DJI Mavic 3 Classic Review - The Real M2P Successor Drone

- DJI Mavic 3 Classic has just released Nov. 2 2022, I can confirm after using myself that it is the same quality, same camera and mostly everything good minus the zoom lens. Here's a drone review to save everybody time:
Yes it has the zoom lens removed
No it isn't using a worse camera
No Aperture hasn't been removed
Yes it uses the same Mavic 3 batteries, Same props, Same body, Same everything except the ND Filters
Yes, there are new features: Night Mode, Hyperlapse preview, a DJI RC option when buying
5.1k H.265 footage, no internal hard drive (except for small 8gb)
Hasselblad 4/3" sensor f2.8
4K 60fps
10-bit D-Log
20mp photos
Omni Directional Obstacle Avoidance

Most important to me was that the firmware and color profile look and feel like the Mavic 3 before, and yes it is still all there. Really well working exposure balancing in the software while filming, and I can't believe I'm saying this but I really love that HDR thing whatever it is doing, it gives the Mavic 3 a rich and distinct look.
Night mode was a great idea to add without having to harm the current profile for normal filming. The color profile and ISO didn't translate well to night time filming, so with this Night Mode, black point, noise containment, and sensitivity to bright spots makes it look much cleaner, very vibrant for filming at such low-light. SUPER happy with this and hope all drones get it soon.
This feels like the natural successor to the Mavic 2 pro, the drone we were all anticipating in 2021. The Mavic 3 was a big leap in quality, features, and price. This should satisfy everybody who was waiting around for a $1700ish drone and still wanted a manual aperture. Rejoice mortals.

Just get a second battery and ND filters and you'll be fine. REALLY suggest the DJI RC smart remote too, wildly helpful to the experience.

Oml! The bar is pretty low …the video is literally about nothing. Same drone they removed the telephone bc and I know this dough head said different but they took it out bc it was a useless gimmick …and night mode LOL Oml
This is worse then the guy who sells bumpers for a drone (Avata) that doesn’t need them , at all, it’s too heavy and under powered already . I’ve hit a wall full throttle no bumpers , no dents …add weight to go slower lol sooo funny

A fantastic, concise review of the new Mavic 3 Classic. I think the new Night Mode and cruise control features will be added to the Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Cine at least since the sensor is congruent across the Mavic 3 range.

Spot on review! This is the Mavic 3 that I was hoping to see on the drone launch last year! I sure like the telephoto lens but if I could have the 4/3 CMOS Hasselblad camera at a cheaper price though at the expense of the 2nd camera, then I'm all for it!
Awesome review(as always) packed with information. I do have one question though, regarding the RTH feature. Is there a way of the drone returning to the controller automatically wherever you happen to be, or does it only return to the initial point of origin without having to re-establish the RTH?

Great no BS review. Very informative and concise with good information without self aggrandizement. I had to search to find out his name in fact(Alex). As a professional photographer, It's obvious he's been an experienced photographer for a while, pre-drone probably) based on his content and quality of images and videos. I've been flying a friend's Air2s while I decide what drone I will by for myself and yes, not having aperture control is annoying as it is challenging to keep the exposure level constant without changing the shutter speed or ISO. I'm having to switch between ND16 and ND32 filters yet can't get a consistant sweet spot of 1/60 shutter speed when shooting 30fps.
After watching this review Im leaning towards buying this Mavic 3 classic.

Love your videos. I would love to see a video from you on what you use for media storage. How much of your footage do you keep? Do you just edit it and keep final edits or certain clips? Do you save your D-Log footage for flexibility in future projects? What kinds of projects are worth shooting in ProRes vs when is the file size not worth it? What kind of storage devices do you use for all of this?
Every time I see more of these videos I get more and more jagged that I just bought the DJI Mavic 3 Classic. I hope I get it tomorrow like the shipping says! I am going to have so much fun with this and the jobs I could do with this, is going to be insane!

Have an Air 2S. Might buy this one. I blame you.
Been playing with the M3 Classic with the new RC since yesterday. This thing is pretty sweet compared to my mini2, I love the built in screen on the controller, plus all the obstacle avoidance with the classic. The filght time on the classic is awesome to me, definitely gonna need another battery as one won't cut it.
I had to run though Best Buy for my Classic and Fly More Kit. Now I have a year to pay them completely without the worry about additional charges and this makes it amazingly affordable for me at this time. Wish I had $3 Grand just sitting around when I need it. I guess this "Rich Guy" didn't manage his minimum wage properly?

