For dedicated spell casters, 40 Mind may as well be the “soft cap”. That’s 220 FP, equal to a max upgraded blue flask. Anything more is a one time bonus of FP per sitting at Grace. Maybe 45, just because you rarely drain yourself down to 0, but any more is a waste of the blue flask’s potential.
I actually push mine to 48 Mind and equip the Cerulean Seed Talisman. Allows me to spam a few more spells than I usually could without it and fill my bar to full from empty. Although the Primal Glintstone Blade reduces cost so I can blast more as well, I find the draw back of losing that much HP to be not worth it for my battlemage build. Also with that much fp recovery, I feel more comfortable having a couple more hp flasks. Obviously this is personal preference but I would say definitely worth the slot if you prefer more points in Mind.
@@rexoconnell7787 But drinking a flask and having it overflow is wasting FP technically. And it doesn't change anything because if you get a refill and use it that will give you the same amount of FP whether your bar is 220 or larger.
It feels extremely weird to refer to a point before a ramp up as a soft cap. A soft cap implies diminishing returns past that point, not increasing returns.
It doesn't have to have that implication. Tthe term soft cap comes from meaning a speculative minimum amount of funds required for a project. Its also used in sports, which I think is where that implication comes in. But that isn't locked into the word in an RPG context and doesn't really have a hard set meaning here. Threshold or breakpoint would have been clearer, but soft cap is not wrong.
just watch the entire video, his terminology might not be on point but he literally shows you the stat bonus trends on spreadsheets so you can make your own informed choice.... sheesh.
Seeking a light equipment mode may be preferential to medium depending on your attack style. A light load not only increases the distance and I-frames of a roll, but also increases walk/run movement speed. An excellent advantage to have when running around in PVP
Actually Light and Med roll have the same I-Frames and recovery - your roll and backstep just go further. Fat roll loses just one I-frame but has double the recovery.
@@ianpartrick8347 Yeah I saw a video earlier where you could see that the difference between medium and light is pretty unconvincing. It's a little disappointing since it's pretty hard to stay in light load but the sacrifice just doesn't seem to be worth it...

Dex is important for spellcasters too! Around every 20 Dex or so there is a noticeable decrease in your casting speed. This applies to sorceries and incantations (as well as melee as well ofc).
I've dipped my feet into From Soft's souls games and I never took the time to learn this stuff. Now that I have been hooked into Elden Ring for over 100 hours, I've learned the stats pretty well. I've just been going along and placing points into the correlating stats that line up with the gear that I want. My only issue is when i find a cool weapon that needs STR AND FAI and I'm like... faithfully bankrupt as i stare down level up costs around 160k lol. No battle-mage today.
@@alexgorman2798 yeah, i beat her n all that and have about 5 tears but i dont need to respec. I have what i need for now. Stats are as follows: 40,20,50,55,55,24,24. So far, im only having trouble with insane things like invisa-bosses and crucible knights.
I personally don't recommend going much past 40 mind, mainly because of the limit of how much a flask can refill. From my experience, 45-50 is the sweet spot for FP bar to tear restoration for mages.
Also one thing with strength you never mentioned that is also in Dark souls, two-handing a weapon gives you a 1.5x boost to your strength which is why if you have 12 and need 18 to wield a weapon, you can only wield it properly by two handing. 12 x 1.5 = 18, so when putting this into consideration (which by the way the boost is only with strength) if you know you are going to just be running around two handing a big ass weapon then you really only need 66 strength, because when you two hand its the equivalent to 99 strength, and you cant go further than that if you raise your strength past that and two hand it. Edit: Yeah nevermind this game added that you can go further than 99, up to a theoretical 148.5 when two handing
He also didn't cover the quality build, where you split between Dex and Strength - there are similar builds that are strength with faith or strength with int, too. Never mind that weapon affinity can be swapped with your ashes of war.
