JJ takedowns are terrible. You need Wrestling and just 3 or 4 types: Body lock from behind suplex, Single leg, Double leg, The double leg is the hardest of the three. That is all you need. Works for wrestlers but you need a Wrestling coach that was a Division 1
@@wapopapo1576 , you have to understand I never wrestled in HS and I did not start BJJ until a year ago and I am over 40. I look about 30 still lol. I am skinny and tall and slow. I did do much striking in Muay Thai and krav but i always had this amazing itch for grappling but I was always too scared because of the complexity
Thank you for bringing more attention to the standing portion of a jiu jitsu match. I think it is an under utilized tool, if used well you can bypass the guard altogether and win a huge mental victory.
Wow, this list is spot on. I'm very glad that foot sweeps/trips, inside trips and ankle picks made it in there. Extremely practical moves that seem partially underrated by some people.
the ones i have found best to work in the street are uchi mata, harai goshi which is the same thing but instead of the leg pivoting the opponent up on the inner thigh, ur foot helps guide the attacker on the outside running up his calf, and the single leg. most people in the street seem to be so conditioned to double leg takedowns that if they are strong enough they will suplex u or throw u off to the side, sprawl, or knee you. Thanks for publicly displaying these counters to everyone UFC.
Nice video. If there is one part of my BJJ I neglect, it's takedowns. Dropped in at your academy while I was in town a few months back and had a great time.
Such a fantastic video the low single wow in my opinion it is so underutilized wrestling great John Smith would be so proud you added this into the video lol. Anymore its such a rare take-down you hardly ever see at all in all grappling forms. In mma yes I understand why with strikes and I can see the reasoning just wish we seen more fighters in MMA go for them as it would be so unexpected so why not. Ben Askren has a fantastic counter to the low single, essentially when his opponent hits a low single, Askren steps past his opponent's arm, locks his hands behind his opponent's knee, lifts the knee, sinks his elbow deep, and then as he jams the head ,he transitions to lock up the cradle. I use to love watching Ben do that Counter.
True that! Shit low singles are rare even in the sport wrestling ! I have only shot like 2 low singles in my grappling life and they both were successful . I gonna try to incorporate in more in my life .
I always put my head on the outside with doubles. Usually I don’t trip at the end like I did in the video. I shoot knowing they’re going to go for the choke and use their choke attempt to pass to side mount.
The first two techniques are sooo risky, cause anyone that has a brain can kick you in the head. Uchi mada(or smth like that) I like very much, cause I use that when sparring in aikido. So good. The video is very well made and the techniques are clear.
Mixture of wrestling and Judo? If u didnt mean that 100% I agree, really it is just: Japanese Jujutsu > Judo (improved cuz of training methods in Japan back then > Mitsuyo Maeda went to Brazil with Judo > Gracie = Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
I just hired a wrestling coach to work with me on only basic takedowns like Single legs, Body locks and Double legs. The Double leg is by far the hardest for me.
Good list, but you should not stop at 7 takedowns if you can find the time to learn more. But if you master these and your ground game is good, that will get you pretty far.
cool stuff, our gym doesn't practice enough standup which is why im nervous about going in a tournament. I also have really clumsy legs and instinctively pull guard.
Those with Judo and wrestling seem to always have success in BJJ. It seems strange that, in general, many schools don’t stress the Judo/ Japanese JiuJitsu roots and train more standing grappling.
I just finished wrestling in high school, and I'm looking to start practicing martial arts. Can anyone tell me what is ultimately more effective: BJJ or Krav Maga?
I´ve practiced both, and will say this: For real life, potentially life threating situation (the person, or multiple persons, is going for a kill or to seriously harm you), skills and mindset from Krav Maga would probably help you more (and take faster to learn). If you have only one opponent, and the situation is not lethal, meaning that you have the opportunity to control or subdue him, then BJJ can be a good alternative. In a broader sense, I found BJJ is more fun to practice due to the sports aspect, and being able to spar at near 100 % intensities. If you´re a wrestler, then adding BJJ will make you a complete grappler. Krav Maga will give you more insight into how you handle high danger situations (outside of sports).
what's the difference between Japanese Ju Jitsu and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu? I'm a yellow belt on Japanese Ju Jitsu but I can't seem to find any difference between those to Martial Arts. I may have been using some of the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu's Technique but I don't know if it's allowed to use it in a competition.
Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu(BJJ) is more based on grappling techniques. Japanese Jiu-Jitsu(Classic Jiu-Jitsu) mixes grappling with hit techniques. Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu techniques are allowed at Classic Jiu-Jitsu competitions.
Yea better than boxing... every bodies natural instinct is to stand up and box... the average person has no ground game. This will throw them off their game big time
@@joehonz2722 i agree. Im starting to learn bjj, but i see they dont spend many time teaching take downs. For self defense i think the takedowns are the most important thing. In your opinion are wrestling takedowns better than judo for self defense?
Gustavo Baptista yep my academy is excellent but when I realized that we didn’t do much takedown I started training them outside of class and learning boxing.. since I got into this for self defense
O Uchi Gari seem awful for BJJ, it's basically giving your opponent a full guard pull - it's only used in Judo because it has an extremely high % chance of Ippon in the Olympics. Guard passing and submission starts with the takedown, something like an Eri O Soto Gari or Harai Goshi that gives you a takedown, a slam, a guard pass and leaves you with control over a a limb has to be way higher than an O Uchi Gari on the totem pole. Uchi Mata doesn't seem realistic either, it's the highest skill cap throw in Judo being taught to a BJJer who'll never spend the time to master it - so you're going to teach people to turn their backs and hop on one foot badly ... recipe for disaster IMO ... Something much lower skill and grip intensive makes more sense, like a Drop Korean Seoi Nage that dominates lower belt Judo competitions.
Jiujitzkrieg i know thats how i got onto it it was the one move that was so hard to counter yet when someone hit me with it i was like super pissed so i thought this move is perfect so i learned every version from every angle and adapted my balance really well around that one move

+Shae Chafin Hey this is just my opinion now but I think they are essentially the same thing, but who the hell really cares in the end is it a kimura or a double wrist lock ; )
Nah, IF you can put your hands together around his legs you don't really have to worry about the guillotine. If you can't, still totally fine to put your head on the outside and learn to drive to sound mount and/or pass while he's going down. Guillotine is always a possibility, but very rarely do I worry about it if I take a good shot. Head in the chest is also fine.
A blast double with the head to the chest is great, but it's not necessary. I could have put it in the vid and it wouldn't have been wrong, but head to the outside is much more common and easier to get to.
+El Max Judo is completely different from BJJ, BJJ is grappling, judo is just takedowns. Neither one is better than the other, they are completely different. Very good. I’m new to BJJ and struggling with stand up clinching..
Would you say that if you get good at these 7, they would be all you ever need??
You will never understand the clinch because you need Wrestling. Hire a Wrestling coach, I did and I have learned more in 2 hours than years of BJJ
This was well done. I can see why it has so many views.
Great video. I would love more of these with greater detail.
Hip throw, one arm/two arm shoulder throw, sacrifice throw, round kick takedowns are good too.
Back takedown to bring the fight to the ground.

What happens if your opponent sits down as you try to flip him with the uchi mata?
I had heard before that you want your head on the inside for a single and double leg so you don't get guillotined. Which way would be best?
Double leg = head outside (or power double with head in the chest), single leg = head on inside.
