Hi Fextralife, who has better spells/items from a pure acquisition standpoint: Confessor or Prophet? I've always played a strength/faith paladin in the Souls series and on confessor or prophet I can just level the attributes I need so stats aren't very important to me. I just don't want to lose out on a very expensive prayer or mid-game shield, ect.
Tip for the vagabond class: you fat roll because you begin with the longsword and the halberd equipped. Just unequip the halberd and you won't fat roll.
Love my tank build. He can one hit kill most enemies. Takes a ton of damage to kill. Only downside is fat roll but I have been upgrading endurance so I can carry more weight and armor.
The Confessor is more like a classic Paladin, as the class uses Incantations (formerly known as Miracles), which mostly fit the role of supportive holy spells. (While the Prisoner - in terms of stats and equip - fits the role of a dextrous spellblade, who's both good in fighting with melee weapons and casting intellegence-based spells.)
I love how finally, after all these years, a sorcery build is not only beginner-friendly, but recommended. We've waited long, my mage build brothers, but the day is finally upon us.
@@ilovemgs4 In Demons Souls firestorm one-shots bosses and death cloud lets you just stand in an unseen position while the enemy slowly dies. You can even cheese the final boss with poison cloud.
@@CVHFitness magic made Demon Souls stupid easy. I hope that’s not the case with ER. I don’t mind Magic being the defacto easier setting but Demon Souls was a cake walk setting.
@@mgarwatoski 100% agree. It’s pretty fun, though, there’s no denying that. If you want slightly more challenge but with insane damage then ply with the crescent falchion. Will still one shot dreglings and archers with even a quick R1 on NG+3, but it has an awesome move set (especially 2 handed) and still requires dodging skill to use. Using that against Flamelurker in NG+2 and NG+3 were two of the most exhilarating experiences I’ve had.
OOO LOO LOO OOGA LOOGA BINGA BONG DIPWONG DING!!!! *Springs from the bushes in a naked onslaught of confusing anger* The only thing you have to worry about is being stabbed blind by the sheer ludeness of the attack. Such is the way of a true gamer. Such is the way of the wretch.
Arguably the strongest class in the game. Obviously the best for respecs, the lack of levels is fine because the early levels are almost free. It’s just the lack of starting equipment (causing an annoying early game) but you could easily snag a bunch of equipment without even a need to fight. Really regret my decision to not pick wretch
@@monhi64 Wretch is the best class for a first playthrough, it gives you unparallel freedom when building and respecting, and it allows you to try any build without major stat losses.
I just want to say, if you’re a new player: play whatever looks cool. Just know some starting classes are harder than others but you will learn. We need to stop telling new players to not play certain things because they might be difficult for them. Other than that the video is amazingly informative so thank you!
I’ll be playing as a confessor to start. My only advice for new players is don’t get discouraged by dying, you will, a lot. Use this open world to help advance you and come back later or keep pushing on until you learn how to defeat the enemy you want to kill.
@@papercutz28g98 enjoy the challenge but don't stress yourself over it either. I highly recommend not getting flustered by the craziness of these bosses or enemies. It'll be enjoyable still I promise. Lol.
@@TimNewmanGaming as a father of a 1 year old I like what you're saying. It'll be my first proper investment into this type of game. I'll be choosing confessor to start to get that 100% physical block and the extra flask too.
I’m really looking forward to the open world aspect of the game, one thing that stressed me out too much with demon souls was the fact you would go back to the beginning of the level when you die. Heart palpitations 😫
I’m taking on Elden Ring as my first soulsborne and after sampling the relevant RUclips channels I think this is my favorite as far as explaining things clearly. It’s nice to hear info in a way that assumes I haven’t been living in a cave, but I’m just not familiar with some of the nuances of this genre. This does a good job of explaining what each class is trying to achieve, and what that means for experienced and new players.
this is my first soulsborne game as well i cant wait for it to finish downloading, i'm excited and this channel is really good i have been watching him since divinity original sin 2 helped me a lot
@@mr_hajir24-78 if you like stealth gameplay then Bandit class is good for you. Otherwise, this class won't help much in neither hand to hand fight nor magical incantations. On the other hand, prisoner is a versatile class. You can become a swordmaster, spell caster or both.
I played Demon's Souls as a healing knight type, so Confessor sounds up my alley. Astrologer is tempting though as I never learned into magic. In Dark Souls I just hit everything with a massive sword. Do appreciate this guide.
Just booting it up and I usually go with a knight/faith quality build. I start with the chunky armor, then work my way up to faith magic mid game and leave the helmet off. That’s been my Demon Souks build and DS3. But the Confessor seems just that, but at the start with less grinding. I think I’m going with that for a new experience. Read a lot early on changed from Vagabond to Confessor. Due to the many spells and strong magic early on. All you can do is sell them, and level up to wait, and boost in magic.