Ds2 also introduced powerstancing, requiring 1.5×STR AND 1.5×DEX the higher requirement if your weapons. So, to powerstance shortswords (I think it's 10/12 or 10/7, I don't remember), you need 15/18 STR/DEX, and 2 Shortswords. Powerstancing causes you to attack with both weapons with L1. L2 still parries if your weapon has that animation, and the R buttons only attack with the right hand weapon. This was mostly replaced in DS3 with the Twinned weapons. Or the Farron Greatsword.
Hmm strange, back in DS3 we used to call the first fall off in stats as the softcap, and the second fall of as hardcap as everything beyond that didn’t make a lot of sense leveling. I mean, it’s pretty clear that you can’t go beyond 99, so that way it was easier to differentiate between those two caps, instead of calling it Softcap 1 or 2.
@@RobleViejo seen some fierce debates erupt online over this lol, meanwhile just sitting there confused working off old definitions like “why ya’ll fighting? Just semantics lol all mean same thing still”
I can't explain how unfathomably helpful this video is. You go through each stat in such crisp, clear, 4K detail...It's incredibly appreciated! Thank you so much! I've been dumping levels into Dex as I figured...More points is more good. May need to reconsider.
The best part about Elden Ring is, if you have Radagon scarseal + Marika scarseal + Godrick great rune at level 1, you would be at level 81 just form the stat boost. Also including the other talismans in the game you can round up to level 91
You can also do double stat boosting tear for another 20 level equivalent or wear stat boosting gear for even more free levels However if you wear all 4 scar and woundseals it probably doesnt matter you are oneshot either way
8:04 "Unless you wanna be dual wielding giant colossal weapons with a great shield as your backup" That's....actually why I was here lol. Was trying to know the upper limit of medium so I could just equip what I want (Ruins GS x2 + Tomb Finger Shield) and determine what I endurance I need to reach.
One more thing I would like to add - there is very important faith spell that can cure rot & poison at same time, and it needs 12 faith to use. For this reason I like to have at least 12 faith as poison and rot buildup in this game is waaay too annoying :P
honestly a must have in every playthrought for me, finished the game three times once str once int and once dex build but all three with that spell as soon as possible, i love it haha
great video. I think doing one for lower levels, ie a guide for how to level up over the course of a normal play through would help a lot of players. Most of the time when people are asking about their stat distributions I see them at levels 40-60, and sometimes up to 90. By the time someone gets to the 120+ range they've usually got a handle on this stuff.
There's a good rule of thumb for that. Based on how damage scales in ER most of your early damage increases will come from weapon upgrades, because the stat scaling on weapons improves with upgrade levels and is pretty abysmal on unupgraded weapons. So starting out, do it like this: Put as many points into STR/DEX/INT/FTH/ARC as you need to wield the gear you want to use. No more! Put the rest into VIG/MND/END with a priority on VIG. I've seen too many people pump one of the "damage stats" early for at that point very marginal increases in damage, all while struggling with encounters because they get 1- or 2-shot due to low vigor.
That was.... incredibly useful. Thank you! After sinking 60 into Int I was wondering what the diminishing returns were. I play an Astrologer and have been focused almost exclusively on Int followed by Mind at about a 3:1 ratio. I really appreciate your video, I learned a lot! I must say, Elden Ring is a really weird game, it's quite odd to see a stat have diminishing returns, then increasing returns, then more diminishing returns. In academia we have a term for that... "What were the Devs smoking?"
One thing, you put Arcane down as a spellcaster stat but for the most part its far more of a bleed/poision scaling stat. It's a perquisite to use certain incantations and sorceries, however, except for the dragon communion casting tool it doesn't actually scale with any casting tools efficiently nor really have its own devoted casting spells, its kinda like when certain staves require strength to equip but for the spells themselves. Damage-wise it scales usually from weapons devoted to bleed or poison build up and it increases the build-up of the status effects. That is why the dragon communion scales off arcane as a large amount of them are status-effect based and the tool actually increases the build up of status effects caused by incantations more than usual (I think potentially ignoring madness but not tested to be certain). So really its the stat you want to pump up alongside the other relevant stat to your weapons/build. If you're doing a dagger-bleed build then your probably going to want to focus arcane and dex pretty equally for example. It's also worth noting that as a stat its pretty inconsistent and either feels broken or useless due to the inherent nature of different status effects being resisted/immune by different bosses and enemies. Especially rough during the early levels where your more reliant on the procs for your damage.
