- Since the new Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock is out, we wanted to see how it stacks up to it's predecessor when it comes to monitor connectivity. In our last Surface Dock review we got TONS of questions about how far we could push it. So we grabbed 4 24 inch monitors and a Samsung 49" curved monitor and tested how far you could go!
We fired up a Surface Pro and a Microsoft Surface 5 and ran everything through it's paces.
Just because you have a Microsoft Surface setup doesn't mean you cant have a sweet rig!!

You can get up to 4 displays working with the Surface Laptop 5. You need to use Thunderbolt compatible displays, which allow you to daisy chain the connection between them. Dell, HP and LG sell several models that do this.

Hi, are you ok? Do you know if this dock is compatible for surface pro 3?
When you had 3 monitors plus the laptop, what was the resolution on all the monitors? I'm trying to use 2 24" and a 32". The highest resolution I can get is all three at 1920 x 1080, which is fine for the smaller ones, but not sufficient for my larger display, which I'd like to run at 2560 x 1440. My current dock won't support this much total resolution and I'm wondering if the surface dock 2 could.
Those were 1080, the big monitor was 1440.
Great Demo!!! While the Surface Dock 2 is made for Surface Pro 6 and newer, is there any functionality on a Surface Pro 3?

Hi. Firstly, awesome video. I was excited to see that your 4 screen set up worked as I have been hoping for a similar set up. I have a surface pro 7 and an surface dock 2. Two monitors connect to the dock via DisplayPort to usbc cables. This gives me 3 screens including the surface. I tried to connect a 3rd external monitor via usbc to hdmi cable which I connected to the usbc port on the surface pro. Unfortunately the 4th screen does not work (or at least I am only able to have any combination of 3 screens working however the 4th screen is greyed out in the display settings. Any ideas why this might be? Thanks in advance.
I think it may have to do with resolution and the 3rd monitor. Obviously pushing the edge and your milage may vary..

Not sure, but it think its the limit of the surface's gpu..

What is the chord your plugging into your charging port? One end is hdmi the other is ?

I had the same question. The cord you are plugging into the surface isn't what you have linked. There is something larger around the end that you are plugging into the surface@@DPCTechnology
Only three screens! That's it with Surface for me. :D Juuuust kidding. Thanks for posting this video. I upgraded to a surface pro 8 a year ago but the surface dock 1 (although supported) doesn't work all that great with it. I can't decide between surface dock 2 and surface thunderbolt 4 dock, I'm leaning towards the latter but I noticed it has less power passthrough at up to 96 watts versus 120 watts with the former.
do you know if this setup will work with surface book 2. if i call microsoft sales they say it will no.
Im not sure about the Surface Book 2. I suspect it would but oif MS said no, I would probably not try.
It's my understanding that the SB2 can support 2x4k monitors, but only at 30hz. SB3 fixed that limitation.
It would be nice to know 4k@30hz or 4k@60hz.