I'm going to start as a Vagabond for that great stat distribution, but I'll immediately drop all weapons and armour, that way I get that wretched feel where every new item is truly appreciated.
literally don't understand what the deal is with everyone's major hardon for wretch, "ReEeeEeeeeEEEEE iM sUcH a GaMeR i ArTiFiCiAlLy iNcReAsE tHe DiFfIcUlTy In A dUmB wAy"
@BigfootUnibrowMan sure but a lot of this is to start, and PVE. Plus there's no info on what's the best min max build yet so why not try random things you enjoy
Uchigatana has always served me well in the souls games. Looks like I'll be sticking with old faithful for my first playthru. Dual scimitars are also very tempting though so there may be a switch mid game
I've never played a Fromsoft game before and went with Wretch. It was tough, but I think I had a lot more fun as a new player that way because it really forced me to learn all the mechanics. I'll just have to re-roll my stats later so I can better optimize them for the weapons and armor I want to use after having progressed through most of the game.
Confessor it is. Paladin has always been my choice in games for hybrid strength/magic build but playing something other than paladin is definitely pretty cool
I think vagabond turns out to be a better "paladin" type start if you wanna cast incantations a lot with a knightly look and a bit of sword and board action, the stat allocation seems great for that, just spend your first early levels buffing up faith and mind
@@KaianVestra I see your point and the only down side is 2 reasons. 1. low arcane or item discovery so lower chances of finding awesome fashion to wear 2. Finding incantations among the world, maybe not so bad depends on player Confessor has that paladin/ rogue feel, which in all honesty is awesome. But full blown paladin definitely vagabond is the best way.
the armour looks awesome as well. think I might start with this. The Prisoner has the best spell though IMO, and the helm is really cool. It's between Confessor and Prisoner for me.
The Wretch doesn't seem to have an advantage in stats. It seems like either the "go-to" build if you don't know what you want or want more difficulty. If you DO know what you want then any of the other classes are better from a min-max perspective. Confessor's don't want Int, so they drop a point there, ect.
Yes, But Wretch is great for flexibility if you want to try out many diffrent builds. And use the respec feature. Sure the builds will never be optimal but it might be more optimal than if you use a starting class that start with very low stats for the build you want to respec into.
Because the wretched starts at level one, you will be able to achieve a higher stat total and a more customized stat array than starting with a different class. Basically allows for "optimal" builds with no water stats
@@squatdiddly2120 incorrect, it starts at level 1 but it has a stat spread that dips into things that u may not want if u truly want to be optimal. can test for yourself, vagabond starts at level 9 but its stats are put into things youre going to want to put stats into anyways if youre going a quality build (vigor end strength and dex) with less wasted stats in arcane faith and int than wretched has. wretched will force u to waste points in magic if u dont want to use magic
I'm starting Wretch so that all gear I find will be meaningful, if I were to start with Samurai for example, I would ignore a lot of the loot I pick up because it doesn't fit my style. But as a Wretch, I will find use in everything I find and it will make exploring the Lands Between even more meaningful for my first playthrough.
You are the go-to for these kinds of videos. I swear you don't even intro bro, 1 second in and you're already clocked in, on the job, doing exactly what the title of the video says. Real professional shit. Zero theatrics.
if you were to summarize each of these origins in a stereotypical rpg way, it would go like this: Vagabond: Tank Warrior: Agile/quick fighter Hero: Barbarian Bandit: Rogue Astrologer: Mage Prophet: Healer/Mage Confessor: Paladin (Warrior & Faith Mage hybrid) Prisoner: Same as Confessor more leaning more towards dexterity (quickness) and intelligence based magic Samurai: Ranger (from D&D) well versed all-rounder in-terms of physical combat Wretch: build your own specific build if none of the previous origins apply to it.
I’m starting Wretch even though I have never played a souls type game. I like the extra challenge and I’d like to look back at my character after hours of gameplay and see the progression.