I just finished up my next video going over staves. While doing it, I noticed exactly what you mentioned. Arcane scaling with them is pretty poor. Definitely better used as a stat to increase your bleed build up in dex builds. Good call 👍
Hi, any weapon or tool with Arcane scaling will increase the status buildup of poison, bleed, sleep, and madness for the weapon, ash of war, or spell that inflicts it. Frostbite, death, and scarlet rot do not scale with Arcane. This applies to weapon buff spells if the spell catalyst scales with Arcane and weapon grease or buffing ashes of war if the weapon itself scales with Arcane.
There is also the Albinauric Staff for scaling sorceries with Arcane, similar to the dragon communion seal for incantations. It has the same limitation that it soft caps lower and doesn't help meet prerequisites, but is good if you decide to do a hybrid built instead of go all-in on arcane. Overall Arcane is the dabbler stat. It can scale any category of thing in the right circumstances, but for any one of those things there's a better stat array. Except statuses. That's the one thing Arcane is best at.
Absolute best guide about this I’ve found, because you actually explain how that translates to decisions beyond just going, “these are the soft caps, whatever the hell that means” (I now understand what that means, thanks to this video!)
This is the first best elden ring video I have come across that explains everything about stats. And I have been looking up videos since launch date. Thank you so much for this. Hope to see future videos for Elden Ring Builds or Guides.
Thanks a lot man, I was struggling with my stats since I started playing this game and now thanks to your explanation I can finally understand everything THAAAAAAAANKSSSSSSSSSSSS
This was really helpful, I've been messing around with builds (I made that dual wield colossal weapon with greatshield as backup) it was incredibly fun but I had no idea about where diminishing returns started this will help a great deal when starting my new characters
Light can definitely make a difference. I was having so much trouble of Morgott, with every single attack of his either one-hitting me, or stun locking me and killing me on a follow up attack, I threw off my pointless armor in a fit of rage and killed him in one naked attempt.
Except there's a lot of very crucial incorrect info, and the video is painfully long and not worth the viewers' time when putting all that into perspective. Needs more research before putting out content.
Nice vid, very helpful. I will note that being light most likely helps you to jump further. There were a couple of jumps I could not make while medium but easily cleared with light equip load.
I don't know if this is the case in Elden Ring really. Iam medium equipped and there is not a single jump I wasn't able to do. The trick is holding the runbutton while jumping. If you don't do that, it could be that the load actually has an effect. But it's at least not as hard as in older soulgames where heavy load made you slow and gave you shortjumps
@@Sandmann1193 One thing I've noticed, which may or may not have changed due to some of the patches they have put out, is that is seems your character will run slower with less END or a higher Equip Load. I felt like my crazy, dual axe-wielding Viking Berserker dude started running slower as I put on heavier armor. Then, when I leveled him up in END he seemed to run faster. I'm sure this is a thing.
that's an amazing video. i didn't know the little details about the progressive ramp up on some stats especially. i noticed something you didn't touch on at all is the peculiarity of strength scaling. indeed, just like all the other damage scaling stats, the typical softcaps are located at 20/40/60/80, and they will be more or less noticeable based on the weapon scaling. however, strength has a unique mechanic that completely throw out the window everything: two handing. when you are playing a weapon two handed, each level of strength is effectively 1.5 levels of strength for the damage scaling. this throws off many considerations as you reach your softcaps much earlier, and also this makes extra points of strength past those softcaps more valuable. if i take as an example a heavy giant crusher +25 with it's super high strength scaling. you need 40 str just to wield it two hands (effectively 60 str). from 40-50 str, you add ~7.1dmg/lvl. from 50-60 str, you add 4.1dmg/lvl. from 60-90 str, you get a flat 2.7dmg/lvl for a very long plateau of 30 levels. and it's only once you're trying to push it to 99 that you see a slight decrease and only gain 2.55 dmg per level... so once you have hit all the key values you need in the other stats, pushing past the effective 80 str softcap (~54 str when two handing) can still be worth it has it yields more than 2 points of damage per level, which will be further increased by any buff you use. going from 60 to 99 str is 39 levels, and add 104 dmg or an ~11.4% increase. the investment is not cost effective, but the final result is sizeable, 10% more damage means every 10 hits you land on a boss, there's one hit you won't have to land, and you're saving a bit of safety and time on that. compared to investing those 39 levels into, for example, vigor past the rank 60, gaining 200 hp from it (~10% increase too), and still getting killed by enemies in 3 hits anyways. similar thing with focus and endurance, once you have enough to cover your normal consumption and a bit of margin, adding more doesn't change a thing.