I have two great quotes, one for the M3 and one for the M3 Classic ($450 apart) would you stretch for the M3 for the Telephoto Lens or is it not worth it in your experience with the drone? Im thinking of investing in your course but I'll need to grab a better laptop first. So would you recommend picking up a 2016 MacBook Pro i7?
For commercial jobs…are you using the Inspire 2 or have you even been able to use the Mavic 3 Cine? This is assuming you don’t need dual op and longer lens. Wondering just how often you have used the ProRes on the M3 Cine. Thanks! Wonderful videos.
Another awesome video review. I have looked at the Mavic 3 and the Cine. But after watching your video I think the Classic has what I’m looking for at this point. Getting ready to retire from 30 yrs of policing 15yrs of that was doing Surveillance/Photography and 40yrs of photography experience I’m looking to supplement my pension with some drone photography. Eventually I can see adding a Matrice 30T and I have to say your video on that was amazing as well.

Awesome review Alex. I'm glad that the M3C released, although it feels like a star wars launch. The end came out first than the beginning. The Mavic 3 launched (although a serious rocky and bumpy one at that) and people couldn't justify the upgrade because of its "insanely high price tag". Well now they can upgrade to the M3C as its the middle ground unit because the Air2S and the M3. Glad that DJI is releasing the M3 in 3 different packages like the Mini3P as well. I'm loving my OG M3 and I can't get enough of it. Hopefully the M3C will be the drone pilots have been salivating over to upgrade to a better performing platform at a much more affordable pricing. My only question now is, the Air2S rc-pro kit is 1749 and yet the M3C baby rc pro is also 1749....so with that in mind...will dji drop the Air2s rc pro kit or worse yet drop the Air2s entirely 🤔

I'm sure they will drop the price on the Air 2S package since that DJI RC is about $150 extra on a package, I think they were still figuring out the pricing for it in the beginning.... But I can't remember if that is a fly more combo included as well or not
Mini 2 is pretty much the same price from 2 years ago (at least I don't count 100-150$ as a discount) so I don't expect discounts on the next best thing from the Pro models 🤷

I deffo think I’m guna grab one of these! I do wish they put more than 8GB internal storage, but that is literally the only thing. Everything else is ideal. Also really happy that the RC from my mini 3 will work with both!
Way Points & TapFly Free are game changers in videography. The latter is enabling to lock-in an ascending straight line trajectory & then rotate the drone 180 with gimbal flipped vertically down & having set a slow speed (eg 1 m/s); you can now slowly tilt up. Unfaltering tilt-reveal!

I just purchased the Mavic 3 classic.
I noticed 4 little what looks like protective film strips that cover the sensors.
Are you supposed to take them off.
They do have a little colored corner that looks like a pull tab.
Then I see two more on each side of the gimbal.
Don’t see anyone talk about these in the unboxing videos.

Do you think DJI will be making a full frame sensor drone in a Mavic form factor? I would love a full frame sensor for low light work, but buying an Inspire is out of budget. It would be super to have a drone in-between the Mavic and Inspire

The new modes (night mode, cruise control etc) is available on the mavic 3 pro via the latest update. So same firmware too.

Is there much difference in the footage from the Mavic 3 Cine compared to the Classic? Or is the cine just for more serious people who want to colour grade?
Mavic 3 cine have ProRes video format which give less compression to video, so you have better quality. Both have D-Log options to shoot with.
I am struggling. I have a mini 2. Ready to upgrade. I have been looking at mini 3 pro. Easier to travel internationally due to weight restrictions? And less noise to have people look up? I am loving the idea of 3 classic now.
Would you recommend any 3rd party props for sound/pitch reduction. (Mavic 3 classic)

great review, as always. but i do think, they night video an photo should be better with this size sensor and hoping to see some improvements in the future via firmware etc. otherwise, no doubt, best drone for the money on the market, period.

Mavic 3 already have same features as classic, there was firmware update few days ago already.
interesting drone, FINALLY. ever since my M2P I never upgraded cos I didn't feel the need to (got the FPV tho) especially for the stupid price point of the Mavic 3..
finally this is the drone I was expecting when they released the mavic 3, proper pricing, proper performance upgrade, I might have some uses for the night mode even, so to me this is finally the time I'm looking to upgrade.
DJI sure took their sweet time on this and hopefully they learnt a thing or two from that terrible mavic 3 launch (cos the launch was terribad)
I have an Air 2s, if I switch up to the Mavic 3, how does apature control with with their autofocus system? I mean the Air 2s likes to frequently switch up on me when doing panning shots and I don't like shooting in manual because 99% of the time I'm out of focus 😂.
The problem though is that many people bought the DJI Mini 3 Pro or the Air 2S because the first releases of the Mavic 3 series were miles too expensive. Upgrading from the Mavic 2 Pro to the Mavic 3 Classic is a no brainer but very hard to justify if you bought the Mini 3 Pro or Air 2S as many have done.
A very good point you make. Thank God I am such a hesitant, patient, doubting old geezer that I managed to wait this long for what looks to me like the final, definitive drone for entry into the hobby without having travel and weight concerns. 😉

Hey folks, when you shoot on a Mavic 3 with HLG profile, do you grade it in 709? RUclips has problems if i edit and export in Rec2100
from what I seen they use .709 // Also question so you have Mavic 3? Did you noticed that dron led control options is gone from the settings?