Wretch is also great for the first playthrough, as it forces you to scrounge for equipment and use what you get. Other classes run the risk of just typecasting you into the few pieces of gear you use from start to finish.
a couple points of missed info: the bandits starting dagger also inflicts bleed. (I think the bleed value is 31) and the reduvia can be acquired immediately after creation, which also inflicts 59 bleed or something and can be power stanced. its not actually a backstab pigeonhole. definitely do not remove an armor piece from the vagabond if youre new, remove one of your weapons instead. his broadsword swings faster and actually does really good poise damage so I removed his polearm thing. the samurai class is by far the most beginner friendly class in the game, regardless of being melee. it encourages the use of ashes of war, does insane damage, bleeds, and attacks fast. its not a coincidence that it was everyones starting class. the astrologer is really not that good and not that fun to play early. you get 2 sorceries; glintstone arc eats your fp bar and doesn't deal much damage, and glintstone pebble gets input-dodged everytime you cast it. (which means you have to bait enemy attacks, completely removing your range advantage. additionally, this class has like 4 less life flasks because theyre allocated to your fp flasks, making you that much more vulnerable.) astrologer doesn't pop off until after Liurnia, where you can find a lot of sorceries and other mage-related items. its also the only real ranged play style which means the things you learn on astrologer won't translate very well to other characters. blocking in this game isn't as good as any other souls-like. not recommending a certain class because the shield "doesn't mitigate 100% physical damage" is a weird excuse I've heard so many times. everyone will tell you to two-hand a weapon anyway. just learn to dodge-roll, blocking 2 attacks will usually stance break you anyway. point being: a class isn't harder or easier because of their shield. if you ARE determined to use a shield, you need to get the "barricade shield" ash of war. there are more golden seeds than you can use in the game, so if youre comfortable without an extra starting flask you could consider an alternative. something that people don't talk about is the cracked pot starting gift, there are only so many in the game and if you like consumables like I do, its really nice to have an extra.
Confessor doesn’t seem like a bad option since I am a new player. However, I’m leaning towards the Prisoner because magic/blade sounds really cool and fun play-style that I want to pursue. I think I might start with paladin get the game down a little bit and start a prisoner build. Thanks for the great informative video!
I think you're presenting the best Elden Ring class selection guide that's on RUclips right now - well done!! I started out as an Astrologer, building toward a spellsword. Foolishly took the runes as my item because it's all cryptic at that point and I was still avoiding spoilers. Keep up the great work!
I think I'll start as the confessor on my first playthrough. I want that mix of melee and magic abilities. I think this will be a good starting point to a balanced character, being able to switch it up depending on different enemy weaknesses.
@@Luke-rw2kv why not all of the above? I doubt most people are planning on min/maxing their first character. Also seeing as ds3 had a respec, it would surprise me if ER being so much bigger didn’t also have that option late game.
So the Bandit class might be the classic playing dirty rogue surviving with only luck kinda dude where loot is the ultimate gain, and the Confessor is like a paladin/ rogue where it sneaks and buffs for damage to smite his foes to make a easygoing path. Either way its dope. For min/maxing and more magic potential I'll say Confessor, for a elite roleplaying experience where you can collect fashions of trinkets and epic moments of success I'll say Bandit. In other words. Confessor will spank harder and their slay enemies like a thunderous shadow While The Bandit will slay a dragon with a dagger only to find the bones make a fine bow
For me as soon as he said bandits get more loot I immediately decided to pick bandit but I feel like when I start to the game I will rage quit from dying like I did with dark souls all because I picked a class that was cool for roleplaying but not good for unexperienced players
@@sergeantpug3383 im playing bandit and is is definetly hard mode compared to others weapons right now. Im getting smashed but maybe im not useing all my utilities like bow and shit
I'm pretty sure I'm going with Bandit... always love the thief class. Dagger and bows = 👍🏽. But Prisoner is tempting, because I like (or actually hate) Griffith. And Samurai, because it's newish. Always like daggers and katanas, so I'm torn.
Yeah i'm doing bandit but there's always the issue of zones and enemies being highly immune to backstab/sharp damage/arrows, requiring either faith, blessing, or blunt damage. Maybe there will be a workaround in this game using stance breaks and other items but I doubt it
@@Mike-hw5jp you're doubting if Elden Ring is going to offer work arounds to the limitations on your gear? The game the is applying the stealth and poise breaks from sekiro into the framework? The game that's already confirmed to offer up for more choice and accessibility than any of it's predecessors?
Also torn between Bandit and Prisoner. With sneak being a thing in this game Bandit is very tempting but I want to see what magic is like so I'm going Prisoner.
Started with Prisoner and loving it. Decent starting weapon with a good weapon skill, good starting sorcery with decent damage, plenty of stamina for casting, attacking or rolling. Plus! You get a neat mask!
The best part? It's the probably the most optimal stat spread for a high level mage build. Never look at the best stats of a character, but the worst ones and pick a class with weaknesses in areas you don't intend to use.
I started as a confessor, and well, here I am…finding a more beginner class. I like to hit stuff, but looks like astrologer will work better for my first play through - I hope -. Thank you for this!