You’re correct in assuming that the equip load affects your i frames. With a faster roll you get more invincibility frames during the roll, although not necessary it is helpful if you don’t run a shield or heavy armor. You can easily get a light equip load with 40+ endurance as long as you stick with lighter gear, maybe some heavier pieces, but you just have to find a good mix that you can stand to look at. Currently I run the cleanrot greaves and gloves with Alberans cloak and the noble mask doing a int/faith build with a staff and talisman in each hand
black knife chest for no movement sound, any light greaves and gloves with no helmet for light load is beautiful can sprint past hoards of enemies undetected and use all those roll s
So... from what I understand about the term "soft cap" is that it represents a decision point with logical reasons for stopping there (diminished returns), when you also have the option to continue. In that line of reasoning, there is no such thing as a "soft cap" if the stat jumps UP, only if it jumps DOWN in value. I've heard people call spots where stats increase dramatically as "soft bottoms" or "soft starts" because usually you might put points into a stat kind of slowly, maybe just focusing what's needed for a spell or piece of gear, but then when you're close to the soft start, you START pumping that stat up hard because the value is too good to put anywhere else (depending on build).
Elden Ring is my first Souls/From Software game and while I absolutely love it, I needed explanations on hard and soft caps. Thanks for clearing that up, I still feel a bit like a baby lost in the woods with this game but still chugging along and loving it.
Unga Bunga builds are awesome because all what you need is just strength, vigor, endurance for some heavy armor, and maybe few pieces of mind for ashes summoning. And once you get after level 150, game will be pretty easy and less challenging in end game areas.
For the roll the difference are the recovery time , even at heavy roll you have the exact Iframe as light , just your recovery time is higher so you will get bubish 90% of the time at medium roll the recovery is the same as the light , at light roll your backstep has less recovery than medium. Also the distance of your roll are longer than medium . So i resume : - Heavy : less distance, same Iframe , higher recovery time -Medium : normal distance , same Iframe , normal recovery time -Light : Higher distance, same Iframe, normal recovery time, backstep has less recovery time then medium Hope it's useful

pro tip. if you're using the talisman radagon/marika sorecscal that give you +5 into stats, be mindful that you could be wasting 20 levels into stats. for example, if you want to get vigor at level 40 and that's it, the radagon sorescal give +5 into vigor. so keep vigor at 35 and give 5 levels elsewhere.
Eventually it's best to not depend on that talisman so much though cuz the damage negation debuff is tremendous when you reach the really tough enemies
Yo this was super helpful 👌 you broke it down precisely and i love the spread sheet. I didnt know soft caps were a thing but in this game i had a gut feeling that i was getting less as i was maxing stats
That’s debatable, it gives you a slightly longer roll. Thats it. I’d rather take 20% to 30% less damage across the board. I really want to like the longer roll, but the trade-off just never seems worth it whenever I experiment.
@@MasterfulPeon Most bosses have roll catches specifically designed for medium load rolls. With light rolls, you can easily roll out of otherwise unrollable moves.
