. I currently have the Mavic 2 Pro and I am considering getting the Mavic 3 primarily for photography, travel videos, roof and solar panel inspections.
Your channel has become a go to. Nice work! I am a long time viewer of your content.
Man this video was exactly what I needed. Full time wedding filmmaker here, barely getting by with the Parrot Anafi I had for almost 4 years and just ordered the Mavic 3 after a few people tried to convince me it's "overpriced". I'm of the same mindset to "love your business" and invest into it and it'll "love you back". Just subbed!
I appreciate your dedication to do great reviews. Keep it up buddy.
Ive had the M3 since launch, only just ordered the RC pro yesterday. With the latest firmware release its a more complete drone now. For my workflow its perfect, the results are always pleasing on the eye. Your footage is always well balanced with regards to composition, colour and visual interest.
You nailed this review, man!!! Awesome job!!
Awesome video, packed to to the top with excellent information!! I just bought my Mavic 3 (non-cine) and love it. This is a video I keep coming back to because of the information and great footage. Thank you!
This thing is a BEAST! Thanks for the video. So much info i like to watch several times.
Hands down the most honest drone operator there is period, you don’t bullshit, just straight to the point with facts, love you’re vids.
Awesome review, as a filmmaker myself. Just wanted to appreciate what you do for the community!
Excellent Video, and Amazing Photography! Well Done! Thank You Alex.
Great updated info, thanks Alex.
Best review I've seen great work thank you for your detailed review 👍
Thanks for a great review finally someone talking about the important stuff
Thanks for the video it's nice to hear your insights as a professional honest and great review!!!
We are looking at upgrading from the Air 2, and your review might have convinced us. Great work!
Fantastic review!! Been needing a review for this drone from someone who also uses an Inspire 2 for work! Great stuff
That’s awesome! I love your work! After this video I think I’ll pull the trigger and get my own. Thank you
13:03 to 13:08 blew my mind. This drone is crazy powerful. Solid review man!
best youtuber out there tbh
very informational, very honest, you need more views!!!!
been watching your vids for a while now, and just gotta say it's a relief seeing some blunt content that doesn't have shitty click-bait titles/thumbnails, doesn't repeat the same crap from the top 10 drone reviewers out there, and unpacks some of the lesser known details/tips about these ships. since covid, seems that a lot of content has went downhill, and just wanted to say thanks for producing actual relevant content m8. 👏💯
Thanks for an amazing review and all the info!
Love your videos, mate.
Same
Best tutorial I've seen by far, nice work brother.
As a professional videographer, there are SO MANY RUclips videos that praise a product or say two products are pretty much identical when they’ve used them once in their back yard. It is refreshing and so so different when you actually use equipment on the job for work. Thank you for this review. Tired of people saying the Mini 3 Pro is equally as good and capable as the Mavic 3 Cine. I don’t own either, but I also know that has to be so wrong. My GoPro and my Canon R3 can both shoot 4K 120fps but that doesn’t mean the images look even remotely similar.
yeah bugs me to no end when they film trees at midday and go 'look its the same, 4K60fps' but every camera looks the same midday shooting a tree.
I really enjoy your video reviews.
Incredible review ! This drone has just received a major update, but apart from that DJI software team is planning to implement a dedicated waypoint function by the end of Q3 or early Q4 as part of their next major software update. The FLY app is currently undergoing a complete overhaul. It may take sometime to code and integrate different functions though. We just have to wait and see! Hopefully we will see a more capable Mavic 3 by the end of this year. Cheers!
You bastard! I convinced myself I was fine still with my Mavic 2 Pro. Now I need the 3 cine. Great video!
absolutely agree Alex! I had my biggest job of my career yesterday and Monday and I can't begin to explain the amount of comfort I find in grabbing the mavic 3 ( not cine) unfortunately!? but still I know I'm going to be able to handle whatever shots the producer is asking for and it will come out the other end gorgeous even on normal
I just recently got my cert and entered the industry. I did 5 homes for free with this drone and the clients loved the footage. Gonna keep racking up these 5 star reviews for a little until and get more established. This video just reaffirmed my feelings about this drone, made me feel good about my purchase.