New player here. I chose Hero after reading a guide that recommended it as a new starter. The advice in this video is on point - the hero class was difficult to start with because close combat is very unforgiving.
Great guide, I can’t wait to dive in! I’m torn between the confessor and samurai. I’ve played faith builds and liked it, but the samurai seems like a fun sekiro type build. Either way, can’t wait to play this and I’m really excited about the steel book!
God this helped out so much instead of just showing gameplay and talking. You actually showed what you were referring to and dumbed it down for us beginners or new players. I could never finish a full play through but I’m hopeful.
Playing with the warrior I find it sometimes better to just 2 hand instead of dual wielding. Advantages include not bouncing off shields and better poise damage.
Thank you for making my mind up for me. I'll be one of those new to the genre, so for me i've finally made the decision with help to go with confessor and golden seed. Great vid, thanks again.
I was going to go Prisoner and let my wife take the Confessor noob class, but the art style and starting stats are just too good not to use for a first playthrough. I feel like the shield looks too op for it to be much fun.
My favorite is the prophet, because the short spear is a fantastic weapon, and you'll find a number of enemies in the early game that are weak against fire. Having a fire spell off the bat is a lot better than having to burn grease or bombs
Definitely picking wretch. I want to explore and play with weapons I find and pick up. And then maybe go tri-quality with equal stats in strength dex and one of the spell choices.
Same. I've picked the naked class in every game except demon souls. I was always a thief in that. Looking forward to seeing that jockstrap until I club the pants off of someone.😂
Probably gonna pick up the Samurai, cuz of the good starting weapon and because I really don't wanna play with shield. I'm very interested in playing the "mage" class as well but I might feel cheesy killing everything from range.. so first playthrough melee build!
Ehh mage is really cheesy until it’s not, and then it’s really not. If something manages to close the distance to you I one way or another, you’re suddenly in for a world of hurt. Especially if you’re a new player and haven’t learned the combat system because you’ve been keeping everything at bay. Spells are a real crutch, which is the main reason I don’t recommend them for new players- they don’t encourage you to learn combat mechanics.
@@Crunchatize_Me_Senpai Well its just my personal opinion.. Everyone should play how they want.. But especially now with the ashes summons, which keep the enemy away from you, magic build feels even more cheesy. I went dex build, am a new player, have no experience with controller at all and already played thorough about half the game so far... So its doable and I really love the catanas sheathe attack! Its so good..
@@MaximusProxi Oh, yeah, I was just saying, if it’s something you’re interested in trying out, don’t be discouraged just because it seems like easy mode. Most boss fights will still be pretty hard, since you can’t maintain distance from them, or guarantee that they’ll stay aggroed onto other players/spirits, and a lot of regular enemies close distance really quickly, or dodge spells. You’ll have some difficult encounters either way. It does make some things easier, though.
I feel like Samurai is going to be the best for me as well. Probably able to try a decent amount of weapons. Really hoping for a Greatsword that scales off dex. Eventually going to pimp INT or Faith.
Great video. I decided to start the game with a Prophet, a confessor, a hero and a bandit. So far, hero grinded through level ups fairly fast surprisingly. Going to make my astrologer today. Ty for this vid!
Torn between the two and Samauri, liking Dex Builds with bows, to boot! I'm a Souls vet, which it sounds like you are, too... I'll probably end up going with Vagabond, lowering my weight below 70%, by far! trying for a 50%-60% weight, max!
I agree, but isn’t the incantation item confessor starts with a huge boon? We don’t know how far into the game say the vagabond would have access to it. That’s my concern
That’s what I thought too. Assassins approach spell seems to hunt that confessor will have spells similar to muffle and invisibility/chameleon from the souls games. Confessor will be more faith assassin than paladin imo
As a "Souls veteran," new gamers, I'd listen to what Cass, of Fextralife, recommends. You can start like I'm still debating starting as and switch over to a completely different Class and you still get to restat your character later. So, go with your heart's desire and if I were just starting out? I'd go Vagabond (lower wt down), Astrologer or Confessor and have fun! Regarding your gift, the additional flask is a good one, too! Basically what is recommended!
You're gonna love it. Just embrace the pain, and seek insight from the excellent community. It's one of the strongest, most helpful communities in all of gaming. Fex is always right on time too with the wiki pages and helpful vids.
Great to have you join the SoulsBorne community! hope you enjoy the game, and remember... don't give up, while it may seem difficult at the start it will get easier, knowledge is power in these games. Fromsoftware are unparalleled when it comes to combat and boss design imo, and in giving the player a feeling of improvement.