1. great video! exactly what i was looking for. AND 2: im pretty sure this goes without saying, but TO NEW COMERS, this isnt a guide for soft caps for a one all be all build (hard cap yes at 99 everything, which i have never done in any souls game haha), its just showing soft caps per attribute. As in if you wanna use magic ur not gonna dump points into strength/dex.And vice versa with faith/intelligence if ur going for a hard hitting physical damage weapon character. The long and short of it is follow this guide and invest in points for the build you wanna specialize in, and not take this guide as a "oh if i dont max everything im gonna suck" vid. Not that Kami even intended to suggest thats what the vid is about hehe. loved it bro!
another thing to consider when using points in mind is your flasks when maxed out recover 220 mind. so unless you really min max with the spells you have you’ll like be wasting either mana flasks or both going above that if you don’t get full use of ur bar.
The second soft cap for mind isn’t at 50, i think you got stuck on 50 some how. But the soft cap is 55 because it kept going up until 55, not 50. Actually mind doesn’t soft cap at all until 55, at 20 you get even more points so it’s not a cap.
I didn't get why he called that a soft cap for mind either... The amount he started getting at those "caps" was increasing, not decreasing, from what he's shown the clear softcap would be 60, but no one needs that much FP.
There's actually a different way to think about FP/Mind, that's how much FP it gets you per rest. At 40mind, your FP pool is equal to the amount a maxed out flask restores, so gaining FP beyond that is only giving you that raw amount of 6 FP per grace stop; However points before that are effectively giving you the raw amount multiplied by the number of FP flasks you carry. You can go a few points more just because you aren't going to always perfectly bottom out at 0, but there's definitely a drop in functional value at 40.
if you're going off his spreadsheet for diminishing return it's 52. but yeah, hes definitely wrong here... basically everything in the mind section is misinformation.
Here's something to consider about how much mind to get. You're at the boss fog ready to go in. You buff yourself by casting golden vow then flame give me strength (or whatever buffs you have). You enter the boss room. You then try to summon your ash summons. You have 1/3 FP left, but it's not enough to summon. So you drink a potion. You just wasted 1/3 of your FP. Ideally, you buff and summon, then drink the FP potion.
@@bindlesnort7705 they're also useful at higher levels because they're essentially runes you can't loose when you die. also pro tip: if you're worried about loosing all your runes before tackling a difficult part of the game, you can secure some of your runes by just buying loads of stuff from merchants, which you can then sell later, this isn't lossless, but it sure beats just loosing everything because you missed a difficult jump or having to start every attempt at a boss fight by running to the spot you died at on your last attempt to pick up the runes you dropped.

I thought I was fine at 68 int. Nope. Couldn't kill THE BEAST. So I saw this video, switched arc. and faith all to int. 80. As a spell caster, this got me to win in around 5 tries.
I'm pretty late to this vid, but light roll is (and was) broken. It's so much better than mid rolling. It was actually a lot more broken a year ago, but it's still way better. Any extra levels going into stamina to get your equip lighter will be worth it if you commit to light roll
In light roll it is far easier to evade fast swings such as from Malenia. You do NOT want to fat-roll or mid roll against her unless you have some kind of secret strategy up your sleeve that I don't know about. As long as you're wearing something in each armor slot, the damage from being hit isn't even that bad, especially if you have talismans that increase your damage resistance.
This is the historical souls way. Soft cap is first diminishing return point. Hard cap is second. Max is max. Otherwise hard cap is meaningless ofc it's 99.
@@emuemu8428 It's also wrong. The terms soft and hard cap didn't originate from Souls. In other contexts (such as finance), they're defined as this video describes. Soft cap is a point of diminishing return and hard cap is the actual maximum investment possible. The confusion comes from the erroneous assumption that there's only one soft cap.
@@Sljm8D it's not wrong, cause that's not how language works. ^_^ this isn't finance and I never said it originated. I said the community historically used it as I described.
@@emuemu8428 I think you'll find that when the majority of people who use a word use it a certain way, that's what the word means. That's how language works. Therefore, since Souls players are a minority of the people who use it, and only some of them use it as you described, they are deploying the word incorrectly. Rather than doubling down on using an understandable misinterpretation of the meaning both linguistically and etymologically of a word, perhaps accept that your community made a mistake. Knowing that the hard cap is 99 isn't meaningless information, because not all games use 99 as their max value. Nioh 2 for example is a popular Souls like that uses 200 as its hard cap for stats. In Elden Ring, stats often have 3 soft caps, so this tendency toward using hard cap doesn't make sense for disambiguation either. Allow me to suggest alternatives: Major/minor softcap First/second/third/nth softcap Soft floor (e.g. >20 Mind, returns go up) These don't conflict with terminology in other disciplines.
