    • @3232groundhog
      @3232groundhog 3 года назад

      @@andresperez6395 You’ve probably figured it out by now but you need to daisy chain the 2 monitors with DP in and DP out connections. Your monitors (or at least one monitor) must have DP out port/s as well as DP in port/s and support DP v1.2. You connect your mini DP on your surface to the first monitor’s DP in port, then connect your first monitor’s DP out port to the second monitor’s DP in port.

      I've been doing this for four years now (two monitors connected through my Surface Dock; the Surface screen itself covered by the Type Cover) and I just used the recommended power modes. I can go days without removing the PC from the dock, and I can have strings of 8-10 hours days with the Surface away from any charging at all. Despite this pattern and heavy usage, I have not noticed any issues with my battery. (Once I had a battery issue but it was a faulty unit, replaced for free by MS under warranty.) The best tip I've found is that given by MS: About once a month, allow the device to hit

    • @oztabletpc

      If you get the new Surface Dock (highly recommended for Pro 7) you will connect via USB-C cables. If your monitors have USB-C too, use that. If not, you'll need an adapter. Most likely USB-C to Display Port or USB-C to HDMI.

    good tutorial for when everything works correctly, but what do you do when the surface won't detect the 3rd monitor?

    • @oztabletpc
      @oztabletpc  2 года назад

      It's hard to do diagnostics over RUclips! So I'll point you in a couple of directions: 1, Check the cables - poor quality cables cause 99% of display problems. 2, High resolution / refresh rate. While older Surface devices could do 2x 4K displays, they couldn't do it at 60Hz, and that caused some problems. Newer models can do it, but you haven't said which Surface you have or display, so can't be sure on this one. 3, Are you using a docking station to get to the 3rd display? Does it need drivers or setup? What is the connection? Hope that helps you.

    Great video, thank you! Wondering if you could please help me? I have a MS Surface Pro 5 with a mini display port and 2 new Dell monitors and would like to connect them using a USB-C docking station I have. I plugged the monitors into the HDMI ports of the docking station. I then connected my Surface Pro 5 to the docking station using a USB-A to USB-C adaptor. The monitors do not connect to the surface. But... If I don't use the docking station and plug the HDMI port of the monitor to the mini display port (using adaptor) on the Surface, the monitor connects, but I would like to use the docking station to connect 2 monitors and use other peripheral ports.. What do you recommend? Thanks!

      Sorry, but you can't do USB-C over USB-A. Your USB-C dock can't get the massive amount of data and power that it needs through a USB-A port. It is possible to do what you're trying to do, but you'd need a dock that works specifically with USB-A, or the Surface Dock 1 or 2. A Pro 7 or later would work with your USB-C dock.

    Any ideas to troubleshoot the 2nd external monitor not working properly? I have a SB2 with the Surface dock, trying to connect two Dell P2715q monitors. Can get one to work properly, second one shows as a small #3 that won't toggle to enabled. I've done most troubleshooting steps of swapping cables, updating drivers for the monitors and dock, latest Windows Updates, trying the affected monitor on another machine, and using diff cables (mDP>DP, mDP>mDP, and mDP>HDMI, all same result).

      THIS is the same problem I have. 1 works fine, plug in 2nd monitor to docking station and 2nd monitor shows up in display settings, but will not display anything on screen.

      Looks like that display is a 4K display. The Surface Dock is getting a little old now and it only supports 2x 4K at 30Hz. So it will likely work if you drop the refresh rate to 30Hz. A hack / work if you want 60Hz on both around is to plug 1 display into the dock and the other into the device (in your case via USBC).

    Hi I have a Surface pro 6
    Can I use a mini display to 2 display port dongle to connect two screens?
    Or do I absolutely need a docking station?

      I believe that it is possible. I have not tried it, but display port can carry multiple signals across the same cable. There are several ways to get around the docking station.

    Hi there, hope this msg find you well. Thanks for your videos I have founf then helpful. Wanted to ask, I haven´t been able to adjust the scale size of the external monitor, it is like settings only allows me to adjust the main surface screan. I have the scale setting at 150% which is the size i work with well in surface but the view in the monitor is insanely bigger, but even setting it at 100% (which is small for surface) it is still massive for the external monitor. Wondering if you can help on this, best regards

      A couple of things to note: You can scale the external monitor to a different scale, however, it cannot be in duplicate mode, you must use Extended Desktop. When using Extended Desktop, in Display Settings click on the monitor at the top and then scroll down and set it's scale.

    Hi. I was wondering if I could connect my new Surface Pro 7 with the docking station, to my older Pro 5 and use it as an extended monitor?

      You can connect to it wirelessly, but not via the docking station. ruclips.net/video/teX-qEevPLI/видео.html

    This was helpful, but I think I need something else. I do use a larger screen and the mouse/cursor is on both the surface pro laptop 2 and the large screen. What I am looking for that I can use my mouse/cursor on the large screen when I plug in my external hard drive. I am really bad, plus I do not like using the tracking pad to move the cursor. Is there a way I can continue using the cursor on the large screen when I plug in my external hard drive, so I can easily navigate using a mouse instead of the tracking pad?

      Hi there, thanks for your question. I'll do my best to understand what you're after. There are a number of mixed concepts that you've mentioned in your comment though. For example, there is a Surface Pro, and a Surface Laptop (2), but not a Surface Pro Laptop 2. So I'm going to assume that you have a Surface Laptop 2. And you mentioned an external hard drive, which is a device to store your files on. But the way you've referred to it, I suspect that you are referring to a Desktop PC. So, I'll assume that you have a Desktop PC (with one or more large screens attached) and a Surface Laptop 2. And I'll assume by the question, and that you mentioned that you are "bad" that you're not especially tech savvy. Based on that, I'd suggest that having 2 computers is not the best setup for you. It adds a lot of complication and potential for things to go wrong. Instead, I'd suggest getting a docking station for your Surface Laptop 2. This will connect with your screens, mouse and keyboard from the Desktop PC, and effectively replace the Desktop PC altogether. Then, you can undock the Surface when you want to leave the desk and go mobile. But when you are there at the desk plugged into the docking station it will be setup exactly like your Desktop PC. I'd also suggest that you get someone local to help you in setting it up.
      Also, you mentioned that you don't like using the trackpad to move the cursor. The good news is that you can plug a mouse directly into your Surface and use that at any time. That said, I recommend learning to use the trackpad as well, since it is very useful when you're not at a desk.

    Can you do this with the lid closed on the surface and just have 2 external monitors as the displays?

    Is it possible to use the cord for the surface to connect a tv and also use the dock? I do a lot of cad work and would love to have a larger viewing screen for fine details.

      Yes, you can connect most Displays, TV's and Projectors to the surface with USB-C (or Mini Display Port, or USB-A), or the Surface Dock.

    Do you know how we could save the setting after setting it up a certain way to the monitor? Everytime I turn the monitor on sometimes the audio comes only from the surface pro while projecting to the monitor. It gets a bit annoying having to reset the wire constantly. Is there a fix to this?

      Change your default sound source in the Sound settings in the settings app. Do this when your monitor is connected.