Any help on getting your first clients to start up?
excellent review, thank you!
wow this is the best review regarding drones! Great job! DJI should have sponsored this review! Subscribed!
I love the drone but I am super unhappy with the tracking for its price point. Any issues with the Active Track 5.0?
I don't often leave comments. What a great video and review. My mavic 3 cine is currently on its initial charge in the hotel room, and this video was just perfect. Thanks.
Good video. I'm glad you did a 360 on your opinion. I scraped up enough to buy the cine and I'm so glad I did. After owning g DJI products, starting with the original phantom , then the mavic lines, this is hands down the best of them all. I'm not a professional photographer yet but have sold some mav 2 pro stock footage. My goal is to turn this into a revenue stream to help out. I just need to get some of my footage out there for people to see. Keep up the good work and don't stop with the mav 3 videos. I always take away some useful information when watching them.
180.
How did that dog at 6.49 not go for the drone? Some mavic magic going on there.
Great overview from a pro perspective. I really liked how you split the market segments between the hobbyist (astronomer / price shopper) and the working pro who can use and extract the insanely great value from these tools. You have agreat talent for distilling / filtering information to deliver the truth.
Loving my air 2s (luckily my clients dont request pro res)
- looking sideways at the M3, looking straight at the Pro Controller RC.
I am going to get in here early and say
CONGRATS on 100K - I am sure its not far away.
I love the controller after being forced to buy it lol, it is a beautiful tool. But yes hopefully it’s soon, I almost didn’t realize I’m at 96k until just now haha
Another great video !!
Great video! Been flying the Cine for a year and everything you said in this video is absolutely true!
I'm only beginning to get into the professional drone photography industry. I felt like I was really restricted by my previous drones, so I took the risk and bought the Mavic 3 earlier this year, despite all the bad reviews and complaints. I have not regretted it once. I feel like I have tons of room to grow into this drone without it forcing restrictions upon my potential as a creator.
Really stoked to hear that they are adding functionality to the zoom cam. I love using it as is, but extra functionality would make it much better.
Somebody got botted ._.
Just received one and your video is super helpful. Thx
This is the review I was looking for. Seemed like all the reviews were downplaying the dynamic range, but it's at the top of my list. Especially living in the perennially-overcast PNW.
Great video brother! After watching this I think I’m about to go shoot some sunsets now! I personally don’t care for all the creative modes when it comes to drones, but my main reason for purchasing the Mavic 3 in the first place was because I wanted a consumer/professional drone that had the best camera/quality, and I must say that I’m happy with my decision.
Lastly, I’ve been hearing that shooting low light in d-log wasn’t recommended, but I appreciate your thoughts behind the reason as to why it would be good to use the d-log for low light shooting.
It’s soo funny I was all about the mini 3 pro back in June now I couldn’t care less, my sights are locked on this drone! Great video outstanding quality as always!
very well done. some great info. ty for sharing 👍
Thank you so much 🙏🏾 I love how you broke everything down 🤝🏾
I have had this drone since April 15th, I thought it was a bust instead, I bust a nut, awesome update / review thank you
Thanks for the great information!
I love this drone and learning so much.
Brilliant advice 👍
Mavic pro here we go ....
Great content! Love the review and praise you give the Mavic 3. I am getting one here soon as I need a bit more from my work using an Air 2. Have you ever found a need for the Matrice 300? Easily overkill for video/photography content, but I would love to explore the photogrammetry and LiDAR realms of work.
Great video!!!
I work in network television and you are spitting truth here. Great Review.
Perfect review, mine has just arrived.
Amazing drone broo, I hope U enjoy it, great video
DAMNIT!!! !!
Now I have To buy this drone.