@@Sljm8D TLDR, your premise is wrong at the beginning so I didn't read the rest. The souls community usage is all that matters about word definitions when engaging with the souls community. Anyway, I'm donezo with you.

Super-versatile sword caster build. Works like a charm for me. Easy to fight in melee, thanks to the moonveil katana`s move set and combination of physical, bleed, and magical damage. Staff in off-hand with 50 intelligence allows pretty much any spells in the game, giving vast long-range combat options. Vigor 40 Mind 30 Endurance 25 Strength 12 (for the katana) Dexterity 50 Intelligence 50 Faith 12 (just for the cure spell)
Been looking for someone to broadly and simply and definitely lay this out for me man thank you!!! Seems like information that would have been out there but most are just like “idk man whatever feels good stat wise to you do that”
High Endurance is extremely important for Strength based tanky two-hander builds because you want to wear heavy equipment for most fights (unless the enemy is super aggressive, which forces you to dodge and run a lot). I recommend roughly 60 Endurance as your base stat as it allows you to have a medium load regardless of the weight of your equipment. You can equip Endurance talismans to bridge the gap until you reach 60 base Endurance. Furthermore, more Endurance means you don't have to worry so much about recovery. This will be a life saver in many battles, and it's also generally good QoL. So the numbers that you want to aim for are highly dependent on your choice of equipment. For the mentioned Strength build, even a small increase in Endurance can be game changing as it might just allow you to use one better talisman, and that could make all the difference in your combat effectiveness. I'd assume that it's the same for mages. Greater Endurance allows you to cast more spells in a row, and that'll win you more fights and also add QoL.
Can you make a video explaining how important the stats under the body section are? Like robustness, vitality, etc.? No one has a video on this. What number should we focus on?
It just resistance build up, if you increase it, it will make status like poison, rot, bleed, and death build slower. I think the most important is robustness, which increase you bleed resistance. Most enemy have it and you don't have spell that could reset bleed build up. Poison and rot could be cured by spell, and death is too niche, only a small percentage of enemy have that.
As I have never been able to beat Elden Ring, this may help immensely with putting proper points in what I’m wearing and weapons I want to use. Can confirm though that if you have a bleed build an arcane stat increase to at least 20-25 is necessary for weapons of that type. Ghizas wheel and rivers of blood and even mohgs spear will require this. Besides this is a very informative and useful information for new and current players that need help. Thank you!!! ❤
@@Blittsplitt5 this does help with being able to make decisions about where to put your points when you level up and that’s regardless if you beat the game or not…

Is that what's happening? I've been wondering what people were talking about cause I didn't notice a decrease in returns.
That's a good point and the main the difference between a soft cap and a breakpoint. In this video it is used interchangeably which creates confusion
Yeah, to me soft cap has always been the point of diminishing returns, hard cap is the point where you physically cannot increase it anymore

Seeking a light equipment mode may be preferential to medium depending on your attack style. A light load not only increases the distance and I-frames of a roll, but also increases walk/run movement speed. An excellent advantage to have when running around in PVP
Light is the only way to go for a mage build. Gotta be able to dodge quickly being so squishy
Actually Light and Med roll have the same I-Frames and recovery - your roll and backstep just go further. Fat roll loses just one I-frame but has double the recovery.

Where are those spreadsheets for strength on down? They were helpful and you just stopped. What the heck
I'm one week into the journey and I'm in endless love with a video game again, joy. This is the video ive been looking for, THANK YOU SO MUCH.
As a fan of your paladins channel and someone upset with the 3 substandard stat explanation vids i just watched, running into you was a treat.
Interesting, thanks for sharing!
This isn't true. In this game, you get more damage if you two-hand a weapon with STR > 66.