I'm a new player and appreciate this video, very helpful with learning about the classes, but I'm gonna go with prisoner cos it sounds cool to me and I don't see why I wouldn't be able to get better over time
Just because you want your character to play that way doesn't mean you can't by starting off with a different starting class. In souls games, 99% of the time you can essentially take any starting character and turn it into any build. If this is truly your first souls game, then don't worry about what sounds cool. After the first 10 hours or so your starting character really won't matter as you can turn any starting class into just about anything you want. No need to make it harder on yourself, especially if this is your first time around. Souls games can be spirit crushingly difficult for a lot.
Think of Prisoner class as an Assassin. Its starting stats are reflecting that sort of play style. However, like others have stated, you don’t have to go that route if it doesn’t appeal to you and you can turn it into whatever build you desire. My best advise: choose a weapon or two you REALLY mesh with and build your stats to augment that weapon(s) scaling. This includes the magic catalysts as well if you decide to go magic.
The only difference if you start with the 'wrong' class for your build, is that it will take a few extra levels to reach a certain power level or be able to equip a certain item. Basically it's the same as if you allocated stats in the wrong attribute in any other rpg.
Played samurai at launch, and was surprised at how beginner friendly it was. Started a second character as an astrologer to be my mage. Randomly made a third and fourth for nothing more than cosmetics, the prisoner and hero, namely because the prisoner's shirt by itself and the hero outfit looked good on my characters. :P
(Edit: I was wrong, the starting item does give you two keys, I didn’t catch the description.) The Stone Key thing actually doesn’t let you unlock that room straight from the get-go. You need two keys. If you look closely at it, there are two imps on top of each other, signifying that you need two keys, and if you try to open it with one, it tells you “not enough”. You get a second one pretty early on if you know where to go, though, so you can come back earlier than you would have been able to.
The gift claims to give you two keys. Is that not true? Either way, using them on the first imp door seems to be a bad idea - there doesn't really seem to be much in that area worth getting compared to other imp doors.
@@foolsgold5588 Yeah I noticed when I made a new character that it does say there are two. I assumed it was just one because it says “key” and not “keys”, but I guess that’s how it’s always worded it in these games. But yeah, the only thing worth getting in there is a golden seed, but you have to beat one of the most frustrating boss fights I’ve encountered so far to get it.
Thank you for being straight forward and to the point. Your video helped me better understand the class guide for when I begin Elden Ring for the first time. 👍🏼
I love that you upload this video before the game's release. this will be a big help. Thank you. You're my go to trusted guide, I've been watching your vids since demons souls (ps5).
I've been following you guys almost since your wiki first began and it's such a cool feeling being part of the community for all the fromsoft games, especially now with Elden Ring it looks like the penultimate experience after all these years
@@artemisp2819 I guess we'll see which direction they take after Elden Ring, who knows what else they might have up their sleeve😁 Sekiro was a very pleasant surprise after all the souls games and bloodborne, I feel that they are capable of creating many more awesome games after Elden Ring
This gonna be my first souls game and I think I’m going wretch. I wanna learn all I can and see major progress in my character since I’ve been told this game is a major grinder that takes time💯
First time souls player and the samurai caught my eye. I had to do some research before making my decision but it sounds like the way to go. I want the challenge of dodging and the ranged combat sounds nice
Does look it, I have to admit! If you do get a cool style going, Bloodronin4life is doing an Elden Ring "best fashions creation" series for Elden Ring styles, where people can put up their armor and fashion creations. No money involved, yet... But, it'd be neat to see what others are coming up with!
I started with a Vagabond as my first. Level 76 right now. Started up a confessor and a prisoner to play with magic. Have them both parked at Waypoint Ruins to farm the 2 ogres pulling the carriage, when I need a break from my main class.
As someone who's been playing FromSoft games for over a decade, I'm going to choose Wretch as my starting class. I want to have a unique experience that entails me to use whatever I can find and try out all the new stuff all while exploring the Lands Between to my heart's content.
@@taters9545 i think its kind of in between since its an open world you have more options and you can do what u want and when u want. The combat seems to be very similar to ds3 so if thats what u struggled with, i assume it will be a little easier with the jump attacks but it will be relatively the same other than that
Quick important questions: are u able to re spec your character's skill points??? is it possible to remake your character's appearance mid game? I know these two things are available on DS3 and it wouldn't surprise me if it was here too but I would most certainly be happy to have a 100% confirmation about this matter. Thanks!
I'll say based on the Iron Pineapple review that yes, you can respec multiple times and upgrading materials are abundant. Don't know about appearence tho.
Wow. So helpful New player here to the from software style. Let me just say, you guys are applauded because these games are ridiculously hard compared to my Horizon Forbidden West Playthrough right now lol. I started out as a confessor, but can't seem to do well in melee combat. I'm switching to an astrologer after listening to this video for a more ranged approach. I appreciate the time and effort of this video. Thank you!