Thanks pal😉
thx
Thanks for the review. Fast and simple as always! As a mavic 2 owner, I do really understand why you need the Mavic 3 as a pro, but not necessarily as a hobbyist. Will you be reviewing the insta360 sphere? Thanks
Excellent excellent video! I just subscribed. Thank you
Liked and subscribed just based on this video. I watched in 4K on my 5K apple monitor and you could clearly see how much better the DJI Mavic 3 footage is. The only question I wish you would have delved into more is your thoughts on whether or not its worth it to get the Cine version over the "regular" version. Long time photographer and videographer by the way. Thanks again for a great video and explanations as well as great footage.
P.S. Is there a high quality anamorphic lens for this drone and if so which one do you recommend? Thanks!
Brilliant video, exactly the info I was after. Sold. All my gen 2 kit is getting sold, time for M3 Cine. Thanks.
Hey. Nicely spoken through the video. You have a good flow. Keep it up. Got my sub.
Great comments. I was on the fence in my decision to buy this drone. I saw a lot of potential in this drone. This new review has pushed me over. I will get this drone. Thanks
just quick question: Im not into the quality cause I know its sick .. but I heard about the GPS issues ... and they cant fix it wiht software cause its a hardware .. you have any of that?
Would you recommend the Mini 3 Pro for a first timer or a Mavic 3? The purpose of the drone will be capturing family memories but also exploring the cinematic space, learning grading and creating content for RUclips/IG (not professional use). I love the camera on the Mavic, but it seems like the Mini 3 Pro, being on the newer release cycle has brought some serious tech that I think, will trickle up into the Mavic 4 (Vertical mode, clearance for longer range elevation).
Also in your opinion, is the 249g that useful? I find places that may not be comfortable with drone use may not necessarily distinguish between a 249g vs a Mavic 3, even if I am allowed to legally fly them there.
Hi there. Thank you for all your reviews - you are the best. Can the gimble if the Mavic 3 rotate upwards (like the new Mini 3 Pro) take videos of e.g. the ceiling of big buildings like cathedrals etc?
I am in love with my Mavic 2 Pro "HQ mode" which uses the center of the sensor thus creating an "optical" 40mm focal length. I am thinking of if I use the 5.1K footage of the MAvic3 and magnify it to 4K resolution, would it be a kind of "optical" magnification ? Around 20% percent magnification I would get an about 29-30mm focal length footage ? I know M3 has a digital zoom, but I am not sure if it is good or not. I don't own Mavic3 yet. Any idea ? Thanks
Great review, my first drone purchase is a maverick pro 3 the rest will work itself out. Looking forward to your website for guidance..
Thanks for that!
All good to hear. I am torn between the regular and Cine
Good review
Great video thanks. Just wondering if you know The DJI FPV goggles V2 will connect to the Mavic 3?
What are you using to send the files to a client? Do you send them a hardcopy or over the internet? Thanks for the great 🎥
Damn Alex you just dont miss. " The drone community has a lot of Astronomers and not alot of Astronauts" lol.......
After flying a Parrot Anafi which compared to that is ancient technology now, but it is the drone I learned to fly in Pro- Tune with ND filters and Log and the difference that makes to your footage from automatic settings is massive. So I am now going to treat myself to this. Thanks for the video it is a lot of money but one feels I have earned the right to buy. Also being able to change settings in flight on pro mode is music to my ears
Very nice video
Is the Hasselblad Phocus software a good editor for the footage? Or, would you recommend DaVinci Resolve? Or, ....
Thanks for talking about the flight time
Do you have an any experience handheld shoot on this drone? I wont use hand held oftenly. But ı am curious about it.
What do you see DJI doing with the Air 3? The Gap is closing from the new mini 3 pro to the air and this now. Excellent video thanks for sharing, I'm really enjoying my Mavic 3 as a rookie pilot/photographer.
I'm like you, I'm blown away by the normal mode. I kill myself when I try to overthink an exposure. This takes that out of my hand. I will set the color balance and shift it out of auto
Can the better controller be used with a non Cine Mavic 3? And if so what advantages? Nicely done video. Thanks. Tom
Good video. I like the comparison between the DJI Mavic 2 vs 3. You were also right, hobbyist like me wait until the prices go down, but if I was a professional I would be buying the top of the line equipment. I still enjoy my DJIA Mavic 2S, but can see the advantages of the Mavic 3.