He also didn't cover the quality build, where you split between Dex and Strength - there are similar builds that are strength with faith or strength with int, too. Never mind that weapon affinity can be swapped with your ashes of war.
very cool fact thanks for sharing
Ds2 also introduced powerstancing, requiring 1.5×STR AND 1.5×DEX the higher requirement if your weapons. So, to powerstance shortswords (I think it's 10/12 or 10/7, I don't remember), you need 15/18 STR/DEX, and 2 Shortswords. Powerstancing causes you to attack with both weapons with L1. L2 still parries if your weapon has that animation, and the R buttons only attack with the right hand weapon.
This was mostly replaced in DS3 with the Twinned weapons. Or the Farron Greatsword.
This is the most helpful video on elden ring I've found so far, and the only one thats compelled me to like & subscribe.
I agree!!!
This is the way that it has been since DS1, so Im gonna guess

The best part about Elden Ring is, if you have Radagon scarseal + Marika scarseal + Godrick great rune at level 1, you would be at level 81 just form the stat boost. Also including the other talismans in the game you can round up to level 91
Don’t forget the grafted great sword which if the skill is used every stat goes up by 5
You can also do double stat boosting tear for another 20 level equivalent or wear stat boosting gear for even more free levels
However if you wear all 4 scar and woundseals it probably doesnt matter you are oneshot either way

great video.
So starting out, do it like this:
Put as many points into STR/DEX/INT/FTH/ARC as you need to wield the gear you want to use. No more!
Put the rest into VIG/MND/END with a priority on VIG.
I've seen too many people pump one of the "damage stats" early for at that point very marginal increases in damage, all while struggling with encounters because they get 1- or 2-shot due to low vigor.
@@GamerKey91 great comment, but your sorta speaking to the choir here
@@GamerKey91 thanks! And around when do you think is a good time to start leveling the damage stats?
That was.... incredibly useful. Thank you! After sinking 60 into Int I was wondering what the diminishing returns were. I play an Astrologer and have been focused almost exclusively on Int followed by Mind at about a 3:1 ratio. I really appreciate your video, I learned a lot! I must say, Elden Ring is a really weird game, it's quite odd to see a stat have diminishing returns, then increasing returns, then more diminishing returns. In academia we have a term for that... "What were the Devs smoking?"
isn't it just the Normal distribution?
The spreadsheet being in dark more alone earned a like and a sub. More people should do this.
Good call 👍
Arcane does effect Incantations damage but it soft caps at 20 and 45, it also increases several Ashes of Wars damage.
Hi, any weapon or tool with Arcane scaling will increase the status buildup of poison, bleed, sleep, and madness for the weapon, ash of war, or spell that inflicts it. Frostbite, death, and scarlet rot do not scale with Arcane. This applies to weapon buff spells if the spell catalyst scales with Arcane and weapon grease or buffing ashes of war if the weapon itself scales with Arcane.
you can also use occult scaling which goes off your arcane.
Many thanks. I watched twice just to make sure I understood it all. You did a good job at demystifying "Stats".

Except there's a lot of very crucial incorrect info, and the video is painfully long and not worth the viewers' time when putting all that into perspective. Needs more research before putting out content.
I’m here a year later and I have finally finished the max level grind. It was worth it. Also great video
Good to know, thanks for the info!

So... from what I understand about the term "soft cap" is that it represents a decision point with logical reasons for stopping there (diminished returns), when you also have the option to continue.
Literally subbed because of the "Nice Cap" line! That was pretty funny
Elden Ring is my first Souls/From Software game and while I absolutely love it, I needed explanations on hard and soft caps. Thanks for clearing that up, I still feel a bit like a baby lost in the woods with this game but still chugging along and loving it.
@1:26 diminishing return. Youre welcome ;)
Never actually completed this game bc I’m awful at fromsoft games but I’m about to try a guts build my friend suggested so this is very helpful
Unga Bunga builds are awesome because all what you need is just strength, vigor, endurance for some heavy armor, and maybe few pieces of mind for ashes summoning. And once you get after level 150, game will be pretty easy and less challenging in end game areas.