I’ve never played any games like this but bought it ! I thought to myself omg what did I do lol then I remembered how descriptive and helpful you are ! Thanks for this ! Wish me luck 🍀
Just keep trying when the game kicks your ass into oblivion. you’ll learn from your mistakes and feel amazing when you get pass the challenges that are holding you back. this studio is amazing
I was thinking about starting with Vagabond since it seems closer to the "Bloody Wolf" shown in the trailers/promos and I like the backstory of the "exiled knight" but I also REALLY wanna try out the magic attacks.
Ive been aware of the souls games for the longest time, have never touched them myself though. So this may be a mistake, but I'm bound and determined to play warrior, that fast attacking dual wielding style just appeals to me on all levels. I'm ready to get my ass kicked as I attempt to get used to the playstyle lol
you sound like me playing video games, i dont conform to metas as much i like to use what i like the best and just keep trying til i get it eventually, it aint much but it's honest work
Yeah you’ll die a lot, but learn from your mistakes. When you get pass whatever’s challenging you. It’s the best feeling in the world with these games. Good luck! Hope you love it!
I never played a souls game before, and i chose the warrior too 🥲 But hey, the damage is crazy and it’s so cool. Died like over 30 times and still can’t defeat this one boss in the grove cave LMFAO
I really like the bandit class, well the sound of it. Never played a dark souls game before. I heared of them.of course.. when i buy it I might killing myself... but it looks so cool
Thank you for this, this will be my first souls game and I wasn't sure where to start. Now I'm just torn on being a Paladin or going the Prisoner route.
Do you prefer to use nearly any weapon you like while healing yourself and dealibg devastating blows with huge AoE miracles? Then you go with Confessor. Wanna start right out the gate with a consistent rapier, get the hang of dodging and stealthing, use nimble and agile weapons while throwing precise and deadly soul spells? Go Prisoner. There isn't a wrong way to go on these games, i'm just here to help with you decision.
Assuming you mean to play them through without changing playstyles, then it's really a question of do you prefer the miracles or sorceries in the game? Astrologer & Prophet are the pure casters, Prisoner & Confessor are the spell-sword hybrids of the former two.
@@heyfell4301 Thanks, with that I will absolutely go Confessor. I want to try out as many weapons and spells as I can and I know I'll probably suck at dodging.
@@Kango234 even tho you'll probably have to learn how to dodge anyway, a good shield will keep you safe at the start of the game. Glad to help, new players are always welcome in the Souls community.
Basically if the souls you get after clearing an area don't reward you with enough souls to lvl up. But idk Abt Thai game since I haven't played it yet.
@@GypsyDanger2000 That's not soft-capping. Soft-caps are breakpoints where optimal stats are met before diminishing returns makes increasing said stat no longer worthwhile for most builds. More or less they're benchmarks for optimal builds.
you'll be able to tell just by looking at your stats as you level up. Past a certain point your AR/HP/Stamina etc will start going up by much smaller amounts per point invested
When you level up you can see in real time what affect a level up will have on the chosen stat before you confirm your choice. Eventually each level after a certain point will result in less gain. So for instance if each tim you level Vigor you get 50 HP, eventually you will get to a point where each level of Vigor will only give you 25 HP, thats a softcap and you can see it in real time. All stats have softcaps you just have to pay attention to your stats when leveling. Hope this is helpful
Good question. I was wondering that, too. I may check out Fextralife or a couple of other sites and even use some of my Souls' manuals to see if I can catch where the diminishing returns are, basically, hoping the digital manual one gets, with pre-order, will break them down though...
You will be -1 basically. As mentioned it's for people who are new or those playing casters as more fp will be easier during bosses. The amount of seeds you get in game will be fixed
Question: Do the casters have low hp? My biggest concern as a new player is staying alive given the difficulty. However the vagabond which i was thinking of using for that reason, seems limited for magic use. Magic, at least from what i can understand, is very powerful and useful to newcomers. Im stuck beteween the vagabond, confesor, ad astrologer. Is there a way through stats to combine the confessor and Vagabond? Can anyone give me anymore insight? Thanks.