Would you consider a short / medium / long video on what you editing setup is currently please? Workstation, laptop etc and software. I think it's interesting to see what people use when working with such huge files like what you do. Thanks Lee.
Nice shoots of Moonlight Beach. Saw the family house in a few shoots
You had me at "Hi guys"
Here, here, Alex. Excellent presentation. I appreciate the candor. A LOT! I'm a shutter slave for almost 50 years. I'm stoked to have struggled through the development of aerial imagery and lived to create content with the M3. I do have a couple gripes though. With my MPT, I can't get the tight satellite view, which bugs me. Also, I recall that there was info that the MP2 was soft at higher than wide open apertures and I'm semi-scared to stop down instead of putting on another ND filter. Any report from thou on aperture sharpness?
agreed, love the astronomer/astronauts reference...really enjoying mine M3Cine and this was a great video, you said it all for me. Now I can just share this every time someone talks crap about it...I'll only bring my air2S now for an oh sh!t that's a risky shot.
Hi mate, just started watching your videos and i have to say they are brilliant and no pussyfooting!😬just bought mavic 3 cine and loving it so far! What software do you recommend for editing???
Great video bro! Your shit is always on point!
Can you recommend a beginner level yet robust video editing program for windows to use with the M3 for a content creator? I want ease of use but with plenty of function to ensure my videos fulfill their potential despite my lack of experience.
Recently purchased this with about $600 off.
Have they still reduced the iso control in dlog? Would be nice to be able to boost it as required and denoise in post of required.
Also be nice to have sharpening settings to reduce.
Apparently tripod mode is making a comeback which is awesome to hear, more control = more pro drone.
Thank you for the great video. I have a stupid question. If I were to capture prores, edit on the timeline and export my edit from final cut as H265, would I lose the whole benefit of having prores in the first place? Does the extra quality in prores remain even though the final project is in H265? Meaning the whole benefit of prores is the extra editing power but not the quality in the end? Thanks again. I thought this question on another video and I thought it was a great question but it was never answered. I realize you said normal color looks great, and I agree. I also know it’s 10-bit even in normal color when working with Prores. Thanks again man, great stuff.
Guess you don’t know the answer. 🤣
it really all depends on what you're doing with the file. the very simple answer I would give is, shoot with both and color grade and edit and view the results to compare. everyone has different processing needs. if you are going to heavily grade your images, the more data the more flexibility. The worse thing people do is a straight 1:1 comparison between the two codecs.. thats not really the point. if you shoot in h265 and need to do a lot of color grading youre going to be stuck and it will start to show very quickly. If youre just shooting footage to immediately be edited with very little grading you'll be fine with h265. you wont notice THAT much difference
@@flipnap2112 Thank you teddy! That makes sense.
"These drones have always been underpriced." Absolutely true.
shooooosh! DJI will hear! ;)
It sucks though- a lot of times they are some of the best but they can brake for no good reason
Get me one
please dont give dji ideas XD i cant afford the mini let alone the mavic 3 lol
Not many people are aware that this drone is no. 1 choice in Ukrainian war right now on both sides? it is great for surveillance and artillery aiming. Thus the demand is huge as this is an expendable tool (being shot at constantly) so prices went up as both sided demand constant supply
Not a pro but I’m sold, excellent review.
Can you clarify a little further on why you've started shooting more in auto + normal instead of log + manual? Felt like I might have missed some nuance. When is it appropriate to shoot in auto + normal? I always thought it was best practice to shoot in log with manual settings to make color correction much easier later on?
I’m never ever in auto lol I’m just in normal profile for color, but always using manual settings for shutter and stuff
Yes I try to keep it the same as much as I can so that I can copy/paste color settings to a new clip when going through footage that day that is similar