This is my first time playing a fromsoft game so thank you so much for this explanation!
So i resume :
- Heavy : less distance, same Iframe , higher recovery time
-Medium : normal distance , same Iframe , normal recovery time
-Light : Higher distance, same Iframe, normal recovery time, backstep has less recovery time then medium
Hope it's useful

another thing to consider when using points in mind is your flasks when maxed out recover 220 mind. so unless you really min max with the spells you have you’ll like be wasting either mana flasks or both going above that if you don’t get full use of ur bar.
Yeah for some reason he is using breakpoint and cap interchangeably in this.
You should had put in the tittle: for dummies. This is what I was looking for, thank you very much sir! 👍🏻
Ideally, you buff and summon, then drink the FP potion.
light rolling does go further. and is extremely useful for certain builds if you know what to match it with
I always add a little to arcane coz it increases item find, and that makes the game a lot more fun 😊
what i dont get is the dude using moonveil katana and not adding arcane to boost bleed
Arcane early is great for increasing the number of rune skulls. At low level those runes will help you level up faster.
Finally a clear guide for me, a new player

For caps I've always explained soft cap as being less give, hard cap being much less, and full cap being the max a stat will give changes of any kind
Allow me to suggest alternatives:
Major/minor softcap
First/second/third/nth softcap
Soft floor (e.g. >20 Mind, returns go up)
These don't conflict with terminology in other disciplines.
@@Sljm8D TLDR, your premise is wrong at the beginning so I didn't read the rest. The souls community usage is all that matters about word definitions when engaging with the souls community. Anyway, I'm donezo with you.
This is the information I was looking for.
About to finish my first ever scrolls game without any specific build mostly equal across all stats, best game i have ever played, refusing to kill last boss out of fear of the game ending, thank you elden ring
its have ng+
When you beat the last boss you don't have to start NG+ immediately, you can still explore as much as you like.
Omg, subbed in the first 30 sec.
Im 28 hours into my first playthrough, love the game & this has really helped me to understand, thanks man 👌👌
Super-versatile sword caster build. Works like a charm for me.
Easy to fight in melee, thanks to the moonveil katana`s move set and combination of physical, bleed, and magical damage.
Staff in off-hand with 50 intelligence allows pretty much any spells in the game, giving vast long-range combat options.
Vigor 40
Mind 30
Endurance 25
Strength 12 (for the katana)
Dexterity 50
Intelligence 50
Faith 12 (just for the cure spell)
Been looking for someone to broadly and simply and definitely lay this out for me man thank you!!! Seems like information that would have been out there but most are just like “idk man whatever feels good stat wise to you do that”
Well said
I've got the hang of this already but this is very valuable information that worth knowing even for people who've already beat the game
As a man wearing the carian knight armor set I can confirm being punched in the face by literally anything hurts like hell
Kami my teacher in paladin nice to see u change the games u upload wish u the best ❤
It would have been really cool to see graphs of stat value in relation to stat number.
Greater Endurance allows you to cast more spells in a row, and that'll win you more fights and also add QoL.
light equip make ur dodge longer, it's pretty useful in some bossfights cuz u are able to space more easly
especially malenia!
Liked this video and subbed just because of that intro my G
Can you make a video explaining how important the stats under the body section are? Like robustness, vitality, etc.? No one has a video on this. What number should we focus on?
It just resistance build up, if you increase it, it will make status like poison, rot, bleed, and death build slower.
I think the most important is robustness, which increase you bleed resistance. Most enemy have it and you don't have spell that could reset bleed build up. Poison and rot could be cured by spell, and death is too niche, only a small percentage of enemy have that.
@@donjoncraig6804 yeah but only for mages build.
Go back and finish the game before you worry about level caps
@@Blittsplitt5 this does help with being able to make decisions about where to put your points when you level up and that’s regardless if you beat the game or not…
The biggest issue with 12 str being a good place to stop for sorcery/spell casting builds is Darkmoon Greatsword is just so good you'll want to invest 4 more points into strength for that lol.
Great video man. thank you. helped me a lot.