Never played a Souls game before, but played alot of DnD so class making is always fun. Planning on starting vagabound and building into faith/strength as I progress for a Paladin typa build... Confessor looks sick, but I wanna start tanky and slowly build in the faith
Edit: i misinterpreted the "slowly" and thought you were talking about a slower character. Still, my advice can help you nonetheless. I don't recommend you get the "slow" part very serious. Speed is in the core of the game's combat, you'll wanna have at least enought agility to dodge the attacks. If you want a tip, unequip the weapon you like the least, be it the sword or the halberd (unequip your helmet too in case it's the halberd), then you'll be able to avoid nicely any attack you can't dodge. Don't forget to level your endurance so you can get better armor. Think it as a: "if your equip load is above 70.0, you'll get -3 to AC"
Notice with the vagabond just removing one of your weapons should be sufficient to putting you into med rolling. It's starting weapons are also exceptionally versatile featuring good thrust rapid strike and sweeping hits. The halberd also has good range compared to most other melee weapons perhaps only outmatched in that regard by the spear.
It's literally a church spy adept at covert operations. The fact that there's a stealth incantation shows just how much more viable a faith build will be this time around.
I wanted to make a Stealth Mage but didn't like how a staff is required... Sneaking around with a big stick. But the finger seal seems stealthy. And assassin's approach is an incantation? Now I'm definitely going Faith / Dex!
I'm going for a Samurai/Spell Sword type build. I absolutely love the Samurai class, the armor is great, starting with the uchigatana is so much fun. Having high dex is really nice for both dex weapons and spell casting. I just have to pump a few points into intelligence, find a staff and the first spell vendor and I'm on my way. I'll probably do a pure strength build at some point, a pure magic or incantation build at some point, but trying to do both melee and magic with such a unique starting class is hard to pass up. Prisoner or Confessor seems great for second playthrough. I feel I'll be playing this for months and months to come. I can't put it down, I can't stop thinking about it, I can't wait to get back to it.

The Confessor is more like a classic Paladin, as the class uses Incantations (formerly known as Miracles), which mostly fit the role of supportive holy spells. Confessor it is. Paladin has always been my choice in games for hybrid strength/magic build but playing something other than paladin is definitely pretty cool
You've talked me into playing Confessor with that paladin comparison
yeah I may have to create a templar type knight.
1. low arcane or item discovery so lower chances of finding awesome fashion to wear
2. Finding incantations among the world, maybe not so bad depends on player
Confessor has that paladin/ rogue feel, which in all honesty is awesome.
But full blown paladin definitely vagabond is the best way.
Lmao right
the armour looks awesome as well. think I might start with this.
But as a Wretch, I will find use in everything I find and it will make exploring the Lands Between even more meaningful for my first playthrough.

if you were to summarize each of these origins in a stereotypical rpg way, it would go like this:
Vagabond: Tank
Warrior: Agile/quick fighter
Hero: Barbarian
Bandit: Rogue
Astrologer: Mage
Prophet: Healer/Mage
Confessor: Paladin (Warrior & Faith Mage hybrid)
Prisoner: Same as Confessor more leaning more towards dexterity (quickness) and intelligence based magic
Samurai: Ranger (from D&D) well versed all-rounder in-terms of physical combat
Wretch: build your own specific build if none of the previous origins apply to it.
I’m starting Wretch even though I have never played a souls type game. I like the extra challenge and I’d like to look back at my character after hours of gameplay and see the progression.
how is it going so far lmao
Wretch is also great for the first playthrough, as it forces you to scrounge for equipment and use what you get. Other classes run the risk of just typecasting you into the few pieces of gear you use from start to finish.

a couple points of missed info:
the bandits starting dagger also inflicts bleed.
So the Bandit class might be the classic playing dirty rogue surviving with only luck kinda dude where loot is the ultimate gain, and the Confessor is like a paladin/ rogue where it sneaks and buffs for damage to smite his foes to make a easygoing path.

@@MaximusProxi Oh, yeah, I was just saying, if it’s something you’re interested in trying out, don’t be discouraged just because it seems like easy mode.
This is the right choice. You’ll do fine!
That's the spirit. Git gud friend.
Awesome. Usually it takes me a few tries before I find a video this helpful. Great work. Thank you for breaking this down so well.
I've been following you guys almost since your wiki first began and it's such a cool feeling being part of the community for all the fromsoft games, especially now with Elden Ring it looks like the penultimate experience after all these years
The second to last experience?
This is much better guide than the other one I found they judged entirely on starting gear not on bases
Not going to lie, the confessor class has the best fashion souls starting armor. That drip is real.
Yeaaaa
Does look it, I have to admit! If you do get a cool style going, Bloodronin4life is doing an Elden Ring "best fashions creation" series for Elden Ring styles, where people can put up their armor and fashion creations. No money involved, yet... But, it'd be neat to see what others are coming up with!
@IONIZE boomer?
@IONIZE Fancy clothes, Jewelry, Swag, etc.
This is the way
Okay I’m new to the games like this and dark souls (I couldn’t get into dark souls) but this game looks different is it as hard as Dark Souls ???
@@taters9545 very hard
@@taters9545 it will be but you'll have more options in ways to play and stay out of bad situations
@@taters9545 i think its kind of in between since its an open world you have
more options and you can do what u want and when u want. The combat seems to be very similar to ds3 so if thats what u struggled with, i assume it will be a little easier with the jump attacks but it will be relatively the same other than that
Started as wretch, have not regretted it. Pumping stats to where I feel I've needed them.
You can do both
@@heyfell4301 u can appearance too! even gender swap pretty neat!
Wow.
So helpful
New player here to the from software style.
Thank you!
Agreed.
Confessor class felt like it left me with too many options as to where to go....
Astrologer has been fine yet still challenging for me this far.
Do you play on PS5 or what?
Vagabond would have been a better melee character.
It was to the point and amazing. I guess I'll either go with prisoner, or astrologer.
Prisoner has a great starting spell. I just wonder when we get our first 100% damage block shield, as it's always nice to have a shield just in case.
2 hours to go and I'm shaking with anticipation
I love quality builds so I'm going with Vagabond for sure, he looks cool af.
No wasted points in faith and arcane. I'm right with you as someone who always plays quality.
What is a quality build?

Elden Ring class archetypes (stats & equip):
Hero: = Barbarian/Berserker
Bandit = Thief/Rogue/(Assassin)
Astrologer = Sorcerer/Mage
Warrior = Mercenary/Swordsman/(Assassin)
Prisoner = Spellblade
Confessor = Paladin
Wretch = Deprived
Vagabond = Knight/Warrior
Prophet = Cleric/Priest
Samurai = itself/(Hunter!?)
I was thinking about starting with Vagabond since it seems closer to the "Bloody Wolf" shown in the trailers/promos and I like the backstory of the "exiled knight" but I also REALLY wanna try out the magic attacks.
Up a bit of Int or specially Faith and you're good to go. The class won't limit you and there's not much reason to min-max.
Google guts from berserk for the inspiration lol
@@ToreiGaming I am literally such a big Guts fan that I build my knights in dark souls based on him, so I’ll be choosing vagabond for sure 😂
Excellent coverage of the basics for each class! Thank you!
Ive been aware of the souls games for the longest time, have never touched them myself though. So this may be a mistake, but I'm bound and determined to play warrior, that fast attacking dual wielding style just appeals to me on all levels. I'm ready to get my ass kicked as I attempt to get used to the playstyle lol
you sound like me playing video games, i dont conform to metas as much i like to use what i like the best and just keep trying til i get it eventually, it aint much but it's honest work
You probably know already that Souls games are designed to kick your ass, so don't get discouraged
Made a warrior.... 1st time Souls player and so far so good, level 17.
Leaning towards warrior or confessor which would you recommend?
@@heyfell4301 Would a prisoner be able to use a spear and/or parry?
I’m gonna build to 40 in all stats. Well rounded wretch build. Lesss go!
How do you determine what the soft caps are? How can you tell when you're at the point of diminishing returns?
Aaaaand subscribed. Love the way you explain everything. Thank you.
Great video!! This gonna be so lit
Thank you for this video. I know exactly im gonna pick now bc this is my first time playing an game like this.
Is taking the golden seed at the start your only chance to get an extra flask? Or will you still have as many in the end game without it?
You will be -1 basically. As mentioned it's for people who are new or those playing casters as more fp will be easier during bosses. The amount of seeds you get in game will be fixed
Just got the game and about to start playing. Wish me luck.
Thanks.
Vigor stat is directly linked to health. So the higher the vigor stat of that class the higher the health. Hope this helps
This is the exact set of classes I'm trying to make a decision on.
Fantastic video clean cut and precise
Never played a Souls game before, but played alot of DnD so class making is always fun. Planning on starting vagabound and building into faith/strength as I progress for a Paladin typa build... Confessor looks sick, but I wanna start tanky and slowly build in the faith
the difference is the classes in Elden Ring are fluid. they don't define you. you can change everything about them when you level up
Edit: i misinterpreted the "slowly" and thought you were talking about a slower character.
You should play Wretch for your first playthrough. It will make all loot you find meaningful
@@heyfell4301 Thanks, excited to feel it out and see what u mean!
@@t.t6294 Thats what I hear which is super cool! Still think it would be cool to stick with one archetype all the way through though!
I think the assassins approach fits perfect for the Confessor, confess your sins before your life ends😈

@@Shendowx And it starts with a whip like I've never seen that before.
As a new player, It is so helpful that you highlight the in game options that would be most beneficial for us!
